I'm probably one of the last persons to dine at state fare, but I visited their Woodlands location for National Burger Day. I was very happy to find out that they have an all-day, everyday happy hour with food and drinks when sitting at the bar. I ordered the cinnamon smoked old fashion which is smoked in front of you by lighting cinnamon sticks. I also tried the 1/2 dozen oysters and the State Fare Burger which was $7 off regular price, down to $12 during this special day. The burger is cooked to order and I requested medium rare. This deal came with French fries. The burger normally comes with double American cheese but I subbed for cheddar. Oysters - served chilled with charred half lemons, horseradish crema and cocktail sauce. Mine were small to medium sized and tasted pretty fresh. Old fashioned - pretty decent drink, the bourbon is not that great of quality and there is not a lot of smokiness to this drink. Burger - This was a good burger that was machine formed, but it tasted good enough to eat the entire thing. It is worth the price I paid, but I just don't feel it's worth the full price tag. Service was friendly at first when I was one of just a few customers at the time, but when it got busy as I was leaving, it ended up taking a while to pay my bill. I wasn't very pleased with my experience here. We went on a weeknight. When I walked in there was very minimal patrons (maybe 2-3 tables) but it still took at least 10 minutes for anyone to come greet me at the podium a seat us. He was nice when he got there and gave us choice of table/area which was nice. The restaurant is beautiful. But when it came to food and drinks I was let down. I tried a non-alcoholic margarita and it was not good at all. I sent it back after one sip. We then tried the birria grilled cheese, rodeo burger, fries and Brussels sprouts. Everything was mid. The burger had a burnt taste to it. The Brussels were crunchy lacked flavor and the grilled birria was just "ok" also lacked flavor. I don't think I'll need to go again. read more

Food was pretty good but combined with vibe and courtesy of staff, I think the overall experience was perfect which is why it gets 5 stars. Park in the garage attached to the Whole Foods. Always parking spaces available there. Very short walk from there. The Rodeo Melt was pretty good. Don't know why it got the award as I didn't think it was "wow" good. But that's probably why I'm not a judge. I got it cooked medium at our waitress suggestion and it was perfect. Fries came out warm but got cold quickly outside so eat fast. You can get a salad instead. Or even Mac and Cheese but for more $ on that one. The chicken fried steak and eggs was better imho. Hash browns came out nice and crispy on the outside. The cathead biscuit was interesting. Fluffy on the inside and hard on the outside. It's call a cathead apparently because it's the size of a cat's head. Came in right when they opened for lunch on a Friday. Everyone one from the hostess to our waitress and the general manager were so friendly and helpful ! I have been to another location but this one in the woodlands looks so aesthetically pleasing. We arrived on Saturday, Dec 6th during the afternoon. The restaurant was nearly empty, there were a few people at the bar area and maybe 2-3 parties seated at the tables inside, and 1 party seated outside. We chose to sit outside. A waitress walked past us to service the other table of 2 but did not acknowledge us. Even if you are not serving a table, it is okay to speak to guests who have not been serviced and inform them that someone will be with them shortly. We waited for about another 10 mins or so and a gentleman finally approached us. He was kind and took our order. Not sure if they were short staffed or what but there were hardly any customers in the restaurant so customer service was expected to be top notch in my opinion. We chose the breakfast platter with biscuit, bacon and eggs, as well as the Birria Benedict. The bacon was overcooked and texture was leather-like, the biscuit was hard and inedible. The Birria Benedict however was really good! The Birria was flavorful and moist, the cornbread waffle was savory, soft yet crispy! The mimosa flight was also good. Casual dining near the water in the Woodlands. The restaurant is nicely decorated; we opted to dine in the patio. Our experience started with an old fashion prepared table side and a margarita flight. It all tasted wonderful and our server was awesome ! For our main course we ordered the seafood platter and the rodeo melt. The seafood platter was plentiful and fried to perfection. The shoestring fries were delicate and delicious. The Rodeo melt was cooked to my request (medium); it tasted juicy, deliciously packed with cheese and aioli. We completed our evening by sharing a funnel cake which was also perfect. It was "ok." The price tag is reflective of aesthetics & presentation but leaves everything else to be desired. The food had attractive plating, but everything tasted mediocre. - Pancake was enormous, but nothing special. - Gunbo was 80% rice (which was hard & stale) and the stew was extremely salty. - Birria Benedict was dry (could have used more toppings & sauce) and disappointingly bland. Looks nothing like the menu photo, btw. - Jalapeño Hush Puppies was the one thing we ordered that was really yummy. Knocking down a few more points for uncomfortable seating... We made a reservation ahead of time & indicated the number of children and need for high chairs/boosters, but they fell short when we arrived. Our group of 8 (two families with littles) were crammed into sagging loveseats (not actual dining chairs). One of the infants was put into a booster seat (only seating available) with a broken harness. We had to make extra efforts to ensure the children were safe & secure the whole time, and that distracted from the meal. All in all, an unfavorable experience. Will not choose this place again for big groups, and especially not with children in tow. read more

The ambiance and food here was great but the staff was terrible. We arrived a little before shift change and our first bar tender didn't know how to make our drink requests and it was impossible to get the attention of our second bar tender, even though there was no one in the restaurant. She seemed extremely annoyed when we ordered food and ended up charging us for multiple drinks we didn't order. My fiancé brings his coworkers and clients here for lunch all the time and he decided he won't be coming back after this experience as the staff was extremely off putting. read more

I was in the area and decided to try their Fare Deal menu. First off ,the place was very clean..I was greeted and seated promptly. My server Angel was fantastic. The $12 chicken fried steak was huge with plenty of mashed potatoes and green beans. I also had to try the Brussels sprouts. Gordon Ramsey would be proud of them. Came here to celebrate my birthday with a few friends. We were seated at the awkward high top table. So half of our group had to seat on the high chairs. Personally I hate high chairs. Ambiance is absolutely beautiful, modern and spacious. Bathroom is very well taken care of and very clean even though it was Friday night. And once you're seated, they're not that friendly. They act like they have other things to do when there's no one there, and the food is not that great either. Our waiter, Anthony H. was attentive and made sure that he kept checking to make sure our food was to our satisfaction. Our server let us choose where we wanted to sit and we wanted the back room since my grandson is with us. He checked on us and brought our food and drinks all in a timely manner. Very nice! Their biscuit is HUGE (yet again, no surprise there hahaha). He also loved their house made jam and he is not so much a ham person so that says something! SERVICE WAS AWESOME. Our waitress was sweet and understanding after we had some mishaps with ordering the pancakes and avocado toast. I can tell all their servers were trained to the best of their ability and were willing to help anyway for us to enjoy our mealtime together!! ATMOSPHERE WAS SPECTACULAR. Ariana and Kate were our waitresses and I have never received as good of service as I did with them at ANY restaurant- they were incredibly helpful with menu suggestions and were able to help us pick food options to try! They were Incredibly pleasant, people oriented, and fun as well! As for the actual decor and ambience...stunning. I adore the brighter accent colors and BEAUTIFUL windows looking out on the lake, the comfortable seating all around (the chairs are wide and very much plus size/wide hip friendly!) and cleanliness on the Saturday night we went. Food was a definite 10/10 all around. We happened to receive a special menu that was offered that day with a few select $12 main entrees and even cheaper appetizer options! Finally, the attention to detail amongst ALL the staff during that Saturday night was phenomenal. You are able to watch the kitchen staff preform the final quality check through a large wine rack / bar area and for each item we ordered it was made clear they wanted to ensure all garnishings were on and everything was plated wonderfully! At the end of the night we were told by our waitresses that they had a "special suprise" for us and proceeded to bring out a complementary first-timer fried oreo dessert that, as per usual, was DELICIOUS. The Waiter was very knowledgeable on the menu and gave a few recommendations, one I decided to go with. We had the hot honey chicken wings as an appetizer and they were very delicious. I had one because I don't want to ruin my appetite. I had the Korean inspired BBQ skirt steak with kimchi rice. When I tell you this was delicious I literally inhaled it. The steak was perfect just the way I like it and the presentation 10/10. My mom Had the southern fried chicken beast on a bed of sweet potato mash. She rated it a 10/10. On my second happy hour trip I decided to get the Birria & Sharp Cheddar Grilled Cheese with a side of fries. This was a flavor explosion in my mouth. She seemed frustrated that we made a reservation, but there was no table ready. Although not our fault, she gave the impression she was annoyed with us. Little did we know the general manager Kim was also at the desk.... A true delight and master of service recovery! Bright personality and truly cared about us and getting us settled.
