Wonderful to go to a truly honest business. I brought my 5 yr old Dyson Cintic Ball in because the beater head stopped working. I thought and they also thought that the beater was the issue. The ordered me another one and I had also asked for it to be cleaned. When I picked it up it was only the price of the cleaning (99) instead of (249) ! They were able to clean the Dyson and the beater started working again! Praise God! Very honest, they could have made more money if they had not been honest instead they went above and beyond my expectations. I have a 14 year old Kirby Ultimate G. It sadly hasn't been sucking like it use to. I went into Starks to get more bags for it and mentioned to the sales guy that it isn't working quite right. He asked if I had replaced the belt in the last 6 months? Ummmm no, haven't replaced the belt in the last 6 years! I bought a new belt and a bulk of vacuum bags. Came home, watched a YouTube video on replacing the belt. Guess what?! He was right. The belt was almost torn in half it was so old. The new belt could fit inside the old one, it was so worn out. Now my vacuum works like it did 14 years ago. The moral of the story is friendly, honest and helpful service will guarantee me as a client. I'll pay the extra for the bags and belt for this reason alone. We were going to buy an $80 part online, when all it needed was a $4 belt. SHARKS NOT STARKS I went to Stark's in Gresham the other day to have my vacuum cleaned and serviced. The belt had hair and string wrapped around it, it wasn't getting very good suction, and it just needed a good cleaning. Over the years I have always just trusted what they told me, as I've purchased several vacuums cleaners and had several repaired at Sharks in Gresham. First, the girl at the desk asked me how much I paid for my vacuum, which I thought was a weird question, but I told her I didn't remember then she wanted to know how long I had had my vacuum, again wondering what that had to do with cleaning my vacuum, told her probably about 1-1.5 years. She took out the filters and showed me how dirty they were and told me that I need all new filters, one of which was $25. She quoted me $160 to clean my vacuum. I told her to put the filters back in and that I would clean it myself. Just out of curiosity I went over to Best Buy where I had purchased it and found I could buy the same one for $215. So when I got home I took out my manual and read that the filters do not need to be replaced they can be rinsed out and cleaned with plain water. So, I removed all 3 filters and rinsed them out good and took out my sharp sewing scissors and cut out all the string and hair myself. The whole process took less than 25 minutes. Walla, a vacuum just like new! So, ladies, THEY WANT TO SELL YOU A NEW VACUUM CLEANER. They do not want to clean & service your current vacuum cleaner! That's why the strange questions about how much I paid for it and how long I had it. So, unless you don't mind spending $160 to service a $200-$300 vacuum cleaner or purchasing a new one every time yours gets all gunked-up save your manuals so you can read how to pull out the filters and clean them yourself. And just take out your sharp sewing scissors and cut out the hair & string yourself. Seriously, ladies, I'm 61 years old and it took me less than 25 minutes. Most of the current vacuum cleaners today have the foam and cloth filters that can easily be rinsed out and cleaned with just plain water. The people at Starks are NOT going to tell you this. They are either going to charge you for new filters and a new roller OR they are going to try to sell you a new vacuum cleaner. If you are like me and your vacuum tends to get gunked-up over time - SAVE YOUR MONEY and try to clean it yourself first before going over to Starks! I will NEVER take a vacuum or buy a vacuum from Starks again. They lost a lifelong customer! read more

Couple of pretty bad experiences at this store. The counter people don't seem to know the business very well for one, I found that on two visits. The last visit, the counter person was really quite arrogant and not very knowledgeable when I asked about vacuum cleaner bags, didn't seem to know what they had, the quality/purpose or the price. I ended going up the street to Gresham Janitorial Supply and found the right item without delay and very helpful information and they were less than half the price. They also referred me to a parts and repair business for all of my vacuum needs. They had also had complaints about Stark's. I won't be going back to Stark's any time soon! read more

We have mostly hardwood and vinyl throughout our home so the traditional upright vacuums meant for carpet pick up aren't he best fit. I never knew that before I bought our new vacuum at Stark's. I appreciate being educated and learning. Plus, it's made right here in the good ol' U.S.ofA.! That was November of '15. Just recently the expandable arm got stuck. When I took it in to Stark's for trouble shooting, they just replaced it, no questions asked. How easy and convenient. We're very happy to support local businesses AND be treated great. read more

I had stumbled across the Stark's Vacuums website after doing a search for protective face masks. Based upon an appealing ad, I decided to order online .. six (6) blue masks (the offer included two (2) free masks). These were three layer, washable masks. The ordering process was simple enough and shipping time was acceptable enough. The masks, packaged individually, were shipped in a traditional plastic shipping bag. Each individual mask package also included a small instruction sheet. They were manufactured in Vietnam, if that's relevant. Rather than opening ANY of the six blue masks, I opted to open just one of the two free (black) masks. At first glance, they just seemed to look a tad bit small. But thinking I wasn't risking anything, I went ahead and gently hand washed and air dried one of the two free (black) masks, per the instruction sheet, prior to use. The next day, I attempted to try it on. Unfortunately, the mask was just too small and had no stretchability to it at all. I could not apply it ear to ear without putting my face into some contorted, uncomfortable position. Long story short, this supposed one size fits all type mask was designed for a much smaller face than mine (in my opinion). I certainly do not have a large/wide facial area or large head. Thinking that I could simply return the original unopened order, I was told via email that no returns would be accommodated for sizing issues. Supposedly, these masks 'fit most people'. Only defective masks would be replaced. Lesson learned the hard way as I had to eat the cost of seventy-seven dollars (or alternatively, sell these masks, give them away or just toss them). I decided to simply toss them away and chalk it up to a poor shopping decision. Frankly, I don't accept the claim these masks fit 'most people'.. While I certainly cannot comment on any other offerings on the Starks(dot)com website, I would recommend other websites as your choice for protective masks. And yes, I had reviews on their website prior to ordering. In short, this was my first (and last) experience with Starks(dot)com. In hindsight, it would have been wiser to have ordered just two masks (their minimum online order), which would have limited my loss in case of a sizing issue, which I did not anticipate. Obviously, I am disappointed that I was not allowed to return my order of six unopened masks. Readers can take what they wish from my experience, but at the very least, only order the minimum number of masks and make your judgments from there. If you're satisfied, you can order more. If not, your loss will be minimal. The images of the masks on their website looked appealing enough in general appearance (and I liked the idea of them being three layered), but you are left to presume that they will fit as images can be deceiving. I can only suggest seeking independent reviews of a product before actual purchase, from multiple online websites, to ensure that reviews actually consist of positive AND negative comments of the product. read more

When I was young and poor, I sold vacuum cleaners door-to-door, so I like hanging out and talking shop with the guys at Stark Street Vacuum. They carry a wide range of quality brands, from economy to expensive. What they don't carry, is the stuff you shouldn't consider buying. I bought an Oreck from them twenty years ago when my house still had carpeting, because they said it was the "best thing" for carpets. "Best thing" turned out to be an understatement because that thing can suck the dirt right through the carpet backing. It's really a great, light-weight vacuum. My daughter just got her first apartment and she took the old Oreck with her. A few years back, we pulled all the carpeting out of our house, revealing beautiful golden oak floors underneath. We went back to Stark Street, and this time bought a Miele canister. The Miele is powerful, flexible, and very well engineered. The guys at Start Street once again pointed us in the right direction. Besides carrying every bag and belt imaginable, Stark Street Vacuum also provides service and repair. This is where I go for vacuum cleaners, because they do vacuum cleaners better than anyone else. read more

I was charged and never received them. They answer the phone and tell you that you can only inquiire on their website. Frustrated with buying a new vacuum every two years, I marched into Starks 'just to look'. I knew the company has been around forever but remained cautious. Ok, I was stubborn. I'm not a pushover. I did allow Jesse to explain the pros and cons of canister versus upright. He found the Sebo upright that has a removable brush roller that made me happy. There is an awesome service plan too. So, I now own a kick-ass vacuum that will have regular maintenance. Jesse remained patient and helpful through my initial skepticism. When our vacuum of 10 years broke I took it to Starks vacuums. One of the reps there helped me find a new vacuum that would be perfect for what we needed. He began by asking about our lifestyle, if we had pets, kids, where outdoorsy and tracked in mud, and all sorts of other things. On 1/5/15 I took my Hoover Wind Tunnel vacuum into Starks because there was a clog in the bottom part of the hose and with no instructional booklet from Hoover in original purchase, could not get to the clog. They were able to take it apart for me, unclog the hose, cleaning out and put it back together. They said no charge. Offered to pay but they wouldn't' accept. Sooo wish I had purchased it there instead of Gresham Freddy's. They wouldn't have been as helpful.This is one more reason I like to support local businesses and given the chance down the road to need anything they carry there, will give Stark's Gresham my business...thank you again, Stark's for the great customer service read more

I can't say enough about how much I love this place. And, I know it's weird to be passionate about a vacuum store but hear me out. In this disposable world, this is one of the few products I'm willing to invest more for quality, exceptional service, and a lasting product. I'm on my third vacuum here in 16 years. How many vacuums have you burned through in that time? Honestly, my old Royal Privilege was still totally functional - strong suction and all features operational - but it was 8 years old and I wanted something new. I sent my mom and teenager in to pick something out and they brought home a Simplicity Symmetry. After a few months, I decided I didn't like it as well as my old Royal and brought the Simplicity back to Starks to exchange today. It was pouring buckets outside and the sales guy Alex Krause ran out cart my vacuum out of my trunk and carried it in, holding the door for me (though he's the one carrying my vacuum!) I was well outside the return policy but Alex allowed me to exchange and "downgrade" to the newer model of basically the same Royal. He helped me pick and knew the features and how they compare. He waived the $56 penalty for late exchange and I was able to exchange my Vacuum plus bags and spare belts, and the paid the difference in price only. After swiping my card, I remembered I wanted some of that awesome natural orange air freshener they sell there and Alex gave me the sample bottle (for free). He didn't have to - I was already happy with his exceptional service, but he thanked me for being a loyal, longtime customer. So often - daily - we experience terrible service for crap but necessary products (ahem, Ross DFL) and I've come to expect that really. I still come back, cuz it's cheap and convenient. When it comes to buying a vacuum, I'd never buy anywhere but Stark's because I know if there are any issues at all, they'll fix it or replace it (tried and tested). Their employees are well trained and knowledgeable and I trust them because they don't try to upsell but instead match you with the best vacuum for your needs. I bought my Simplicity vacuum from Stark's in Gresham and I really do think it may last my lifetime. I received amazing customer service when I bought my vacuum, and I have found that the price I paid was very reasonable for the quality product I bought. Many of my friends have spent just as much as I did on their Dysons, and they have all experienced either difficulty using it or had it malfunction.My Simplicity has worked fabulously ever since I bought it and there were no issues when I took it in for service. Stark's is the most affordable place to buy replacement bags and to take a vacuum for servicing that you can trust. Two words come to mind here: Old School. I really always try to get something that is of good quality, and then maintain and/or fix it. I was getting un-enamored with my previous vacuum, but having a hard time cutting it loose. Then my friend literally brought hers over to show me how well it works (and it's over 5 years old). I was astounded with her Simplicity Freedom. So I called Gresham Stark's Vacuums this morning because, frankly, they had the best reviews on Yelp, and I didn't have much else to go on. I can only endorse everything others have said on here. The store was pretty busy for a Thursday morning, and that kind of speaks to how happy people are to come here, too. I was expecting to find a bored vacuum salesperson slouched behind the counter, but it was really hopping in there. Nevertheless, Jesse was really helpful. I really felt that he was listening to my needs and preferences, and was able to answer from a solid knowledge base. Above all - I never felt that he was trying to up-sell me. I left with a Simplicity Freedom (having decided against the attachments), a very reasonable service plan, and - miraculously - a long-lost desire to have a go at my carpets. read more

Clerk was upset because I didn't know part or model number, and she said, "Ill have to look it up on Google", after 10 minutes or so, she found the filters, 2 for about $8.00. As an owner of a small business doing janitorial work, I asked of they had a business or wholesale discount, alas NO, I found the same filters on Ebay for a LOT less, with free shipping. We purchased a Royal vacuum about 4 years ago. I went in to purchase a belt and they did not have one and was looking at other belts. Since the vacuum was damaged, which I think was a design flaw since we only used the vacuum once a week upstairs, there wasn't much they can do. Today I took my Dyson DC 41 to Stark's to see if they could help with a jam I just couldn't fix on my own. The store was full of people and I was impressed when the gentleman working ( I wish I got his name!) took the time to patiently work on my crappy vacuum.-for free! To my embarrassment he retrieved an uncooked bow tie noodle from it. I saw him give a demonstration of Simplicity vacuums and although they are not inexpensive, they look like they could suck the hair off our black Lab, that our Dyson and also a Hoover Wind Tunnel just can't touch. I came home and fired up my Dyson and it jammed again. It's time to buy a quality vacuum and we will buy from Stark's. You can't beat their customer service! read more
