My friends don't like this place because they said it was like pulling teeth to get the waitress to bring a sample of beer that they had never tried. So I stayed away for a year. We went for lunch and everything was awesome. Sliders--yummy Salmon--amazing flavor and a killer dipping sauce with delicious veggies. I did wish it came with a bed of rice, but oh well. We joined Harvest Host this year and this was the first place we stayed- the beer, food, service all were incredible! We arrived at 1p parked our Toy hauler ( lots of space) want and has lunch ( best burger ever) and the truffle fries were amazing! Want back around 730 for dinner and beers! Man, from top to bottom this place was great! The waiter was super nice and at ease, though perhaps a bit too familiar for some, taking a seat at our table when welcoming us to Starr Brothers and again when running our credit cards. He was also alarmingly honest, reporting back on the bread pudding I was so anxious to try, saying "Er... I just saw the date on it and I for one wouldn't try it. Probably a bit dryyyyyy." The fish tacos though, wow. So, so flavorful, and the portion easily achieved the value of the $11 price tag. The black beans were whole, yet creamy. And the Spanish rice was flawlessly textured with no offensive chunks of vegetable matter. Hubby had a wonderful steak burrito that would've been high-ranking Abq fare had the red chile been more noteworthy. Though an enormous portion for dipping, alas, it was "bland and unsatisfying." And what's a New Mexico burrito that fails to deliver on chile? The Poutine Burqueno was an absolute show-stopper. I don't know what happened the day Howie visited, but our experience of this award-winning take on chile cheese fries was sublime. A rich brown gravy smothered thick, delicious potato spears, and was well complemented by the chopped green chile and cheese. The green onions added a palate-pleasing accent that was unexpected and especially rewarding! The beer didn't fail to live up to the rest of the meal either. We both had the Foggy Monocle oatmeal stout, which was a full-bodied brew (as oatmeal stouts should be but oftentimes aren't) with a mouthful of smooth, velvety flavor. The most telling sign of it's success was the fact that hubby ordered it too. He's a devout IPA man who never understood my taste for the dark, malty brews. That he wanted to order a second one speaks volumes about this particular Starr Brothers recipe. Keep on working for that fifth star, Brothers. All it takes is a little sound dampening in your high ceiling loft-style building. The noise level was almost enough to make us walk right back out the door had we not driven to the BFA north side for an 8pm dinner. Also, just a little more seasoning in that red chile. read more

Well...we have been here several times and always enjoyed our visit and the food...and the beer. Tonight was no different. I had the patty melt and my husband had the Starr Brother burger. Both were flavorful. He had a Red Zeppelin (I'm a wine drinker and had their Chardonnay). Good drinks. The service was friendly although a bit slow because... ....there were 'reserved' signs on 3/4 of the tables on a Saturday night at dinner time! There was a private party that was taking place about an hour after we got there and there was no place to sit. Lucky (?) for us, the server said we could sit at a table with a sign on it since the party wouldn't be starting for another hour. The party began to show up but it didn't look at all like they were going to need all the table space reserved for them. We saw several people walk in, look for a table and walk back out. So I have mix reviews. If this was my first time here, I wouldn't rate it very high. I'd like to offer up some advice to the owners but I'm not sure what that would be. Starr Brothers is a fun and welcoming local microbrewery with good beers and above average brewery food. The brewery itself is quite small - just a few tables plus some bar seating. When the weather's nice, they also have the outdoor patio open, so that expands the capacity. But even then, it probably doesn't get too rowdy, which I think is a draw over louder sports bars and the like. When it comes to drink, they have a nice assortment of beers brewed on site: IPAs, ales, porters, sours, and more. We both enjoyed the ones we tried. For grub, expect your typical bar food: burgers, fries, poutine, and other fried items. But they also have some fresher fare, including salads and soups. And there are some New Mexican twists, such as green chilies on the burger, a burrito option, and green chili stew. All the food we tried was tasty and better than your typical pub or brewery food. One and a half years after our first date, we got reacquainted with Starr Brothers last night, it was a pretty risqué romp, and, unfortunately, most of the evening wasn't the hookup I was hoping for. Because I had high hopes; this is one of so many breweries around this barley-obsessed town that I really cheer for. Coming out of the gate in 2016 with some expectedly uneven pours and decent bar bites, I was sure they'd innovate, improve and compete. Now, not so much. Does this sound comprehensive? We split plates of green chile chicken hush puppies, the poutine Burqueño, "atomic" wangs and a ceasar salad. We also grabbed a flight of dark pours and separately ordered pints of cherry wheat and pumpkin ale. So yeah, we really wanted this date to win. It didn't. Some standouts: delightful biscochito black, understated and undersweetened cherry wheat, quality porter. Great service, super attentive. My daughter gave the mac 'n cheese five solid stars. The rest of the food felt like it needed to be taken to another level. I figured the poutine would've morphed into more of a poutine over the years -- nope. Yes, you can make a ceasar salad by chopping up some romaine, dribbling it with dressing and sprinkling some parmesan and croutons on the top. I mean, you can do that. Or you can try a little harder. I really hope this place tries a lot harder, because this city is pretty swamped in beer, and the competition's fierce. read more

I stopped in tonight for some food and drink. The restaurant was very busy and it took a very long time to get our table bussed and cleaned from the previous guests. Once this happened 20 minutes into the visit, our waitress finally took our drink order. It took close to 40 minutes for our drinks to be delivered. I ordered the Buffalo chicken sandwich and it tasted like they took a frozen chicken patty and heated it up in the microwave. It looked nothing like the picture and it was cold and mushy. The side of truffle fries that we ordered had good flavor but they were cool to the touch. I understand being short staffed but my hope is that things are not normally like this. On a positive note, the two beers that I had were pretty good. I hope this was just an isolated incident but we will see.... I would give it another chance I hope! read more

So completely disappointed with my experience at Starr Brothers. The customer service was some of the worst I've ever seen. My friends and I decided to go to Starr Brothers to watch the New Mexico United soccer game since it was advertised and they are the official sponsor. We were so excited to be with others fans to watch the game and celebrate our new favorite team. Once the game was put on, we realized that they weren't changing the TVs near us so we wouldn't be able to see the game from where we were sitting. When we asked the staff about this they essentially said "sorry. Can't change it. Too bad". We were sitting there for 1.5 hours before the game, some had gear on, and were obviously there to watch the game. It was mind boggling that our waiter, or any of the other staff that came by did not think it was worth mentioning that we wouldn't be able to see the game from our seats whatsoever. They later told us that we should have sat somewhere else and that it wasn't their fault. The problem is that nobody ever mentioned we should have picked a different seat until the game was already on and our table had spent over $200 in food and drinks. Dear Starr Brothers: Please do not advertise that you will be showing a game if you will not be able to accommodate all of your customers. And please make sure that you are letting people know if they aren't in the "correct section" to view a game during the almost 2 hours they have spent there. Thank you. read more

We've been back twice since my last review so I thought I should update. I really like nachos and after getting the assurance from the waiter that the cheese would have more substance than on our previous attempt, I ordered them. I ordered the Red Zeppelin to go with. The nachos were much better and the red ale is excellent. The next visit we unfortunately were there when they were having a fundraiser for a local school and the place was packed. The food was pretty much a disaster, our appetizer never came. Our friend's food came when the rest of us were already finished. Pretty much everyone's order was wrong. The beer was good. I'm sure we'll be back, but it won't be high on our list with all of the competition out there and because we no longer live in the neighborhood. After reading several of the more recent reviews I hope the owners, who we met when they first opened and are quite nice, figure out how to get back to their former standards. read more

In a veritable forest of breweries, tap rooms and distilleries it's sometimes hard to see the outstanding trees for the forest. Star Brothers stands out. I'll admit it my kids goto school up the street and I've always vowed to stop by and try it. Everyday for over a year I drove by it, never stopped. Last month was my first trip and it didn't disappoint. It was a little loud, but the beer was amazing I had the Hazy IPA, a limited release and is was smooth and hoppy (If that's possible). I hope they add it to there already outstanding line up of award winning beers. On the food side, I really enjoyed the assorted street tacos. You can't go wrong on taco Tuesday and a cold beer. I also think this place is a huge Champions League hang out. So soccer fans do know their beers and there are plenty of TVs to catch multiple games. So as you can see I had an Italian beef hoping and praying my dreams would come true. I honestly should have known the moment they didn't ask me if I wanted it dry or deep. The beef was dry not juice. The bread was not a real chicago French bread (it's a thing promise). The giardinera was more pickled then real. Guys FYI you can get giardinera from potbelly which is pretty legit on Amazon. There fixed your problem. Only reason for the two stars is that they have some good beers.
