It was 90+ degrees today and I still went on a long-ish bike ride. On my way home, I stopped by Starbucks to try and bum a refill for my water bottle. They were more than happy to oblige and even had a cup of (ice!) water ready for me by the time I got the counter. This Starbucks is *awesome*. Oh yeah, they were open on Labor Day, too! It's unfortunate that my closest Starbucks is also one of the worst locations I've ever visited. I have had multiple bad experience here, but I'll just tell you about the most recent. I ordered a trenta strawberry acai refresher with no water and no ice. I was given two inches of liquid, and I asked the barista why that was. Wasn't it supposed to be filled to the top? When I order tea sans ice and water, it's filled up. He simply just told me that that's all and that's all I was getting. I didn't feel like arguing with him, so I drove to my downtown location to show them my drink and to ask them if the barista's claim was true. It in fact, is not. I also called up customer service to ask about this and they assured me that there is no such thing -- that my issue shouldn't have happened. Honestly, if you're going to give a customer who paid $5 for a drink two inches of liquid, at least tell them. read more

Unfortunately, I have to agree with the other reviewers below. This Starbucks by far is the worst Starbucks I have ever been to, bar none. Their service is incredibly slow, their drinks are somewhat mediocre, I've noticed almost 8/10 times I've come in, their customer service is the absolute worse. It isn't every employee that works here, but the majority of the staff is incredibly and unnecessarily rude. If you're in a rush, don't bother coming here because it'll take at least 10 minutes to get to the register, order, and wait for your drink. It sounds like I'm very picky but honestly I have never been to a slower Starbucks such as this one. Use your 10 minutes to drive down to the Starbucks in downtown Los Altos. read more

Ever since I stepped foot at Rancho Los Altos Starbucks back in 2018 after having lived in Columbus, OH, for over a decade, I never really reflected on what that "Third Place" really meant. I always saw the sign but never stopped to realize what it meant for me as a customer. I struggled to reconnect with "my Los Altos" until I started walking with my dog to my neighborhood Starbucks - Rancho Los Altos. I didn't know anyone in my neighborhood because I would only come home to visit my parents during the holidays and, in many cases, extended weekends. When I finally moved back to Los Altos, this Starbucks store made me realize the meaning of "Third Place." I will always remember my first experience at this store when a barista remembered my name, which people tend to butcher and forget. That's all it took; I kept coming back to walk over 2 miles with my dog to sit and get my coffee at this Starbucks and catch up with my friends in Ohio. I am grateful for being greeted with a smile by two partners who happen to have the same name, Sarah. The Store Manager Hau was always very attentive and kind. I am so happy to have found this shop. It is a hidden gem. I now know the meaning of the Third Place. This Starbucks cultivated a deep sense of community within my time of Los Altos, and it's helped me get through some challenging times emotionally. Now, as a Partner, I am honored to be part of this team full of incredible and kind people. I am happy and humbled to be part of creating that "Third Place" for all the people who come to get their coffee here. We need community more than ever, especially during these uncertain times. This is a secluded location in the Los Altos Rancho Shopping Center, and it's a good all-around Starbucks. I like the elongated shape of the store, with the left side begging me to sit in one of its comfy chairs. The customer service here is in particular much better than that at other Starbucks. I don't know the name of the lady working in the morning at the cash register, but she is super nice and always smiles at all the customers. And it ain't one of those half-ass smiles. My traditional tall iced mocha (yes, I don't order beverages that take up more than 10 words) hits the spot day in, day out. Keep 'em coming! read more

This Starbuck's is in a great location - the Rancho Shopping Center at the corner of Springer and Foothill, however, the shop is one of the messiest I've visited....sad to say. This really does have a negative effect on the beverage I order! I'm disappointed... Because I've read The Starbuck's Experience, I'm well aware of the corporate culture and style of connecting with customers. If you've visited any Starbuck's more than 3 times, so are you. Twice I spent 20-30 minutes in the store which was littered, and although pretty slow, uncared for. The outside tables were littered, the nearby garbage cans were very full....tables not wiped off....floor not swept recently....many lightbulbs burnt out....many snacks sold out, etc. So, hoping that this particular Starbuck's takes this revue as a cue to get a clue (whew!) ~ they will clean up, brighten up and stock up. Starbucks - Coffee & Tea Near Me - Los Altos, California

As with most Starbucks, the crowd varies with the time of day. I often hang out late morning to mid-afternoon, computing away. There are a medium number of power outlets, all along the windows, so sometimes it can be a wait to get a table there, but my notebook battery last some hours, so it's usually not an issue. WiFi works great as always (and is FREE as of 2010) (NOTE: on 12/27/10, WiFi was SLOWER than dial-up, at only 55kbps down/30kbps up; this is 30-50x slower than previously and obviously just about useless). My only noise issue has been the afternoon moms & little kiddies crowd -- sitting way off to the side helps with that. Given the very wide and shallow layout of the store, there are plenty of tables (and also some outside under the walkway overhang for protection from the rain and sun), and a nice comfy chair corner at one end; no specific rectangular work table except for the handicapped one near the entrance. The baristas have always been quite friendly and helpful here; one minor drawback is that they don't have an oven for toasting (apparently because of lease restrictions as there are other places selling toasty things in the shopping center). Overall, a nice place to work and/or chat. read more

This location does not sell bagels! I literally only came for a bagel so I'm disappointed. Also, this afternoon there was no seating whatsoever.. not even out side. Service is usually pretty good and I almost always find seating. I would not suggest coming at 12 or after 4 because it gets insanely busy. I've seen some pretty rude costumers come in here, and the baristas are always very polite and patient. I really appreciate that. read more

Great store since the remodel. Fast service, knowledgable and of course - good coffee. Only bad thing is the nut cases in the parking lot. I have never seen so many incompetent drivers gathered in one parking lot at any given time. It is actually humorous to watch people "driving" in that lot. Loud people, too many of them (some who were there before me and still waiting for their drinks after I got mine) and the bathroom looked like the lovechild of a truck stop and a tornado. I participated in their toy drive one holiday season ('05, I think) and just dropped in one time to drop off a sizeable toy and just left (I was in a hurry and didn't have time for a drink order). But the next time I came in to actually have a drink (my usual decaf, grande, blended, no-whip, vanilla mocha), the people behind the counter remembered me and the donation I made and made my drink on the house! I would normally rate 3 stars to any given Starbuck's since I like their mochas and frappucinos, but the overall customer service I get from this location as well as the fact that they remember me bumps them up a notch. read more

Q: "Why do we go to Starbucks?" A: I went for a meeting, not for coffee. (If you answered the same, keep reading) If you need to meet at a Starbucks - this one is not half bad compared to others I've been to. It's pretty somber during the afternoon (when I went -- so you could hear yourself talk). They have a dozen or so tables is a bigger space to meet at and a half dozen outside. There's lots of parking lot space and almost no hassle, since it's right off a main road, the Foothill Expy. Why not give them five stars then? Come on, the coffee is gross. I wanted to have 2 separate orders and was lectured about not telling him that to begin with. The they forget my drink even though I saw the barista mark up a cup. Before heading back to Monterey, stopped by this Starbucks for some coffee and a potty break. Wasn't such a fan of the baristas here--definitely got sneers, eye-rolls and giggles from the baristas when I ordered my peppermint mocha. (Sure, it's a complicated order--double, short, nonfat, no-whip, peppermint mocha, 170-degrees, 1-pump mocha, 1/2-pump peppermint, with a half-inch of foam--but that's only because the recipe Starbucks has devised is far too sweet and not nearly strong enough for my tastes.) What's worse, this isn't the first time I've had such reactions from the baristas when ordering my drink. Yeah, I'm pretty sure Starbucks doesn't want their customers getting their latte with a side of sneering--especially when they've just shelled out nearly $4 for that little drink. Aside from the rude service here, this is a convenient spot for a potty break on the way to/from San Francisco on 280. The bathrooms are clean, and the Rancho Shopping Center is a nice spot to stretch your legs. read more

This place is *always* super busy! On weekends, it's especially happening because all the bikers along Foothill Expwy stop here for their break or something. Despite the crowd, the service and the quality are still solid. We've been going here for a few years now and haven't had any complaints. Parking lot does get a bit busy too, but don't get discouraged because cars do come and go fairly quickly. read more

This is never my first choice Starbucks, but the other day it was my only option as I was running late and it was on the way to the freeway. It is always crowded, inevitably, every single time. But, when I went in the other day, around 6:30 in the morning, there were only two other people in there. They were getting their chat on with the barista (who they had obviously befriended with their regular morning visits). I tried to very nicely with my body language (stepping in front of the register, looking at my watch) let the barista know I was in a hurry. She took none of my clues. So finally I told her "Sorry, I'm in a hurry!". All parties in the scenario were friendly, but come on! It's the morning and people are on their way places, take a clue! Slightly frustrating. Thennnnn the barista making my coffee was being super chatty and just taking his time! For an iced coffee mind you!! This would not be a problem (the regular customers getting chatty with their barista friends) but I came to Starbucks for a coffee because I know they're (usually consistently) quick. In my prior review, I gave this Starbucks 1 star not because of their quality but solely because of a troubling and ongoing experience--they were closing whenever they felt like it, even if it was before the official posted closing time. This place is pretty much your average Starbucks. Good coffee and treats, great service, and they open nice and early so that's good for my early work days, but I'm pretty sure that's fact with any Starbucks. Only downsides to this Starbucks is that they close super early and they don't sell any of their breakfast sandwiches since their contract doesn't allow them to since their in the same shopping center as a grocery store. As promised, I'm writing a review for this Starbucks. I've never written a review for ANY place I've gone to, so you know this is gonna be one special review ;) All I really need to say is that the employees here have to be one of the most energetic, accommodating, and most sincere staff I have ever experienced at any Starbucks I've ever been to. I've been a regular (unfortunately haha) at several different Starbucks over the years, but not one of them have ever been as amazing as this location. Not one has ever had anything to keep me going there except for convenience of location, but this Starbucks makes my morning so much better, even if I'm there at 5:30am when they open. The employees, no matter the time of day, always keep their same standard of service, and always cheer me up and bring me out of my morning slump. The three employees that I want to give special recognition for are Max, Dimitri, and Nick (who I promised to make this review for, and I hope he's hiding in his corner while he reads this :P). These three always greet me with the most enthusiasm and energy and they deserve special awards for being able to make me smile before that coffee has hit my veins! Very convenient to my location and I've always been pleased with customer service in the 10-15 times I've visited. Plenty of seating indoors and outdoors has a nice patio with umbrellas to shield from the sun. It's not always the cleanest, not dirty but just sometimes gets a little messy before the employees can get to it. I go often on Saturday or Sunday afternoon/early evening and only one time did I feel like I didn't get a great seat. This is an important aspect of Starbucks to me since my wife and I like to sit with our iPads and drink coffee. read more

Just finished spending $200 for Christmas gift cards. After I got to my desk I matched each gift receipt with its respective card and realized one card for $10 was missing. I called the store literally 10 minutes after I left and they said to come in and person. After arriving the register person was hesitant to get his supervisor because she was "busy." After I insisted, she told me there is nothing she can do for me and to call their customer service number. Did I really need to spend time going back just to be aggravated over a $10 gift card. I called the main corp. which was accomodating and said they would mail out a gift card. Pros: Plenty of parking Cons: -Terrible customer service at the register -Takes forever to get the drinks (even when not busy) -Can't seem to get the drink orders correct -Rude baristas (heard them talking about another customer) My story: June 17, 2012 9:05am I walk into the store. There are a few other customers ahead of me and I can see that there are 2-3 other people waiting for their drinks and 2 women on register. Lucky for me, most of the customers in front of me order just coffee and pastries, so I figure that I will be in and out relatively quickly. When the customer in front of me walks away, I walk up to the available cashier, only to have her stand there talking to the other cashier and then leave. So I walk back to stand in line. When the customer at the other register leaves, I walk up and wait. Finally I am politely greeted and told that she will be with me in a minute. I order 1 grande french roast with no room for cream. The cashier gets this right away, but leaves about an inch off the top (oh well, I let that slide). I then order 1 grande decaf coffee with sweetener and room for cream. She pumps the coffee then gives me the drink. When I remind her about the sweetener, her disposition changes and she becomes more "snappy" and asks what kind of sweetener. I tell her classic is fine. She gives me my drink and then I order 2 kids vanilla milks, no ice, no whip. I ask for plastic cups instead of paper and she says that she will have to charge me for a regular/tall drink then and punches in $3.45 for a vanilla creme drink. I tell her to just not fill the cups all the way. She grabs the cups and then has to ask another worker how to charge for a kids drink. Drinks ordered, I now walk over to the pickup area. The first vanilla milk comes with ice. I inform the barista that I wanted to no ice and no whip. He is super irritated (lets out a huff, like I am the one who made the mistake). While I wait for my drinks, a woman comes up to inform him that her friend ordered her drink with soy and not regular milk. She shows him the cup marked "S", gives him the drink and tells him that they don't want to wait for the drink, so she would just like a "rain check" instead. He tells her to talk to his "boss" who is behind us cleaning the condiment bar. The woman tells the "boss" the problem and the "boss" says, "We don't give out rain checks." So the woman points to where she is sitting and asks them to bring her the drink when it is ready. The "boss" then goes behind the bar to ask the barista what is going on and he says that the woman just wants a free drink. The boss replies, "Yes a lot people just want free coffee" and they continue to chat and say rude things about the woman. I want to yell at them, "She didn't want a free drink. She gave you the drink back because it was not made correctly and asked for a rain check probably because it is easier than asking for a refund." But I didn't and waited until I got me first kid's drink. When the barista gave it to me and said, "Thank you." I told him that I had one more drink. The "boss" said, "There are only 3 of us working and we are busy." It was irritating that she replied when I was talking to the barista (man) and that she made an excuse. Considering that only me and 2 other people (1 being the woman waiting for her correct drink) and NO one in the order line, I would not consider it to be busy (unless that is busy for this Starbucks location). When I got my last drink, I asked for a tray and again, I felt as if I was asking for a huge favor. I got my tray, loaded my drinks and then went over to where the women who were waiting for their soy drink were sitting and informed them about what the barista and the "boss" were saying about her. When I walked out of the store, the other customer who had been waiting for her drink, said to me, "They can't seem to get anything right today. Bad crew." I couldn't agree more. I hope that District Manager retrains these employees on customer service and manners. read more

Horrible! Just horrible. Had my service dog and they kicked me out and yelled at me. She wasn't even doing anything. She was in my arms! Horrible customer service and just flat out disrespectful and rude. If service dogs or dogs in general are not permitted have a god damn sign up or nicely go up to the customer and tell them kindly about your policy. Instead of yelling it in front of the whole damn coffee shop. I'm appalled at this type of behavior. No human kindness whatsoever. read more

3rd time at this Starbuck was simply not a charm. The first attempt I rudely discovered that this Starbucks doesn't serve the typical Starbuck edibles that the other Starbucks in the area serve. More specifically they don't serve the Bacon & Gouda Artisan Breakfast Sandwich, Ham & Cheddar Artisan Breakfast Sandwich and/or the Sausage & Cheddar Classic Breakfast Sandwich (all of which are listed on the Starbucks website under "Hot Breakfast"). In my opinion that's like a McDonalds not serving Chicken Nuggets. I was taken aback by the attitude I received from the Barista when I asked for a Breakfast Sandwich. It was as if I offended him in some way and the reply was "If it's not on the menu above or in the glass case then we don't server it." OUCH. The second attempt I was lectured on my order. Believe it or not, I returned to this Starbucks with the expectation I wouldn't get a Breakfast Sandwich. My order is very simple, Grande Drip with an added Double Shot. I'm not sure why that was an issue for the Barista, however, he assumed that I was just trying to become caffeinated and instructed me that I shouldn't order that combination rather I should order a "Clover" coffee which will provide more caffeine. I told him, I like the boldness and sweetness of the espresso in my drip; it was a flavor profile for me rather than a caffeine need. That's when he said that the combination that I'm ordering doesn't taste good and coffee coinsurers simply don't drink that. The third attempt today was the last splash stick. The bearded Barista was frantically chatting with two other Baristas and motioned me over to take my order. I ordered my typical Grande Drip with a Double Shot and behind the glass case was a Ham and Cheese Croissant which I also ordered. I placed my order, got my receipt and waited in the coffee queue for my order to come up. I was starving and wanted a little meaty cheesy treat to start my day. The Barista asked the bearded Barista who the coffee was for, and the Bearded Barista shouted "it's for the bald guy with the sunglasses on his head." Did that just come out of his mouth? Yep it did. So I shave my head and yes I had sunglasses on my head, but come on a bit more tack could have been exercised. So I had my coffee in hand, and I was waiting for my meaty cheesy goodness to come up. After a few moments I asked the bearded Barista where it was. He said, "you didn't buy one." I looked on my receipt and said, "it says so right here that I did." His next reply "I must have already given it to you" then he moved on to the next customer. I walked out. I'm not clear if it is that this Starbucks has fallen ill with a bad case of pretentious attitude or simply has gone rouge from the quality of the Starbuck brand, regardless I won't return and I will always voice that patrons don't visit it. read more

They keep getting my order wrong!!! How does a coffee Frappuccino become a cream Frappuccino (one without coffee)? It's a good thing I saw the difference in color and complained right away. Employees are talking loudly with each other and with some regulars, goofing around behind the counter, slow to fulfill orders, noisy. Not a place to come if you want to work, read, relax, or get your drinks on time. This may not be the case all the time, but it seems, reading some of the other reviews, that there may be a bit of a pattern here. read more

Coffee is the same as any other Starbucks, but the baristas are efficient and nice without being over-the-top friendly. There are plenty of small tables along the walls and windows, which make it a great place to work alone, but not so great to work with groups. free wifi, of course. Clean unisex bathroom with a random urinal in it - which I figure could be a plus for some. Parking can be a pain depending on the time of day. read more
