    Create Your Own Signature Omelette

I used to live in Anderson and Spartanburg in the early and mid-2000s so I would make the drive to Greenville for a late night dinner. Stax always came to the rescue, and 20 years later it's still amazing. The food was as good as I remember (omelette was still massive and top tier and home fries were perfect) and the service was fantastic. It is an extremely popular restaurant so expect a lengthy wait for breakfast and brunch on the weekends. For fun: The last time I went to Stax before I moved in 2008, it was still open until 4 a.m. on Saturday nights and Stax Peppermill was still open.

Egg white omelet with grilled mushroom, onions, red and green peppers. Grits and biscuit.

The omelet was light and fluffy; the grits were okay, because the were plain, but the biscuit was a little doughy. I ate the bar, the bar maid was very friendly and nice. The place is nice and large, plenty of seats but just too small/low. Overall I give a 7 out of 10.

Had a Girls Night Out at Stax Omega; I know, a bit unconventional, but totally worth it and delicious. The bread covered in olive oil is crunchy on the outside and light and airy on the inside. Our waitress was very friendly and efficient. Together we ordered the meatloaf, 2 chicken madeiras, and a cheeseburger. I really enjoyed my meatloaf with the mashed potatoes and grilled asparagus. Almost as good as mine . Let's not forget their scrumptious desserts. We tried the coconut cream pie, piña colada cake, and key lime pie. I could eat a different dessert each week and not get tired of it. My waistline would not thank me for it . So glad to have SO as a staple in the neighborhood and hope they'll continue to stick around. Happy yelping!

My husband was starving after training BJJ in Greenville, and some folks at his gym recommended Stax, which was close by. This diner reminds me of the Northeast- large menu, dessert case up front, and breakfast all day. Stax has a large parking lot outside, and the restaurant itself is huge. Even if you see a lot of cars out front, it may not necessarily be crowded. We were seated right away, but if you have to wait, you've got a giant fish tank to look at (also not a bad idea with kids). My husband started off with the chicken and dumplings soup, and I loved the "soup" spin on a southern favorite. I've never seen chicken and dumplings in a diner, but I tasted his soup and it was rich and delicious. He was glad he got the smallest size. He also had a gyro and fries, which was fine but not brag-worthy like the soup was. I had a Greek salad, which had delicious dressing and rich feta. Often, the feta + dressing on Greek salads is too salty, but this feta was creamy and not salty at all. I didn't have to chug water while drinking the salad. I do with the onions were smaller and the veggies were chopped up a little more. On the way out, we noticed the restaurant is closed for a week-long summer vacation around the July 4 holiday- just like many family-owned diners. Otherwise, the hours are great with lots of menu options, even a few alcoholic beverages like Sangria to liven up your brunch.

I'm at a loss of words because of how GREAT the food was . Me and my boss are in town for a week for work and our hotel is directly behind this restaurant. We decided to walk over to it and see when it's about and when we walked in, we were greeted by a friendly staff and a dessert cooler full of cakes and other desserts. We receded and it took us a while to figure out what we wanted, but we finally decided I ordered the gyro combo. The size of the dish that had so much food on. It was well worth the $20. For a diner, they did the gyro amazing they can compete with any Greek restaurant anywhere anytime . Once I was done with that, I had to have a slice of cake for dessert so I ordered the peanut butter blast cake, and a slice to go, which was the peanut colada cake. The peanut butter blast slice of cake was amazing. The icing was light and flavorful. It wasn't sugary. It wasn't grainy or sugary. The chocolate cake was moist and absolutely delicious with a nice rich chocolate color to it.

Pancakes are amazing! Eggs are fresh (as advertised). Breakfast potatoes have a great flavor. Turkey sausage wasn't terrible, but I've tasted better.. The service was friendly and efficient, even though they very busy!! Our server checked in often without hovering. Atmosphere-wise, it is a lively diner vibe--busy but welcoming. I can see why it is a local favorite! Whether you are visiting the area or a Greenville native, this place is a must for brunch.

Definitely worth the drive the place is clean and up to date decor. The staff are very friendly and welcoming I would recommend checking in on line is a must it gets busy on Sunday morning ask for misty she is the sweetest and fastest waitress I have ever had . The food is so delicious and if you are looking for NY style Home fries they have it

    Fisherman's Platter

This was formerly one of our favorite restaurants, and we had visited several times. Several weeks ago, we were excited to take our in-laws there when they were in town for a visit. My in-laws chose to split the fisherman's platter that was on the specials menu. It was a little over $30 and was supposed to have fish, six shrimp, and four scallops. When our food arrived, we had difficulty finding the scallops. We eventually figured out that the four scallops were each the size of the miniature marshmallows you would put on top of hot chocolate. The picture attached to this review shows the entire portion of scallops circled. The shrimp and some of the fries had already been removed from the plate. The shrimp were a normal size, and the fish fillet was nice, so we were surprised that all the scallops combined were about the size of one shrimp. In addition, we only received five of the six shrimp that were supposed to be on the platter. Our waitress was excellent (low service rating is for the manager and owner), and we called her over to let her know we were missing a shrimp and that we were not pleased with the miniature scallops. She asked if we wanted to speak to the manager, and we said yes. A couple of minutes later, the on-duty manager, Lori, came over to our table. We explained that we were surprised by the scallop portion, and she abruptly replied that that's the size that came in this week, and there was nothing she could do about it. The look on her face and her tone of voice clearly communicated that the conversation was over from her end. We decided not to push the issue and just let her know that we were also missing a shrimp. She replied that she would have one sent out to us. In retrospect, we should have just sent the whole platter back. About five minutes later, someone appeared at our table with one shrimp in a small bowl, set it down, and walked away. When our waitress came back over, we asked who the manager's manager was, and she replied that the owner was the next step up. We asked for his contact information, and she provided it. Our waitress did not seem at all surprised when we let her know that the manager had been very abrupt and rude. I tried to call the owner directly from the restaurant while we were sitting there, but I got a voicemail and left a message. A couple of days later, I did receive a call from the owner. He acknowledged that he felt the manager did not handle the situation appropriately and said that he would speak to her about it... but then defended her by saying that she might have been having a bad day. He then went into a long explanation about how their price point and the fact that they are not a high-end restaurant limited the food portions they could provide for a given dish. He lectured me on the cost of seafood these days in particular, and how that prevented him from putting a larger portion of scallops on the platter. I let him know that both the experience with the food and the experience with the manager had left me feeling like I did not want to come back to the restaurant again, despite it formerly having been one of our favorites. At no point did he ask us to give the restaurant another chance or ask for our return business. The whole conversation was bewildering and unlike any restaurant manager or owner I have ever spoken with. Based on the poor experience with the manager, and the fact that the owner felt it appropriate to lecture me for several minutes about his high food costs rather than acknowledge that a $30+ dish should have reasonable portions of each item, we definitely will not be visiting Stax Diner again, and I have also shared my experience with my friends and coworkers.
