Not as nice as other Starbucks, but you do get the same experience. The location is actually pretty nice, on the corner of Cota and State Street. The inside is probably the worst layout I've seen so far. There's a few tables along the windows and walls, but not many. It just seems very narrow. The service here is identical to many locations. However, one worker did toss my baked good to another worker to place in the oven once. It's just a minor detail, but that never happened until I came here. This is what I would describe as a "no frills" Starbucks, and just a place to grab a coffee. Not a place to stay awhile, or study, or read a book. At first glance, a nice large Bucks. Then you come to realize they have funky along the wall seating, no comfy leather chairs, and for the size of the place, this doesn't really make sense. A 3.5 star location at best. Always an issue. I order from this location 3-6 times a week due to the proximity to my office. I always order through the app for self pickup. Lately I am the only one ( person of color) that is asked to show my order receipt to prove my order pick up with my name actually belongs to me. This happens every time a specific male individual is working. 12pm March 12 2022 . I plan on speaking with his manager on Monday because I watched several non persons of color come in to this location with him and say there name with showing proof of purchase and this gentleman giving them there drinks with out issues or comment. I was in the store today and a girl and her grandma came in ordered there drink and the grandma pulled out one of the lower chairs to sit in while waiting for her drink (you can clearly see she's an elderly woman who needed to take a seat) this blonde manager walked by and said "you can't sit there" waited for her to push the chair back in and walked away. There are tables open but they are high chairs and tables and no way an elderly person can get up and down off those chairs. This wasn't even my grandma but I was extremely offended. They should be more accommodating to older people and learn to have better customer service especially if you're a manager. Just terrible. read more

They have a lot of homeless hanging out on the public sidewalks around the store, but it's not something Starbucks can control. They are very slow here. I had a mobile order and when I showed up, ~ 10 minutes after my order, 1/2 of my order was ready. As I was waiting, I noticed people who ordered after I arrived we're getting their order. So, I asked the barista what was the status of my order. She looked at the other gentleman, said something to him and both kept making other drinks. So, I asked again and the barista, wouldn't look at me and told me there was no other mobile order. So, I politely asked her to double check because it didn't make any sense that only 1/2 my order went through. After another wait, the gentleman looked at the computer/register and realized there was another order. Instead of apologizing, she never looked at me, made my drink and placed it on the counter. Ok - If I have to review a Bucks you know I got something... For some reason, this location didn't come up on my Google Maps. Maybe its a really new location? I visited this Starbucks three times in two days and it was good. They have quick service and most of the people working there are nice. However, I asked for water with no ice and they gave me ice twice. When I brought it up, the barista was a little snotty with me. I tweeted Starbucks about the ice issue and they replied. Perhaps they'll change their policy because giving customers ice without asking is weird. The body assimilates water best at room temperature and they could at least ask first. read more

This is the better Starbucks location on State Street! Some reviewers have been confusing this location with the always-super-packed Starbucks across from the Paseo Nuevo mall that has the 2nd story loft (800 State Street): http://www.yelp.com/biz/starbucks-coffee-santa-barbara Though this Starbucks is a bit smaller than the other location across from the Paseo Nuevo mall, it doesn't have such a horrendous line/wait or crowds. Orders are prepared within just a few minutes! How much nicer this is from the other Starbucks, where you have to regularly (I've never been to that location without a crowd packed to the door) stand in line for ~10 minutes to place your order and then wait another 10-15 minutes for your drink to be ready. It's terrible there! I am willing to bet that the time it takes to walk the extra couple blocks down State Street to this location (from the other one), get your drink, and walk back up State, will still be less than it takes to get a drink from that other Starbucks. This is by far the best place to go for coffee and tea in Santa Barbara! After years of drinking here I can honestly say they have the best staff, the tastiest drinks and the perfect location. One of my favorite times of year is the Santa Barbara International Film Festival in January/February. Each year the "Festival Hub" is at the Hotel Santa Barbara which is located right next to this Starbucks so usually I check out the festival board then walk next store and grab a cup of coffee before the movies start. Later on in the festival when I feel like writing some film reviews or just checking my email I always go to this Starbucks and sit for a few minutes. Plus, now they have free wifi! Nice ambience and good music. Courteous staff! However not kept clean:-( The pick up counter has spilled coffee and hasn't been cleaned in the 15 minutes I've been here. And it's not busy. Cashier was friendly however barista made my drink incorrectly - salted caramel Mocha frap and she put no salt or caramel in it- when I potent asked for the missing ingredients she grabbed my drink shook a tiny put of salt on it slapped the lidded I it making a large mess and it still had no caramel. Worst Starbucks I've ever been too! This place was filthy and the restrooms were disgusting with no toilet paper. When we let the baristas know, they said they were too busy to worry about the restrooms even though there was only 1 person in line. In addition, when I asked if they made a been there mug for Santa Barbara, they said that the been there series didn't do any cities just states which is obviously false. Stopped in here and was pleasantly surprised by the customer service. As I say in all of my coffee house reviews, I'm a former Starbucks barista and expect nothing but the best from Starbucks stores. More often than not, I'm sorely disappointed. This store was great. Upon reaching the register, I got a huge smile for the cute barista girl and immediate conversation. The barista making drinks looked up from his work, smiled, and said hi. Everyone was very personable. My drink came out quickly and when I asked for an extra cup of ice (I ruined myself from adding too much ice when I worked for Starbucks), I got a smile and a "sure" instead of the usual annoyed silence. You can bet that I'll be stopping here for a mid-trip north for a refill!!! read more
