It's like there isn't any good ventilation or something. I can't swing it. This most recent visit I had stopped prior to closing and ordered a coffee. I was inside no more than 3-5 minutes and the whole rest of the day my clothing reeked of their shop. I would love to come back with friends, especially on delay-days which we will be having soon I imagine, but to avoid smelling like their place all day, I will have to pass. The coffee is good, though. Their menu has tons to choose from and there is something for everyone!

As someone who mainly works nights, most of the coffee shops I frequent are ones open until 7pm or…read morelater. This shop is not one of those (closing at 2pm most days) but I had reason to be in the area this morning and it was a good chance to try something new! This is a very cute shop with a small amount of inside seating and friendly staff. It appears there is outside seating sometimes as well with a canopy, but on my visit all the tables and chairs were stacked. The menu is extensive with both beverages and breakfast items, and it can be hard to choose. I wasn't hungry, so I didn't partake in the waffles, sandwiches, and soups offered, but they certainly sounded good. We ordered a Wacky Waffle hot latte and a Frankenstein frozen Oreo beverage. I'm not usually one for frozen stuff, but the Frankenstein was delicious and will certainly satisfy a sweet craving. We added an espresso shot to it for a little coffee twist and that was very good. The Wacky Waffle had a decent butterscotch undertone though it was heavy on the syrup which obscured the underlying flavor of coffee. I probably won't visit again for a while due to my lifestyle, but if I was a day walker I could certainly see this having a crowd of regulars!

There are various downstairs rooms a large front porch set up with tables and some comfy seating. The location seemed to be popular with the locals as there were several groups located throughout the house either hanging out socially or working. We ordered from an extremely polite and accommodating barista and she was patient while we perused their long list of various coffee flavor concoctions. Although I don't remember the specific ones we ordered they were both pretty good. Although they do not use Torani brand syrups so the flavors did taste a bit synthetic. There are also a lot of various items for sale throughout the shop. I ended up purchasing a little knitted sock that fits on your broom handle to be used as a duster. For only $4 I felt like it was a cute and unique find. I actually wished I bought a couple more as gifts. If you're looking for a good little coffee place in the area that isn't one of the many big chains definitely give Black Chicken Coffee a try!

She remembered hearing that this is a beloved local donut shop, so of course we had to check it out. Free street parking was easy to find nearby, which is always a plus. When we walked in, the shop was quiet, and a young lady came out from the back to help us. We asked a few questions about what was available, but unfortunately, the interaction felt a little rushed--as though our curiosity was an inconvenience. We were genuinely interested in learning more about Red's history and offerings, so that part was a bit disappointing. On the bright side, the donuts themselves did not disappoint. My wife chose the apple fritter, which she loved--it was flavorful and fresh. I went with the donut holes, which were light, sweet, and tasty. The shop itself has a cute, small-town charm that adds to the experience. Overall, the donuts were yummy and the location is great, but the customer service could be warmer to match the reputation and nostalgia that surrounds Red's. We'd still encourage donut lovers to stop by for a sweet treat--especially if you're exploring downtown Lexington.

The smells from the sidewalk are enough to get anyone's attention, and we weren't surprised to find a line. They kept the line moving and when we got to the front we had a tough choice to make. I got the chocolate frosted with chocolate chips, it was fluffy, just the right amount of sweet, and hit the spot perfectly! Staff were friendly and helpful, and we enjoyed our mid morning treat. Prices were very reasonable. I definitely plan to stop in again and highly recommend!

My husband and I love getting a coffee while we shop around so this was perfect! We were surprised to see that they offer so many options either hot, iced, or blended. They even had a special holiday menu which we, of course, had to order from. I got the iced hand warmer (our barista joked with us about what an oxymoron that is LOL) which consisted of chocolate, cinnamon, and brown sugar. It was DELICIOUS. Perfect balance of syrup to coffee. My husband got the iced turtle latte and his was good also, maybe a little less coffee flavor because there was both caramel and chocolate in his. The staff was super nice and efficient. Besides joking with us about our order, they were friendly and prompt with getting our coffees to us, even with how busy they were. We will definitely be stopping into the antique store when we are in the Lexington area and of course that will have us ordering another coffee from Wallburg Emporium and coffee shop!
