Honestly, Steak and Shake has a great oldies vibe to it and I love it!! What I DONT love is when I went in today (not knowing about the new way of ordering first and then sitting down), I walked in, the guy asked me if I wanted a menu and I said "sure" and he handed me one. I asked him "can I go find a place to sit?" And he said " you need to order first and then sit down" WHILE SLAMMING HIS HANDS ON THE TOUCHSCREEN. All the other people were nice except him. When I'm craving a great patty melt well this is the place to get it. Hands down a great sandwich, love the grilled onions and the rye bread. Its phenomenal in my opinion plus the shoestring French fries are pretty good to. They have a great butterfinger milk shake that's to die for ,actually all the shakes are hand made with fresh ingredients. I also think for a fast food restaurant this place makes a mean chili also. Surprise, surprise!! One of the best, affordable breakfast diners in town! If you want more than a sausage biscuit or a muffin with an egg patty, look no further. A real sit down breakfast served with real plates and real knives and forks at an affordable price!! The service here is horrible. I came in and all the employees were huddled up having a conversation that did not pertain to work. I was seated at the nook next to the register to place a to go order. The young lady told me to just let them know when I was ready to order and she went back to the conversation. Cherry Limeade was not good at all. I left a review about 8 months ago about the slow service. Nothing has changed. I went in this morning, around 10:45 on a Sunday. I ordered the country skillet, which includes a biscuit and my friend ordered biscuits and gravy. At least 20 minutes later and closer to 30, someone informs us that they are out of biscuits. We are Regular customers of this particular restaurant whenever we go up to Fayetteville, and yesterday was no different. I decided to take my daughter and my grandson out for lunch and we ordered the standard burgers, fries, and milkshakes, my nine-year-old grandson was the first one who found hair in his vanilla milkshake, and of course we did not allow him to drink the rest of it. I am a senior 65-year-old woman-and I thought it might be a good idea for me to check my food as well. I too found hair in my french fries and hamburger. Our stomachs completely turned over, and although we were still hungry we had no desire to have another meal cooked for us by the same cook. The cook on duty appeared to be a Hispanic man, and I'm not sure if he was wearing any kind if hair net or hat , as I quickly just wanted to get out of there just glanced. There was trash all over the floor and while it felt like it had been cleaned recently as in things weren't greasy, it looked trashy and did not smell very clean. We tried to explain that we would've not ordered what we had if the coupon was not valid. I honestly can't fathom how a fast food joint could be run so poorly. My husband and I went through the drive through, ordered a combo meal & two milkshakes. The wait was excessively long, and when we got to the window our order was all wrong. We got it corrected and pulled away, only to discover it was still wrong. We didn't have time to go back, so I called to let the manager know we were not impressed with our experience. He was very apologetic and kind and offered us 2 free milkshakes on our next visit (this is why I gave 2 stars instead of none). So last night we went by to get our free shakes. Again, the wait time was astronomical (more than 15 minutes in the drive through). The manager was great and had us pull forward to wait for them to bring them out to us. Another 10 minutes.
