The beef was tender, and the potatoes had a nice crisp. Topped with perfectly cooked scrambled eggs--comfort food done right. Michelle had the Cheeseburger: She commented that it was tasty and juicy. Nothing fancy, but it hit the spot. The bun was soft and buttery, and the cheese melted just right. Couldn't leave without trying the So' O's (Southern Fried Oreos: Absolutely indulgent! Crispy outside, gooey inside, and dusted with powdered sugar. A fun and nostalgic dessert that's worth throwing all of l the calories away for. DO NOT GO HERE. I came for Father's Day, and the experience was disappointing from the moment we sat down. Water was dripping on us from the AC vents due to moisture buildup, which made the environment uncomfortable and unsanitary. The food was equally terrible. The crab cake had a strong fishy odor/taste and appeared undercooked - we had to send it back. The table next to us also sent the crab cake back so that's how you know it was bad. My mom and sister both ordered the State Fare Breakfast, and their meals were no better. The hash browns were raw, and the biscuit was so hard like a rock. Even after they brought replacements, the food was still poorly prepared and barely edible. I've never gone somewhere that has messed up hash browns! My dad and I ordered the birria grilled cheese, and that also did not taste good. This restaurant prioritized massive quantities of food over quality. The large size of foods led the food to not be cooked adequately. This was one of the worst dining experiences I've had. I would not recommend this place to anyone. Fried Green Tomatoes: 5/10 - Unfortunately, I don't think the tomatoes were in season. The flavor just wasn't there, and the lump crab on top really missed the mark. It's a great date spot. I loved the drinks and the service. That's about it. Came for a date night. We got some "mocktails". The Basil Smash was very refreshing, as was the Madame Blueberry. Our server did an awesome job with the service along with the menu as well. I was craving some Chicken Fried Steak so I got that. My date got the Rodeo Burger. The Chicken Fried Steak is pretty big, but that's about it. For 28.50, I could've saved my money and got a better one at Denny's. The food here was delicious and it was picturesque. We stated with some mimosas. The board for all of us to nibble and enjoy till our entrees arrived. Husband and I split the chicken sandwich which was huge and it had the best hash browns on the side. Son got a burger with a fried egg on it with a side of fries. Lots of beautiful delicious food. Decided to stop by this restaurant for Houston Restaurant Week. The menu was limited, and most entrées had an additional $5 charge. We tried the fried green tomatoes, which were delicious and a nice size, as well as the crab cakes (not included on the HRW menu). For our entrées, we went with the shrimp and andouille sausage pasta. Unfortunately, the shrimp was tough and the sausage was overcooked and dry. On the bright side, the margarita flight was great--except for the lavender flavor, which wasn't enjoyable. The service also left much to be desired. Food I had the burger with side salad. Super huge and the bun is super bouncy and soft. It tasted super meaty and seasoned enough. I would compare it to a higher quality burger than fast food and better than other fast casual burgers. They also allowed a side : fries or salad (if i remember correctly)in which i chose a salad. Further more, you could select the type of salad (I remember that since i had trouble deciding haha. Surprisingly they do not have mayo since i asked for some and they didn't have any. It seems like it would be a popular brunch spot as the restaurant has a very bright and modern feel, perfect brunch ambiance if you will. Now the question of the hour, would I come back? Hmmm hard to say. The food was not bad but not spectacular. I ordered the crispy chicken biscuit sandwich and the jalapeno cheddar hush puppies. The seating is comfortable, there's plenty of round booths or tables and beautiful sun coming in through the floor to ceiling windows. Birthday Destination Dined in here for a birthday dinner and the visit went really well. My selection of vittles was plant based burger and with a small adjust a (Vegan) burger, that was prepared really well and topped to my liking. Our server and the manager were not great at all, actually they were amazing. We love coming here for happy hour and enjoying their outdoor seating. The portions are huge here, so be careful on ordering too much! And split things when you can so you have more variety! Happy hour menu: Ribs are a fav and come with 4 meaty single ribs or so. They do have a bit of a spicy sauce so I would ask for it on the side if you can't handle too much spice. Salmon cakes comes with 3 little cakes that do seem to have a lot of breading. The sauce on top and corn relish is perfect for it though. Eat quickly when nice and warm too! Decided to come here for a family member's birthday. We came on Saturday so we made sure to call in for a reservation ahead of time. When I called, I asked if they offered lunch and brunch at the same time as I saw online that they do brunch weekends. The person on the phone told me that they do. When we arrived at the restaurant, I had to wait for the rest of my party to arrive as half your party has to be there in order to be seated. When seated, we were promptly greeted by our server. I don't remember their name, but they were great. They initially only gave us the brunch menu, but I asked for lunch and they told me they actually have a dinner menu instead that we could order off of. Fine with me! They have so many wonderful options. I opted for something that I traditionally don't get which was the pork chop on the dinner menu. I don't think I've ever had a pork chop in a restaurant, but boy did this. Make an excellent impression. The pork chop was huge! It was cooked perfectly, the meat was nice and tender, there was a nice smoky flavor to it, and the creole mustard sauce that they put on top was chefs kiss. I got mine with the mashed potatoes and the brussels sprouts. The mashed potatoes were great, the brussels sprouts were a little too soft for me. I like mine a little more crispy, but they were still good. I was only able to finish half of the pork chop and had to take the rest home, but they made delicious leftovers. We enjoyed the fried green tomatoes 3/5 as an appetizer. The grits with the Cajun butter excellent. And one of the guests also raved about the burger. Even the kid meal is a decent portion and comes with a variety of. Imagine a grilled cheese sandwich, sliced apples, baby carrots, a cookie, and I believe french fries all for $12. What a deal! They also serve it on a cute little lunch I think the only thing that was a bit of a disappointment for somebody in my party is that they ordered a salad with honey mustard but their version of honey mustard literally taste like mustard with a touch of honey. It wasn't too bad in my opinion, but if you're comparing it to what a traditional honey, mustard dressing taste like I understand the disappointment. Overall, we had a really good experience and I would definitely come back, especially for that pork chop! The servings are huge! Bathroom was nice and clean. Sad to say my last time at State Fare in Sugarland.. The quality of food and menu selection has gone down tremendously. I should have know when there wasn't one soul present for happy hour on Thursday and come to think of it now, I wasn't even provided a happy hour menu @ 5:00. I won't be back. The steak looked steamed taste even less desirable I had more mash potatoes for $45 bucks than steak.. also the butter on the steak was ICE BOX COLD and the jalapeño bread sounds good on the menu but it's not. The appetizer street corn avocado.. nasty. They really should have kept the frito pie on the menu for appetizers. Chips, queso, salsa, and guacamole: Nice crunchy thick chips. super fresh tasting quacamole. the salsa has just a touch of heat and good flavor. The queso was above average but was even better when you mixed in some of the salsa. I would say it was a good appetizer. Kids eggs bacon and pancakes: I really like the kids meal concept on the cafeteria trays. All the kids meals have carrots apples, and a cookie. The bacon was large crispy pieces and the pancakes where big and fluffy. was a good meal for kids. State Fare Breakfast: Large breakfast plate that should fill up the biggest appetite. You could probably get away with splitting it with a friend. However there is a stated $3 charge for splitting plates. The giant biscuit was good and the strawberry jam was very nice, I would honestly say this was the best thing on the plate. The sausage patties where large and had a nice crispiness to them. The bacon was large thick cuts with a bit of spice. scrambled eggs were ok. The hashbrowns were great on the ends, they where nicely cooked and crispy. However the middle was way undercooked, it was a big mushy mess. In the end this is a large plate. It was not bad, and its a good amount of food, but the whole time I was like "that's is a $20 breakfast plate". that being said I had a full breakfast worth of food to go. Chicken Fried Steak and eggs: I really wanted to try out the Cathead biscuit and thought a large chicken fried steak would go great with it. I should have read the menu a little better as it states its only a 4oz steak. I was not only disappointed in the size of the steak, but also it was overcooked causing the breading to crumble off the meat, it was also tough. "probably from being cooked so long" and had a few large chunks of gristle. The white gravy had a good flavor, but was very watery and thin. The scrambled eggs where fine, nothing great. The hashbrowns had the same problem as the other plate, crunch on the edge and soggy in the middle. The cathead biscut was good, but honestly I should have just got one as a side and chose a different meal. All in all the steak put a negative spin on the meal. Arnold Palmer Ice Tea. Funny story, it was one of the worst Arnold Palmers I have ever had. But I got about half way through my glass and decided I was just going to switch to an ice tea. However right about that time the server brings me a fresh glass, I did not have the heart to tell her it was bad and just drank my water instead. In summary I think State Fare has some good things going for it. I just think that many people are going to be disappointed in some of the execution of some of the items. The portion sizes are good for the price, however many of the items where average to bellow average in taste. Probably the bacon, sausage, and biscuit being the best things about the meal and those only being slightly above average items. All in all I think the restaurant is fine, but I was not overly wowed by anything I tasted. Its a nice place to catch brunch or breakfast with friends.
