What a delightful experience. Our server Jake and the support staff were very attentive and proactive despite having a large party of 16 people. The food was spaced and served out accordingly without any mistakes especially having 16 different menu orders. The lights, the music, and decor were spot on as well. Nothing was too bright nor loud. An excellent option for pre-theater dining! Looks tiny on the outside and they have a small bar seating downstairs but the upstairs dining room is deceptively large. Easily the best non-wagyu prime rib I've ever had in nyc. It's cooked so perfectly tender you'd think it was wagyu! We had a group of 3 for lunch so we shared the prime rib for 2 and also had them cut the burger 3 ways to share as well. Highly recommend this place for a business lunch, but I'm looking forward to coming back here for dinner some time as well. read more

Went to Gui Steakhouse on a relatively quiet Sunday evening and had a great dinner. The restaurant is located on the second floor - spacious yet elegant. We started with the Chopped Salad (very good) and the Shrimp Toast (a little small but tasty). It was our mains that really stood out - the Prime Rib and the Galbi steak were both excellent. Flavorful and well prepared. The Truffle Mac n Cheese was a nice side to share as was the Wild Mushrooms. The Tiramisu for dessert provided a nice finish to the meal. To get to the restaurant we had to take the elevator upstairs. Once inside we were lead to a table. The friendly waitress chatted with us. She apparently knew it was for a birthday. She came out with menus with a Happy Birthday printed on the menu and some water. A friend joined us in a few minutes. We all got The experience for 4 which included bread, a salad, two steaks, mash potatoes, and creamed corn. The bread came out and I did a double take because it was sprinkled with tiny pieces of popcorn. It was warm but the star was the creamy butter. The salad for the table amenities next. The dressing was light and refreshing. Then came the steaks, perfect medium rare. It was tender and juicy. The horseradish was creamy but not too spicy. The cream corn was good. There was a crunchy cheese crust on top. The mash potatoes was also good. For dessert we asked for a baked Alaska but they said they no longer have it. So we got black sesame ice cream in a crunchy shell. I also got some persimmon tea. It was ok but it didnt have any persimmon flavor.They even put a candle on the plate. Gui steakhouse is a modern NYC steakhouse by Chef Sungchul Shim. If you've seen Culinary Class Wars, he was one of the white spoon chefs from season 2. The restaurant serves American steakhouse classics with a Korean twist. The $65 3-course menu is a great deal - you get an appetizer, entree and dessert. Highly recommend the crudo and steak frites. We also ordered the crème corn on the side, which paired perfectly with the steak. The interior felt modern and upscale. The only thing that could be improved is the service, in particular the timeliness of our dishes. I ordered an espresso martini at the beginning of the meal and didn't receive it until after the entree. The creme corn, which was ordered as an accompaniment to the steak, also arrived later than the entree and we had to ask the server a couple of times regarding the status. If you're watching a Broadway show at Eugene O'Neill Theatre, this restaurant is the perfect pre-show dinner as it's located only a 5-minute walk from the theatre. read more

Amazing experience from start to finish, I felt like I had a personalized dinner just because I went to dinner with a friend who attended a Guga event here earlier and he was recognized by the hostess. First of all, ambiance is great. There are some contemporary songs being played in the background, but it's not too overpowering that you can't have a conversation over. Decor is great with dim lighting that would be perfect a date night. Of course none of that matters if the food isn't good, but the food here is simply outstanding. I ordered the ribeye and Brussel sprouts, while my friend ordered the prime rib and yu choy tips. We also ordered the kimchi fried rice. The steaks are cooked to perfection at medium rare (though if I were to nitpick it could a slight bit more searing) and served with special sauces. The inhouse steak sauce wasn't bad, but I liked my steak without it. The fried rice, yu choy tips, and Brussel Sprouts were all also fantastic. There were some complimentary dishes of the chef(unexpected) and they were amazing. First was the bread; I don't think it was on the menu currently online? Butter was creamy and at the perfect temperature where it spreads easily on the delectable bread that had like small popcorn bits on top? The Caesar salad was also great with bits of anchovy that added a small, sweet flavor. The salmon crudo(?) was refreshing especially with the sauce. Dessert, we went for the Paris-Jeju. It was fantastic, wasn't overly sweet and had a cookie-like texture. What stood out though was the service; one of the best I have ever experienced. Samantha, our waitress, was very attentive, friendly, and made sure we were taken care of. She was mindful of my friend's allergy to shellfish so she double checked everything we ordered (the fried rice does use shrimp paste) to make sure everything was okay. Then you have all these complimentary dishes mentioned above that the other waiters brought in and any time our water glasses were close to being half-empty, someone came in to generous refill them. At the end, I nearly forgot my credit card, but somehow Samantha knew and she stopped me and my party. So thank you again, Samantha and your extraordinary sixth sense. read more

Enjoyed both Kochi and Mari in the past, so I've been wanting to come to Gui for a while. I finally made it in with an old coworker I hadn't seen in a long time, which already made the night feel special. We brought a 41‑year‑old bottle of Opus One and decided to open it before it got any older. Corkage was $75. We ordered the Gui seafood platter to start, and then we each got a Galbi steak with Choron sauce. For sides, we had the pommes purée and the barley risotto. Most of the seafood platter was very good, but the clams tasted a bit fishy to me. The Galbi was delicious, the pommes purée is a must‑order, and the barley risotto is good if you actually enjoy barley. For dessert, I had the pear sorbet and my friend had the Paris‑Jeju, which actually looked like a bagel. Both desserts were quite good. He liked the Paris‑Jeju so much that he ordered an extra one to go. What brought this down from 5 stars to 4 was the service. At the beginning of the night the service was pretty attentive, but then it became almost nonexistent. I had to flag someone down to have our table cleared and to order dessert. Overall, the meal was very good and I'd come back, especially for the Galbi, sides, and desserts. I just hope the service is more consistent next time. read more

Honestly, this restaurant gets high marks from me. I came during restaurant week and enjoyed everything. The restaurant was not only clean, the staff was attentive and on point. Service was fast and we were constantly checked on. For appetizers, I got the prawns. They were decent, not super flavorful but a decent dish for sure. For my entree, I got the branzino and my friend got the steak. Hello? No notes. I still think about it. The steak was cooked medium, the flavor, the char, just wow. The branzino? Just wow. Definitely one of the best branzinos I ever had. For dessert, I believe my friend got the black and white cake and at the time I got the apple cheesecake. The bibimbap was pretty bad -- texture was way off and everything in it felt old and overcooked, including the rice. The ribeye with chili crisp butter was pretty good. Gui Steakhouse is one of those places you can easily walk right past if you aren't looking for it, but once inside, it's well worth the stop. There's a bar and lounge downstairs called Bar 92, but we went upstairs for dinner at Gui, and the food, ambiance, and service were all truly five-star. For our first visit, we decided on the $65 prix fixe menu, which includes three courses, and also ordered a lump crab cake à la carte. With drinks, add-ons, tax, and tip, the total came out to about $140 per person, which felt reasonable for the overall experience. The drinks were good overall. I really enjoyed the Jungle Bird Punch since it was flavorful and different, even though the glass was only filled a little over halfway. My friend tried the Wine Punch and thought it was okay but felt like something was missing, almost like it was a standard sangria. For the prix fixe, we chose the Caesar salad and crudo to start, followed by steak frites and the branzino from the day's fish market. Everything leading up to dessert was excellent. The steak was cooked perfectly to preference, the salad was a nicely sized portion, and the warm, soft brioche table bread was a highlight. Dessert was good but didn't quite wow us. The black and white cake is great for anyone who loves a deep chocolate flavor, and the apple cheesecake was enjoyable, though next time I'd try something different. Our server Ann was absolutely wonderful. She checked in just the right amount without making us feel rushed or bombarded, made thoughtful recommendations, answered all of our questions, and was very attentive to noting any allergies or food restrictions, which we truly appreciated. The only reason this lands at a 4.5 instead of a full five is the wine punch falling a bit flat and desserts being solid but not memorable. Went for a friend's birthday and it accommodated our large group pretty well. Drinks downstairs already started off strong in terms of offerings and alcohol content as members in my party were surprised of the harsh nature of baiju for the first time. Steaks were pretty good but seemed a little lacking on their own. The galbi was tasty but maybe a little too sweet and one note after a while. Surprisingly one of my favorites was the salmon tartare? Stopped in for some appetizers at the bar, this is separated as a waiting area, dark lighting, away from the rest of the restaurant. Very busy - folks waiting on reservations and seeing if any open space. Bartender accidentally gave me a full dose of their tea extract in a drink instead of a simple unsweet tea... they corrected it though after checking their work! Oysters were cool and refreshing, good sauce (forgot to ask which one it was). The sliders were 1x per order, but were quite good. And the fries were on-point, not too thick and cooked right. We happened to experience this fantastic Korean inspired steakhouse while sitting at their sister business Bar 92 on the first floor. Created by Michelin star Chef Sungchul Shim. While I cannot speak to the atmosphere of the actual restaurant space we were able to enjoy the delicious food offered. I did review Bar 92 separately which I do reccomend either checking it out before visiting Gui or do what my wife and I did and enjoy the drinks and food at Bar 92. Benny and AP brought absolute top notch service for us that made it a perfect night for celebrating my wife's birthday! Food wise my wife got the Flat Iron Steak which technically they did not ask how she wanted it cooked but absolutely nailed it to her liking. It came on top of some risotto and enjoyed that as well. I ended up debating between the Grilled Chicken with a mushroom Diane sauce and their Long Island Flounder. Benny sold me on the chicken because the sauce and the chicken was cooked perfectly. The sauce was full of flavor and paired with the chicken very well. Lastly Benny also convinced us to grab a dessert for the end of our meal and ended up crafting a drink to pair with it as well. The dessert was just as high quality and tasty, we ended up getting the Paris-Jeju that was listed as jeju sejak, tangerine mousse, & blackberry. It was the perfect end to our meal. If I'm going to be honest, I'm from out of town. Across the country and an ocean in fact, on one of the most isolated islands on the planet, Oahu. I found out about Gui through a recent YouTube video and being a pretty avid steak connoisseur back home, I wanted to taste what a true expert would craft. Making a reservation at Gui was straightforward and I noted the Gui cut prime rib was on the top of my list on the reservation itself and it served me well once I arrived. I did manage to accidentally walk past this place as I was distracted by a very bright sign across the street. Once I got my coat and bag check settled, I moved right on upstairs via the elevator and was greeted by the hostess on the other side of those elevator doors. Service was spectacular contrary to some of these more recent reviews. I was shown to my seat and shortly attended to with a menu. The waiter mentioned that they read my note about the prime rib and ensured me that they have plenty left - while handing the menu. Though, that's really all I wanted to and had space to eat. Especially being a tourist, I didn't have space or time to eat any leftovers so I asked for recommendations for sides - none of which really rang the hunger bell in my stomach - so I went straight for the prime rib, no frills. That ended up being the right decision to pursue in my particular case because I left incredibly full. Prime rib came out hot, fresh, and with instructions from the server. Waters were refilled nearly every time I took a single sip. This was michelin-level service at what I assume others would deem a normal steakhouse. Other than awkwardly eating by myself in the middle of what seemed to be a fully-packed restaurant, I had a good time. Staff was really friendly and attentive. I had the best prime rib of my life that I hope to recreate at home for Christmas and I got to see the chef hustlin' - almost like seeing a celebrity at this point. I watched everyone in the kitchen striving for their best. This dinner was really enjoyable. Service was top tier. If it didn't take 13 hours to get to New York, I would be 100% certain that I'd be coming back. However, I can only say so long, until next time. Thank you for the experience, it was very memorable. I'm a bit partial to corn cheese, but this was good too. 5/5 PRIME RIB SPECIAL ~ shio kombu and nuruk rub served with Pomme purée, au jus, horseradish crème. A beefy, juicy prime rib cooked just right! The Pomme purée was creamy, rich and great with the meat. The au jus was too sweet for my liking, but it was fine without the sauce, by using the horseradish crème. Korean food does have a sweetness, but I think prime rib should be more savory rather than sweet. 4/5 PARIS JEJU ~ Jeju sejak, tangerine mousse, blackberry. French pastry filled with mousse. We both chose this as our dessert thinking it would be less heavy, but still, it was rich with the tangerine mousse. We were stuffed, so we just had a few bites of this. Goodness. There wasn't a single thing I put in my mouth here that didn't make me go "MMMM." I thought the meat was some of the best I've had at a steakhouse and they had hints of Asian flavors in everything and Korean dishes on the menu which made it more exciting for me. I actually had prime rib the day before and I was reluctant in having more, but GUI's was so much better. Every bite was seasoned! I was expecting there to be a set for dinner like in other KBBQ places where I could just come, sit, and mindlessly tell people that I want the set. Maybe add on a cut or two. I had to keep reminding myself that this wasn't exactly a kbbq place. It was more like a steakhouse with kbbq items featured on the menu. You don't get chopsticks, there's no banchan. You have to pay for the sauces and sides liek other steakhouses. Also got some drinks from Gui's cocktail bar, Bar 92. I almost liked it as much as I liked the restaurant. Drinks were great. Craft cocktails were super crushable and/or unique. Loved all the Asian/Southeast Asian flavors especially Paradise which had ube and pandan. Upon entering Gui, there's a nice and elegant bar on the ground level where you can grab a quick drink. The elevator takes you to the second floor, which is where the restaurant is. Our waiter was friendly, walked us through the specials, and recommended a few entrées to share. We started with a few specialty cocktails, and each one was amazing in its own way. For appetizers, we ordered the A5 wagyu katsu sando and the yookhwe. The wagyu katsu sando literally melts in your mouth. I could eat ten of these! The seaweed chips paired perfectly with the yookhwe. For mains, we ordered the galbi, tomahawk, creamed corn, and roasted brussels sprouts. The galbi absolutely stole the show. It was thick cut, tender and flavorful. The presentation of the tomahawk was amazing, but didn't stand out, as it could've been seasoned better. I made a reservation for 3 on OpenTable to celebrate a belated birthday for my friend and her partner. I wanted something new and under-the-radar, so after a bit of research I landed on GUI, a fairly new Korean-inspired steakhouse conveniently located right off the 49th St station. The staff reached out ahead of time to ask about allergies and even confirmed again in person when I arrived, which was a great first impression and definitely a green flag. It was a rainy Sunday, and since they open at 4 PM, I showed up a bit early (20 mins early) to grab a drink at the bar during happy hour. The bartenders were friendly and quick with a menu, and my Arnold Palmer was refreshing. I had my eye on the oysters but learned there's a 6-piece minimum (fair enough). The space itself is beautiful and I especially loved the traditional Korean mother-of-pearl decor touches that made it feel both modern and elevated. Once my friends arrived, things got a little less smooth. Even though our reservation was for 4 PM, we weren't seated until around 4:30 PM. The staff seemed a bit disorganized--there were a few broken plates downstairs and a lot of movement without clear communication. Once seated, we were asked about water (tap/sparkling/bottled) twice by different servers, and it became clear that there wasn't a dedicated waiter for our table. I also had to ask three times for a Sprite or ginger ale before it finally came out- small details, but noticeable when you're trying to enjoy a nice dinner. We ordered a good mix of dishes: crab cake, porterhouse, tomahawk, wagyu kimchi fried rice, carrots, eggplant tempura, and a side of chimichurri. The standout for me was the porterhouse which was tender, flavorful, and perfectly seasoned. The tomahawk looked impressive but didn't quite deliver in flavor or texture compared to the porterhouse. I had also noted in the reservation that part of the steak should be cooked medium since the birthday girl is pregnant, and while I appreciated them accommodating that, it ended up way overcooked... tough and dry, unfortunately. Sides and apps were mostly wins: the crab cake, kimchi fried rice, and carrots were delicious, while I'd skip the chimichurri next time... the in-house steak sauce with salt and pepper was more than enough. For dessert, we tried the earl grey ice cream and the dragon fruit sorbet. The sorbet had an added coconut and lemongrass twist, which sounded interesting but gave off a strange aftertaste that none of us loved. The crumb and wafer at the bottom, though, were a nice touch. One small letdown: since it was a birthday dinner, I noted it on the reservation (and they even printed it on our menus), but no candle came with dessert. The waiter realized afterward and offered to bring one, but by then, we'd already finished...a small miss, but a miss nonetheless. Overall, GUI has great potential as the food was solid and the ambiance stunning, but the service still feels like it's finding its rhythm. We were easily able to walk into GUI on a Saturday evening without a reservation. The menu is meat-forward but I truly enjoyed my meal as a vegetarian, as there are plenty of delicious sides. My biggest disappointment was that the menu when we arrived was slightly different than what was online - one of my biggest pet peeves. To drink, I tried their Persimmon Campari and Daquiri - I enjoyed both but the daquiri was definitely stronger. To eat, free bread to start! I enjoyed their Spring Pea Agnolotti (sans bacon) and a variety of their sides, my favorite of which were the Brussels sprouts, mushrooms (some of the most flavorful shrooms I've had!), carrots, etc. Their eggplant katsu is a take on eggplant Parmesan and I love how it's offered and an entrée and a side portion. Desserts were delicious (but small) - mini cookie skillet and profiteroles. Service was friendly but a little inattentive (our waters were empty for half the night and we had to chase down waiters twice to get refills). The interior was nice. Located on a second floor the place gives an upscale vibe with a dry age meat display from the moment you step inside. Outstanding staff giving a very attentive and knowledgeable service. The food is incredible! My personal favorites were the Wagyu katsu sandos with caviar, mouthwatering. Also the prime rib steak and the Galbi were delicious, meat was tender and juicy. Upon entering you can't help but notice the massive beef in the glass refrigerator behind the hostess station. The decor is new and sleek. Our server was friendly, and as attentive as they were with water refills and clearing dishes, the pace of everything was off. It took forever for coffee and soda. First course took a while to arrive. Both the tartare and the salad looked lovely but we're lacking in flavor. Second course arrived at room temperature. The beef was smoky and flavored well, but we had to flag down the hostess to have our third course served. The manager was apologetic- but it was definitely disappointing. Had a delectable lunch with my partner recently and would absolutely recommend! Interior was very sleek and yet also serene.. very much spa meets steakhouse atmosphere. I am still licking my fingers after devouring the Wagyu Katsu Sando with Caviar. Come see why chef Sungchul clearly knows his way around a modern Korean steakhouse. Here's what I ordered: a whole black seabass, a 12 oz. NY strip, kimchi Wagyu fried rice, and the eggplant katsu. Every dish was prepared to perfection. The cocktails are top notch I will return for happy hour this summer. Sadly, I had to skip dessert because I had to leave--but I'll definitely be back sooner rather than later as the servers was all about the customer and the restaurant manager was nice enough to check in on me also. Everything at GUI was fantastic ~ COMING IN + SERVICE: When we first came in, we were a little thrown off ~ it's not a super inviting entrance/bar and no one acknowledged us after a few min, + there was no host, so we made our way to the elevator assuming that the bar was just entirely separate. The bartender then told us to wait for the host, & wasn't super friendly about it So we were a little like hmmmm at first Once the host came down, she was super helpful and nice ~ 5 min later we were seated upstairs. Downstairs is way more chill, dim, dark tones but upstairs felt breathable, gorgeous layout and design. Service upstairs was impeccable! Our server was so helpful with everything, gave fabulous reccs ~ we loved n appreciateeee her! FOOD Perfection! From the bread n butter, to the spicy tuna tartare, to their wonderful wagyu, to the gorgeous desserts. The Gui Cut Prime Rib was delicious ~ We went on Saturday 8:30PM and they were out of the Wagyu Prime Rib.We ended up getting Wagyu Sirloin (yum) and the Wagyu Galbi (YUMMM) Sides are a staple and a great pairing. The wild mushrooms are seasoned beautifully, potato rosti gave a nice textural crunch compared to the fatty meats! PRICE You get what you pay for. Quality is there!! Trade-off ~ skip the wagyu sando for another 3oz of Wagyu you want to try!! This spot has been on my radar for awhile. It's a steakhouse with Korean influences and all I have seen are good reviews. They are currently participating in restaurant week and they also have a normal pre-fixed 3 course lunch menu outside of restaurant week. But, I opted for their 2 - course restaurant week lunch menu, because the item that I wanted was only on the RW menu. We ordered: Complimentary bread Appetizer: Mari Spicy Tuna "Tartar" Spring Salad Entrées: Today's Market Fish -- Branzino when we went Filet Mignon 8oz + $27 The bar on the first floor and restaurant were beautifully decorated / elegant. The staff were really friendly. But I feel like the food didn't live up to the hype. I wasn't blown away by the food, so I'm glad I got to sample the filet mignon during restaurant week. GUI oh how I'm so happy I finally made reservations. I love all of chef shims restaurants so I had to try this one. We did the restaurant week menu and added some apps. It is a bit loud but the food and service totally make up for it. Love the ambiance and feel of the space. Beautifully decorated, and also love how you can see inside the kitchen. The meat was unbelievably tender, practically melting in your mouth with every bite. I was so curious about how they achieved such flavor and texture that I asked one of the servers. I was told the steak is marinated in a blend of Korean fruits and spices--and wow, you can truly taste the care and innovation behind it. We also shared the Kimchi Wagyu fried rice, which was impeccably cooked and laced with just the right amount of savory, spicy kimchi. A perfect pairing with the richness of the steak. Before the main course, we sampled the cold seafood, including a lobster tail and scallops. The scallops were tender and packed with flavor--honestly, I still can't get over how magically they prepare both land and sea proteins at this place. If I could peek into the kitchen and learn the chef's secrets, I would! For dessert, we shared a tiramisu which was indulgent and satisfying. My cocktail had a subtle apple flavor and paired beautifully with the meal--though the name escapes me, the balance and flavor did not. GUI Steakhouse is hands down AMAZE. I've never had a more perfect prime rib. I'm still thinking about it. We paired it with the solid kimchi fried rice and wild mushrooms. To start, highly recommend the shrimp toast, which was the more affordable caviar option on the menu and tasted great. For dessert, the yuzu Baked Alaska was out of this world, and a perfect petite size after our filling dinner. I don't think I can have prime rib anywhere else after GUI. I'm in love. read more

We had a wonderful time at GUI. The staff members were respectful, friendly and helpful. Our server Jose was very knowledgeable about the food. It was very special to hear about his personal story of treating his mother certain items we got for his mother on Mother's Day. It added a personal touch to our experience there. We had Hokkaido scallops, purple savory clams, and prawns. The sauces that were served complimented the appetizers very well. We really enjoyed Wagyu Katsu Sando and the in-house Brioche. They were absolutely delightful! Our main courses of prime rib and galbi were very tender. Our sides of wild mushrooms, and roasted Brussels sprouts were delicious. I had a craving for a good steak for my birthday and I was I found Gui. Hands down one of the best steaks I had. The sides and appetizers were good. The only one that stand out was the Wagyu sando. Steak and bread was perfect with the caviar topping. The prime rib was perfectly cooked and sooo tender. Came with horseradish sauce and au jus. The steak was so good, I did not need either. Then came the porterhouse, another fine piece of meat! Perfectly seared and perfectly medium rare. For dessert we ordered the B&W mousse and the baked Alaska. Our server saw us contemplating about the Panna cotta and he bought us that on the house. Gotta say the desserts were also really good. Chose this place on a whim as we wanted to go to a fancy steakhouse restaurant in NYC before we left NY. This is located in Manhattan by time square. The only way or best option to get here is by train unless you have a chauffeur or get here by uber or taxi. There is no free parking and street parking would be difficult. Going in the building, there is bar area. Good for a hang out for a drink. Take the elevator for the dining area to see the reception desk. We were greeted fairly well by all the staff. The server was funny and helpful too. It was not too crowded for lunch. The restaurant was very modern and nicely decorated. We had their lunch special so it might be different from their dinner menu. Great selection of wine and spirit drinks. My hubs and I had their Pinot Noir to start as we love wine with steak. We all ended up getting their GUI Prix Fixe for all of us. My husband and daughter had their lunch special prime Rib special prix fixe while I had the Filet Mignon 8oz prix fixe. My son had their lunch special regular prix fixe. I tried my husband's prime rib and it was cooked well. I loved my mignon medium better. It was cooked well with perfect seasoning that I didn't need anything with it but I love a good steak with horseradish cream with all my steak. The horseradish was not spicy though. Did not like the crème corn sauce that it came with though. My son had their hanger steak frites and he was only ok with it. Our sides were pretty good. The Caesar salad was small but good. It had too much cheese though and for me to say that is horrendous! The Mari Spicy tuna was ok to me. They also give free warm bread as well before your meal. The dessert were all good. The Prix Fixe meal came with dessert. We tried all. The black and white cake was moist and perfect. The panna cotta was just right and refreshing with sweet fruits of tropical fruit. The chocolate and dragonfruit sorbet was good as well. All in all, loved our experience and food here. I would definitely recommend this place for a romantic dinner or even a group meal.
