This Starbucks has a great location and seating area; however, I have only had about two good experiences here out of several trips. The drive thru is pretty fast about once every two months, so don't count on driving thru if you're in a hurry. They consistently leave about a third of space left in venti beverages. When I looked at them in confusion, they avoided eye contact. There are usually about 10 people working behind the counter, with only one person taking orders. It takes at least 10 minutes to get a drink even if there is no one in the store, which makes no sense since there is a small militia working the drive thru. I do have to give them credit for making pretty good hot chai tea lattes, although the iced chai lattes are disastrously sweet (I would avoid those). They also always have the bacon sandwich I order, which is nice. read more

The WiFi is one of the worst I have seen in a public place. Starbucks should keep a better quality control over their locations. I went twice (few weeks in between) to do some work on my computer while drinking my coffee ; both times I had to leave. read more

Each time I've been to this store it looks like a cyclone went straight through it. Today they had their entire shipment spread through the floor and the front side walk, the employees behind the counter are running around frantically, and the atmosphere felt lack luster. I actually made a Yelp account months ago just to pan the Kanawha Boulevard Starbucks, but reconsidered, since the store was still relatively new. It's been over a year now and this Starbucks is still terrible. This store has major drive-thru issues. Vehicles can enter the drive-thru lane from at least 3 different directions, all of which manage to block traffic entering and exiting the parking lot. One line snakes through the middle of the parking lot, in the way of anyone trying to park and go into the store. Another backs up into the right lane of the Boulevard during peak traffic hours. The third cuts across both of those. Needless to say, there is always some awkwardness and delay among the cars in line as people try to figure out who's actually next in line, or just force their way in by virtue of having a larger vehicle. As this Starbucks also has the consistently slowest drive-thru I've ever experienced (including bank drive-up windows), be prepared to spend at LEAST 15 minutes hemmed in there before you reach the window - which is roughly six miles from the curb and usually splattered with dropped beverages - and then be very, very careful exiting the drive-thru, as they've put a dumpster right where it can block your view of traffic as you pull out. Most days the drive-thru is Just. Not. Worth it. Assuming you do manage to navigate the large but badly-designed parking lot and go into the store: it's nice and big, sort of cavernous actually, loud, and not particularly comfortable; but it's clean and pleasant enough. Which is good, because this Starbucks is slower than average inside as well as via drive-thru. The staff work hard and quickly, but you get the feeling most of them don't actually know what they're doing - not their fault, but still inexcusable. It seems like there is always some piece of equipment malfunctioning. The store is always sold out of various items. Always. There seem to be some issues with orders being filled correctly, which I suspect has to do with the store being so big, loud, and echo-y - it's very difficult to hold a conversation in that space. Apparently the wi-fi is also notoriously bad. I haven't tested that because I've never found the place inviting enough to stick around after getting my order. These are almost all what I think of as new store problems, and this is no longer a new store. Unless you really want something Starbucks-specific and have plenty of time to wait for it, just go a few blocks down and get coffee at Moxxee. read more

Slowest workers ever. I realize it's not super fast but this is ridiculous. It's like slow motion all the time. Drive thru is so slow I can't understand anymore. Further, they are constantly out of items. For days. It's called ordering correctly for your store volume. Same items always out. Straws. Lids. Cup sleeves. Soy milk. List goes on. Charleston, WV; Kanawha Blvd East. 0700 in the morning, 3 customers inside. Roughly 12-15 cars in the drive thru. Nobody in line in the dining room. My order was taken immediately - 1 venti mocha. I had to leave after 20 minutes. Maybe I should have known although I don't recall encountering this at other Starbucks or business that do drive thru and dining room. The policy is apparently to serve all people in order and no one inside gets service until all the drive thru (and electronic orders) before them have been fulfilled. That made me around 15th. No many 0700Hrs customers who stop in a nearly empty Starbucks for a drink on the way to work will survive. I suspect that if there was a display and customers entering the dining room were notified there we 15 or so people ahead of them outside and / or in their cars somewhere en route few would stay. Staff was friendly and they seemed well staffed. My order was excellent and took less than 5 minutes. I could not give them 5 stars because it looked like they just got a shipment in and there were boxes everywhere, but there was one person that looked to be working on it. I have now come to this location 5 times, it's a new store in a area that's not a Starbuck's kinda town, I'm was trying to cut them some slack, at least for the 4 to 6 weeks. I see no improvement, I don't see management doing any better, and the place is already a little dirty. They don't have anybody who smiles, they don't have that one guy, you know the guy, the one that rocks out a dozen great drinks in minutes, the guy who owns that machine and knows every drink. This group is the most anti-Starbucks group I've ever seen. read more

Expect at least 20-30 minute waits just to receive your items ...I've been here 5 times in recent months; always on weekends and it's always bad, after today (Sunday- Mother's Day) I'll never return. I thought I'd be nice and grab some coffee for my wife after working earlier in the morning on mother's day. I only live 2 miles away so it's super convenient. The drive thru is always backed up for a solid 20 minutes so I decided to go in and get it to go. I arrived to an empty line although several others were inside waiting. I placed my order...10 minutes my food is ready but no drinks, 5 more minutes my wife's "pretty" drink comes out and the barista sent her apologies as they lost my ticket but upsized my wife's drink for free and my coffee was now being brewed. 10 minutes later (25 min now) I see 3 pots of coffee empty out and notice the last 4 people who picked up coffee had arrived well after me. I speak up to ask what's the problem only to be told they were sorry but they're out again and would need to make even more coffee. I said forget it it's not worth it, some guy offers me a gift card for my troubles and I told him to just keep my gift card and his coffee that I'd never return....and I mean it. This location is cool and I love their coffee, but their managerial skills and organization are an absolute nightmare. 2 problems- the first being well defined tasks...a few people seemed to have a "station" but most were doing multiple tasks....give each person a single assignment. If you can't do it on a weekend with the people you have, hire more competent people which usually requires a better salary, and STAFF MORE PEOPLE DURING PEAk TIMES. This ties in to the second problem for a COFFEE SHOP....don't run out of coffee. If a product you sell is actually in your name, then people shouldn't wait on it. If you're brewing new coffee every 10 minutes on a Sunday morning, then maybe you need to invest in additional coffee brewers for those busy periods. I don't run a restaurant but these are elementary fundamentals that this franchise establishment should be able to grasp. I won't be back so it won't matter to me, but if you want to last then get your act together. Visit if you must- but expect very long waits....if you have a half hour to waste for a cup of joe (that's just to get it, not drink it) - than this is the place for you. read more

I am a Starbucks fan in general and was excited when I found out that Charleston was finally getting a stand alone store. Unfortunately this Starbucks has been a major disappointment. The building itself is nice but that is the only positive. The staff is slow and not particularly friendly. They also constantly run out of flat lids which is annoying. The Starbucks locations in the Town Center Mall and Target are fine, I'm not sure what went wrong at this one. I have been to Starbucks all over the country and am sad to say that the Charleston WV location is by far the worst I have been to. read more

As long as you do not come during the peak hours the place is a fine Starbucks to come & get work done or study. There are plenty of other small business coffee bars to drink at though that I would prefer over this. But when comparing this to some of the other Starbucks in this town this one is on the better end. My biggest complaint of Starbucks is the inconsistency between the chains. One will have a wide variety of foods, coffees & treats while another does just enough to get by & just sales the basic coffee. This place is not the case. read more

Going here on a time limit is highly unadvised! Before work I ended up spending 30 min waiting for a Grande caramel frappe. Everyone's order's were coming out incorrect, insufficient, or just not at all. When I got my frappe (a frozen drink) it was melted and foamy. I went to get a refund then noticed the same people had been in line for the last 5 min and decided I didn't have the time. On my way to the car I took a sip and felt it was better left in the dumpster. I hope I didn't offend the dumpster. Save yourself the struggle and try the one in the mall. read more

I love Starbucks - but I hate this Starbucks... We stop when we are traveling, so I want to get my order and go, but every time I've had to wait for at least 10 minutes once I got there, despite having placed a mobile order 5-10 minutes out. On 12/7 my drink was ready upon arrival, but food was not even started until I inquired about it and they used the excuse their mobile order system wasn't working (then how did they get my drink order and have it ready?) I ordered the Sous Vide Egg Bites which were shoved into the bag without their little cardboard tray to which I am accustomed; and then I had to ask where my husband's sandwich was -- still not started. A couple weeks before, after waiting for our food, I discovered that my Spinach Wrap was cold inside (freezing cold on the one end) whereas it is usually steaming hot. read more

I am a very frequent customer of this Starbucks, I've spent many hours waiting in line at this Starbucks because it is the most convenient place to stop on my daily route to work and school. Not to mention, i love the drinks! I come through this Starbucks 4/7 days a week, twice each day. Friday mid day I came through, ordered my normal everyday drinks. One for me, caramel Frap with one shot of espresso, no whip. Choc drizzle on top. One for my sister, Carmel frap, soy milk, espresso shot, whip, Carmel drizzle and salt topping. Same exact way every single day. First, our drinks were both wrong, (mind you this is the second time in a week) mine was missing the espresso shot and also had CARAMEL drizzle instead of chocolate, which literally makes me gag. As well as having at least 2 to many pumps of syrup. The drink was so sweet it was unbelievable. So I could not even drink another sip, had to trash my entire drink. My sisters had about 3 shots of espresso, it was so strong with coffee that the frap was literally black! It had no soft coloring to it. She also got regular milk in her drink after asking for soy and was sick to her stomach all day, had to leave work 20 minutes after clocking in due to drinking milk. She was sick all evening as well as the next day. I called in to speak with a manager whom I did and he was very generous, very understanding and had phenomenal customer service. He assured me that I could get my order tomorrow (Saturday) at no cost. I was happy with that. We returned Saturday around 1530, I went inside to make things easier for the employees to understand what was going on. The young lady at the register was great. She took my order (after me explaining the call with the manager the previous day) with no questions asked and sent our drinks through. (I also purchased a gift card at this time.) I was to be at work (2blocks away) at 1600. I figured 25 minutes would be plenty of time with 4 or so to get to work because as i said, i do this 4 days a week, twice a day. But, NO! I was wrong. After standing at the drink line for 17 minutes I then asked the young man at the hot machine if he could tell me where our drinks were at in line, he stated that he could not look and that he promises were in line. So I said thank you and returned to the drink line. 5 minutes later I see the 4 woman that were behind me in line getting their drinks so I asked to speak with the manager and I was told there are no managers here but we have a shift lead, Marsha. So I explain to Marsha that all I want to know is where I'm at in the drink line as I am now 4 minutes late to work. She tells me that she is busy making whip cream and can not make the drinks for me. I tell Marsha that I'm really upset about one, my drinks yesterday. Two, that I've been here for now 36 minutes waiting on my drinks that were being re made because STARBUCKS messed them up. She told me that I had no priority over the other customers and that i needed to wait in line. 4 more minutes pass and they call my name for my drinks. I say thank you, begin to walk away. No "you're welcome" "have a nice day" "thanks for stopping in" , just blank stares. Today was the very last day I will ever visit Charleston Starbucks. You have lost a very loyal customer. This is the worst Starbucks I've ever been to. I live locally and tried to give this location the benefit of a doubt due to it being new. But it has not improved since opening. I don't know what it is, but they are EXTREMELY slow. We waited in line at the drive thru for 10mins without even moving and the line wasn't even that long. We eventually just left and so did others in line. On other visits, they were out of items that I wanted to order (cold brew, tom/mozz panini, etc). Maybe they just need more training, idk. But something needs to change. read more

Probably the worst Starbucks I have been to. It took a good 20 minutes to get two iced coffees. Both ended up being wrong. One was super sweet and the other didn not have any flavor. I am pretty sure their lack of attention to detail caused them to put all of the sweetener in one cup. You could hear the staff complaining and gossiping the whole time. They did not seem very organized and had no sense of urgency. read more

This Starbucks is quickly becoming the worst I've ever visited. After making numerous visits over the past few months and waiting an average of 20 minutes for the majority of my orders to be fulfilled, I have to say I really hope the store's management makes some drastic changes or I fear for it's longevity. I had such high hopes for this location as it is so convenient for me, hence the one star. Service is awful and slow. Despite there usually being ample staff behind the counter, everyone seems very unorganized and unattentive to customers who have been waiting too long for their orders. read more

This store seems unable to carry any of the foods and pastries that they list on the menu. Out of 9 visits in a three week period only once did they actually have the food I ordered. I like to get either a certain pastry or sandwich when I get coffee and I feel like I've hit the lottery if they actually have it on hand - that's how rare it is for this place to be stocked with the items on their menu. It doesn't matter what time or day you go - they don't have it. I've stopped bothering to even go there if I actually want food because I will only be disappointed. They should just take down their menus for anything other than coffee and drinks until they get their act together. read more

Almost every time I come here they're out of almost everything. I heard the employees talk about it and they said it would be easier to tell you what they're not out of. I use mobile ordering and while I'm not upset about waiting I literally waited 20minutes and watched the employees make everyone's drink but mine (they left my cup sitting in the same place and didn't even acknowledge it). Then they saw that I was visibly irritated and then asked me if it was my drink and proceeded to tell me they didn't have it. The last few times they've ran out of what I want they announced my name and then told me instead of waiting for someone to be visibly irritated and then asking them. This place is EXTREMELY unorganized. When you order whatever they're NOT out of the drinks are good. Apart from that, I think I'll be walking to the town center mall for my Starbucks drinks from now on. read more

Literally the worst Starbucks I've ever been to. I've been here for work for the last couple weeks and have given this place way too many chances. Losing my ticket and having to wait 10 minutes for them to tell me so and then didn't even get it right is unacceptable. That's the second time it took longer than 5 minutes to get a very simple beverage. Gave the drive thru a shot and waited over 15 minutes the first time. During this visit I was informed they were out of chocolate croissants, oatmeal cups and various other items. When I received my oatmeal in a coffee cup I was ok with it until I realized I had to eat the oatmeal with a fork. My final trip this morning was the worst: drive thru with 3 cars took about 10 minutes where we were all informed that the espresso machine was down. Why are you even open?! Even though I was specific with my order, the barista tried to guess what it was rather than look at her screen. It's like she was quizzing me. Save your money and most importantly your time and go somewhere else. read more
