My wife and I's favorite restaurant we have been to. We started with the Hawaiian poke (tuna) which was some of the best fresh fish we'd ever had. Great flavor from the tuna as well as the marinade. She got the filet mignon and I got the bone-in ribeye. Both cooked to perfection and served on a hot plate which kept that hot, seared taste for every bite. We also got the double truffle potatoes which were phenomenal. So smooth and so good. Additionally, our service was great. I had a work function at Steak 48 last night. We started off with cocktails and hor d'oeuvres on the balcony. That was really nice - the River Oaks center trees were lit up and just made the visuals better. The hor d'oevres were uniquely paired and ABSOLUTELY delicious! Smoked salmon on a mini pancake as well as a mushroom mix on a mini garlic toast. My mouth is watering just thinking about it! We ate dinner in a private room (as we had 10 people) and it worked out perfectly. We could keep conversation while still hearing the music in the main dining area and feeling like we were getting the best of both worlds. Our appetizer was lightly fried mini shrimp with a sort of glaze on it. Impeccable! I JD to resist eating more than one serving because I knew how much food was still on its way. I chose the 8 oz. petite fillet with corn brûlée and mashed potatoes. Wow. The corn brûlée was my favorite part. The consistency was similar to cream of corn dishes with an added magic that the brûlée brought in its entirety. The night was finished with dessert. I chose a Carmel cake that was out of this world. I was lucky enough to try this hot spot out in a larger way than I normally try new restaurants, but I would highly recommend it for anyone looking to treat their palate. read more

This is a good restaurant for special occasions. It's located in the trendy river oaks district and has a very hip vibe. Almost everyone there is dressed up so do go dressed nicely. Food wise, I loved the crispy shrimp appetizer. Everyone had raved about their fresh bread but I thought it was okay. For the entree we ordered filet mignon and shared a side of potatoes au gratin. It was good but not amazing. The steak comes on an extremely hot plate which means the steak cooks further while u are eating it. Also the food is so hot that u have to wait a while to be able to eat it. The hot plate also further removes oils from the meat and sides making the whole plate very greasy. So I personally don't think the extremely hot plate is a good idea. But the absolute best part of the dinner was the dessert. We shared the red velvet bread pudding and it was phenomenal. I wasn't planning on eating dessert but since it was our anniversary it was free so we said why not. It was the best decision of the night. I want to describe how good this bread pudding is but it's hard. It's something to just experience on its own. If it weren't for the bread pudding I would have rated the restaurant 3 stars but because of the dessert I'm giving it 4 stars. read more

I am just new to Yelp but I have been meaning to write this review for a while. My husband and I wanted to try somewhere nice for our 1st wedding anniversary and after hearing great things about Steak 48 we made a reservation. We were seated straight away at a great table upstairs. The manager came over and wished us both a happy anniversary and gave us a card, which we both thought was a very nice touch. Unfortunately, that's where the good service ended! Our server was hands down one of the worst I have ever experienced! I don't know if he was new or perhaps having a bad day, but he definitely gave us the impression he would rather be elsewhere & couldn't have cared less. He didn't explain the menu to us and therefore, we didn't realize how generous the portion sizes were and we ended up over ordering. Our main courses arrived and our plates etc from our starters still hadn't been cleared even although we had been finished at least 10 minutes already. I could understand if the guy was rushed off his feet, but that most definitely wasn't the case. We were in the corner and facing the bar and watched the server constantly talking to his colleague behind the bar. Again, when our dessert arrived, our main courses had yet to be cleared from the table even although we had been finished a while. We also tried to get our servers attention to order more drinks but he was too busy hanging around the bar chatting so we had to ask another server. My husband and I listened to the server at the table beside us explaining the menu and about portion sizes and how many to order etc and we both commented how inattentive ours had been in every way. It was such a special occasion and when spending so much for a nice dinner you expect far better service than what we received and it definitely left us feeling underwhelmed. I would give Steak 48 a solid 3.5 stars. My husband and I have eaten at many of the "big" steakhouses in Houston and Dallas. Steak 48 is good, but not great. The service we got at brunch on Father's Day was attentive, but I noticed that another server was telling other customers things that our server did not mention (such as having a choice of bread). We were seated upstairs in the very back (probably because we had kids with us). I wish we could have sat closer to the kitchen. I also wish I knew about the chef tables. The manager was very accommodating to my picky husband, allowing him to "view" his steaks before ordering. But $48 for 2 martinis was a bit much. I loved the regular Mac and Cheese and I would like to try the seafood Mac and Cheese. My Sea Bass was okay, kinda bland. The kids shared a salmon that had nice flavor. My husband liked his bone in strip. We loved the mushrooms and the Hasselback potatoes were good. The Red Velvet bread pudding was great, and the chocolate cake was solid. I have been waiting to dine here for over a year and finally go the chance to on Saturday. I went with two other couples to celebrate a friends birthday. The restaurant was gorgeous and very romantic. They sat is right in front of a gorgeous fireplace. All three couples shared their appetizers; my date and I started with the calamari (so good) one couple ordered the "fried deviled egg (I just knew I wouldn't like it, but so good) and the third couple ordered the pork belly (very tasty). My date and I shared the bone-in rib eye. The steak was so large. We ate half of the left over steak the next morning for breakfast and there was more than enough to fill us both. The three couples each shared their ordered sides (each side was enough to serve all six of us) Together the sides were as follows: crème brulee corn (to die for), creamed spinach (amazing) creamy mac & cheese (ok) asparagus trees (average) and lastly the baked truffled baked potato (excellent). read more

I saw that this place had its grand opening on my fiancé's birthday. We both love steak so I just had to make a reservation. And I'm so glad I did. The whole experience was perfect. The entire staff was so prepared and pleasant. The sea salt bread was probably the best thing ever - please please give me a recipe for that. Not kidding. When we took the first bite into our filet mignon, we both just looked at each other and melted. The mashed potatoes and creamy Mac n cheese were delicious sides. We ended with the mango sorbet. The experience of eating at Steak 48 will be remembered for one of the best meals I've ever had in my life! The first thing said when the plate is set on the table is: Be careful, this plate is hot! It took everything in me not to scream out loud when I absentmindedly touched the platter where my steak was resting. I ordered the bone-in rib-eye (with truffle butter), which was cooked medium to perfection! My companion was able to request a fish dish (red snapper) that wasn't listed on the menu, which she said was excellent! The sides (enough to share) were delicious: the fries, sautéed spinach, and mushrooms. The calamari and the beet salad were excellent starters. A 2015 cabernet (Justin Paso Robles) accompanied the meal - a perfect choice. Since it was our birthday, we received a complimentary warm vanilla caramel cake, which was pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a follow-up call the day-after to ask about the meal. An extra extension of service. However, I will say that on the day of our dining, the service was somewhat lacking. Our waiter, in other reviews of Steak 48, has been described as exceptional; however, on this day we found him to be overwhelmed (there were four tables that were his responsibility) and somewhat disingenuous. Also, I was somewhat surprised (in a restaurant of this caliber) there was no one(manager, etc.) that came by our table to ask about our experience. I took my wife to Steak 48 for her birthday 8/3/19. Once we enter into the hallway we immediately notice how dark it was and that all along the wall for art they had butcher knifes which gave the feeling of a Halloween 13. Bar service was average to me as well. The dining area is very dark which made it a little difficult to read the menu. Our waiter was average and hard to understand at times. They brought a birthday card to the table to my wife from the staff which was a nice touch, they also gave my wife a personal birthday cake with ice cream at the end of dinner. My wife took me to Steak 48 for my birthday Wednesday. The food, drinks and service we're top notch! I had a lemon drop martini and my wife had a cranberry martini, top shelf alcohol. For appetizer we had the calamari and shrimp, lightly fried with three delicious dipping sauces, the best calamari we've ever had. For entrees, I had the 22 ounce ribeye, cooked to perfection and my wife had the double center cut pork chops, they were so juicy and flavorful. For sides we had sauteed brussel sprouts with bacon and mac 'n cheese, both piping hot and delicious. For dessert, our excellent waiter surprised us with a gelato ice cream topped over caramel cake, it was sooooo good. I don't like the taste of alcohol (I like my drinks weak) and Sean came up with a special drink that he had never made before to suit my needs and make me something fun. It was special and made a great impression! Sean was wonderful and shared his connotation with me so I could take home the recipe. Our waiter was Casey and I have never had someone as attentive. I want to give Steak 48 a five star review, because it is an excellent experience. But, I feel it's a bit overpriced for what you get. The decor is cool. Modern with a wall of meat cleavers which is slightly Texas Chainsaw massacre-esq. The steak plates come from the kitchen at near molten temperature; which is awesome for keeping your steak warm, BUT it tends to continue to cook on your plate. That beautiful profile is gone as soon as your meat touches the mini cooktop they put in front of you. The wine and liquor is insanely overpriced. The mark ups are some of the worst I've seen in Houston. I debated with a manager for a bit about their Pappy prices which is basically what a retail bottle of 20 year old costs for a mere 2oz (I assume) pour; to no avail. The steaks are expensive, but not outside of what you would see at most high end restaurants. The cream corn is out of this world. It has a glazed sugar top liken to a creme brûlée which is great, but ask for a side plate because as soon as it touches the face of the sun that they call your dinner plate it will bubble and become a dinner ruining tongue scorcher. I don't want you to scroll away from my review and take it as a negative. It truly is a fantastic steak place. The best actual steak I've had in Houston. I'm critical merely because I feel like as a top tier restaurant ordering a bottle of decent wine shouldn't feel like extortion. read more
