Oat milk Gibraltar... after my first sip
    Felix W.

I got an espresso and an oat milk Cortado. Both were good quality. The espresso was smooth, strong and not bitter or burnt. Slightly acidic and distinct layers. 4/5 The Cortana was well balanced, and the oat milk provided good texture. 4/5. Would definitely come back.

Delicious Gibraltar, albeit $5. Luv this tiny place with very urban seating outside. Espresso had pizzazz and well made.

Loved it, great coffee and pastry shop. The people were friendly and quick, we have a few local friends that rave about this place so we had to stop by. Well worth the visit and we'll be back when we make it to Oakland again. Super small store but they have a side window for calling out orders. There are a few nice sidewalk tables and it's close to a couple good restaurants.

Brief Summary: - Coffee is not sour - There are no seats inside, but there are outside benches The cafe is along the side of the road, and if I recall there are not much parking. When we got near the cafe, there was a good line out the door, but this was also due to how small the cafe was. There are no seats inside, so if guests wanted to sit down, there are benches at the front. I also noticed there might be more seating along the narrow alleyway right next to the cafe. The cafe themed artwork on the walls were cute to stare at as I drank my coffee. Speaking of coffee, this one was very good. I ordered the one with honey, and what I liked most about this coffee was that the flavors were bold. The roast didn't have a burnt aftertaste either, so it was a clear sip.

Love states love their coffee and pastries. Hated this location. I usually go to the location in Berkeley and I've always had great experiences there but I recent moved to Oakland and went to this location. Let me tell you.. customer service clearly not important. I haven't been at this location before and it look's completely different from the Berkeley one SO I definitely was a little lost. Their counter where you order didn't look like a counter where u order. The girl working this morning on 6/8 wasn't welcoming at all. Not much of a "what can I get for you" and like I'm not asking you to smile or anything I've been a barista (for many years) and I'm not asking for an insane customer service voice but when you can tell somebody isn't in the mood YOU CAN TELL. She was more of a "okay is that all" I can't even tell you word for word how she talked to me and my boyfriend because I was just too taken back by the sour face. Anyways... great coffee but hopefully you don't feel as icky coming out of this place as I did.

Summary: Excellent lattes made with beans roasted in-house Details: * Espresso is made with medium roast beans, lending to well-balanced latte that's not overly acidic like many places here * Serves Califia Farms oat milk and pastries from Starter Bakery * Among my top 5 for coffee in the Bay now, possibly edging out Telescope, with Sightglass and Linea close behind Accessibility: Small shop that has enough space for a quick in and out to grab coffee, as long as multiple people aren't jamming themselves inside. There's a small parklet out front that's somewhat accessible, as well as seating in the alley beside the shop, which may be too narrow to avoid impeding foot traffic.

Decaf honey latte with oat milk

I love coffee but can't do the caffeine. States has the best decaf honey latte and everyone that works there is super nice :)

Cute little coffee shop near the Temescal area. No indoor seating or bathroom, but! there is a nice alleyway next to the restaurant. Plenty of seating in the alley and outdoor benches. Luckily, homeroom (not their to go one) across the street was nice enough for me to use their restroom. Parking is street parking only. Park along the residential streets but be aware of the time limits (~2hours?).

    Bakes in window.

States Coffee & Bread has taken over this coffee space. there's seating outfront whenever it's permitted to sit there. covfefe: medium roast-free with yelp check-in -semi smooth, somewhat bold taste. much better than starx eats: coffee bread (4) -has a taste of sweetness with a carmelized sugar taste, slightly grainy yummy yummy for my tummy whole loafs of organic breads available. all breads sold here made by a bakery operated by States Coffee.

    Super cool barista!

It's always nice to encounter super friendly baristas, especially on our first visit! I was tempted to get the organic raisin loaf ($9, a bit pricey but justified by the quality ingredients I'm sure) but we stuck with just coffees today. The golden matcha that my husband got tasted like had ginger in it which I didn't see on the menu (we could have asked but I assumed golden matcha = honey matcha)...he really liked it! I got the cappuccino and it was amazing, comparable to some great ones I had in Australia (known for the coffee culture). The surrounding area looks a tad bit rough and the trashcans nearby were overflowing - not in their control but would be so much nicer if the city would clean it up. Wouldn't deter us from coming back though. Definitely will be back and can't wait to try the dark mocha and vanilla latte.

Walked here for coffee one morning. Great location in temescal. We caught a break from the rain and was able to enjoy the seats in front of the shop. It's outdoor seating only. They have a small alley way with tables and chairs. Probably nicer in the spring/summer. Almond croissant was super fluffy and not too sweet. Iced vanilla latte w/ oat milk to keep it original. Barista was super nice and worked efficiently to get the line down.

Okay, going to come clean - slightly biased review since the first coffee was on the house. Even if I wanted a bite, I was there about 30 minutes before closing so all the baked goods were sold out. Guess I'll have to get the "bread" part of the cafe at another time (aka get here early)! The parklet is still here from the previous cafe and considering it is on a big street like 41st, I always felt like this part of the sidewalk is cozy, if you know what I mean. Honey latte is apparently a popular favorite so I asked for this for my complimentary drink. It had a nice microfoam and was subtly sweet. Good, strong (enough) espresso drink. Check check check. Works for me, what else is there more to ask in an espresso drink? Apart from trying out the baked stuff, I will definitely be back next when I am looking for reliable coffee near Kaiser. And when commuting is a thing again, I will likely rely on their other Macarthur BART location for a morning cup of joe.

The bakery itself seems to mainly be a takeout spot, with minimal indoor seating which felt pretty inconvenient given the limited space for customers, however it did seem to serve more of a purpose as a waiting area anyways. The structure of the bakery leaves a bit to be desired as well, as we found the glass display cases as the only form of menu, so being in the front of the line while still deciding what to order caused some unnecessary anxiety. Regardless of those nitpicks, the baked goods themselves were pretty good! Service was instant, and all of the treats looked delicious--it was hard to choose what we wanted! Our favorites were the Thai Tea and Ube Coconut Mochi Donuts. Both had really strong flavors--the Ube in particular was very clear in comparison to most other Ube desserts in my experience. The textures of the mochi donuts were really well done too, with soft exteriors and chewy, glutinous interiors. The same can be said about the Mochi Muffins, though with crunchier parts around the edges. We found the contrast of textures to actually work really well! However, the flavors of the Muffins were lacking a bit--the Red Velvet didn't stand out much, with the frosting tasting a bit too sweet, and while the Five Spice had a really interesting flavor, it was also a bit too sweet, drowning out the more unique citrusy flavor. Overall, however, all four of the goods we had were enjoyable eats, and would definitely return some time to try out other flavors!

I also ended up taking my sister so she could see what vegan food is about. 1. My sister had the breakfast burrito. The breakfast burrito was an absolute texture nightmare, the coconut rice was gross and mushy, the tofu was completely bland, the random spicy curry sauce was unblended & completely overpowered everything. Just really one of the worst burritos I've had in my life. She couldn't get past two bites before throwing it out. I also bit it, and I agree with everything my sister said. 2. I got the tempeh reuben sandwich and it was equally bad with bland soggy fries. It was edible and I finished half of the sandwich with a ton of hot sauce but I threw out the other half. I legitimately could not finish it. I think king oyster mushrooms would be a better substitute for the "bacon". 3. The donuts are AMAZING & deserve to stand alone. The lemon one was absolutely incredible. If I would've only purchased the donuts I would've given Donut farm 5 stars. There's a price range from $3.00, $3.50, $4.00, and $4.50. I think they're reasonable prices for how good they were. The only one that was okay was the chocolate coconut. In conclusion, the food needs a lot of work. I know this is a small business, but please taste the food that comes out . The sandwich was $18 and the burrito was $16. I never complain about the prices from small business owners because I love to support but it was expensive for the quality of food I received. The service was also okay, it felt like everyone was stressed lol, I'm not complaining bc I know we all have our days but this was my first time at Donut Farm and I wish my experience would've been more pleasant so I'd be willing to give it another chance.

Don't get me started on the apple fritters, which are the size of a dinner plate and loaded with soft, spiced apple chunks. It's hard to restrain yourself from ordering one of everything, especially because they really are cheaper by the dozen. Besides, when was the last time you had a bear claw? Or a maple bar? Or a Boston cream doughnut? Further complicating the final order is the incredibly kind owner, always at the counter, who's liable to throw in a free doughnut hole or two to reward such enthusiasm. Though it's impossible to resist the colorful magnetism of the front display, don't gloss over the other half of the shop's name. Soy-based gelato is made in house with rotating seasonal flavors, offered by the scoop or wedged into an outrageous doughnut sandwich assembly. I can only speak for the eggnog flavor which is of course long gone at this point, but I truly hope it makes an early come back. The flawlessly smooth, creamy texture is better than almost all prepacked options scooped out of a carton, and possibly one of the best in the bay. It may get overshadowed by the deep fried delights, but you won't regret topping off your treats with an extra frozen spoonful... Well, unless you've already eaten your weight in cinnamon twists. The pickles had a nice crunch, and the "meaty" parts were savory goodness. Would def get again. The summer rolls come 2 per order; using a bit of lettuce of separate them was a nice touch. Slightly preferred the savory "fish sauce" especially after I soaked the jalapeños in it. The peanut sauce was a little sweet for me so prolly would have enjoyed more with some chili sauce. The shredded pork was a fun, slightly bouncy texture. Also bought a lemongrass beef banh mi but didn't have room, so looking forward ti lunch tomorrow.
