This is one of my favorite Starbucks locations. I come here often when I come into Scotts Valley to work. They are always so friendly and kind at this location. I love that they gave us samples the day that I came today. They had samples of cookies and the new pumpkin spice cold brew. The ambiance is absolutely beautiful. I placed an order ahead from the App, then went in with my very well behaved Australian Shepherd to get a Pup Cup, as I have done in 30 or more other Starbucks all over California. When I got in there and ordered the Pup Cup, a rather haughty woman worker came over and asked me to take my dog outside and that they are not allowed. This was a first, and we've been to a LOT of Starbucks. The drink was just ok, but the service was absolutely nothing to brag about. My life has been SUPER stressful and chaotic lately that I cannot even for the life of me begin to recall as to *why* I was in Scotts Valley, CA one early and chilly Wednesday morning...more than likely I had been up all night the day before and felt very sleep deprived as a result from all this Family Law "B.S." with my "ex" with which/whom I have to deal now...I figured I needed a simple and small black coffee with room for cream would be the best way to get my day off with some good ole' release of dopamine. OH. MY. GAWD. How hard is to to boil/serve straight up coffee?! There were at least a dozen patrons and 9 of them *had* their food and beverage(s) already prior to my arrival. There was one person in front of me who had a short order. My drink order (at least to me) seemed simple enough that it should not have taken hardly any time at all to make. I had an appointment at 8:00 a.m. back over Hwy 17, and here I am, sitting, having already placed my order at or around 7:15 a.m. PST... 10...then 15...then 20 minutes go by...STILL NO BLACK COFFEE!!! I politely asked the barista who had just finished making the woman's (who was in front of me at the time we were placing our orders) drinks about mine and she straight up said, looking me dead in the eye, "Oh, my shift's over now." I hardly ever find a Starbucks that I have to review this low but the barista was very snippy about a bakery product I eat almost every day at my "home" Starbucks. It is a great product when handled as directed by Starbucks supplier. Though I disagreed with his serving comments his response was off-putting. He must have realized my disappointment because midway through the visit, he replaced the product with an apology. Only a partial save though as Starbucks baristas are usually quite well trained in customer service and this never would have happened in any of my very busy local stores. The store is quite cute with a clock tower in top and very roomy inside with some nice shady outside tables on a hot day. Maybe just a slow day but enough square footage any of our local managers would be jealous of. My drink was fine. read more

Currently a walk in only option, but as I'm writing this they are planning to have three outdoor tables facing scott's valley road in what has become in the last year of low maintenance a sort of secret garden. Very cozy spot but in the mornings make sure you wear a sweater. A thick one. Made of wool. Service has always been a strong suite here and that's not changed. For a walk up the coffee is lightning fast to come out even if you are not a online app user dou....er highly efficient person making the best use of your time. If you are in a hurry for coffee this place is a better bet then the any nearby drive through. So yeah, it's a starbucks. Quick, easy, and very consistent. All that with some secretive green seating. read more

This is the second time now, but I choose to ignore it and just ask them to fill it with more pumpkin spice. The manager was pushy and told me they would just fill it up with milk. Came in during a a little rush hour. Raven, a barista, immediately greeted and welcomed me in. I was blown away by her amazing personality and care. They were also extremely friendly to every single customer that they interacted with, giving compliments and asking how their days were going. It's nice to see high quality customer service again (UGH Covid is rough on both workers and customers) , and Raven is the PERFECT EXAMPLE for fantastic customer service. Just as great as any other Starbucks! It's a Starbucks and the drinks are the same as any other Starbucks in America, but the staff is super nice. I remember two separate times where another customer had accidentally taken my drink. I stood in line (the only person in line) waiting to be acknowledged for several minutes while the cashier chatted about life and schedules and school with a woman who already had her coffee. I found it rude. As it is I avoid Starbucks because I prefer locally owned mom and pop places, and I try to avoid the pesticides on Starbucks coffee. Customer service means at least acknowledging the person who is waiting with a "I'll be right with you!" Or a smile. And finishing up your lengthy chat. read more

The woman at the register was emotionless and careless. I told my friend maybe she's having a bad day. My friend told me this was not the first time. I've been to this Starbucks plenty of times. I commute from SJ to Santa Cruz for work and usually like to get fresh coffee right before I start my early morning shift. I've been going here since it's on my way and the closest to hwy 17. From my experience, I've been going here for quite awhile now and I have not gotten a good service. Every time I go, I end up waiting at least 15-20 minutes for my espresso or lattes. The barista that's making the drinks in the morning, always looks like she hates her job. She doesn't smile nor greet customers when handing drinks (the least she could do after takin a while on making the drinks). For all the times, I've been here, I haven't been satisfied with my drinks. It's either too sweet, cold, or only fill drinks half way of the size you bought!!! I don't know why I still go here, maybe coz its conveniently next to the fwy? I started ordering a head of time through the new App on my phone, and yet I still wait for my drink. Overall, after giving this place too many chances, I probably won't be back here for a while. Waste of my money for a coffee that's not even Starbucks standard rating. I hope the manager of this location do something about this, because this place is a disgrace and making the reputation of Starbucks looks really bad!!! read more

I love this Starbucks!! The staff is so friendly Without fail when ever I go through the drive through no matter who it is at the speaker or the window big genuine smiles and they always say hi to my dog and ask if he wants a pup a chino. I do think that I should let everyone know that that even know it's cute concept that it could really make your dog sick from all the sugar. Maybe they could create a Starbucks doggie cookie with there logo on it and sell them to raise money for animals in need. I know I would buy one every time I go. Just a thought. read more

Plus one star was because of receiving a tasty drink. Now on with the other 3 that are missing: I understand it's Starbucks but I still expect to have a human on the other side of the register, who is not so programmed that they can't understand words of the English language which are not on their menu. This ONE lady, the only older lady who was working today, was very rude. Not only did she act like I was asking her to solve some complex problem instead of asking for a drink with half the flavor, she gave serious attitude from start to finish. I had to repeat what I was asking for 4 times!!! When we went to grab our food, she snapped and told us "that's not where you get your drinks." Um, we were well aware and were waiting for our food so told her that and she continued the snappy behavior. I've been to this Starbucks before and service was fine but this one bad apple can ruin it for others. Only bad experience I've had here was the day they were training a new barista on her first day, which is understandable. They even offered to comp my drink, which I declined. All the baristas I've encountered are very friendly. They will remake your drink if it doesn't suit your tastes (a common practice at most Starbucks stores). That being said, I usually visit in the evening, I cannot make any comments on the earlier shifts. Other Yelpers that rated this Starbucks one star seem to not comprehend how coffee shops work: 1) Maida, if your cup is not full to the brim, it's to add cream and sugar at the condiment stand. Ask for no room next time. 2) Nicole, sign up for Starbucks Rewards to get discounts. A barista cannot rightfully charge you for a small if you order a large drink. 3) David, it's a coffee shop, not your personal office. Looks to me like the newest design utilizes the space efficiently. What's the corporate mentality? Providing a safe space where customers enjoy their food and drinks? My only complaint is that they close early, but then again it's Scotts Valley; the whole town is asleep by 8 p.m. read more

Great friendly service. I just subtract a star because there is something up with the electrical outlets and my laptop wouldn't charge. I heard someone else complain about the same thing. Tried two outlets. So if you are just there for a tasty beverage, no problem. If you'd like to get some work done too, you can as long as your laptop battery lasts. read more

I'm literally shocked with the Service my daughter and I received this morning 7/23/19 Order was one drink and breakfast muffin. Drink was a frap so it needed a straw. She stayed at the counter to get one. They ignored her for approximately 5 mins, she's 11 so I'm letting her deal with things. After this long wait, I get up to say excuse me. She's been waiting patiently to ask for a straw and you keep ignoring her! Can she have one? The girl said we use the new sip lids. I said does this look like a sip lid to you? Oh, no but we don't give out straws without you asking for one. I replied I understand that but she shouldn't have to wait 5 mins on top of being ignored by 3 employees. Returning to our seats to wait for her muffin. Waiting waiting... now it's been 15 mins. I get up to ask is our muffin ready yet? It's been 15 mins, oh... let me check, oh yes, we have so many mobile orders so it will be right up. Wait so the mobile orders are priority over in house customers? She had no reply. I offered some advice... It might be a good idea to have one employee handle Mobile Orders and not have the employee that is running the register doing both tasks. read more

It's hard to rate a Starbucks very high from the get go due to their burnt roasted coffee, which they have tried to persuade Americans into believing as high quality Coffee. With that being said, there is no doubt there are taste buds out there that will think this is actually good Coffee, it's kind of like high end Cigars that have "peppery" characteristics (Translation in the Cigar world, peppery = bitter and burnt) Some people just love that, and pay $20+ a stick for it. Go for it, guys! Some may ask "Then why the hell do you go there sir?" a fair question, sometimes it's just convenient and I can be lazy, now get off my back about it. With all that out of the way, onto why I give this particular Sbux 1 star. Going here off and on since this location opened, lately it has just really went down hill. It was once one of the most unique ones you could visit, and that's saying something because Starbucks try so hard to all be the same (And they looove diversity, hah!!!) Really ever since the College shut down, new management not as good as old, used to be open till 9pm, now 8pm, I understand it's from low customer numbers but wow that one was annoying. The worst thing of all, the evening Barista's just aren't as friendly as they used to be, I'm almost made to feel like a stalker just asking them how the day is going. I have stopped into this particular Starbucks several times to pick-up my regular vanilla latte. I think every time I have come in this location, I always seem to hear one of the baristas behind the counter saying 'hello' or 'thanks for stopping in', or just provide some sort of positive greeting. The baristas are always friendly, the coffee shop always seems to be clean and tidy, usually have plenty of food items that I like in-stock. I think the only criticism I would give this Starbucks and others is there are times when the vanilla lattes taste different and not always consistent (or at least close to the same taste). I would only assume this is from the different baristas that make the drinks. All in all, recommend this Starbucks location. read more
