    Starbucks - inside

We wanted a coffee pick me up while also sitting down to rest our feet after spending the day sightseeing. We had walked the length of Alvarado Street to Fisherman's Wharf and had been on our return trip back. This is a large store with plenty of seating indoors, that does not feel cramped at all. The tables are situated with good distance in between. There's also a lot of seating on their outdoor patio that faces the street. An added bonus is that there are several Pokemon Go pokestops within range, which is handy if you're also playing this game while sightseeing around town. This was definitely convenient during our visit because I was also working on the "catch 200 pokemon in one day" task, which is required for going to level 41. And I managed to finish it during this visit. I noticed that there were a lot of students in the store and also waiting in line to order. We arrived late in the afternoon. I wonder if there is a high school nearby. There are 2 gender neutral restrooms, both with codes for entry. You'll find the restroom code written on a chalkboard sign that is on the door. I used one of the restrooms and was very surprised by how large it was (see photos). You might even be able to do cartwheels! However I noticed that they didn't have any type of diaper changing station in the room. So while you may be able to push your double stroller into the bathroom, you will not have a convenient place to change your infant's diaper. We ordered 3 drinks during our last visit. The Pistachio Latte is back in season. It is my favorite so I had to order this one. DH tried their Pistachio Cream Cold Brew. He said he liked it. The foam is on the sweet side. DD ordered the Paradise Drink. She felt it was lacking the pineapple bits; it's possible they forgot to add it to the drink. This store is wheelchair accessible. It isn't obvious from the front side on Alvarado St, because there are some steps going up to the front door. You have to go around the corner to use their other entrance.

Came by here the other day to grab a coffee and an egg and cheese protein box! Love the food and drinks, but tired of paying way too much for coffee! Service was good!

Open real early in the morning. My coffee was good. Decided to grab one and walk to fisherman wharf.

Great customer service! Friendly workers and great food. The new Jalapeño food item is amazing. And cute samples for the lobby

This Starbucks is conveniently located next to the Marriott Convention Center. It's a big location and I've always found it to be clean. The staff are friendly and make the drinks correctly. Even on red cup day they had things under control.

The new gold standard…read more Alta is the new gold standard by which I will unfortunately be judging every bakery from now on. Get there early or prepare to wait in line--the secret is very much out. And deservedly so. The staff is exceptionally friendly, the setting is wonderful, and somehow the food tastes even better than it looks, which is an accomplishment considering the artistry coming out of the pastry case. Alta occupies part of the historic Cooper-Molera Adobe complex, and its back garden may be one of the loveliest places I've ever eaten breakfast. Passionflowers tumble over walls and trellises, potted plants and mature trees soften the courtyard, and shade sails make it an incredibly pleasant place to linger over coffee and pastry. It feels less like café seating and more like breakfast in a particularly lovely California garden. And then there's the food. I came back two mornings in a row. The first day's quiche was ham and roasted pepper; the second was cheese and mushroom. Both were outstanding. The egg filling had this almost impossibly silky quality, with a beautifully browned top and crisp, buttery crust. I found myself deliberately slowing down because I genuinely wanted to savor every bite. The pistachio-rose swirl was exceptional: delicate, flaky layers with honey, pistachio and rose playing off one another without becoming cloyingly sweet or perfumey. It's the sort of pastry that reminds you what laminated dough is actually supposed to be. The maple-bacon swirl was the only thing that didn't quite reach the same stratospheric level. The flavor was good, but the rendered bacon fat seemed to fuse some of those beautiful layers together during baking. At most bakeries I probably still would have called it very good. Alta had simply set an absurdly high standard for itself. Then a table beside me ordered the smoked-salmon toast, I saw it arrive, and resistance became pointless. Warm, hearty, thick-cut bread topped with crème fraîche, radish, pickled red onion, greens and a genuinely generous amount of smoked salmon. A triumph. Even the pistachio-honey latte was a dream. I can't rave about Alta enough. My only complaint is that I didn't have more mornings in Monterey to work my way through the rest of the menu. It was one of the culinary highlights of the entire trip and is now my benchmark for what an excellent bakery can be. Alta, you have ruined lesser bakeries for me. Five stars. No notes. Except: make more pastries. I have unfinished business.

I asked the employee about it, and he told me it was because of the raspberry syrup, which honestly made absolutely no sense. I went back to the counter and asked if I could just get an iced coffee instead. Rather than making a new drink, he said he could add more matcha powder to the cup I already had. He did that, and somehow my matcha went from being white to gray. At that point, I was already pretty frustrated. I finally just asked for an iced coffee because I was over it. They handed me a completely black iced coffee. So I essentially paid $6 for them to pour coffee and water over ice. By that point, I was genuinely so irritated hearing the two coworkers make jokes about doing better next time etc that I just walked out. I completely understand that mistakes happen, but the entire situation was handled so poorly. I tried multiple times to resolve the issue, and somehow I still ended up with a drink I didn't want, after wasting both my time and my money. $6 might not seem like a lot, but paying for something you didn't order and then having the situation handled this poorly is incredibly frustrating. Definitely not the experience I expected, and unfortunately, not one I'd want to repeat.

Sometimes they've been lovely and bubbly, but for some reason this one blonde staff member never seems like she actually wants to help. I had some questions on summer specials since "refresher" doesn't tell me much and she kept telling me about other drinks instead and being super short. The whole interaction still only had to have taken 2 min with only one person (who had been there for a bit already and seems local/older) behind me. Yet the minute I paid, even though I apologized for the questions and tipped, she loudly and passive aggressively said "sorry for the wait" to the next person right in front of me and they both laughed right in front of my face. I read the other review of the person who said they'd been here a bunch and usually loved it and then had a bad interaction and are also not like the "usual" demo of PG - I am also a person of color who was made to feel the same way. Such a shame what one bad impression can leave. Multiple comments about this has to be more than a coincidence... There are a half dozen other breakfast spots in town that we enjoy when we are in Monterey - we blew all of them off. This place is too fast and too good, honestly to want to get in the car and head over to any of those other spots. Is this place fancy? No. Is this place big? No! Its tiny! Is the food gourmet? No! Getting to work at 5am on Saturday is terrible but I respect and appreciate a human response. I really like this place - even the pastries are good and thats a good thing because we bought a bunch of them. I will end with this and then leave you alone - we left this place at 615am and sat down in the main grandstand in Turn 4 at Laguna Seca at 715am to watch epic Historic car racing and sank my teeth into a HOT and beautiful croissant breakfast sandwich with bacon in it in the heavy fog.
