Broccoli- this dish was recommended to us and it exceeded our expectations nonetheless. Must try this broccoli. Mozzarella sticks- great dish. Really enjoyable combination with the crème fresh and caviar. Meatball sub- the meat is really good but it just filled me up and wasn't as memorable as other dishes. Mac and cheese- good. Delivers well but not memorable. Ice cream sandwich- if you love pistachio then you might love it. I enjoy pistachios but this was just not my favorite. We went to Starlite on a Tuesday to celebrate my friend's birthday. We had reservations at 8:15 PM and arrived about 10 minutes early. They seated us right away in a little corner next to the bar, where we ordered drinks while waiting for our actual table. About 25 minutes later, we were moved to our table. Not a deal breaker, just something to keep in mind if you're on a schedule. The vibe inside is beautiful. Dim, starry lighting, great music, very moody and intimate without feeling stuffy. It definitely feels like a "dress up a little and make a night of it" kind of spot. Our server Maddy was super nice and honestly one of the highlights of the night. She recommended a few drinks and dishes. Food: The wagyu yellowtail tartare looked great but needed more flavor. The Jidori truffled chicken was juicy and flavorful. The wagyu mashed potatoes were creamy and delicious. The bison short ribs were done just right. The honey gochujang carrots were my favorite dish of the night. Drinks: Tarantula Room (mezcal), Starlite Old Fashioned, Starlite Mule, and Commander Strangeways (espresso martini). The cocktails are definitely a strong point here. For dessert we had the honey cake, which was a little dry. They also brought out a funfetti cake with my friend's name on it for her birthday, which was such a sweet touch (also a little dry, but appreciated). One downside: the bathrooms. They look cool, but I saw toilet paper on the floor. When you're paying those prices and making reservations, you expect everything to feel polished. That part took away from the experience a bit. Parking seems very limited, so I'm glad we took an Uber. Overall we had a great time. It's a vibey, beautiful space with strong cocktails and some standout dishes. Menu to me looks the same as previous visit with obvious increase of prices due to inflation etc. Waiters who helped us were great no complaints there. Our overall meal was very good! We started with half a dozen oysters which were delicious. My favorite item of the night. I got the chicken jidori which the sauce was diffeeent from last visit. It was more liquidy and actually I was not a fan of that sauce. The chicken was moist and great. I couldn't eat it because of the sauce tho so had the rest taken to go (excited to eat it later with rice) but forgot to tell the waiter and he poured the sauce over the chicken in the container. He wouldn't have known lol. But that sauce wasn't it for me so can't even eat the chicken now, going to be giving it to my boyfriend which is sad for the price. My cousin got a steak and it was very good even with the sauce! She got were tho so not for me but it was really good when I took a bite. We shared scalloped potatoes and those were soo good. She got a mule and loved it. I got the mocktail milk drink. It was too sweet and milkshake like for me. I wanted something more liquidy. Good but I wouldn't order that again. After many years, I decided to check out Starlite after its long awaited remodel. The starry sky was of course the highlight of the atmosphere. It was intimate and dark. I made reservations ahead of time and couldn't make any reservations for more than 4 ppl. As I sat down, I understood why. There's simply no room. They have an upstairs but I forgot to check it out since it's towards the back as you're headed to the bathrooms. As usual, we over ordered. Whenever I see caviar on anything I have to order! The mozzarella was perfectly crispy with the iconic cheese pull. Caviar was on the side so you can put it on top or in your mozzarella. We also tried the seafood tower which was gargantuan! It notably has shrimp, lobster, mussels, and oysters! For the mains, we had the short rib bison (surprisingly good), seabass (ok), and steak sampler (juicy). I also tried the broccoli, which was tart with lemon aioli. For dessert, I tried all of them, including the birthday dessert. My favorite was the Chocolate Mousse and the Starlite Ice Cream Sandwich. The chocolate mousse had crunchy hazelnut, which made this dessert texturally pleasing. I also enjoyed the sandwich because it had the pistachio crust. The personalized birthday dessert was such a surprise! Although it was super sweet because of the frosting. The mule, based on previous experience, was not as great as I remembered. My husband and I had an incredible experience this weekend! The decor/style in each floor is breathtakingly beautiful. The starry room as you enter, very dark and intimate. We were seated in the second floor, which was a dark oasis. It was just as gorgeous as the first floor. Honestly, I forgot what drinks we ordered haha. Sadly, Starlite has gone way downhill since CHG took over. This visit was a big letdown compared to what it used to be. So don't go in with the expectation that it's the same Starlite! To start with the positives: our waitress was genuinely sweet, the manager stopped by to say hi, and the chef's salad was the highlight of the meal....fresh, well balanced, and the only dish we truly enjoyed. But it's a salad!!! Everything else ranged from just okay to disappointing: -French onion soup - fine, nothing memorable -Salted croissant - dry, though the butter with everything seasoning was good -Twice baked potato - okay -Beet steak decent vegan option, but not great -Wagyu picanha - ordered medium, came out raw and honestly not edible. We felt bad sending it back, so my husband powered through it, but it should never have been served that way -Pickled veggies - inconsistent (half weren't even pickled) and the presentation was ridiculous. The burger was decent, though slightly dry, but the mac and cheese was the best. It was rich, comforting, and surprisingly my favorite dish (and I don't even like mac and cheese). Oh my, Starlite. What a makeover. I've been frequenting this establishment for years, back when I lived in Mission Hills in 2013. They were known for their mules and their matchstick fries. Their entry door and chandelier were (and still are) breathtaking. When they closed, due to the death of the owner, it was so sad. I was grateful to hear that a local restaurant group had picked them up and was going to reopen the business. It took nearly a year for them to do renovations, but let me tell you, it was worth it. I finally got a chance to visit this fall and everything was exquisite. Our server was lovely, the food was amazing, and the interior was next level. We shared the wedge salad, the mac and cheese, and the fish dish, plus a few cocktails. They kept their staple mule and a few other things like their burger and then added to the menu! The birthday dessert was beautiful and we also had to get the viral pistachio ice cream sandwich. But what took my breath away was the interior. Don't miss the outside-upstairs-Jurassic Park looking patio with an entire sparkling hallway at the end of it. Unbelievable! The Starlite burger is still really good but the operations and planning could be improved. We had a reservation for a moms night out at 7:15 but had to wait almost 45 minutes to be seated. They were clearly running very behind. It's also frustrating because there's really no where to wait, so we had to stand on the sidewalk outside. The bar area is first come first serve and they offer the full menu, which is probably a better option than a reservation if you can get lucky to score seats. The main bar room is heavily decorated with rock walls, star light installations on the ceiling, cool marble details, and a beautiful chandelier. There's a semi-open patio with natural light, a lot of rock, and warm ambiance. Connected is a cool cave-like area that doesn't compare to any other restaurants I've seen. There's an intimate and cozy vibe with a gorgeous waterfall that makes it feel like you're somewhere tropical. We only came for the ice cream sandwich, and it didn't disappoint! The cookies are perfectly sweetened, the ice cream is fresh, and the nuts rolled on the outside are perfection. We had our seating outside so we walked by the bar and the pretty seats to a nice outdoor tiki feeling vibe with open flames and palm trees. The service was excellent our server (Justine?) was helpful and gave recommendations. I got the Wagyu Pacanha which was cooked perfectly and tasted excellent. I enjoyed the sauce that it came with. We also had some delicious oysters and the chef's salad which had a great dressing. We ended with the chocolate mousse dessert which may have been my favorite bite of the night. Had an amazing experience visiting Starlite for the first time. Parking even on a Sunday evening was a little rough but we found a spot at the top of the hill on Ibis street... a bit of a tricky walk in the dark in heels. The reservation mentioned that parking is allowed at the nearby collision business while it's closed, but the name of it has changed (it's now called CA Collision San Diego) so I couldn't find it on maps using the name of it provided in the reservation. Upon entering, my partner and I took in all the details in the main bar chandelier room. A friendly host greeted us, acknowledged the special occasion we were celebrating (anniversary) that I noted in our reservation, checked our IDs, and asked us to wait a few moments to be taken to our table. We were lead to the upstairs dining area which is beautiful but unfortunately, the table we were seated at only had space for us to sit across from each other, and the tables were about 6 inches away on both sides from other tables, each with noisy parties of friend groups. I understood seating us there if we were a walk up, or if that was the only available table for two that they had, or if I hadn't put that were celebrating an anniversary in the reservation notes, but there was another cozy open booth that a party of two was seated at right after us, so we were left wondering why we weren't seated there. We kindly asked if there were any other tables available that were more private, and luckily, there was! The staff was very accommodating and seemed eager to fulfill the request. We were lead to another room with a beautiful waterfall. We had a nice cozy corner booth facing the waterfall where we could sit next to each other. It was absolutely gorgeous and magical. We were served a welcome shot and then ordered some cocktails, the steak sampler, French onion soup, and a side of carrots. Everything was absolutely delicious, and the server was so friendly and patient. We got the ice cream sandwich for dessert, and it was so decadent with amazing presentation. It's a really cute place. It's giving a speakeasy vibe. I love the lay out, especially the disco rooms, it's very beautiful. We just walked in and we got seated right away. Food was a bit overpriced but it's okay. They have really good cocktails. They also have a cute dj area in the middle next to the bar. It's a nice place to go for small bites and drinks. read more

I was in complete awe of this restaurant from start to finish! First off, the restaurant is so beautifully designed! And has a bunch of seating which we didn't even realize until we walked past the bathrooms. Even then, we never saw the disco cave, so I'm curious to find out where that seating area is and want to sit there next time for a new experience! We ordered the New Wave for our cocktail drink and it was sooo refreshing. I don't like drinks where you can taste the alcohol, and this completely fits that bill. It was one of the best alcoholic drinks I've had in a while. We ordered a ton of sides to share as our meal, we got the mac and cheese, gochujang carrots, maitake mushrooms and twice baked potatoes. Every single bite of everything had me moaning! Everything was so spot on. I can't imagine anything on their menu not being good. For dessert, we got the ice cream sandwich and they brought it out on a bed of ice which I thought was so clever and smart to keep it from melting! Also, I should mention that the portion sizes here are perfect. Not too huge, but also not too small which is often the case in fancy places like this. The dessert was bigger than I expected and I was not mad about it. We came for my boyfriend's birthday, and when they came out with his free cake, they had written his name on the cake! I've never been to a restaurant so thoughtful. They've really thought of everything to give the best guest experience. If they don't have a Michelin star, they deserve one!! Back to the cake -- it was also really good! Not dry at all, which I feel like can be the case often with birthday cakes. I cannot rave about this restaurant enough! Hands down the best restaurant I've been to in a while. I want to come here every time I visit San Diego! The prices are reasonable, the vibe is amazing, and the service is incredible. read more

Came here last week to celebrate the wife's birthday. First thing I'll say- there's a parking lot a block down so you don't have to stress about finding parking. It would have been helpful if they pointed that out. The decor of this place is phenomenal. You will be blown away by the different rooms they have. We were seated in front of the waterfall which was amazing. If you're really into taking pictures then this place is like heaven for you. On to the good stuff- we ordered the mozzarella sticks with caviar, wagyu tartare, Mac and cheese, broccoli, carrots, burger, and porter house steak. My favorite dishes were the carrots, mozzarella sticks, and steak. The steak could have used more salt but it was cooked to perfection. The carrot was amazing, it was sweet and had a little heat which gave it good balance. The mozzarella sticks with the caviar cream was delicious. I'd get that every time. The burger was good, but I didn't like the bun. The bun was dry and thick, however the fries were perfect. The biggest disappointment was the Mac and cheese. I just didn't like it at all, the noodles were al dente which is not my style. Also, their dessert menu was nothing to rave about. Luckily they offered a free birthday dessert which was birthday confetti cake which was pretty good. Lastly I would add that the service wasn't the best, it took forever for our drinks and food to come out, and it was like a server barely checked on us. But all in all this was a good experience but I probably won't be coming back. read more

Went to Starlite for a girls night and it was outstanding. Firstly, the restaurant itself is stunning and looks like a big piece of art. The service we received went above and beyond and the food... oh my goodness! Food was absolutely amazing. We had filet, mashed potatoes, Mac n cheese, and their wedge salad and it was beyond yum! Will absolutely return on future trips to SD. read more

Obviously ambiance is cool AF. It's a starry night//star wars vibe ish restaurant/bar. Everyone is really nice. People like to come pretty dressed up; but not necessary. Our server Jay was really attentive and kind--super genuine and good energy. Fun drinks--I got the starlite cola mocktail and it was actually so flavorful. Started w/the chef's vegetable salad and I loved it--fresh and herby w/smooth green goddess dressing. Mashed potatoes were good--can't go wrong w/those. Sea bass was a little plain but a little too fishy; re: the fish eggs all over. Steak sampler just below 100 bucks is (maybe) worth it for your first time to try a few cuts out (and I loved the side sauces esp horseradish) but we would just pick a steak of our liking next time. Expensive but we always like to go out and try new things like this. Would come back, not for dinner, but for cocktails, wine, and some of those croissants. And maybe that salad again. read more
