This Starbucks is pretty big and I like the ambiance. They have seating indoor and outdoors. There are booth seats, stool seats, and tables and chairs. I like how the door by the pick up area is exit only, I feel like it avoids congestion in that area. Their service is good, but sometimes they put too much ice in the drinks. My current favorites are the iced brown sugar oatmilk shaken espresso and the matcha frappe with caramel lining of the cup. There has been a time where my colleague and I had to have our drinks remade. I wanted my matcha frappe with caramel lining, but the guy put it all in the bottom of the cup, so every sip I took was only caramel and it was too sweet and gross! During our week-long trip to the L.A. area (first week of May, 2023), I hit up this Starbucks twice; once to pick up drinks that my best friend ordered for us via the app on the early evening of Sunday, May 7, and again on the afternoon of Tuesday, May 9. May 7 - We sent the kids to go inside to pick up our drinks as we remained in the car, illegally parked in the street in front of the parking lot. They were literally in and out without delay. My Iced Matcha Tea Latte made with Oat Milk was good. Easy peasy, no complaints. May 9 - Came in with my cousins and aunt to sit and rest, drinking coffee, while the kids shopped on Melrose. I don't remember what my cousin ordered, I went with an Iced Shaken Espresso with Oat Milk & Classic Syrup. There wasn't a long line of customers ahead of me at the register, but I waited unusually longer than expected for my beverage. When the barista called out my drink for pick-up, I immediately asked her if she used oat milk. Nope, she used regular milk. Clearly, she didn't read the drink label details, which is super important, especially for those who are lactose intolerant. Good thing that I asked! When my replacement iced drink was ready, the same barista did not even look up to me when confirming that she added classic syrup (I had to ask because, clearly, she could not be trusted). What a total fail on customer service! Additionally, one of the bathrooms was locked because it was out of service. The other restroom was so disgusting I couldn't use it. I almost vomited my breakfast and nearly lost my appetite to drink my coffee. The rest of the cafe appeared to be decent in cleanliness, but the severely dirty lavatory definitely overshadowed any tidy condition in that whole place. At least they have a free parking lot! I would go elsewhere for a caffeine boost, but if you must, beware of the lousy barista customer service and hold your pee if you can! read more

I've been coming to this particular Starbucks coffee house on and off for quite some time starting in the early 2000's. A lot of time had passed since I stepped in, possibly 2018 or 19? So this past week I decided what the heck and grabbed my laptop, some books, and an open mind and came back. First off, I miss the old layout. They used to have wooden chairs and tables, about 10 or so, that lined the window which to my knowledge used to be the old layout of what this place used to be which was a restaurant and the circular shaped window was to resemble the shape of a hamburger, you're welcome for the history lesson . Anyways, I'll probably be back. Sure, cafe etiquette or etiquette in general can be hit or miss unfortunately, ie loud ass people sitting right next to you or my favorite the screaming toddler and the parents that just expect everyone to act like it's normal. But it's a very spacious dining area so there's a way around that. And the baristas were very courteous & personable unlike some other coffee houses I've reviewed here on yelp. I miss some of the employees that I knew peripherally at the time when I used to come here but the new ones seem really nice. I also loved that I still see skater punks and arty young people and it made me hopeful that side of Melrose can have a second life and not just be strictly a place for tourists and yuppie types like so much of L.A. is morphing into. That means a lot to me as an aging Gen X-er who used to shop at now defunct record stores like Bleeker Bob's and Vinyl Fetish and for vintage clothing at the much missed Aardvark's clothing store which were all on Melrose back in the 90's and possibly from the late 80's as well I think. Anyways, I understand that time is long gone, but it's heartwarming that this Starbucks is still open for me and that vibe from back then found it's way into this place with these ramshackle kids I observed walking in with their tats and skate boards the last couple of times I was in there besides me conjuring up those vibes by me brimming with nostalgia from that golden 90's period. I went into the Melrose Starbucks and they are a bunch of rude assholes. Probably because of the harassment from high schoolers that go to Fairfax high. They would not even give you a hot water for free as they advertise as a corporate location . And they don't let you use the bathroom for free. Especially if they don't like you as they did to an elderly gentelman . I was a witness to them denying access to that elderly man just togo to the bathroom. can you imagine the in-hospitality that they showed was unimaginable. They probably thought that elderly guy would take a dump on the floor. There is a tall woman named "EM"which looks like she will bust you in the mouth fyou give her backtalk. All the barristers learn at this location is how to be rude to customers. "April" is another woman who works at the Melrose location. And they call her a manager. I've lived near this place for more than ten years and used to come frequently. They closed for a time to remodel and must have hired all new people when they re-opened who they didn't bother to train. I went in today an ordered an iced coffee with a splash of cream. It doesn't get more basic than this. I got a block away before realizing that they had put some god awful sweetener in it. When I took it back, the guy said they would remake it and not charge me. What the hell? Of course you won't charge me. lol. The second one came out and was disgusting. About 70% milk and 30% watered down coffee. So, I took it back and said to just give me a refund and give me a hot coffee with a splash of half and half. Third try came out and it was black coffee with what appeared to be a tic tac's worth of half and half. So, I stopped at the bev counter for more cream and finally walked out with my FOURTH iteration of this drink and it still tasted like poopyshit. The remodel is very nice and the patio is lovely to sit on if you try not to think about all the shootings happening on Melrose right now. I found this Starbucks last night when I wanted a caffeine jolt before a play. It was easy to get to, but as with most Starbucks in LA, parking is an issue. This had some spaces but the only one left was a handicapped spot. Off to a nearby meter where I paid almost as much as my drink cost. I come here frequently as I work less than a block away. Typically the service is great but today the cashier was EXCEPTIONALLY RUDE. She asked me to repeat my order 3 times --- my voice is loud and projects so my voice was not the problem. Then my order was wrong, then the sandwich I ordered looked like it was tossed in and wasn't even completely a sandwich. When the girl handed my change back to me she sat it on the counter too far for me to reach, forcing me to reach behind the counter just to retrieve it.
