25 April 2026 I went to Steak & Shake today to buy a steak burger ... My first time at this Place and the first time in years that I visited a Steak & Shake. I was surprised upon entry to see a sign directing me to a machine to place my order. Fine. I touched the screen and searched for steak burgers. A complete menu of various steak burgers popped up on the screen and I had to peruse the entire screen searching for my steak burger with bacon , cheese , yadda yadda yadda. After accomplishing that feat I attempted to order a side of french fries. I punched the symbol for fries several times as my selection did not activate the machine into compliance. Oh well, looks like no fries today fatty boy. I'm on a diet anyway, can't ya just tell . So no fries fatty paid the machine and my change popped out. I waited and waited but no order delivered. People ahead of me and behind me received their orders. But not me. Finally after a gentle inquiry I was informed my order would arrive shortly. And so it did, minus the fries which the machine refused to give me. ( I think the machine knew I was dieting and wanted to help me out .) Boy , I sure do miss the human connection, the eye contact , the smile , the welcoming tone to the voice of the employee, who was now replaced by a cold machine. Harraumph ! In an endeavor to save money by replacing a human employee with a machine , Steak & Shake lost my money because after this experience I will be going to Burger King . The BBQ Bacon Burger is my go-to at Steak n Shake! I wasn't a huge fan of the chili cheese fries, the chili was pretty flavorless but the cheese fries are good! The new tots aren't bad but they aren't anything to rave about. My main argument with eating here is the inconsistency is the amount of cheese they give you for the cheese fries. It's either barely enough and they make you pay for more or it's more than enough and they don't charge extra. read more

So I got a "we miss you" come an get a free milk of your choice (after 4PM), placed an online order with the free shake and was charged full price for the orange dreamsicle shake. This store was ok a few months ago but today 8-29-25 it was amazing. I ordered on the app in the parking lot to pickup inside and eat there. I was greeted by a gentleman that appeared to be a manager. He said hello with a smile. I told him I had a mobile order and he asked my name. After telling him, he brought me my drink while I waited. When the food came out, a female brought it to me with a bigger smile than the manager! I felt special. The restaurant and drive through were busy when I arrived, but they still had time to greet me before the door closed behind me, with a smile! Where do you get that? Wife and I went in for lunch. Not too familiar with their menu. We were greeted warmly, asked it we needed help with using their menu, and found it easy. Ordered, took a seat while waiting, and order came out fairly quickly. Everything fresh and tasty. Burger and fries for both along with Milkshakes. (Splurged). Restaurant was clean, kept clean meaning saw people sweeping under tables which is unusual these days in most establishments. Not sure I understand how that happens, but could only eat one or two of the entire large batch. Since I never eat inside anymore, I ate it on my way back to the Hotel, so didn't take it back. The service was good, our server read back our order quickly and diligently without missing a beat. She did a great job even when we added and changed our order twice. The "new" Old fashioned Butter Burger was amazing. We split our burger in three since everyone wanted a taste. The drive though was quick and we got our order in a timely manner. I love steak 'n Shake, but I would not recommend this location I ordered Uber eats I paid for three different cheese sauces and I also paid for my combo meal. My fries were about a quarter of the way full. My order didn't come with any of my cheese, sauces and to top it all off my burger was flipped upside down and thrown in my box and it was the workers because my bag was taped and was not tampered with by my Dasher. A good place to grab a light snack with my elderly dad. He enjoys a chili dog with the crispy shoestring fries and cold sweet tea. He prefers his iced tea with lemon but to no avail. Also, no waiters anymore so U have to order at the cash and credit machine then take your receipt and wait for them to call your number. You have to ask for ketchup if u want it and they give u packets. All in all it was okay. The sweet tea wasn't that sweet but they did have sugar packets. My hotdog was good and the shoestring French fries were very good, crisp and not greasy. Dad enjoyed his chili dog and fries also. I came here to get my free birthday milk shake. Its never free. you buy something to get it. I got the very strawberry shake. Pretty good. I order the REALLY big cola. About 32 ounces for a buck, see pic. I tried the chili for the first time. Just mediocre and plain. The onion rings. OKay. A double cheese burger with those awful thin fries...$4....The burger taste like all the other fast food joints except maybe *urger King. What going for them is they are cheaper than all the others...plus you can get loads of coupons for variation of the burgers. I know from intuition the servers must be paid squat. Worst experience ever... Never again! I've had some less than satisfactory visits to this restaurant in the past but today was the final straw. I felt like a milkshake so I slid into their drive through on my way past. Didn't look busy as only 3 cars in the drive through. Well first they ask me to wait to place my order at the speaker. A good 5 minutes passes before a voice finally comes back and takes my order for 1 milkshake. I then proceed to sit behind two other cars as we wait to "process" past the takeout window. Each of us has our money taken... but no food... we are slowly told to move ahead and "wait". It takes me a full 15 minutes to get to the window and pay for my drink... then another 5+ minutes sitting in the lane-way waiting for my drink. Almost a half an hour from when I started this fiasco the girl comes outside and tells me they are out of the syrup for my milkshake. I'm obviously angry and tell her I want my money back since they can't supply the item they sold me and she tells me to pull out of the way and she'll come back. This makes me angrier. Why should I be put aside to wait longer yet others who came after me are not inconvenienced? So I pull ahead, park my car and go inside... where I see the young lady NOT getting my refund but processing someone else's drink order. After standing at the counter trying to get someone to pay attention to me I finally wave someone down and demand that I speak to the manager. A gentleman who said he was the manager "apologized" and agreed that it was "unacceptable" that the young girl was processing someone else's order instead of getting me my refund. No explanation how I was made to wait over 1/2 an hour before being told my order couldn't be filled... or why my refund wasn't high enough priority to be processed before other orders who came after me. When I asked for his name he only gave me "Mike"... and it want until I insisted for his last name that he finally properly identified himself. I'll never step foot in Steak & Shake again! Just to add... when I went inside there was another customer impatiently trying to get someone to take his take order... The restaurant was less than half full and yet we waited probably about two or three minutes before the hostess even acknowledged us. After we sat down, it took about another seven minutes for a waitress to come acknowledge us. The restaurant is not very clean. You can tell just by looking at the floors. But once the waitress came to take our order, the food arrived somewhat quickly. I had the Royal burger and my wife had a salad and the Wisconsin butter burger. Both were fantastic. Our children ate free meals because they have a "kids eat free all weekend long" promotion which was pretty cool. But you have to spend over nine dollars per adult. I like the burgers, the crispy thin fries, and their shakes are some of the best. I was there recently and ordered three full meals, including shakes. They messed up two out of the three orders. Sadly the manager of this location is not doing a good job. Bad service makes you lose money. It's actually a testament to the food because otherwise this place wouldn't survive. When I did my Yelp check-in I almost panicked when I read the negative reviews about this establishment... I was hoping they were all wrong, but how could they be? Then My husband wanted to eat there and I had to load their new app. It transferred my points. Use to be when you used the app it deducted from my card. I had only 4 points to get my rewards. I put money on a gift card in the app. It told me I had added it ok. Then we ate and I went to use my app. It would not say I had credit. It wanted me to reload. In the two times I've been in to pick up a carryout order for my boyfriend, I've been unimpressed with the customer service/lack of courtesy of employees, as well as the cleanliness of both the dining area and restroom. I just came in tonight and there wasn't a long wait in front of the register (one patron), yet it took quite awhile to place my order, as the manager, a blonde man in his 30s, was fooling around with one of the employees at the front register. Two adult men. I stood there, awkwardly, for about a minute before I was even acknowledged (after asking whether I could place an order, lol). I ordered a pretty basic "two single burgers with everything"--but the manager rung them up as doubles and tried to charge me considerably more. Probably an honest mistake, but had he not been goofing off with the other employee, it probably could've been avoided. To make it more awkward, there was an off-duty employee sitting next to the register on the patron side, half in uniform, STARING at me the whole time, especially when I first walked in. It was very weird and I still have no idea what that was about. I know that it's "just Steak n Shake"...but it was unwelcoming and kinda bizarre. Next, the restroom. I have an unofficial "rule" about this I've learned from friends who are cooks: never eat at a restaurant that has a dirty restroom, as the kitchen is most likely kept the same/cleaned (or not) about as often.
