It's a bird! It's a plane!! It's...wait a sec...nope, it's ANOTHER Starbucks!!! There are literally thousands of Starbucks coffee houses in downtown Honolulu. Ugh, okay. Not really. I'll save the drama for yo' mama, but seriously are A. LOT. I'm actually surprised they haven't built a Starbucks next to another Starbucks yet. But I'll let you know, maybe it's a plan that's already in the works. My experience at this Starbucks is just average. To me, a Starbucks is a Starbucks is a Starbucks. Same prices, same drinks. Same local Japanese business man wearing a Reyn Spooner Aloha Shirt with khaki slacks. Same same. The only thing that annoys me is that this particular Starbucks is that its always busy and the lines here are A-L-W-A-Y-S long. It's insane how busy it gets here...like ridiculously redonkulously insane. And the thing with me is that I really hate waiting in long lines. Long lines make me vomit. And they give me hives. Really. (Not really). So if you need to sneak away from your desk (while not telling your boss) in order to get caffeinated, I wouldn't recommend coming here. Just go to the Starbucks further up the street (on Bishop, next to the 24-hour Fitness) or to the one on next street over (on Alakea, next to the Central Pacific Bank building). Or if you feel like getting your tourist on, try the one at the Aloha Tower Marketplace. Because more likely than not...by the power of Grayskull...you'll somehow come face to face with your boss at this Starbucks. And you can't ninja vanish if he/she is standing right in front of you. I should know, it's already happened to me 347 times. P.S. If you walk left of the cashier/check-out line, you will find a hidden room of seating. It's just like discovering a glitter and sequin- encrusted unicorn. It's that awesome. Okay, it's not THAT awesome. But after standing in that looooonnnnngggg line, then waiting around for a looooonnnnnggg time to get your drink - your legs will be tired and you'll need somewhere to park your butt. Probably the busiest location in downtown HNL since its right in the middle of the city. They have a lot more seating since the recent renovations and the space is now wide open. Since I am a Starbucks rookie, I used my app for the first time and it was super easy to order, pay and receive our beverages. The staff was so friendly and super efficient. read more

I feel a bit silly writing a review of Starbucks, because really, aren't they all the same? As it turns out, they're not! This particular Starbizzle is the closest one to my office, so I'm a regular. The baristas are all really friendly here and they'll get you in and out, lickety split. The nice little bonus of this particular Starbucks is the back room...yes, they have a BACK ROOM! It's actually a pretty big space, complete with comfy lounge chairs and little cafe tables and chairs, so if I ever need to meet with someone informally or even just with one of my colleagues to get out of my office for a change of scenery, I'll suggest we go here. It's even better now that Starbucks offers free wi-fi! So glad they FINALLY got on board with that...it was my biggest pet peeve for years. Oh, and while you're there, if you haven't already done so, please order yourself a Gingerbread Latte. It's a seasonal drink, but I promise it will change your life. Ahhhhh....so good! read more

Everyone has their own personal Starbucks....and this one is mine. Because the majority of my life is spent working, I see these fine folks more than most of my family. Sad, but true. Being right around the corner from my office, I stop into this particular Starbucks quite often. I for one can't properly function without a strong iced "blackeye" (Iced coffee with added espresso shots) in the morning. The staff there are quick as can be seeing that between the hours of 7-10am it can be busy. But the thing that I find to be awesome about these folks is how good they are at what they do. They not only make coffee fast, but they are as personable as can be. They remember a TON of people, by name, and their regular drinks. I find it amazing to say the least. They always seem to go above and beyond when it comes to customer service and satisfaction. For example, one day I went in to get my regular drink, and as soon as I got back to my office with it, someone accidentally bumped me and there went my coffee all over the ground. As mentioned, I really cant function without it, so I walked back to the Starbucks to purchase another drink. As soon as I get there, the staff ask me, "Wow, Jon, did you already finish your drink???" I explain to them what happened with a smile and went to pay for another. Well, they comped my drink this time, and although I would be happy to pay for another, I just find it very nice that they do these little things once in a while. As most regulars at any Starbucks know, the coffee experience itself doesn't really vary that much from location to location, but the staff at each make the biggest difference to me. That's why I give these guys 5-Stars for sure. One thing that I really like is that they are also open on Saturdays! read more

You have to give credit to a barista that works in a Starbucks. Especially if that Starbucks that is in the heart of the business district and has to deal with financial types, lawyers, executives, and auditors in the morning before they have got their cup of coffee and not quite ready to start the day and brave the world. I mean, come on...these people barely got out of bed, hop in their cars, and drive to the large parking garages downtown only to stick their large SUV in the compact stalls. These people need their coffee in the morning. Well, the staff at the Merchant Street Starbucks in the Financial Plaza of the Pacific has a staff ready to brave that challenge and has a smile on their faces, professionalism to get coffee orders right, and most importantly keep the lines moving so that you can be quickly on your way. Recently renovated, the layout bodes to the new Starbucks style that exudes a rustic charm while staying up to date with wi-fi. The new layout is much more open and inviting than its previous older, cramped spot. It is now much more comfortable, and easier to breathe when you wait in line. When it comes to Starbucks, the Merchant Street spot is one of the best to hit up! ...by the way, I'm not one of "those people" in the morning...I don't drive an SUV. :-) read more

This used to be my favorite Starbucks. But I'm slowly losing faith. I used to be able to order my relatively simple drink without issue. But not anymore. I order a Grande Vanilla Dark Roast with Coconut Milk. Not hard. Vanilla syrup, brewed coffee, coconut milk. However, this is the third time in as many weeks that they keep forgetting to put the vanilla syrup in it. One person assumes the other did it, and it never gets done. Yes, I can tell the difference. I usually don't realize it until after I leave because the drink is too hot to drink in the store. So then I'm stuck with the coffee I paid for, but didn't get. Those shots of syrup are extra, so basically they're ripping me off. It's a shame. With all they're money, the employees are finding more ways to make them money!! Next coffee shop please. read more

I'm really not a flavored coffee person, I just like plain ole black coffee. But recently I discovered the flat white, and haven't stopped ordering it ever since. I'm not sure if all flat white coffees are made the same, but Starbucks' version with coconut milk is delicious. The perfect froth, and a jolt of caffeine keeps me going all day. This location is always crowded...especially in the morning until 10am and then in the afternoon, after 2:30p. The staff members are fairly quick, but just sometimes a little snippy when it gets busy. read more

Also, I've come here so often that the workers remember my name and it's such a great feeling to have someone remember your name. I thought having Starbuck's across the street from my office in Concord, CA was dangerous...woo boy! I have this one in the SAME building as my office in downtown Honolulu. Most times when I see the line, I just keep walking by...refused to be seduced by Starbucks. Sometimes, though, I need that fix if I haven't had time to make my own coffee at home...or forgot my lunch. A little pricer than I was use to paying in CA or IN...but still willing to fork over a couple of bucks for a nonfat Misto. Like ABC stores in Waikiki...there are a lot of Starbuck's here...another one about a block away that is open on a Sunday. Like millions of people, when I need that caffeine fix especially on a morning work day, I head to Starbucks. I really don't need to explain too much on this establishment; but, I must say that the staff here is THE best and it makes my whole morning experience great. They know everyone's drinks and everyone's name despite of how crazy the line is. How awesome is that? I love the fact they'll make up great drink concoctions for you such as the "Mary Special", which is an awesome tasting tea drink. First dates are awkward and never like the movies. Your nerves are all over the place; you probably went through your entire wardrobe like five times; you're worried about tripping over your own feet; and you probably shouldn't have had onion for lunch because you forgot the mints at home this morning. I once came here on a first date. We both worked nearby and decided to just meet up after work. I totally didn't have onion for lunch or go through my closet like five times...I think, but I was pretty nervous and the last thing I wanted to do was to be the one waiting for him. I'm not an impatient person, but trying to figure out what to do while I wait makes me more anxious than ever. So I deliberately left work a few minutes late hoping he'd get there first. When I got there, I ordered and went to look around. I realized soon after placing my order that I had gotten there first because there he was, reading the menu... He bought a venti strawberry black iced tea and I got a grande soy chai. It must've been good because he finished his super quickly but I wasn't too into my drink. Not the worst soy chai, but also not the best either... I've had regular lattes from this location and I liked those a lot better. So after I grabbed my drink, I went looking for a seat. Did you know that there's a hidden room behind the counter where they make your drinks? Yeah... neither did he. So I was waiting in the back, wondering what was taking so long when he had no idea that I was in this mysterious, secret room. He eventually found me... Tip for next time: Make sure he knows you're going to look for seats in the *points* other room. Since he took a while to find me, I took my time finding us a table. First, I grabbed one next to the window, but the afternoon sun was blaring through. Luckily someone on the other side of the room left so I grabbed that table. Not too hot, not too cold, but juust right... Except like two minutes after he found me, he was like, "You wanna go take a walk on the beach?" My thoughts: But we're in business attire! There's this small, family-owned coffee shop up the street from my office I just must tell you about. I think it's creative that they named their store after a character in Moby Dick. For a little mom & pop shop, they sure have a great design and a comfortable place to relax, do some work, or take a break. The baristas, who I can only assume are the owners' extended family members, are all very friendly and efficient at getting drinks made for the long lines that form. They seem to do pretty well for themselves (I hope they consider expanding), and I decided to write a review because they did something exceptional today. You see, I had a coupon for a free drink that expired over 6 months ago (whoops, time flies). I told them that and yet they accepted it anyway! How cool is that? read more

Love this Starbucks although I'm not a coffee drinker, i love pastries & sweets and so i usually have very great time going there. Gotten around to be able to meet great friends and some from previous school, some from the gym. I was glad to be able to have meetings with colleagues and friends at the store so it feels like a gathering place for chitchats and for catching ups. Sometimes I also find myself zoning out and zooming in to my world of concentration and were able to complete some small and simple tasks while on the go. Besides the crowd and the gourmet, i was so glad that i received an email to remind me my remaining balance since i had some cards and it is sometimes difficult to keep up and stay on top of everything with all them and so it was very nice to receive the reminder. Additionally, I thought it was a great feature to be able to either make the payment through gift cards or smart phone applications. and YES! Birthday free drinks... i remember those freebies and sweet good old days...really do have to acknowledge it. There was also internet available and every once in awhile i get to check email if i have my laptop. I thought it was very nice to be able to stay connected even when someone is on the move or on the go it would be great to be able to stay informed and be in the know of daily news or weather forecast for the local area. read more

I am not a Starbuck regular. We were all tired of a bad day at work. I offered to make a run and ended up at our closest starbucks. Box and bag in hand to carry our 10 plus items- in line people were making jokes, 'order before this guy - he's here to close the place out.' Sautia was the order taker- and 2 girl baristas helped fill the orders. Boy were they nice. He answered all my questions. He helped with the order and got it all correct. I bet I asked the same question 10 times, "can this be in trente size" as my coworkers did not say what size they wanted just the largest item. Super nice folks. Great service. As a working gal, I sometimes long for the lazy days of college life where you have a constant excuse to find that perfect coffee house to study in. This past Saturday, it was not me, but my bf who needed a place to study and where more cliche to start than at our closest Starbucks? When we walk up to the store found out that Pumpkin spice latte is back!!! I immediately start walking faster and almost crash into the counter. Since it was so empty, the staff was very attentive and the coffee pretty good. On this weekend, there was lots of space in their (Ginormous by Hawaii Downtown standards) seating area in the back. I love Starbucks as much as the next person, but this location is my absolute favorite. I have been coming for a few years now and all of the baristas are friendly and they make the drinks how they're supposed to taste. They know me by name and they know that I order a few different drinks, since I also order for people in the office I work at. I have never had an issue and they're always so upbeat and happy. It's always clean, the side bar with all of the sugar, napkins, and creams are always stocked. They have cute merchandise. When I order food, it tastes fresh and the display is neat and organized. There is a line in the mornings, but I bypass that because I order through the Starbucks app. Even if I am near a closer Starbucks, I will go out of my way to come here. You won't believe how many people mess up a grande caramel macchiato stirred. They don't. read more

Seriously the best Starbucks on Oahu! The staff is the best!!! They are really friendly and fast! For example, on Xmas Eve, I was in line there that went around the store. It took less than 10 mins to get my drink. The one at Macy's Ala Moana and the new one at Kakaako would not be crowded and yet I'd still wait longer than that. The atmosphere is just so welcoming. I have met a lot of people here who gets their morning coffee as early as I do. We chat, mingle and laugh here! Part of it is the layout, with a community table to work, six good size individual tables, and a few oversized chairs that are big enough for a worker bee and her laptop. The other factor is the bank building the coffee shop is located in. The people who come here are often bank workers. People of industry and purpose looking for a refreshing caffeine hit or sugar rush before they get back to making money. Highly recommended if you have a few hours of work ahead of you. read more

It seems a little crowded in there..but the transaction was fabulousness as eva..i was glad to reload my card fast and quickly and easy. I am glad to say that when i can't use my debit card to reload, i always have a option of using cash so that way it is a successful way to reload too. Since I use the app to order items, it is a quicker and faster so that i can just pick it up and go so that way i don't have to stand in line and wait forever and forever. So this is a fantastic idea for those who love their coffee fix early in the morning and evening too so that they don't have to get too tired and sleepy so they can have a great day and get their energy up and running for the day. When she couldnt here my order over their chit chat behind the counter. The line was long but it moved quickly, and there was a man helping explain mobile ordering to everyone in line. The staff was really friendly and felt like taking a break from the espresso, so I ordered a venti iced green tea latte.
