The owner Van is sooooo sweet and accommodating. From my first visit and encountering her other clients, she's so timely. I am surprised. I had set an appointment but from past experiences... I'd always end up being taken in far later from my appointment so I came early but was seen on time! Surprise surprise! And I hadn't initially setup the appt for a manicure but she decided to include when a client had to cancel last minute.. during her starting my manicure that client ended up being able to come in anyway and Van came up with a time on the spot and she finished with me minutes before then! I'm amazed because I have never seen nail appointments ever being on time... and I saw it twice on my first visit. She is also so clean and meticulous. I had no idea how much dry skin I've incurred. She kept cleaning even during and after painting my nails. I don't recall my nails ever being cleaned so thoroughly lol. If we piled my dry skin altogether I'd be embarrassed. I had a nail appointment yesterday with Van and she did an amazing job with my gel mani and regular pedi! I needed my nails done in a pinch since I was traveling out of town for my wedding reception and Van was able to fit me in. Since it's still Covid times, an appointment is necessary for any service. The salon itself was clean but this was definitely a no frills zone. There are no TVs or bubbling creek/spa ambience. The decor and massage chairs are a bit outdated and faded but the services are top notch. Because Van currently only takes appointments and is the only nail tech in the salon, she does the pedi first then the mani. She took her time with my mani/pedi, I think also because I was the last appointment of the day. I showed her a pic of what design I wanted and she delivered. Price is pretty good for the Bay Area too: $30 for gel mani and $30 for regular pedi, not including tip. Covid restrictions are still in place (ie: masks and plastic dividers between client and tech). But it didn't affect the services. I'd definitely go to Van again when I need my nails done. I made my appointment at 5:45, but by that time she actually already locked up. I assume I was her last client, but in no way did she rush me at all! She suggested the ombré and tested out a bunch of colors for me until I was happy. I also really appreciate that she took her time and didn't rush the process even though I was her last appointment. However this is not your typical salon, Van and Lucy are great in all the ways that you want and need without all the frills that bigger salons have. I really like Van's work on my nails. She takes the time to do my manipedis and always does great work. Her salon never reeks of chemicals and never gets too loud. I don't end up feeling like some racecar being worked on by a pit crew like at other salons that have chairs lining the walls and where two or more girls work on you at one time so they can crank out customers. Her work is methodical and I never have to worry about sharp tools going way too fast for my comfort. I have been Van's client for years. I love her clean and private salon where you are the only customer. Van spends a lot of time on cleaning the nails and take care of my skin. I love having pedicure the most, since I sit in the massaging chair while Van does her magic with my toes. Van removes cuticles very nicely. I always have baby feet after Van's treatment. Since the salon is small, my husband likes to go their with me. He wouldn't go anywhere else, where more clients are present. My husband and I visited Van recently during the quarantine and COVID-19 situation. We were surprised how seriously she takes the safity of her clients. This was a wonderful relaxing experience, as my feet sat in a whirlpool bath of hot water for a pedicure, and I sat in a really strong massaging chair, this sweet lady, Van, cleaned up my cuticles, massaged my feet and offered me hot tea, she was very kind, friendly and accommodating and was a great example of top notch customer service! Lots of parking outside... a very calm peaceful experience with relaxing music... after using some of the tools that she used on me, she gave me a little bag of them to take home because of course using the highest standards of cleanliness these would not be reused by another person so I thought that was very thoughtful! I've driven by this shopping center thousand of times, but this was the first time that I actually went to this particular nail salon. I only found it through yelp and saw that it had mostly positive reviews. I walked in and notice that there was a lady (Diana?) cutting hair and there were two other nail technicians. I didn't end up seeing Van till I was midway through my manicure as she came to collect the money from the nail technician. The decor was a bit dated, but it didn't deter me from my over all experience. I knew I wasn't at some fancy smancy spa place. The over all setting appeared to be clean and that was fine with me. They had a fair amount of nail polish colors to choose from and most of the bottles weren't half empty like some other places. The person who worked on my nails was Lucy. She was very pleasant and not super chatty. My pedicure took a good hour. She didn't skimp on the scrubbing with the pumice stone and the massage was enjoyably longer than other places. She was quite meticulous with the cuticle cutter, and did a good job. I chose OPI's "Linkin Park After Dark." Silly me, it was midway through my pedicure that I remembered to ask about the price. I didn't see the price posted anywhere, and if they did have it up, I must've missed it. Regular polish pedicure is $20. Regular polish manicure is $10. But if you do a mani/pedi then it is $25 - guess you save a few bucks. But it looks like I didn't get the $5 discount even though I did have a mani/pedi. I wanted a shellac french manicure and she said it would be an extra $20 on top of the regular manicure and french would be an extra $5. My total for a regular polish pedicure and a shellac french manicure was $55. (regular polish pedicure $20 + manicure $10 + shellac $20 + french manicure $5) I found the shellac french manicure to be a bit pricier than other places which I've been to. Usually manicures cost $10-$15 and then shellac would be an extra $10 or so. I understand shellac cost more since they last longer, and yes, french manicures often cost an extra $5. My manicure also took about an hour. Once again she was meticulous with the cuticle which was fine. Since it was shellac it required time to UV cured. I did request not too thick of a white line for my french manicure. The only bummer was on my left thumb, she had painted half of it with a top coat and then had me treat under the UV lamp and then painted the other half of the thumb a few minutes later. So if you look closely at it, you do see a line from where the first polish started and where the second started, but for most people with a non discerning eye, you can't really tell. Over all, Lucy did a pretty good job. I did find the total price of the services $5-10 more than most places nearby. read more

I have been going to Van for years and years now. She is extremely gentle when doing your nails and will not cut you like some other salons do. This last year or so I have been going to her to get a gel manicure and she has greatly improved my nail health. I used to get acrylics all the time and it messed them up pretty bad. My nails don't even chip anymore, even without gel on them! Also she is a pro at facial waxing. I truly only trust her. My manicure lasts so much longer when I get them done here, and I don't see myself going to any other nail salon except this one!! Co Van is a keeper. Foremost: I didn't make an advance appointment. I came in the day before Thanksgiving at 330 and she booked me for 7 that night, when she's supposed to close. I made it on time however another customer got there a little before me distressed because she had to catch a flight out of the country--this causes me to wait 40 minutes. Normally I would be upset...but listening to the story I can't help but adore her even more. Co Van does this often. She'll be in the middle of dinner at home and if a loyal customer calls because her husband has made it home to watch the kids, Co Van will come back out to the shop. She's accommodating and patient. Which also shows in her work. I love my nails. It's simple but Co Van makes it an effort to make the growth look less noticeable. No worries, they have free disposable ones for you! Each time after the appointment, I'll have the filer and pumice stone that she used on me during the pedicure to bring home. What a great idea to maximize the use of resources (and it's proof that she doesn't re-use those supplies on customers!)! The pumice stone really helps keep my feet soft until the next appointment! She told me one of the reasons why she likes owning her own store is that she can control the quality of the service. I like that attitude!
