I wish I could give this shop a negative rating but this is the lowest they allow on Google maps. This shop customer service is no existent, they never call you with updates. You must constantly call and push them to get the work done on your car. They had my car for over 3 months the, every time I was promised the car something else came up. Ok once but not four times. This shop is just greedy for money and supplemental insurance money. My original 4k quote went up over 10k to 14.7k !! You ask to speaker to the owner and he always out to lunch or in a meeting. After 2 weeks I finally got him and he promised to overnight parts for the car, never happened took a week. Then they need a forgot to order part same thing was supposed overnight took two weeks. Didn't even make it home from the shop and my collision notification system went off line. Will not be bringing it back to them !! Do your self a favor avoid this shop at all cost !! Someone hit the back of my car, left a big dent and scratches and no note saying who they were. I chose not to go through my insurance and had to pay for it myself. Starnes did a great job repairing it, and it even came out less than the quote. Everyone there was just as nice as they could be, kept me informed on the progress and finished ahead of schedule! Can't say enough about the good experience with them, especially after the bad experience with a hit and run. Hopefully I'll never need them again but if I do I'll go back to them. Casey (the owner) extensively explained the process to me and ensured that I would be in good hands while getting my vehicles repaired. Casey also explained how the shop differs from any other in the area being a non-DRP shop, meaning that they are not just trying to get my car in and out the door as fast as possible with sub-par quality work. They care about every vehicle they repair as if it was their own. At the end of the day the wait to get your car back is solely on the insurance company not wanting to "play ball" with the non "DRP" shop that wants to do quality work. If you want a rushed low quality job then take your car down the street. At a minimum, they are unresponsive, manipulative, and care nothing for their clients. At worst, bait and switch and outright lying to customers are part of their daily protocol to ensure maximum profits are squeezed out of every unfortunate soul that walks through their doors. Upon recommendation from my insurance company, I will be taking the matter up with the North Carolina Attorney General. I have previously used Starnes for repair with extremely positive experiences. Their business model has changed for the worse. A new bumper was all I needed. As straightforward as they come. Starnes turned the repair into a 40 day saga. The first two weeks included no communication or discernible work done on the car. I was forced to babysit every step of the process. Once engaged, Starnes' numbers to the insurance company included inflated estimates of cost ensuring a long negotiation before work commenced. With these red flags, I asked Starnes the cost to take my car away for a second opinion and a number was never provided. Yes- they planned to charge me to get my car back because they knew a second opinion would be so much lower. Instead, Starnes assured me that he agreed in principal with the insurance company on the scope of repair and cost. If anything was found to create a higher cost, they would be in touch. Once a plan/costs had been agreed, parts were ordered. After a week, Starnes claimed to receive a defective bumper, forcing the part to be reordered. Another week later and the work was finally complete, but the repair bill ballooned from 3,500 to 10,400. Upon further inspection, Starnes then agreed to drop the charges to 7,000. The insurance company did offer to pay 5,500 for the repair and Starnes was unwilling to bridge the gap. Keep in mind, this scope of work should cost $2,500. Starnes will claim safety calibrations are necessary before giving a car back. These safety inspections are sent out to a sub contractor and are $3,500! The dealership will do it for $400. Calibration's cost more than the repair? The only way it makes sense is that Starnes has ownership interest in the calibration subcontractor. I discourage anyone from using Starnes. I wouldn't wish on my worst enemy. They would be better to bulldoze the operation and sell the land. It's a pariah in the community. STAY AWAY. read more

I believe this business was great and reputable when it was under the old management/previous owner. The current management (his son, I believe) is nothing but crooks. I had a front end of my jeep that needed to be repaired and I took it in to get an estimate. They took most of my car apart, including the back bumper, the back lights AND the gas cap (nothing was wrong with it), held my car hostage for a MONTH saying they were short staffed and didn't have time, gave me an outrages estimate and charged me a $3900 for the estimate, most of it in storage fees (given it was their fault it wasn't done sooner). Of note, they charge you $75/day for your car just to be parked on their parking lot - so, of course, it benefits them to keep the car in their shop and not work on it for as long as they can. They also charged me for a car wash (?), car disinfection (?), installing "protection" (paper floor mat). The customer service was absolutely ridiculous. They never called when promised to call, it was difficult to get a hold of them and required multiple phone calls a day to get anything accomplished. Our insurance company said that that's what that particular body shop does- hold your car hostage and wreck up outrages storage fees- it was not the first time they saw this auto body shop do it. I will be reporting them to BBB. read more

Back again... This time with my new Aston Martin I got this past August. I had purchased it from a dealer in Devon, Pennsylvania and had it delivered in an enclosed two vehicle trailer to me here in Charlotte. One of the guys of the car carrier, in his amazing logic, thought it a great idea to lay a flat tire from the towing vehicle in the back with two expensive cars, mine being the at the back. Well, the tire slid forward in the trailer hitting the rear underside of my bumper that is painted and sat rubbing against it for who knows how long. NOT HAPPY!!! Long story short, I worked it out between the managing moving company that scheduled these guys and didn't pay for the shipping. NICE!!! So... the first and only place I thought of to take my new car was KC!!! Brought it in Monday AM and got it back Wednesday AM shinny and looking fantastic! The paint was glass... beautiful and exact match to the rest of the car. I probably shouldn't be so attached to a car like a new dad, but... it is what it is. Aston Martin only makes 3700 cars annually for all models and this one especially is custom designed interior, top and accessories. It is all about detail with this car and none was missed by the team. Casey the owner himself got involved. My car door kind of scratched in a gated garage. First I went to a big body shop which has two girls sit at the front desk to get an estimate, then I was told it would cost me over $800 to fix it. It's very annoying because I probably will not use insurance which means I need to pay this out of my pocket. So I went to KC Starnes to get a second opinion as I am a woman who knows nothing about car repair. Carlos, Who is also the manager of the store came out to look at my car and then he told me he wanted to try to put some chemical on and see if he can remove the marks. It was a magic that he took most of the black marks off my car.( before I went there, I already went to Autobell got a car wash and also I tried to use my nails to scratch the marks and I couldn't get anything off!) Carlos told me I just need to go to the dealer to get the same paint and do a little bit touch up. Just like that I saved $800! Having used this auto body shop 3 times now from things small to large I can attest that they are top notch. I never feel good about things I don't know about, ie, auto body work, so it is even more important to find someone in the business that you can trust to shoot you straight and not over charge. This is a family owned operation that has been in business for years and there is a good reason for that. They offer great pricing but more importantly the quality of the work and the expediency of the work is above par. I think what I like most is that they are literally right at a light rail stop so if you are without a car for a few days at least you have the light rail to get you back and forth. That's assuming you live along or nearby the light rail to begin with. read more

I took my Toyota Camry here for a dent in the left quarter panel by the bumper. After getting an estimate, Casey gave me a reasonable rate for the work that was to be done on my car. I ended up taking the car to a few places for estimates and they were the only shop confident enough to repair the panel instead of replace it completely, and everywhere else said I'd need almost twice what they quoted for a repair. I dropped my car off and got it back about a week later. The timing was a little long winded but MY GOSH it was worth it. The work they did on my car was impeccable, and they made it look factory new. The paint looks fantastic, and the dent was completely repaired, and bumper was repainted to look new. There was even an issue with some of the trunk lining that they ended up fixing for me just because they could. Casey and his staff were extremely kind, despite how much I pestered them for timing and asking them when it will be done. I can't recommend KC Starnes enough! If youre in need of repairs on your car body, they'll get it done, and they'll get it done right. It may take slightly longer, but it's not a big price to pay for excellent quality! read more

I've been using Starnes for about 40 years, and they never disappoint. My 2008 green Camry's bumper got scraped and dislocated in a parking lot mishap. I was concerned that the paint color might not match, as it's unusual shade. Starnes assured me they would match the paint and the repair would be unnoticeable. It took three attempts for them to be satisfied with the color, and they did it! Carlos kept me up to date with scheduling, handled the rental car, and was an advocate for me when the insurance company tried to scrimp on the paint being an exact match. I would not recommend this shop to anyone. I was a repeat customer & my 2nd experience was horrible. I regret returning here. There was no communication (initiated by them the entire time), my vehicle was returned w/ multiple gouges/scratches down to metal that had been touched up, & protective film was not replaced. They charge more for labor than other shops. I was ok with that bc I expected their work to reflect the cost. I was wrong. I called & scheduled a time to stop by to address the damage done while they had it for over 7 weeks. I was met with arguments & disrespect. I have driven the same make of vehicle my entire life & this one is my favorite. I love her. I am meticulous with my care & I hand wash her regularly. I know where every scratch is. When I dropped off, they walked around to circle all the scratches & damage present. I helped point out the scratches so nothing was missed. When I went back to talk about the new scratches, the owner pulled out photos. The new scratches were not circled. But oh "I am human & make mistakes & must have missed this one" & look "this one is in the photo" & pointed to reflections of everything that was around the car & no circle. The point of the circles & taking photos is exactly for this. The owner said he asked his staff if anyone touched up scratches & they all said no. Of course no one is going to fess up. While I was there, he said he would try to buff out the scratches and take care of a scratch that was already there. I don't care about what was there already. The deep scratches that weren't there when I dropped her off was what I had a problem with. Idk how you buff out a deep scratch through all paint layers but whatever. Then he said that even though they didn't do it & their schedule was full he would try to get me in so they could fix it. I held my composure for the 45 minutes I had already been there. Hate to admit it but I was done at that point & was not nice. There's no way they did it while working on the car he argued some more. I said forget it, I'm not bringing her back here. They did something other than buffing, touch up paint again I assume, & it looks far worse than it did before! There is a glob of paint or whatever it is dripping down the side of the car. During the 7+ weeks, there was a complete lack of communication. They said I would be called after everything was taken apart & the damage was assessed but before any work was started. I never received that call. Tuesdays & Thursdays are update days they said. I did not receive a call at all. They told me 4 weeks was average for most repairs. I understand that parts take a while to receive & they are busy, so I was extremely patient. I finally called after 5 weeks & no word. The parts are in we are painting. I called back a week later. We are done with painting but waiting on a part. Next time I called they weren't done painting. Said they were waiting on the calibration guy to come in. I called a week later & they were "just about to call me". They ordered (or maybe just received) the wrong badge letters & had to wait on the correct ones to arrive. I am upset that I trusted these guys. I am willing to overlook imperfections in the paint (which there are several) because nothing is perfect. Willing to be patient & understanding of time. I was okay that the color of the model badge was not replaced with the same. I would be willing to overlook surface scratches. But I am not okay with gouges, even though they were small, that were touched up in the hopes I wouldn't notice. I am not okay with the protective film not being replaced. The only positive thing I can say is that Pam & Lisa from the office were really helpful and nice. If you don't care about your car very much & won't notice things missing or damaged, this is the place for you. If you want your car to be respected & returned to you in the condition you left it in a timely manner & you want communication & honesty, find somewhere else! read more

I'm taking my BMW to Casey for the second time now. There was an extensive amount of damage the first time; almost every panel on my car was damaged. The car looked brand new when he was done. I'm very impressed with the level of professionalism and swift responsiveness from Casey and his staff. I have a dent on the upper part of my front bumper near the emblem. He said if it were his car he would replace the entire bumper. He also explained to me why he would replace it. I've heard horror stories regarding other body shops.
