Once upon a time, I worked in the 55 East Jackson building on the 11th floor. But last week we moved from this building, in which we rented five or more floors, to instead consolidate and live in our own buildings across the street. This Starbucks was clearly a regular stop for folks in my office and on the last day I was packing all of my things, I was miserable and hot. Luckily I found that Starbucks has cold drinks beyond just coffee and Frappuccino, and got a strawberry açaí lemonade refresher to soothe the distress that moving can bring and also--and this is where the name of the drink is pretty on the nose--be refreshed. The drink was pretty good; I'd definitely get it again. They used freeze dried strawberries in it, which I would not have known if I hadn't actually tried to eat the strawberries (my favorite fruit). I'm curious if they make it with real strawberries when they are in season, and if they do I may be here often in May and June. This location is not terribly large but isn't the most crowded I've ever been in either. You'll often find students in here amongst the business folk and tourists since DePaul surrounds the place. I would boycott Starbucks. They suck so much. My laziness to wait overrides my other good sense. Walked in while pushing a stroller with two children. Told the person behind the register that the four year old needed to use the restroom and politely asked for the bathroom code. Was told that I would need to purchase an item in order for the four year old to use the restroom. Disappointing that they would rather a toddler pee on their floor than let them use the restroom without a purchase. Saw in a past review that this location wouldn't even let a pregnant woman use the restroom, absolutely ridiculous. Even the manager said I would need to make a purchase in order for a toddler to use the bathroom. I hope the district manager can knock some empathy into their staffs' heads. read more

The space is bigger, less crowded, sunnier (lots of glass) and quieter than other downtown locations. Drinks were the same as everywhere, on a busy winter weekend it's much quicker than nearby locations. The other negative reviews seem to be referencing common problems to downtown Chicago, this one has less being a little more out of the main path. read more

The baristas were great, I'm more upset at the fact I wasn't given the option to tip anyone using Apple Pay. Dear Corporate please get machines that allow the customer to tip using Apple Pay. This store goes through a lot of ruckus and it would have been nice if I could have tipped out my barista like every other coffee shop in the city of Chicago. What is the point of mobile ordering when you wait 25 mins(after giving them 15 mins before you get there) to get your order???? Have you ever wondered why Starbucks is so popular all around the world? I will give you some points of view on why Starbucks is so widespread for example how Starbucks is decorated, how employees treat costumers, and how clean is it. I will like to inform which are the best coffees, teas, and the best food to have with your drink. I considered Starbucks as a fast place coffee shop to go and get your coffee, tea, and food at a short period of time in a clean place. All the Starbucks coffee shops are known by their green sign with the green mermaid. The spaces are different in each place because some of the coffee shops are in the city or stores and places can be quite big or small. Employees most of the time are attentive friendly and always greet you when you get there and when you leave the coffee shop. The place looks really clean, but I have notice if someone is eating at a table and they leaves there is not someone who goes and cleans it right away. Employee will go once in a while to clean each table, but they do not go as soon as someone leaves. There are many types of coffee and teas that you can choose. There are five of my favorite coffees that I would like to recommend. One of them is Caramel Frappuccino that consists of vanilla syrup, steamed milk, foam, espresso, and caramel sauce. A Mocha consists of chocolate/mocha, espresso, steamed milk, and whipped cream. A Vanilla latte consists of vanilla syrup, espresso, steamed milk, and whipped cream. A Caramel macchiato consists of vanilla syrup, steamed milk, foam espresso and caramel sauce. Finally Mocha Frappuccino consists of Frappuccino mix, mocha syrup, ice, and whipped cream. One of the best teas to ask will be Passion tea lemonade. It consists of half tea half lemonade and tropical syrup. It's a really refreshing tea that you want to have during the summer. Another tea that I recommended if you are stress is green tea latte, which has green tea, steamed milk, citric acid, and green tea natural flavors, it has a really sweet taste and it makes you relax and get in a better mood. The best food to go with coffee is bread or muffin. My favorite bread is the iced lemon pound cake with my caramel Frappuccino. I think it's the best combination because I love sweets. With the tea any sandwich will be good for your lunch and desert to join. My favorite tea is the Passion Tea with chicken Santa Fe Panini. It's the best lunch you could ever have because it's something light and ready to go. To conclude, Starbucks is recognized for their coffee drinks because it has the real taste that anyone wants to have. That's why they buy coffee or a refreshing tea's of Starbucks because they know it's a really refreshing coffee shop to go and get there coffee and tea to go with bread and sandwich in a really clean environment. The best thing is majority of time Starbucks is a place to go and study and do work. So I recommended you guys to go and have any type of drink from hot to cold at any time of the year. read more

The location is convenient. Bathrooms are clean. Baristas are usually nice. Even though once in awhile they aren't but maybe it's due to stress. These are the only reason I am giving any stars. I don't know what the other reviewers are smoking, but I have never ever had efficient service here. In my 3 years of attending school at DePaul across the street, I gave this location many chances to improve my perception. Didn't happen. I am now graduating so I won't ever be back. The lines are always long as others have said, but they don't move fast! Maybe it's because I'm only here in the evenings, but the line has made me late for class many times. I typically try to avoid Starbucks at all costs but this Starbucks is located in my building. I was starving one day and finally decided it was time to lift my Starbucks ban if only a brief moment. This place is always extremely busy no matter what time of day it is so I was slightly intimidated and also turned around to go to Dunkin Donuts. This location isn't really setup up for you to leisurely sit and eat/drink your beverage but more for people that are rushing off to work. I always assumed everything at Starbucks was extremely overpriced and they definitely verified by assumption but I found the most "reasonably" priced sandwich and order that sandwich. I will admit I enjoyed the sandwich and definitely became a little bit of a fan of Starbucks. I will give them props because no matter how busy this location is they are always efficient when ringing up the orders and very quick with delivering drink orders but they are extremely slow when it comes to delivering any hot food orders. They sometimes will take 5 to 10 minutes to deliver a simple sandwich or say the name very quietly and someone that has been waiting for a long time will take that sandwich. read more

This Starbucks is horrifying on every level. Worst service. Ordered 3 items, waited forever, got coffee instead of hot chocolate and iced coffee was missing altogether. Scary dude sitting on the floor in the hallway to the restroom drinking beer, had spilled the beer (at least I hope that's what it was) and made threatening gestures as I passed him and stepped over the puddle. Basically, the employees are on "island time". This Starbucks should be located in the Caribbean. Takes WAYYY too long to get my drink even when they're not busy. I expect more from a Chicago Starbucks. Probably because mostly every other Starbucks I've been to, busy or not, makes my drink within seconds or 2 minutes. Waiting 5-10 min for an iced chai latte is a little crazy if you ask me. The only reason this Starbucks is still in business is because there's offices and 3 different universities located near it. This is a very meh Starbucks. For some reason, they are regularly out of breakfast sandwiches. The system they have for the mobile orders does not make sense, drinks seem to be made out of order. It seems like the drinks are made when the baristas feel like it, not chronologically. Zero stars!!! Are you kidding me? First of all, your coffee sucks. It tastes like you burned it. Always. End of story. Go across the street to Dunkin Donuts. That's what coffee *should* taste like. Second of all, your crap is over-priced, but that goes without saying. Third, why can't I buy a cup of hot water? Many places will charge a nominal fee for the giving away of a cup and, if you really, want, I could deal with a small up-charge for the hot water. Most of the time, when I ask for the cup of hot water, the nice guy behind the counter just gives it to me. I don't take that for granted. I don't expect that. I bring money with me every time I go, usually a dollar, because... well, I'm basically asking for a cup. Apparently, it is not possible to ring up a cup of hot water, according to the manager-in-training-wannabe brat who "helped" me today. And well gosh darn it, if we did it for you, we'd have to give everyone free cups of hot water. We'd go out of business handing out hot water and Starbucks cups to anyone and everyone who, on a whim, decided they didn't want to drink coffee anymore, ever because (rejoice!) water is now FREE. When it comes to Starbucks stores, I'd have to say this location is an ideal layout of creating that "third place." A very cozy and welcoming vibe as soon as you walk in with plenty of space to accompany a big crowd. It also has a descent amount of seating, though I could imagine how hectic it gets during peak hours. I found the customer service friendly and professional. My drink came out fairly quickly and was made well. I did notice the lobby was a bit messy considering that it wasn't all that busy during my visit. Also, prices could always be better here but overall, I find that this Starbucks is very pleasant and I'd recommend anyone who is looking for a good Starbucks experience to come to this location. read more

The system they have down is fast, efficient, and gets me my regular Orange-Mango Vivanno Smoothie to my tummy in time for me to get to work. You'll even find pictures of some of the employees with hearts drawn around their faces; that's how much customers (including me) love them. Yes, I said the L word... Love this place, its across from Depaul where I go so im always in here. First off yes there is usually a long line in this place but it magically moves pretty quick even when I only have ten minutes before my next class starts. Second all the staff is soooo friendly and nice. Third there are these two guys in there who always play good music and sing and its so cute when they sing while making your drink. And lastly one day I heard Wanda Jackson in here so even though you sometimes forget the whip cream, I forgive you and still love you from the bottom of my little rockabilly heart!! read more

This is not my favorite Starbucks, but as it is a block away from Roosevelt University, where I'm finishing a master's degree, it's become my go-to for a drink and snack before class. Every time I go in (between 5 p.m. and 6 p.m.) it's packed. Not only is every table taken, but there's usually a line of 15 people. And boy is it noisy! I could never see myself working here, as I wouldn't be able to concentrate! I am surprised to see so many people talking about the friendliness of the employees, because compared to the Starbucks in the suburbs, these employees are like cold fish! Only once in all my visits to this location has the cashier asked me for my name (to write on the cup) because most of the time, the baristas just holler out the drinks. And I don't think I've ever witnessed an employee smiling at a customer. I understand they're busy at this time of day, but really! On my last visit, I was stunned to see an employee and her boyfriend eating Chipotle at the counter (she was still wearing her uniform, and the Chipotle bags were sitting out in the open). Seems to me like you should take that elsewhere... Since switching to the (awful) La Boulange line, Starbucks' pastry offerings have failed to impress me, so I don't order them anymore. Yet I am always surprised to see the meager offerings available at this location. I have been coming to this starbucks for YEARS!!!! I attended Columbia College and at the time that I was going there, this was the ONLY starbucks in the south loop so I often visited here. Now I work closest to this starbucks and I have to say that this starbucks is VERY, VERY busy. There is a constant flow of people from opening to close and considering that, this starbucks is clean, service is fast considering they are making espresso beverages and service is so very friendly. This is the only starbucks I have experience where they have tried a variety of methods of how to improve faster service, I am assuming because this starbucks is so busy they had, but I think the method they are now using works best. Stopped at this Starbucks to get a drink and use the washroom. This location is pretty large with huge glass windows which invite the hustle and bustle atmosphere from the street. There is plenty of space for the queue, indoor seating, as well as outdoor patio seating during the warmer weather months. read more

This is a pretty Starbucks. I guess it's just because it is a the bottom of a building with floor to ceiling windows. Whatever it is, I just like it. The employees are pretty friendly here and patient while you order, which I like. Most Starbucks seem to rush you through the ordering process, but not this one. Obviously, you should be pretty quick when you order, but I'm talking about when cashiers just have that underlying tone of impatience - they don't have that here. The lines are usually pretty short here, and if there is a line, it tends to go pretty quickly. Only thing I don't like about this place is that they used to have sugar/cream/etc. at two stations, one on each side of the cafe and now they only have it at one station on one side. I'm sure I could follow up with management about this, but meh... Bathrooms tend to be pretty clean and they have a good amount of indoor and outdoor seating for customers. A great stop before heading to class and better than the Starbucks at Barnes and Noble down the street. read more

This is one of the busier starbucks in the area....there is another one a few blocks down State Street, though I believe this location has better crowd control when it's busy. This place is especially busy in the morning, and well...afternoons too just because it's located IN the CNA building and on the DePaul Loop campus. Odds are you won't find a spot here to sit down during peak times so this is definitely a "to go" kind of Starbucks. In my years frequenting this starbucks, there is always a turnover of staff. I've had some horrible experiences here and had to write directly to Starbucks Customer Service about in the past but over the years it's improved and I haven't had anything really to complain about...just that it's busy, and for them, it's a good thing. read more
