Food was delicious, and service was top notch. This was a first visit since the new chef came on board, and his menu did not disappoint. We started with the crab dip, which came with house made chips and was a table favorite. The white bean hummus dip was also good, the topping on it was so flavorful! I had the boar and bull bolognese, which came with fresh pappardelle. It was the perfect pasta to pair with the rich flavorful bolognese. For dessert we had the not chicken and waffles, and the churros. Both were fun and loved by everyone. The thought and care that has gone into this new menu is evident in every bite. We were heading north on Grogans Mill when the marathon lane closures and traffic made us take a detour, even at 1:30 pm. This place was close by so we decided to stop by. They were not busy at all and we got a seat on the patio next to the water. Lots of folks fishing and some even caught fish. The menu is very limited here. Just a handful of burgers, salads and bowls to select from. The house smash burger was ok. I liked the fries more than the burger. I asked our waiter if the charred steak mushroom "bow" was a steak because it said flat iron stead. He said yes and I said medium rare then. Well it's not steak in the traditional sense and it's not "bow". I thought it was bow like a bow tie. But now I think it's just a typo. The cubed Steak was well done. Not medium rare. And honestly I didn't see a single mushroom in my dish. Cake jar is lemon flavor. It was ok. Nothing special though. All in all I'd just go for the atmosphere. While looking for a dinner location for his birthday, my brother stumbled upon this location. He saw their Instagram page and there were a few items that he wanted to try including the oysters. Upon arriving, we quickly found out that what was displayed on their Instagram and website is inaccurate. I have a question for the marketing manager of this establishment, is there a reason the website and social media pages have not been updated? If your menu has changed, why not update it immediately so that customers are not expecting certain items and then realize it is no longer on the menu...it really is false advertisement.... The restaurant is located next to The Woodlands Resort and the golf course. Upon entering it's very nice, spacious and inviting. There were only a few guest eating when we arrived. Our party of 6 ordered a few appetizers including Smoked Wings and Jalapeno Bacon Mac, both were good. Our main items included the Woodlands Chicken Pull which was skimpy and flavorless. The Boar and Bull pasta which was mushy, and definitely not worth $28. The Crawfish Cakes which were overall mediocre, and left you wanting more. Texas Smash was the only decent main dish that we tried. The presentation of the food was top tier, however, the food quality and taste was subpar. Shaylee was our waitress for the evening, she was very knowledgeable and attentive. She also brought out a complimentary cheesecake for my brother's birthday. The cheesecake was the only thing he enjoyed. We walked away spending well over $250, yet feeling unfulfilled....Food needs an upgrade & Marketing Manager should revise their socials and website to ensure they align and accurately reflect their current menu. read more

Unfortunately this place missed the mark for me. The service was painstakingly slow and it was only 3 tables or so there. The food was ok but nothing was memorable. Ordered appetizers and a wine to come with the entrees. Everything came at one time and the wine came like 20 minutes after. Saw my waiter three times, once to take order, (took 10 minutes for that) once to bring my food, and once for my check. I really wanted to love this place. The outdoor area has great views and the interior is clean and stylish. Happy hour was the letdown. We came for the chargrilled oysters. We ordered wings that tasted frozen, and the oysters were more oven roasted than chargrilled, without that smoky, fully cooked char. Prices did not feel like a deal for happy hour and both items were a flop. The smash burger was mostly bread with very little flavor. I had to cut the burger in half and stack it like a double just to taste something other than bread. Even the ranch tasted like it came from a bottle rather than being house made. Chilis has better ranch. I also ordered a Moscow mule. Our server said the bartender was not sure if it would be too sweet, which did not inspire confidence that they knew how to make a basic Moscow mule. The space is cool, but it was completely empty, and our server seemed bothered to be there even with only one table. With a better menu, better flavors, consistent cocktails, and friendlier service, this spot could be great. read more

I give this place a 3.5/5! It's part of The Woodlands Resort, which is beautiful by the way. You can sit either inside or outside (with a beautiful view of a golf course and lake). It wasn't super crowded when I went around 7pm and was able to get seated immediately. My waitress was Nicole and she was fantastic! I started off with the lady bug mocktail ($12), which was absolutely delicious. It had fresh blackberries in it! The spicy chicken sandwich ($16) was very tasty. Not super spicy in my opinion, but tasted great nonetheless. The Texas toast it came on was super buttery and delicious. I love a skinny French fry and these were perfectly cooked. If you like ranch, theres is absolutely delicious. I was stuffed by the end of my meal, but was tempted by the dessert menu. The Nutella bread pudding ($10) sounded so yummy, so I took one to go back to my room. I wasn't the biggest fan of the taste of it. The Nutella is only in the center, but would be much better if it was all over. I wish they didn't top it with whole hazelnuts. I did enjoy the cream it was topped with. Based off the amount of good reviews, we gave this place a try recently. While there are plenty of good reviews, I tend to agree with the overall sentiment of the not so good reviews. We left underwhelmed and laughing at our servers final "parting gift". I agree with most, walking in we were impressed with the modern, yet open feel of the eating area. There were good views of the golf course and a nice outdoor area that looks like it would be nice when the fireplace is on. After we sat down someone came over and gave us silverware and a menu. Didn't look up to say hi or introduce herself. Hmm. Then came back with flat water and again, didn't say anything and walked away. Then another server came over and gave us a second set of silverware. Oh well. We started off with a few happy hour bites, the chargrilled oysters and meatballs. Both came out really quick. Though it was obvious after the first oyster they had been sitting for a while. The were barely room temperature so the cheese had hardened. Each oyster picked up like grabbing sausage on day old pizza. Just one big, cold, coagulated piece. Flavors might have been ok if it was hot. The habanero mignonette was so spicy I choked on it initially. This stuff could kill a small dog, I'm surprised this is being served. The meatballs were described with a "bourbon glaze, Serrano aioli and green onions." They came out in a little bowl half filled with some type of bitter liquid. Fairly odd taste/presentation and the meat was painfully overcooked. My main was the blackened redfish. Came with "jalapeño cheddar grits and pickled okra salad". The "grits" had more of a texture of creamed corn that had been sitting for a while and developed a gelatinous texture with way too much jalapeño overpowering any other flavor. Salad was an afterthought. The fish itself was pretty good and cooked well. Though they left the skin on and presented it skin side up. Which is fine if the skin was crispy. Instead it was just soggy fish skin that I put to the side. We noticed that there were only a few seats taken at the bar. Though it seemed no one was getting service and we all had to flag down people to get help ordering. We heard other people having to explain how to make their drinks properly. Definitely got the sense that the 2 bartenders didn't communicate well, nor did they check on any of the customers. Wife had the chicken wings. Again not hot and still had hair and fried chicken giblets on them. Wife ordered a hot coffee dessert drink and the seasonal fruit cobbler crisp. Again, the drink took a while and the bartender eventually apologized that they were figuring out the coffee to put in the drink. Ultimately, while the flavor was good, it was barely warm after waiting 10 + minutes. Cobbler had good flavor though it was mostly a tin of baked apples and dough. More of a cake. There wasn't anything that resembled "crisp" or "cobbler" about it. Unfortunately none of the dishes seemed very composed. Most had strange presentations with overcooked, yet somehow room temperature items. The sauces were weird/mostly inedible, and the items we were served didn't really match what was described on the menu. After I asked for the check I was asked if wanted any more water? I had ordered sparkling water in the beginning and finished it fairly quickly while it sat empty the whole meal. Apparently I had ordered a large bottle of pallegrino. I was never informed I ordered a bottle, it was never used to fill up my glass during the meal, nor was it given to me to fill my glass myself. By this point I was disappointed in the food/service and just wanted to leave. She didn't have a cap to put on the top so she put a quark in it for me to take home. After putting it in the backseat of my car, while backing up, the pressure had built and exploded the bottle of water all over my backseat. At this point all I could do is laugh about the whole experience. Thankfully it was just water. From the bar, we could see plenty of wait staff and hostesses running around. Perhaps the service would have been better in the main area. Unfortunately it was clear the 2 bartenders were out of their element. A couple times we had servers bring us food that was for someone else. While they seemed to be staffed properly, no one seemed to communicate. And the food/preparation had us wondering if the chef called in sick and they were covering for them. Like a yacht chef had been fired and the deckhand with "some experience" was stepping in. We went in hopeful to find a new local spot but there were too many misses to warrant a return trip. read more

We had our Valentine's day dinner at Back Table and it was a very pleasant experience. We were greeted with a very friendly staff member and asked if we'd like to stay by the window and yes we did! We were served by Victor and he was wonderful! He was very attentive and also gave us dessert recommendations when we were confused. There was live music playing which made the ambience great! They also had a separate Valentine's day menu which we didn't use but was quite decent. Our food was also quite flavorful and the star of the dinner was our cheese and chicken dip. We absolutely loved our lunch at Back Table kitchen and bar. We started with the fried green tomatoes and an order of the southern Fritto Misto everything was outstanding. Two in our party ordered salads: I had the local tomatoes and burrata and my aunt had the wedge salad. They were both delicious, and we just kind of shared between the two of us. I honestly can't decide which one I would pick to order again because both were perfect. By far thing on this menu is the grilled salmon with a hot honey glaze cilantro pesto and corn succotash. I'm not from Houston so I don't really know how you guys deal with this heat, but I could never eat heavy food as hot as it is in Houston. Baked lobster Mac? Cabernet braised short rib? Pork belly? No I can't do any of that. Fortunately, there are lots of lighter options from the chicken tortilla soup, to any of their four wonderful salads, to the nice selection of shareables. When we were in here it was admittedly an off time but we were some of the only customers in here. Not only was it quiet enough for us to hear each other, but it was easy to hear our lovely server. I especially love it when servers are kind to children, showing them how they can expect to be treated when they go to restaurants as an adult. How can we ask kids to be good at restaurants if we don't treat them like customers? Our server at Back Table got it perfectly right friendly and helpful to my kids and it really helped us enjoy our lunch. With so much of my family living in the Houston area and being here for work a lot I imagine I'll be back to back table and I look forward to it. Maybe it will be winter and I can try the cowboy ribeye, steak frites, pork chop, or something else of the heavy variety. In any case I do intend to come back, whatever the season. read more

The management compted the meals for 5, but avoid the shrimp and grits. The grits were deep fried into what can only be described as a hockey puck type item unrecognizable as grits and inedible. The shrimp would get a stand alone rating of three, maybe. The most annoy thing was that we had to go get our waiter for anything. Even then, the wait was maddening. We were able to access the menu online and most of the items were available. The smoked pork sandwich was divine. Big chunks of meat, lightly sauced, this rates up there with my favorite pig sandwiches of all time. The gumbo was great and rich. Tucked away, deep inside the grounds of The Woodlands Resort is this lovely chill restaurant and bar that used to be my favorite high-end steakhouse in town. If I'm honest, I'm sad that we lost Robards, which was stunning, gorgeous, very upscale, and seriously made the very best ribeye in The Woodlands. But I digress... This new identity is not as "special." But it's tastefully relaxed, marrying industrial concrete floors and steel beams with exposed brick walls and plenty of stone in the well-designed outdoor area. No need for a dinner jacket or red-bottomed high heels here, which may the point? The food was good, but some menu descriptions were misleading, which was a miss. For example, we ordered the Yucatán Shrimp Cocktail and fully expected fresh and zippy, with big shrimp. What we got were small-medium sized shrimp drowning in a sauce that was more sweet than smoky. It definitely lacked the acid I was hoping for. The deviled eggs were fantastic! And while the pimiento cheese was delicious, the accompanying ham was way too salty. Only one in our group of six could eat it. Entrees fared better... the burgers were generous, the ribeye was enjoyed, and the beer chicken was juicy. The shrimp poboy was described as average. And another menu miss: The Signature Chocolate Cake... it's not actually a chocolate cake! It's more like a mousse made with chocolate and coconut, and the person who ordered it detests coconut, which was not mentioned in the description of the chocolate cake. Service was excellent. At first were surprised that the restaurant wasn't more crowded on a Saturday night, but after the meal, it made sense. With so many options in The Woodlands, the misses were enough to question a return visit, which is too bad, because the location and views are outstanding. read more

It's a relatively new restaurant having opened a little over a year ago. Its taken a little bit for it to find its groove but I confidently say it's now putting out some of the best food in the woodlands. Have had several good meals here but last nights was particularly good. Started off with BBQ fried oysters which I didn't happen to get a picture of because they were so delicious we forgot to stop and take one. For entrees I had the prime ribeye with asparagus, jumbo lump crab and hollandaise and my friend had the pork belly. I really enjoyed my steak, it was definitely one of the better ones I've had recently. Judging by my friends completely empty plate, I'd say he enjoyed the pork belly. They've got a great cocktail and beer list to compliment the good food. Service here has definitely improved. My fiancee and I had a tough week and we always like to try new places to see what new cocktails and menu items we can find. She recommended Back Table Kitchen & Bar due to great reviews, good menu items and close proximity to the house and not to mention the beautiful golf course and surrounding woodlands area. To our surprise (even after making a reservation), the hostess did not ask if we made a reservation and began to see what she can do about seating us since she assumed we were walk ins. While she went looking for answers, a manager and 2 other staff members approached the hostess stand without saying a word to us or asking if we had been helped. After telling us it would be a 10 minute wait, I was finally able to get in a few words and tell her we had a reservation and we were seated right away. After we were seated, we did not receive service for close to 20 minutes, let alone a pair of silverware and napkins. I understand we did come in at a later time but we made a reservation and looked at the menu beforehand knowing what we wanted to try so that we can be quick and courteous customers at this establishment. It was like playing "Where's Waldo" with our waitress because even after waiting so long to get service, when we finally got our food and drinks, we would've liked to order more but she was nowhere to be found. I am very disappointed in the service we received tonight because it was not up to the famous "The Woodlands Standard" I've heard so much about and I hope that if we ever decide to make a trip back up to Back Table Kitchen & Bar, we will receive better service and be able to recommend this place to friends and family of the future. read more
