I stayed locally for the 5k and half marathon. I needed my daily caffeine fix and walked here every night for my venti vanilla latte. Sadly, this is the only location that gets it right. We wanted a coffee pick me up while also sitting down to rest our feet after spending the day sightseeing. We had walked the length of Alvarado Street to Fisherman's Wharf and had been on our return trip back. This is a large store with plenty of seating indoors, that does not feel cramped at all. The tables are situated with good distance in between. There's also a lot of seating on their outdoor patio that faces the street. An added bonus is that there are several Pokemon Go pokestops within range, which is handy if you're also playing this game while sightseeing around town. This was definitely convenient during our visit because I was also working on the "catch 200 pokemon in one day" task, which is required for going to level 41. And I managed to finish it during this visit. I noticed that there were a lot of students in the store and also waiting in line to order. We arrived late in the afternoon. I wonder if there is a high school nearby. There are 2 gender neutral restrooms, both with codes for entry. You'll find the restroom code written on a chalkboard sign that is on the door. I used one of the restrooms and was very surprised by how large it was (see photos). You might even be able to do cartwheels! However I noticed that they didn't have any type of diaper changing station in the room. So while you may be able to push your double stroller into the bathroom, you will not have a convenient place to change your infant's diaper. We ordered 3 drinks during our last visit. The Pistachio Latte is back in season. It is my favorite so I had to order this one. DH tried their Pistachio Cream Cold Brew. He said he liked it. The foam is on the sweet side. DD ordered the Paradise Drink. She felt it was lacking the pineapple bits; it's possible they forgot to add it to the drink. This store is wheelchair accessible. It isn't obvious from the front side on Alvarado St, because there are some steps going up to the front door. You have to go around the corner to use their other entrance. read more

Didn't wear a name badge, but he is a shorter guy with bunched up long hair. Wouldn't last a day in some of the busier stores I have been to. Clearly didn't want to be there, no service, not even the basics as the cashier that greets customers. The barista clearly didn't want to be there either. Mili is the name. She made the wrong drink, and she has the audacity to say it was my fault for not confirming the order. Maybe I should pull out my ordering history to show her who is right. Don't want to do this for a job, go find something else and not take it on the customers. Olivia and the other gentleman and jumped on the line were good, doing their best and offering excellent service. MUST READ. *food & health safety at risk. So I really thought Starbucks changed since the boycotting but apparently not. I had started becoming a frequent customer here, lately I haven't seen my favorite barista. I'm like hhhhmmmmmmmm, cause he makes my caramel macchiato so gooooooooood. Turns out he was fired! So I did my fbi girlie magic to figure out why. Inside sources say he was fired because he didn't have enough sick time to cover him calling out sick! Im like ?!?!?!?!?!?! Apparently the manager had previously confirmed that even if an employee has no sick pay available, they cannot come into work sick and must call out for health food and safety measures. If they come into work sick, they will be sent home. Makes sense. Especially with food borne illness symptoms, which he had. What does not make sense is that it was listed as a reason for termination on his paperwork. How hypocritical of that manager!!! Make it make sense. I know I for one, don't need a sick barista making my food or beverage. The FDA literally states that you must stay home when working with food and beverages if you have food-borne illness symptoms. I'm just saying, did the MANAGER really want him to come into work sick with food-borne illness symptoms and spread that to all the baristas and customers?!?!?! Literally profits over the health and safety of both customers and employees, unbelievable! So sad for my favorite barista, and unfair and wrong. I plan on boycotting Starbucks again. If enough people are interested, we should plan a week long protest in front of this location cause what the fuck is this bullshit, Starbucks taking their employees for granted. If anyone is wondering this is the Starbucks location on 316 Alvarado street, right in the corner. The manager's name is Iaian Lyle. I asked inside sources and the District Manager is Stacey Eurich. Don't be afraid to ask for a business card. Don't be afraid to ask if any of the baristas are sick cause I'm pretty sure they might be afraid of retaliation from the manager. Don't be afraid to make a call to the health department if you see a sick barista. Call the Monterey County Health Department and the California Department of Public Health. Also known as MCHD and CDPH. It is YOUR health and food safety at RISK. I'm grateful that the barista stayed home to protect us from also getting sick. Everytime I forget how awful this place is I quickly remember. They've never had a friendly staff, they have never been efficient or care about the quality of their drinks. I legit thought I was i a SNL skit. The barista (I think his name was Connor) could not be bothered to smile, make coffee with haste, properly craft the drinks or even look at you. As far as Starbucks go, I don't usually visit this location unless I am downtown and craving a hot beverage. And to be honest, I don't usually go to Starbucks unless I am using a gift card and or a treat for myself. No reason other than I am a teacher on a budget. I do like Starbucks though and this visit brought me in for a hot cup of coffee on a cold afternoon. My friend and I had been eating on Alvarado St., (outside of course!) and sitting outside can get cold! To heat up we decided on Starbucks. We ordered two blonde brews with room for cream. They told us we would have to wait for the coffee as they were going to make is special for us! Whoop, freshly brewed coffee. It took a while, not sure exactly how long, but long enough for my friend to go to the restroom and come back. Good news! The coffee was hot and fresh!! So yesterday I stopped by for a quick little latte, because I mean why not? Lol. I saw that they were quite a bit busy. I asked to speak with a manager to see why wait times were a little high, and to inquire about an experience I had with a different barista on a different day. Edward, a supervisor came to take care of my questions. It wasn't like wait times were that long, just a little. A little teeny bit, I was more curious than frustrated. I mostly wanted to ask about my last experience which wasn't the greatest. He was very concise and was able to explain to me the situation, the most transparent and very honest barista or managerial figure I've come across in all my time visiting Starbucks. After explaining that the team was down a barista and seeing everyone's effort they were putting in, it was very understandable. I'd say they were doing pretty great considering everything and still handling the small rushes. Especially considering there are tourists coming in for that marathon. I don't know if I would be able to do it lol. I come here regularly enough to know that Edward always puts in his best, even on days that are not the best. I'm not too sure if the manager of the store knows this, but more often than not, customers can tell when a team is short staffed and it doesn't provide the best experience. BUT Edward did make up for that. Even when he doesn't have to, (it's not his fault or anyone's fault they are down a person). He has a great personality and was very personable. He made me feel like I was a part of the store community rather than just another transaction or customer. As a customer it's nice to not be left in the dark as to why an order might take longer or as to why things are a little different. Edward is very much the light and cares about the details, and so if my order takes a few minutes longer to be made correct and just the way I ordered, ( I'm a little picky); then that is all right by me. He was also able to give me reasonable explanations as to what might have happened during my last visit. I have been a customer at this location for a while now and recently the past few managers haven't been able to make the experience to the same level. Which is why whenever I come in, I look forward to seeing Edward. He has always been very consistent and knows how to make things right. I've been meaning to write a review, I've just been so busy with work and stuff. But yea, I think this location has a very unique person on their team. Five stars for Edward. Well, what a disappointment. Only been here twice. Ordered coffee thru mobile. First visit was super quick, in and out. On our second visit, we ordered hot macchiatos and the lid from one of the cups came off and unfortunately the entire cup slipped out of my hands and spilled onto my fiancés jeans (I was standing he was sitting) so he went to the bar and asked for a rag to clean the coffee from his jeans. We cleaned up and he went back in the shop (I was outside with our dog) to return the rag and ask for a replacement cup. The barista asked for the order and he showed her the mobile order receipt - the barista scoffed and said that she had a large amount of orders ahead. After about 15 mins or so, he went back in and a different barista asked for the order and he said he already was being helped. However, the new barista said that the coworker LEFT and was not coming back and therefore needed the drink order again so they can remake it. Unbelievable. Yes, not their fault that I had an accident. But accidents happen. It took about 40 mins for a replacement coffee (thank you again). This branch is located on the main shopping strip and there's bustling activity near the wharf. It appeared that this location is consistently busy but don't have adequate staff to handle the volume of in-person customers and mobile order. I recommend that the DM adds adequate staffing as the employees that are they could really use support. Maybe even some proper training on not waking out when there's orders needing to be fulfilled on your shift and customers waiting for their almost $6 coffee. read more

It was the slowest service I've ever experienced at a Starbucks. I've been staying in downtown Monterey for five days. I walk from my hotel for coffee every morning (Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday). I always wait at least five minutes at the counter for an employee to greet me and take my order. One morning, I stood in line for five minutes waiting to order while an employee stocked the refrigerated section beside me. I usually waited 5-10 minutes for regular drip coffee. Ordered 2 Tall Nonfat sugar free cinnamon Dulce's. Extra hot. It took quite a while to get and it wasn't very busy. The drink was good and extra hot. Great cinnamon taste. Something diffrent. Felt a little annoyed with the barista Shawna. She put one drink out and we waited a while and nothing came and then I got her attention and said there should be another drink and she said I know, it's coming. Just wait and laughed. Oh well. I was in a hurry and came in for a quick bite and coffee, ordered the egg bites and americano. Of course coffee was quick, but the egg bites took about 15 minutes. No joke! I watched everyone that ordered AFTER me get their egg bites and I just waited and waited. Finally I mentioned something and they said someone took my order and will make a new one. Again, I was in a hurry to begin with so I was super annoyed. I get my egg bites, they were COLD! Absolutely disappointed. On top of that the fork they gave me snapped in half the second I used it, egg bites are soft, how does a fork just snap? Very friendly prompt service. The only reason I am holding back on giving a 5 star rating is that this location did not have two venti-sized ceramic mugs. My friend got the venti and I had to go with a grande due to the lack of mugs. No one else was using one, so it appears they simply did not stock them. The location is clean. There is 24 minute parking in a couple of spaces out front. There were no large comfy chairs that I typically prefer in Starbucks at this location, so that was a bit of a bummer too. read more
