Dec 3rd I called Matt at Earth Appliance. It has been a disaster from the beginning. He put in the wrong part, then I had to wait a month or more for him to get the right part. I had already paid for this. My washer also needed a drain pump he said he would do that for free. When he had come back to put the drain pump in, he said it was the wrong. The owner, Matthew Tarnasky from Earth Appliance, unresponsive and difficult to work with. I paid Matt $398.08 to fix my washer and dryer that he said will work like new after we replace and repair the broken parts. When the parts that he ordered arrived, I called to schedule a follow up appointment. He was really hard to reach. We finally got in contact with him after a week of him having the parts. For some reason he kept on calling for the modal number. We gave it to him for the 3rd time and we also emailed him the numbers just in case he forgets it again. We settled on a time for him to come and fix the washer & dryer, however; on the day of the appointment, he never showed up! I waited all day. I contacted him. No response. He got back to me next day and asked to reschedule. Finally he showed up and attempted to fix everything. He said they are working like new again. We washed our clothing. Washer worked fine. The dryer on the other hand did not work properly. Thumping sounds and loud vibrations that did not sound normal. It started to cut off after a short period of time never drying the clothing. I called and emailed him. No response. On the day of the appointment, he never showed up!! Now we have wet clothing in the dryer. I left work early, made it home to accommodate his schedule and prepared to be home for the few hours he said it would take to complete the job. No call No show! Finally a few days later I got in contact with him and scheduled another appointment. He came and said "I'm finished." Again, it took him 20 MINUTES!!! We ran the dryer and it took 3 cycles to get the clothing dry. Now we are just wasting electricity just for a small load. We contacted Matthew Tarnasky again and he said he will come by the next day. He never showed up again! He said that he didn't have my number! How do you not have a customer's number? It should be in your phone and in all the 50 emails that we sent him. How many chances can I give this guy. We can't waist anymore time and will have to pay for a new dryer now. Awful experience! Unresponsive customer service! Very disappointing! Our dishwasher stopped in the middle of the wash cycle. A GF had referred me to Earth Appliance. I called and left a message. Matt called back and made an appointment for the next day and we were up and washing again. Our dual fuel stove was also not working and I asked Matt if he worked on stoves which he did. Although he wasn't able to fix the stove he certainly went out of his way to do everything he could to repair rather than replace the stove. And for all that he did he did not charge for his services which is a rare trait in this day and age. read more

Talk to me! I am from Los Angeles and find Portland to be a challenge when it comes to finding great service folks. Like this...well there is a fee for getting to your home, $75 then there is our service fee ....per hour, plus parts and whatever else....it is insane. I even had one guy say it is $175 an hour and the clock starts when I leave my office!!! Whaaaat? Good grief you cannot make this crazy up.... Anywho, this place ROCKS...the old fashioned way. I had Matt come over and service my refrigerator. He was able to come out the next day. Sent text updates throughout the morning as to his expected ETA. Initially contracted with him since his diagnosis fee was one of the cheapest I could find. In my case, this paid off, since it actually turned out to be a very minor issue that he was able to fix in about 5 mins. He didn't just leave after that though, he stuck around and showed me some helpful maintenance tasks on my fridge to help extend it's lifetime. He also showed me a few fixes around my kitchen (ex: cracked front panel on range) that he could do if we ever wanted them fixed. Apparently has a good selection of used and refurbished parts in stock that will save you some $$$ on repair costs if you needed to go with a replacement. Luckily I didn't, but good to know for the next time. Might not be the best option for warranty work, but if it's out of warranty, then it's a great deal IMO. Father and son operation. They used to own a used appliance store, so these guys know their stuff. Will call them again with my next appliance repair needs (hopefully not for a while). read more

So a new range was purchased from an online retailer (Goedeker's) for my mother's house but we would have to arrange an install since the retailer is in another state. I contacted several appliance places; however, it was difficult to find one that would install someone else's appliance, but Matt at Earth Advantage advised he would be able to R&R the new range. We agreed on a date and he was able to come out early in the morning and install the unusually sized range (27" drop-in) for a reasonable price. Beware - Do Not Work With This Company! More than six months ago I contacted Matt to come fix my fridge and dishwasher. Should have been a simple two visit job - come check out the problem, order the parts, come back and fix the problem. Six visits later, dozens and dozens of missed appointments and excuses and still the job is not completed. 2 1/2 weeks ago it looked as though the job was finally done - I paid Matt (he tried to get me to pay more than the invoice said) and he left, only to find that he hadn't reinstalled the base screws so the dishwasher is not secured. Almost every day since then he has promised to come back and reinstall the screws, but always cancels with some lame excuse. At this point, I assume he's just messing with me. Now I'll have to pay somebody else to come finish his job. It would almost be funny if it wasn't' so pathetic. You've been warned! read more

Found Matt through CL and he is the best and go to guy for any appliance repair. My Oven Microwave combo (Microwave doesn't heat food) broke back in December 2017. Initially, I hired a different technician (From Angieslist based on reviews) to diagnose and to get it fixed. He came to my home and looked at the microwave (Just looked at it. Didn't even try to open the microwave for diagnoses) and diagnosed transformer failure and gave me an estimate for both parts and labor for 950$. He also advised me to go for a new one as it's not worth spending to fix it. I even asked him how can he conclude that the transformer failure without opening it (I paid this guy for nothing :( ). I had a feeling it could be something simple, so wanted to try a different technician. I found Matt through CL, explained him the symptoms through text and right away he guessed (switch which is just 25$). He came after few days and in 10 minutes, he replaced the switch and here you go (Microwave starts working :) ) He is very knowledgeable, flexible, responsive and overall a great appliance repair guy. It was a Friday night when we heard that one side of our Thermidor oven door was dislodged from its hinge. We were in a bit in a panic because we needed the property ready for its sale closing on Monday. Had a tech (jon) come out-sent out by our home warranty co. Said he would contact our home warranty on his repair recommendation. I contacted my Warantee dept 1 week, then 2 weeks later. The home warranty Co still had no info from him. And after numerous calls to him with out being able to reach him they sent a different company out. Based on my experience, this guy is a textbook example of a money pit. He was out to service my appliance and left with my appliance in the same status of disrepair TWICE. Before I found Matt, with Earth Appliance, I had a tech from the big local chain diagnose that our dryer wasn't working because the "main control board" no longer worked and needed to be replaced. I was told that for parts and labor it would cost $635. I don't remember if that was on top of the $99 for the service call or if the cost of the service call would be deducted from the $635. Either way, it looked like I'd be buying a new dryer. But something seemed a little off. The tech didn't do anything other than press a few buttons to verify what I'd already said - that the control panel would light up, but the wheel and none of the buttons other than the power button would work. Since the repair cost seemed high I got a second opinion. I called Matt, based on his reviews here on Yelp. He came out today and it turns out that the child lock was on, so no repair was necessary. Embarrassingly, I didn't even know there was a child lock, but that may be the best $45 I have ever spent. Sure seems the first tech should have known about the child lock. Anyway, I'm trying to get my money back from the big local chain, and Matt will be my 1st call from now on whenever we need an appliance repaired. Thanks Matt! read more

I was panicked when my washer stopped spinning just a few days before I was slated to leave town. I was so lucky that Matt happened to be able to fit me in the same day! He was very knowledgable and figured out the problem quickly. I trusted his opinion that the washer was worth fixing (it's one of the terrific older ones that actually fills up with water) and he completed the repair quickly. Matt replaced the gasket in my washer. Since then it doesn't drain. I've had to hand-wring laundry in order to place it in dryer. He's been back once and declared that all is well. Not so. I support repairing rather than replacing, but I give up - not wiling to spend another $400 on an older washer and still needing to replace it. My washer was spewing water onto my floor and the water was dripping through my second floor into the lighting fixture in my first floor kitchen. I was freaking out. I called four different companies and left voicemails. I actually got Matt on the first try. He told me he would be there in an hour and he was. His diagnosis fee was the cheapest (and frankly he could have charged me anything as it was an emergency and the last guy I'd talked to said the earliest he could get to me would be in three days). Matt worked quickly and with a smile. An underwire, as in underwire from my bra I'd lost two years ago, had pierced the hose! He showed me and said he could come back the next day with the replacement part. All throughout the next day, he sent text messages with updates on his progress in the other homes where the repairs were larger than expected. We rescheduled for the following day and he arrived when he said he would and apologized. He'd been working past nine the night before fixing a woman's oven (not a euphemism). Matt picked up the phone right away - he was very professional. He said he could come out the next day explaining that he was currently at the beach. He gave me the most reasonable quote ( Earlier I had called 2 others repair places who quoted as much as double his price). Matt was prompt and did a fine job of inspecting the washing machine only to find out - after he did a very thorough diagnostic inspection - that the pipe behind the washer was leaking - not the washing machine itself. He spent a long time on locating the problem - although he was only charging me a flat rate - and was very informative about the age and wear and tear on my stackable unit. He also took extra time to showed me what was worn out on the dryer because it was attached to the washer. Then he took the time to look up the parts online and suggested I order a new part myself to save money. He offered to return and install the recommended part. I will call him when I am ready to upgrade with that new part. I am grateful for his level of service. I highly recommend Matt for all appliance repair.
