My chai tea was nice but not as sweet as I normally go for, but the food was soooo good! We had the cinnamon roll (which i think is not always on the menu) and it was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside and had a hint of orange. Would recommend! We were smart to get there a half hour early putting us second in line for no reservations. Although we weren't able to snag an inside seat we were accommodated outside in the misty patio area. They promptly opened the umbrella for us along with providing thick blankets to place over our laps. Or server Ronnie was the best! He was able to direct our taste buds for drinks and menu choices which I always love because I'm an indecisive Aries. I opted for a coffee drink that had orange in it which was surprisingly good. Their speciality coffee drinks seem to change with the seasons so come often if you find something you like. I also had the avocado toast that was sprinkled with seaweed. My girlfriends had the potato pancakes and the traditional breakfast all very tasty. Came here on a Saturday for lunch with a party of 4 to celebrate my friend's bachelorette. We waited about 20-30 minutes for a table, and the seating was a bit tight. The menu has a nice mix of Hispanic- and Asian-inspired dishes, but it's definitely pricey--even the avocado toast was $22, but that's expected in Carmel. Service was not the best, we couldn't get water refills. After asking our server (2x). Had to ask a random employee for our check. We took the remainder to go after only having a few bites and let me tell you, we had some the Next day and it was still Great, even maintaining a slight crisp in the bun. We are visiting Carmel for the weekend and decided to check this place out for dinner (couldn't get a reservation for brunch). It is a cute spot nestled in between buildings and has both patio and inside seating. We brought our pup and took patio seating. It was cold BUT they provided blankets and heaters! We got the fruited sour and I got the Porto Branco. The drinks were great. Sour was great and PB was perfect. We had the sourdough bread and butter to share as well as the farmers salad with avocado. The vinaigrette was fantastic, the bread was soft inside and crispy outside with the perfect bread to butter ratio (we had extra butter left over). My husband got the lobster roll which was good (not the best) but the brioche roll was great and very filled. I got the King Ora salmon which had complex flavor with miso, pepper and the cabbage was fantastic. For dessert we shared the basque cheesecake which was amazing. Came for a late brunch and everything overall felt underwhelming. The strawberry jam was very watery, and for $27 for the plate, it seem overpriced. Granted this is also one of the cheaper items with more food. The biscuit was delicious, but nothing special about the eggs or bacon in terms of flavor or textures. I wish I could give this place 10 stars! From the plethora of outdoor seating to the cute greenhouse in the center of it all, we can't wait to be back here again. This incredibly dog friendly restaurant had the best customer service we have received from a restaurant in Carmel in quite some time. We had originally planned to be by for breakfast, but opted for a quick coffee and pastry instead. This allowed us to enjoy brunch. On a Sunday morning they were packed, but we came towards the end of the breakfast rush and were seated immediately with our dog in tow. She ended up being the star of the show - more on that later. The hostess Maddie, was welcoming and efficient with all of the busyness around. We also met another woman and aren't sure if it was the owner or the manager, but she and our dog Stella became the greatest of friends. Every time she would walk by she would say hi. There were other dogs on the patio and they were all well behaved. The menu consisted of breakfast and brunch options, and even a small dog menu! We opted to share the breakfast plate with some extra eggs and fresh OJ. The eggs came scrambled with chives and were fluffy and not overcooked - they were perfection. The three slices of bacon were plentiful, and the star for me was the perfectly homemade biscuit and jam. We haven't been to Carmel in quite some time because it has become increasingly popular and at times difficult to walk around. This experience ignited something in us and we can't wait to be back. Stationary in Carmel was fine, but definitely overhyped for the price. The vanilla latte was genuinely delicious, smooth, not too sweet, and probably the best thing I ordered (easy 4.5/5). Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to our expectations. I ordered the chilaquiles and 90% of the chips were extremely burnt and rock hard (pictured) and the other 10% pretty plain tasting. Honestly the worst chilaquiles I've had, which was a huge bummer. Food-wise, I'd give it a solid 2/5. My friends said their breakfast plate was decent, but we all agreed it wasn't worth the hype or prices. We did split a cinnamon roll and that was the highlight warm, comforting, and memorable. The passion fruit syrup and the chocolate crumble made it look like a little garden with a pond . It was so pretty . The food in here is farm to table so they are very fresh . However, we found a tiny bug moving around on the berry ( too fresh ) ! My family member removed the berry and did not complain. We appreciated that our waiter came over to ask if we needed help . We did not want to bother her cause they were so busy. The place is forever busy so reservation is a must . It is also hard to find parking in downtown Carmel . I would suggest that you come as early as possible for breakfast. Or come before 10:30 am if you like to get a parking spot without driving around . We also ordered their famous Cinnamon roll. Stationary is tucked in an alley way off of San Carlos St. We dined in for breakfast and were told the cinnamon rolls and potato pancakes sell out quickly so of course we ordered one of each. The cinnamon roll was light and not overly sweet. The lemon zest added a nice brightness to it. The potato pancake was crisp and complimented the smoked salmon well. I came here expecting a very nice time, but things quickly took a turn after we received our lattes. We had a simple order, breakfast sandwich for my husband and chilequiles for myself. I also added a side of bacon and a biscuit with jam. When our food arrived I immediately asked them for butter for my biscuit which then never arrived. At some point my husband got up to ask for butter, while he was gone the server came back and asked how our food was, to which I responded can I please have some butter. She then proceeded to ask me the most ridiculous question of "oh did they not bring you any butter?" To which I responded by presenting her with my butter free table. Oh my husband returned. He told me that apparently they charged $1.50 for butter. When the butter finally arrived more than like 10 or 15 minutes later from the original time that I asked for it, my biscuit was inevitably of course cold. So then when the server did finally come with the butter, I actually told her I was like you know what my biscuit is now cold and I don't have any need for the butter so I just want to send both back. To which she offered to heat up the biscuit... I told her that that wasn't necessary that I just wanted to send it back. When our bill came, they charged us both for the biscuit and for the butter. When my husband let the server know she made a mistake and she forgot to remove the biscuit and butter her she then told him that she had to go talk to her manager. At this point, I already thought it was a little bit weird that she had to have a conversation with her manager about something that she need to remove from the bill, but whatever I didn't really think much of it. A couple minutes later, the manager arrives and asks us if we had any issues with the bill. I let her know that they didn't remove the butter or the biscuit after we sent it back. To which she then now had a new argument for me saying that we had been told on the menu that they charge $1.50 for butter... That wasn't the dispute the dispute was that we sent everything back untouched. So why would we be charged for it? She then proceeded to argue with me telling me that I was very rude. And then she rolled her eyes and only spoke to my husband from that point on. Of course, they ended up removing the butter and the biscuit which by the way came out to a total of $7.50 when she returned, she told me to never come back to the restaurant again. I have never in my life been told any such thing. But, worry not this unnecessarily pretentious group of stationaery employees... I shall never return to this establishment again you couldn't pay me to come back and re-experience this extremely underwhelming throw away of a service ever again. read more

Walking into Stationaery, I was excited for the prospect of a meal from a restaurant which seemed to have good reviews. Found in the Michelin Guide, I figured I'd walk away happy with my choice for the evening's dinner. My hopes died in that place. Cute interior, albeit bare. But I was there for the food, not the decor. We ordered the Sourdough bread starter, Bluefin Tuna crudo and a dozen oysters. The starters were satisfactor. In particular, the Bluefin Tuna, an asian inspired dish, was tasty. Nothing elaborate, which I can appreciate, but a good balance of flavor. Our entrees were a different story. My choice for my main was the Halibut. It was touted as Halibut, blistered Shishito, heirloom Tomatoes, Eureka Lemon and basil. What I received was way overcooked halibut, bilstered shishito, slices of tomato, basil leaves with a squeeze of lemon. What I didn't get was creativity, technique or imagination This was not a recipe or dish they develope. It was an uninspired plate of ingredients that did nothing to delight the diner. The bavette steak was the same, although the meat was cooked appropriately. Just a random smattering of items. I joked to my wife that the "chef" must have come from money as they have no busines charging what they charge for mediocre cooking. In conver with our server, we found out their in-laws own a local winery. Mystery solved. I would not recommend this place, especially for the amount of money spent for three people ($530 before gratuity). There are better options to be found in the area. This place is super popular for being one of the best brunch spots in Carmel by the Sea, a super cute beach town in California near Monterey. Though pricey, every element is so intentionally designed. The plates are super aesthetic and the menu changes frequently based on local and seasonal ingredients from Monterey and Santa Clara counties. Honestly, this ate DOWN!! This was such a good meal with gorgeous plating and super fresh ingredients. Chilaquiles - this was like chorizo, queso, and salsa voja attached to broken up tortilla chips, served with a huge sunny side egg, salsa verde, and avocado. This was actually quite delicious - so crunchy yet soft at the same time? What was amazing was the farmer's salad. Normally at some point in eating such ingredients (such as raw green beans and squash), I'd feel as though I'm a rabbit munching through grass. But this salad was the most fresh, most seasonal, most light, most refreshing, most sophisticated, most textured salad I've ever had. We added salami and they gave almost 6 big slices - great value! If I could think of the most farm to table salad I could ever think of, this would be it!! The cider vinaigrette was just the right amount of tangy to sweet. We tried a bite of my friends' cinnamon roll, and they both agreed it was the best cinnamon roll they've ever had!! Not too sweet, just the right amount of crunch on the outside but super soft inside, no heavy frosting but a lighter whipped cream instead. It was a great size and the toast held up pretty well with all the toppings that were on it. This review is based on a take away / to go experience as I did not dine in the restaurant due to no reservations being available. (And we had just eaten at another spot) I did an Internet search for the best Matcha in Monterey/Carmel and I wasn't having much luck until I searched Yelp of course. A lot of people said that Stationæry had the best Matcha, so after a few disappointing Matcha experiences in the area, I decided to try this place out. If you want to dine in here, you definitely need to make a reservation in advance. They do accept walk-ins, but be prepared to wait. They have a little shop outside of the restaurant where you can pick up wine or other items while you wait for your to go order. After inquiring with the hostess, I realized that they do, indeed serve traditional Japanese Matcha. (Rocky's) I knew I was at the right spot! While I waited, I saw that they sold a Rocky whisk and Matcha so I picked those up while I was waiting. The Matcha was a about $9.75, but I don't mind paying that for real Matcha. And yes, it was real Matcha! Well worth the wait for authentic, ceremonial Japanese matcha. I definitely want to come back and dine in when I'm in Carmel again. Everything on my breakfast plate was carefully curated and well executed. We came at 1:30, and they were out of the potato pancakes! I was a bit discouraged, but my husband and I ended up ordering a few other dishes to share and really liking them. Danish pancakes were small but (as someone with a major sweet tooth) to die for--the apple-butter concoction was super tasty and very sweet. Biscuits and jam--biscuit was more like an English tea scone than a Southern buttermilk biscuit (which I wasn't expecting since I had seen a pic of them offering biscuits and gravy back in the day). But that jam was so good! I don't usually use jam, but I kept slathering on more! Steak and eggs were solid; the potatoes in sauce verte were my favorite part of that dish. My husband really enjoyed going back and forth between the sweet and savory dishes, but I thought the sweet ones were the standouts. Service was super nice. We called on the phone to clarify we'd be bringing a dog and stroller, and they made sure to make a note. The outdoor seating in the courtyard was very pretty. There are several seating options, and we chose to eat inside. We chose to build our breakfasts from the side menu, and the chef took it in stride, delivering excellent food, well presented. We had read some great reviews of Stationaery, and felt we had to try it. It was the only restaurant we went to in Carmel. I was a little curious as several restaurants we walked by were busy, but there were only a few patrons at Stationaery when we arrived, and when we left. No surprise as our meal was very average. Let's start with the lobster roll - I want to apologize for the picture as I forgot to take it before I took a bite! No matter, it wasn't at all tasty. The lobster did not taste like it was fresh, but canned - if that's possible. It was not chunky, but more like a thin stringy consistency. I'm East Coast and I compare every roll to those I've had on numerous trips to Maine. This wasn't even close. The pasta dish was interesting; it was a round shaped pasta filled with two types of cheese. There was corn and mushrooms with basil on top. It had a very nice flavor, but the pasta was much too Al dente....I like my pasta more tender, not tough or chewy, as this was. Stationaery disappointed. read more
