The food I had was pretty tasty, I got to try the chicken and beef shawarma plate - very expensive but very tasty, big portion enough for 2 meals. I also tried the beef kifta kabob wrap with a side of falafel- delicious! They threw in an extra falafel as well, thanks! There is also plenty of seating inside if you want to dine in. My only negatives are they do not give free cups of water, you have to buy a bottle if you want a drink. And they only include one tiny cup of hot sauce with your order. Overall, it was a good experience, if you want Mediterranean and you're in Gurnee it's not a bad choice.

Nothing else looked appetizing in the stretch of Illinois 132 just west of G.A., so we figured the last time at Mission was SO awful, it had to be a fluke, and this store should CERTAINLY be better. It wasn't. We both had "2 meat" plates- I with Ribs, Sausage and Wife had Ribs and pulled pork. We both had slaw and fries. The pulled pork was the least offensive of the proteins. This time, it was the opposite of last time--not so fatty, and not so flavorful either. Dry and insipid. The Sausage was mushy and strangely lacking in real flavor. And the goddamned Ribs were the same ineptly butchered mess we ran into in Naperville. Shards of Bones at the top of the cut. Slightly over-smoked/over-cooked as well. WTF? That much of the same criticism of Naperville was in play here made us think this is the way things are served at Mission BBQ and not an anomaly. A mention to the manager wouldn't help things. Now in the "Every theory has a corollary" dept: As in Naperville the slaw, fries and cornbread were pretty good; as was the Iced Tea and fountain drink "throw". The sauces were all pretty good too. Wished there was some decent "Q" to put them on. Maybe it's just our taste, or we are spoiled by "Q" in our visits to the South, but there's no excuse for the lazy butchering of the ribs, or the mushiness of the sausage. I know "corporate" chains tamp down spices in the "come bet" common palates will desire a less bold cuisine, but DAMN! this is BARBEQUE. American Q is NOT a "safe" proposition. This isn't the cuisine to play it safe. Then again, it's not meant as an insult, but Suburban denizens (unless you're a suburb of, say...Austin Texas) prolly aren't in for foods meant to challenge. I see enough 5star Yelps indicating a lot of folks like this place; so I'll assume Wife and I are the outliers. We haven't found a whole lot of Suburban Northern Q supremely edible. The whole mishegoss is a dilemma, as Mission BBQ is deep into honoring our service Men & Women. We are, too. That a portion of the (considerable) cash we left there goes to Service folks soothes at least part of the sting of a lousy feed...

If I could have cancelled I would have but it was the first time and the last time. I asked one last time "What happened to the owner who was supposedly was going to say Hello?" They said he left through the side door because he was busy. His picture is on a large sign outside and this man was at Aldi when I stopped for apples on the way back home to Arlington Heights. As a former employee of the Gurnee location, I rate this work experience as the worst of any job I've had, and will ever have. A typical day of work involved me arriving to a dirty restaurant with incompetent managers and co-workers. I feel as though I was the only employee amongst dozens (of which the turnover rate was higher than I've ever witnessed at any company), who seemed concerned with maintaining a clean restaurant and providing service warranting customers' return. A typical day's work involved management resorting to and remaining in the office the length of my shift, co-workers with dirty appearance, improper vocabulary, uneducated and unconcerned with job retention, resulting in myself functioning at the capacity of manager, server, janitor, dish-washer, drive thru attendant and cashier. Upper management are the worst, although I can't say for sure since they never took the time to converse with me, because having a conversation with me would challenge their effortless work ethic. They intentionally and consistently under-pay their employees. My termination resulted after receiving three written warnings, all given to me by a manager during a three minute meeting on a Saturday night rush. One of the warnings was for not wearing a bow tie, and two for two separate complaints I received while managing the restaurant since management was never available, although my job description is strictly service. One of the complaints received as a warning was from a customer who verbally threatened me and physically assaulted me. My response was such that I advised I was physically assaulted and stated I would no longer function at capacity of manager until I received adequate training in response to customer complaints. I never received any follow up in any form, from any management, until three months later, when I was terminated for said written warnings, by a phone call on a co-workers telephone 30 minutes prior to my scheduled shift, which resulted in me not being able to pay my rent and losing my apartment. Had they given me any indication of their dissatisfaction I would have resolved the issue to the best of my ability or found work else where. read more

Customer service should be paramount at all times or if it's 10 o'clock or 10 PM when a customer asked to put his lettuce and tomatoes on top of the burger and the staff decide to make it a very difficult process this is not the best customer service experience that I want to half of my first time at steak and shake in Gurnee before a 12 hour shift I had the pleasure of having Tatiana the customer service rep assist me with my order which she made very difficult and also made it known that she was not using gloves when she prepare my order I hope this is not a franchisee location nor a corporate location if it is I would highly suggest that they review their staff evening shift as soon as possible read more

This place is really hit or miss depending on the server you get. I have gone many times living in the area and I have had just about every server there. Most of them are sub-par, which is why i only go when Michael is working. He is the only server there that is worth going for. Hes there most weeknights from 11pm to 7am.
