So I heard so much about steak 48, it is a very nice place! Drinks are great and their crispy shrimp is to die for!! Their bread was good as well. I did not enjoy their ribeye because it was dry and not cook well. I'm a petite filet kinda girl so I can't be the best person to judge their ribeye. I have been waiting to dine here for over a year and finally go the chance to on Saturday. I went with two other couples to celebrate a friends birthday. The restaurant was gorgeous and very romantic. They sat is right in front of a gorgeous fireplace. All three couples shared their appetizers; my date and I started with the calamari (so good) one couple ordered the "fried deviled egg (I just knew I wouldn't like it, but so good) and the third couple ordered the pork belly (very tasty). My date and I shared the bone-in rib eye. The steak was so large. We ate half of the left over steak the next morning for breakfast and there was more than enough to fill us both. The three couples each shared their ordered sides (each side was enough to serve all six of us) Together the sides were as follows: crème brulee corn (to die for), creamed spinach (amazing) creamy mac & cheese (ok) asparagus trees (average) and lastly the baked truffled baked potato (excellent). read more

The experience of eating at Steak 48 will be remembered for one of the best meals I've ever had in my life! The first thing said when the plate is set on the table is: Be careful, this plate is hot! It took everything in me not to scream out loud when I absentmindedly touched the platter where my steak was resting. I ordered the bone-in rib-eye (with truffle butter), which was cooked medium to perfection! My companion was able to request a fish dish (red snapper) that wasn't listed on the menu, which she said was excellent! The sides (enough to share) were delicious: the fries, sautéed spinach, and mushrooms. The calamari and the beet salad were excellent starters. A 2015 cabernet (Justin Paso Robles) accompanied the meal - a perfect choice. Since it was our birthday, we received a complimentary warm vanilla caramel cake, which was pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised to receive a follow-up call the day-after to ask about the meal. An extra extension of service. However, I will say that on the day of our dining, the service was somewhat lacking. Our waiter, in other reviews of Steak 48, has been described as exceptional; however, on this day we found him to be overwhelmed (there were four tables that were his responsibility) and somewhat disingenuous. I took my wife to Steak 48 for her birthday 8/3/19. Once we enter into the hallway we immediately notice how dark it was and that all along the wall for art they had butcher knifes which gave the feeling of a Halloween 13. Bar service was average to me as well. The dining area is very dark which made it a little difficult to read the menu. Our waiter was average and hard to understand at times. They brought a birthday card to the table to my wife from the staff which was a nice touch, they also gave my wife a personal birthday cake with ice cream at the end of dinner. My wife took me to Steak 48 for my birthday Wednesday. The food, drinks and service we're top notch! I had a lemon drop martini and my wife had a cranberry martini, top shelf alcohol. For appetizer we had the calamari and shrimp, lightly fried with three delicious dipping sauces, the best calamari we've ever had. For entrees, I had the 22 ounce ribeye, cooked to perfection and my wife had the double center cut pork chops, they were so juicy and flavorful. For sides we had sauteed brussel sprouts with bacon and mac 'n cheese, both piping hot and delicious. For dessert, our excellent waiter surprised us with a gelato ice cream topped over caramel cake, it was sooooo good. My fiancée and I went for the first time on July 4 and had a wonderful experience. As someone who doesn't eat meat, I enjoyed my meal thoroughly, having the crab and avocado stack to start and then crab cakes for my entree. They were possibly the best crab cakes I've ever had. I have NEVER written a review before, but our service at Steak 48 was impeccable and I have to brag. Started off at the bar, and the bartender Sean was wonderful and attentive. I don't like the taste of alcohol (I like my drinks weak) and Sean came up with a special drink that he had never made before to suit my needs and make me something fun. It was special and made a great impression! Sean was wonderful and shared his connotation with me so I could take home the recipe. Our waiter was Casey and I have never had someone as attentive. Steak 48 has great ambiance. On a Friday night, you can barely get a seat at the bar but it is worth the wait for light bites and hanging with friends. Overall, the food was just OK. It was an average steak, au gratin potatoes, macaroni and cheese. The food didn't wow me at all. The wait staff was comparable to any other major steakhouse in Houston, great service. I want to give Steak 48 a five star review, because it is an excellent experience. But, I feel it's a bit overpriced for what you get. The decor is cool. Modern with a wall of meat cleavers which is slightly Texas Chainsaw massacre-esq. The steak plates come from the kitchen at near molten temperature; which is awesome for keeping your steak warm, BUT it tends to continue to cook on your plate. That beautiful profile is gone as soon as your meat touches the mini cooktop they put in front of you. The wine and liquor is insanely overpriced. The mark ups are some of the worst I've seen in Houston. I debated with a manager for a bit about their Pappy prices which is basically what a retail bottle of 20 year old costs for a mere 2oz (I assume) pour; to no avail. The steaks are expensive, but not outside of what you would see at most high end restaurants. The cream corn is out of this world. It has a glazed sugar top liken to a creme brûlée which is great, but ask for a side plate because as soon as it touches the face of the sun that they call your dinner plate it will bubble and become a dinner ruining tongue scorcher. I don't want you to scroll away from my review and take it as a negative. It truly is a fantastic steak place. The best actual steak I've had in Houston. I'm critical merely because I feel like as a top tier restaurant ordering a bottle of decent wine shouldn't feel like extortion. read more

I made reservations through OpenTable a couple weeks prior to our dinner. The app allowed me to request a seat by the kitchen. I called the restaurant the week of to confirm. I was told that they would do their best to try to accommodate any special request, but that there are no guarantees. We arrived to Steak 48 a few minutes prior to our reservation time and were immediately seated. We were seated in a private booth with a perfect view of the kitchen. Everyone that greeted our table was amazing! We ordered steak, corn creme brûlée, macorni and cheese, and au gratin potatoes. Nothing was short of amazing. I would have to say it was one of the best steaks I've ever had and overall one of my most favorite meals. We also had the crispy shrimp (YUM!) and for dessert we had the caramel cake. I tried steak 48 for the first time this past weekend. We made a reservation about 3 weeks ago and I was looking forward to it the entire time. We were seated by the bar area downstairs which I did not enjoy because we were pressed up against another couple in the bar. I would suggest if you're going on a dinner date or want to be able to have private conversation request to be seated in another area away from the bar. Appetizer: Crispy Shrimp and half a dozen oyster. The crispy shrimp was our waiter's recommendation and it is an absolute must try item! It was so flavorful and a such large serving. This would've been great to share with a group of 4-6 people. Entrees: I ordered the wagyu filet (medium rare.) The outside was maybe a little over seared and the inside was very rare. I didn't care for how rare the filet turned out which is unfortunate. My date ordered the wagyu strip special. He was in heaven with his meal but our waiter did misspeak when he told us the price was $98. When the bill arrived, the strip was $198. My date didn't fuss about it because it made sense since it was a 12 oz strip of wagyu but I was still annoyed that the waiter made such a big error in the price. Sides: Hassel back potatoes and king crab and shrimp mac and cheese. Both of these sides were such large portions. The king crab and shrimp mac and cheese was so delicious and such a large portion-I think you can get away with this as a side for a party of 6. The hassel back potatoes were also delicious especially with the cream cheese on the side but I would like to try something else in place of these next time. Dessert: brioche chocolate chip bread pudding. This is one of my top restaurant desserts. I would highly recommend trying this. We left spending about $600 for 2 people (including our bottle of wine and waiter's $100 error). I enjoyed the food, but next time I would like to try the rack of lamb over the wagyu filet. I'll also seek clarification on any market prices. After having a great meal, we get his audi back from the valet to find a brand new dent with the paint from the other car. Obviously if you are in a Ferrari your car is being carefully parked in the front, but everyone else be careful. These valets are in a hurry on a Saturday night and it's unfortunate that this happened. We will most likely park our car ourselves from now on to avoid this. If I rated Steak 48 on the valet service, I would give them 0 stars but the restaurant itself including the food and ambience was great. read more

I gave this establishment a try as everyone in Houston hypes it up. I only went because of a friends birthday and that reason alone (never had any interest in the restaurant). Upon arrival my boyfriend and I checked in and immediately, I noticed a foul odor. I continued to smell it threw out the whole time we were in the establishment. It was so loud and offensive that for the love of god I prayed that it was perhaps some short of high end cheese. Checked in downstairs and we were eventually seated upstairs, the whole restaurant carried the stench. So that was a major strike . Back over at the check-in booth, my boyfriend and I were the first to arrive of our party of six. We were asked to wait in the lounge area until till atleast two more of our party arrived for us to be seated. We were left standing around not knowing where to go, it's packed and I had to literally ask one of the bus boys where the lounge area was as we were never escorted to the so called "lounge area". As guest of Steak48 which is supposed to be primer Houston fine dining, shouldn't guest be shown where to sit? Once we located the so called "lounge" it was nothing more than the bar area. The area was so packed with no where to sit, we had no choice but to sit on the bench outside in the cold. Now I'm not from Houston, but fine dining is nothing new to me. Most fine dining establishments have actual lounges where their guest are allowed to wait prior to being seated. You know places with couches, chairs.... something! They offer you a glass of water possibly some tea and you relax till your called. Steak48 fails in the hospitality department. After the rest of our party arrived we are given the option to either go upstairs by stairs or the elevator as I'm wearing heels. Upon arrival to the elevator I notice the stench again and it's more pungent than ever! I believe the kitchen was located down that same hall (if I'm correct) and that's where the odor was coming from. I commented on it and the hostess put her head down which I thought was strange. We enter the elevator and I notice a dirty floor with what looked like cake droppings possibly icing. I was honestly disgusted, at this price point they should have a service elevator as well as a elevator for guest! We finally arrive at our table and it was the most uncomfortable seating arrangement ever!! They seated us at a round table, that was pushed up next to a bench style chair. There were 3 regular chairs and the rest was the bench. My bf sat in a regular chair being that he's tall and needed the leg room. I'm tall myself so trying to find somewhere to put my feet in the small little compact area was a challenge. Our party of 6 turned to a party of 7 and seating was just not comfortable. All and all the bf and I were annoyed by the whole thing! We literally had two glasses of wine, ordered the calamari and then we left. The rest of our party did stay but we had had enough. I did however get a glimpse of my friends husbands order as it came to the table prior to our goodbyes. He ordered the lamb, which was listed as market price ($84). I'm sorry but no garnish or anything and you slap a price-tag of $84, you have to be kidding me!!! They didn't even take the time to sprinkle parsley flakes for presentation purposes. Just some meat on a plate there you go. I can't with Steak48! I need more, I expect to be given true 5 star treatment at this price point. You have show consumers why they should come to your establishment and spend money in this manner. Work, earn, our business!! I can find many other establishments to frequent and get better service. Phenomenal food AND thoughtful staff however like a few people mentioned, It was so LOUD. My boyfriend made reservations after so many people suggested this new steak house. We asked to be moved two separate times and after having to scream to talk and getting knocked into we decided to leave. One manager, Chris, came outside to get us as we were getting our car and asked for a second chance. He seated us near the chefs area and our server Roy was amazing. (Ogling the cars in the lot might have been the best part of my night... which was fun, but doesn't bode well for a restaurant review.) I get it: this is the new, hip place. And the steak quality places this solidly in "expensive steakhouse" territory, but they don't make it stand out in Houston. So your real choice is what atmosphere and service you want. Expect the aspirational, insecure money to come here, and the established money to stay at Del Frisco's. Context: a friend's birthday. Three weeks out he got a reservation for ~12 of us. He arranged a special multi-course menu and options for us, so they clearly knew what was up. But we waited for approximately 45 minutes, standing in their narrow entrance way. Instead of getting an apology, or (what I would expect at place like this) a comped drink at the bar while we waited, they continually asked us to move this way and that so their staff could get by us. They didn't seem to realize that the easiest way to get us out of their way would be to... seat us at the table we reserved. (Reading other reviews, it seems that we're not alone and they haven't figured out reservations yet.) This place is LOUD, so 45 min of standing around dodging staff and having yelling conversations felt like work. Fortunately the smaller upstairs where we were seated is a bit more conversation-friendly, though by no means quiet. When finally seated, the service was attentive, but a bit uncoordinated. At one point they cleared a couple appetizer plates until we asked them where our second appetizer was, and then they re-issued the purloined plates and brought out the appetizer. Sides/drinks: -let's jump to the highlight, which was the crispy shrimp in Thai sauce (appetizer). I was ready to order that as my main, too, they were that good. -The Brussels sprouts were also very good -- tender but not mushy, flavorful, perhaps too heavy on the bacon if that's possible. -I sampled someone's chocolate gelato at the end, and it was decadent with an excellent consistency. -I had a Manhattan that was quite good. Stiff and very smokey, just like I like it. But now we get to the steaks: I had the NY strip and sampled a filet mignon. I ordered mine medium rare, but it came out medium in the center, bordering on medium well on the ends. I didn't bother sending it back because it was already late in the evening. My neighbor's filet was truly medium rare and better for it. Both tasted excellent, though, and had mine been done properly, it would have gone from a good to a great steak. For straight-up steaks, I would put Steak 48 in the top 5 steak houses in Houston. But if there are 4 other places where I can get equally good steaks, it means I won't be back for Steak 48's atmosphere and service.
