Taking soooooo long for the food. It took almost more than half an hour. Food looks nice however the burger was burn and dry. I asked extra tomato onion and mayonnaise for burger but all are missing. Potato tots and my french fries are so cold not even taste fresh. Bathroom is so dirty. I don't think will ever come back again. Sorry.

Went through the drive thru and was surprisingly pleased with my meal/experience! I got the frisco melt combo (number 3) with a cookies and cream shake! Everything was fresh and hot even the fries! Overall was the best meal I've gotten from a steak and shake in a while!

Food was awesome! I ordered a western BBQ N' Bacon Steakburger and a small fry and it was excellent! Food was ready quick which is always a plus. Minimal interaction with staff since you order via kiosk now. Lots of seating and tables were overall pretty clean. My one item for feedback is they didn't have the steak and shake fry seasoning available (which is delicious) - the only way to get it was to buy a seasoning jar full of it.

It's been a while since I've been to steak and staple about 2 years and I went to the one in Rosemont. I just came fro Gurnee Mills Mall since I had Martin Luther King day off and just to go window shopping. At first, I was unsure if Steak n Shake was open because the logo was taken down so I called them while I was at the mall since it was very cold on Martin Luther King's Day 2026. Well, since there's no live cashier to take your order like the other fast food chains, you have to order it on a kiosk exclusively. Unfortunately one of the kiosks which was credit only was not working correctly I'm glad it did not take payments so I went to another kiosks to order the same thing that I wanted. I ended up getting the eggnog milkshake which is exclusive for the winter season specially with Christmas holiday over. I ordered it with extra whipped cream and cherries. It was delicious. My milkshake came out first then my other order and I would have thought they would have brought it or called me at the same time with my triple cheese burger and my medium size Tallow fries. The steak triple patty cheeseburger was good it wasn't a "wow" good but it was good. Now I do taste the difference using tallow. It doesn't seem as greasy and it makes the french fries more rich in flavor. The only thing is Steak n Shake makes their fries similar to McDonald's on how they slice them. They're not thick fries or medium cut fries. One of the reasons is because I was curious how tallow tasted like. It actually is pretty good if that's how they used to make or cook french fries back in the 1950s and earlier. The reason why three stars is there's no more cashier. You have to exclusively order on the kiosk and one of the kiosks was not working properly for credit card. It took 5 minutes and I wasn't sure hopefully it did not process on the first kiosk which I thought was working. The second kiosk which says cash and credit is the one I use and it took my order. There's nobody there to help you which is what I don't like to give advice in regards to a cashier. That was the same experience I had at the Shake n Steak in Rosemont, Illinois two years ago. Yes, their food is good but their customer service seems cold or unenthusiastic. It's funny and ironic that under The entry foyer they show the staff smiling and wearing a uniform but in reality they're not even dressed with a tuxedo tie and short sleeve shirt with the CEO manager. Also they were out of napkins tonight. I had to wait and tell their staff but they seem very busy. Likewise, with the kiosk. Again the food is decently good with the new cooking the tallow fries but the customer service it's just really something that needs improvenent again.Ambience was busy in the beginning but quiet down after I walked in. Especially with the FDA implementing that vegetable oil is bad to fry french fries which is somewhat true but they could have used olive oil instead of tallow to fry french fries

Overall: 4/5 Food: 4/5 Cleanliness: 4/5 Service: 5/5 Price: 4/5 Can't even lie, the food here was smackin! The shoestrings fries are fire!! The burgers were on point, the customer service was fast, friendly and polite! The oreo milkshake was smackin! The price was definitely fair in today's inflated world. I would fasho doubleback!

Great food. They know how to create a masterpiece of a burger. They have awesome fries too. Im always wanting more!

Great burgers and fries. They have awesome ingredients and they are one of my favorite burger spots.

I have not been to a Steak 'n Shake in years. You order on a kiosk now and the soda machine takes a QR code. The food was hot and fresh. The shakes were wonderful. We received a free shake since we did the survey and it was after 4 PM. The staff, especially Khali, was wonderful.

The food I had was pretty tasty, I got to try the chicken and beef shawarma plate - very expensive but very tasty, big portion enough for 2 meals. I also tried the beef kifta kabob wrap with a side of falafel- delicious! They threw in an extra falafel as well, thanks! There is also plenty of seating inside if you want to dine in. My only negatives are they do not give free cups of water, you have to buy a bottle if you want a drink. And they only include one tiny cup of hot sauce with your order. Overall, it was a good experience, if you want Mediterranean and you're in Gurnee it's not a bad choice.

Young lady at cash register/ counter took time to fully explain menu and make recommendations. So very helpful. Their dining room, which was immaculate manager, Rose was so nice and very proud of her success there. Young man, manager also came by our table and gave us great background on this national chain. Service simply off the charts amazing. Had chopped brisket sandwich, piled high with superb quality smoked meat and sauce. Even something simple as fries were crispy, hot, well seasoned. My ex wife had sliced brisket and green beans. Generous portions and delicious. Fantastic selections of really tasty sauces. Large selection of cold drinks. Fantastic decor paying tribute to military, police, fire. Oh yeah, fairly priced for an outstanding overall experience. Highly recommended on every level. A real gem. Gave us a few samples of sauces to take home to top off an already excellent dining experience.

The Cuisine Umpire says: "Three Strikes and You're OUT!"…read moreHere's the third Yelp I've done about "Mission BBQ" and I'm afraid the Mission was NOT accomplished. The last time we went to one, (In Naperville, IL q.v. my Yelp for it), We were totally bummed as it was a truly disappointing feed, bordering on the inedible: A piece of "Prime Rib" not ready for prime time, adipose pulled pork, and ribs with bone shrapnel. Ug. We had to pick up Grandson and Date from Six Flags Great America down the road, and we were early enough to wedge dinner in before we were expected at the park. Nothing else looked appetizing in the stretch of Illinois 132 just west of G.A., so we figured the last time at Mission was SO awful, it had to be a fluke, and this store should CERTAINLY be better. It wasn't. We both had "2 meat" plates- I with Ribs, Sausage and Wife had Ribs and pulled pork. We both had slaw and fries. The pulled pork was the least offensive of the proteins. This time, it was the opposite of last time--not so fatty, and not so flavorful either. Dry and insipid. The Sausage was mushy and strangely lacking in real flavor. And the goddamned Ribs were the same ineptly butchered mess we ran into in Naperville. Shards of Bones at the top of the cut. Slightly over-smoked/over-cooked as well. WTF? That much of the same criticism of Naperville was in play here made us think this is the way things are served at Mission BBQ and not an anomaly. A mention to the manager wouldn't help things. Now in the "Every theory has a corollary" dept: As in Naperville the slaw, fries and cornbread were pretty good; as was the Iced Tea and fountain drink "throw". The sauces were all pretty good too. Wished there was some decent "Q" to put them on. Maybe it's just our taste, or we are spoiled by "Q" in our visits to the South, but there's no excuse for the lazy butchering of the ribs, or the mushiness of the sausage. I know "corporate" chains tamp down spices in the "come bet" common palates will desire a less bold cuisine, but DAMN! this is BARBEQUE. American Q is NOT a "safe" proposition. This isn't the cuisine to play it safe. Then again, it's not meant as an insult, but Suburban denizens (unless you're a suburb of, say...Austin Texas) prolly aren't in for foods meant to challenge. I see enough 5star Yelps indicating a lot of folks like this place; so I'll assume Wife and I are the outliers. We haven't found a whole lot of Suburban Northern Q supremely edible. The whole mishegoss is a dilemma, as Mission BBQ is deep into honoring our service Men & Women. We are, too. That a portion of the (considerable) cash we left there goes to Service folks soothes at least part of the sting of a lousy feed...

"Old School" customer service, Hospitality and appreciation for our customers is key and loyalty goes both ways friends. I was very interested to try the food here after trying a couple items that were served at a friend's party. I asked to say Hi to the owner as a entrepreneur myself. They said they would be out shortly at my request, being my first time and spending well over $300 to try some of their dishes I was extremely insulted to see that the owner never had the courtesy to say Hello as I waited. In my world, "old school" customer service is success because without customers you have nothing. I also believe that you should always remember where you came from. The food was very pricey for the Area and not worth the disrespect I felt. After this experience I'll stay with Hecky's in Evanston where we are recognized, greeted by name and given a positive everything when I walk in by the owners Daughter, Gigi...RIP Senior. Hecky's is located North Shore with more than fair prices, above par food and traditional style barbecue. Big Ed's is in Waukegan and we paid double plus for the food and a very poor customer service experience ‍ along with overpriced barbecue and sides. I got lots of sauce for not enough barbecue. If I could have cancelled I would have but it was the first time and the last time. I asked one last time "What happened to the owner who was supposedly was going to say Hello?" They said he left through the side door because he was busy. His picture is on a large sign outside and this man was at Aldi when I stopped for apples on the way back home to Arlington Heights. Go to Hecky's in Evanston, Smoque in Chicago, even Joe's Barbecue in Hillside. Good Luck Big Ed!!!
