This used to be a great little place to go to. It was personal, friendly, clean, and the service was great. Hadn't been in awhile and the family and I stopped in and you have to order from a kiosk, which is impersonal, the service was crummy, the place was filthy, our order was messed up, you have to have tickets just to get the coke machine to work,and that didn't work half the time. The kids wanted ice cream and I'm glad we didn't order any. We left and I looked up reviews and saw how gross this place has become. Got 2 shakes here and it tasted like there was something wrong mixed into it. It had a foul and gross taste. Reported it in the Contact Us (but they never respond). Very odd and concerning. I decided to give it a second chance but the place is a joke, incredibly rude young lady greeted me at the window without saying a word to me, i asked what the price was and she mumbled my total. They quickly had my order up this time around expect they managed to completely forget to add the bacon to my bacon cheese burger. Best they could do is have me coke back for a reorder but i live +20 mins away This wouldn't be a big deal expect they always manage to mess up something and be quite rude while doing it. Soooo good. I don't frequent fast food too often and haven't been to SnS in a while. They recently provided an offer for joining their e-club which gives you a free double and fries. After this experience my goto fast food with definitely be Steak and Shake. The burger was so tasty and the shoestring fries were great. Sad to see the decline of the quality, portion size, cleanliness and overall operations of this Steak and Shake location. I've tried to give them the benefit of the doubt that it was an off night, lack of staff, etc. on at least three separate occasions, but no more. The filth that's apparent on the windows and register screen really made me question if I should trust the food safety. I was the only car in the drive thru line, the inside was dark with chairs on the tables. I would be surprised if this store could continue the way they have been for much longer. The milkshakes seemed under filled and had an off taste. The fries were their standard flavor and temperature, so that's where they get one star. The meat of the burger had NO taste. It was bizarre. Stopped by for lunch and had a hankering for a chocolate milk shake as well. Ordered the Frisco Melt combo. What a disappointment. I used to love the melt, what was served to me certainly looked melted, but by no means anything like the melts of old. It was not served on sourdough bread, or sliced, there appeared to be just one patty, and could not tell what type of cheese was used. The sauce was liberally applied to just one side, and was just a melted, greasy mess. The fries were just as bad, because they were extra greasy with so much salt, they could not be eaten without worrying about a visit to the ER. So why the two stars? This location, on San Jose Blvd, is literally the worst Stk and Shake that I have ever been in. It's dirty and disgusting. The staff is very rude. One employee, a female, was behind the counter cooking, on her phone, complaining about another employee. Service is terrible!!! Food: Garlic Double Burger Thinest burger and fries I've ever seen. The garlic butter was a nice touch on the bun and burger. Overall I enjoyed the burger and salt & vinegar fries. I might return for the food, but only for the food. Service: Waited awhile to be seated once we entered. Due to the very open floor plan I could hear one of the kitchen staff tell the servers we were waiting to be seated. We continued to wait. After being seated we waited even longer to have are drink orders taken. When our server finally came to the table she reeked of cigarette smoke. I'll give her credit, when she was at our table she put on her customer service face and was friendly, but ultimately neglectful. As soon as she left the table we knew it would be awhile before we saw her again. The wait for food and the check was long. Drink refills were only offered as we were getting up to pay at the front counter. Facility: The restaurant has a very open floor plan. One can easily see into the kitchen and the severs drink station is 'hidden' behind a half wall. It all makes it very noisy and hearing the servers talk about customers as they fill drinks was annoying. The cleanliness is below average with finger print smudges all over the walls, grimy chairs, and thick layer of dust on the neon signs above the front counter. Stacks of dirty dishes and glasses were left on the next table over the entire time we ate. No one seemed to care the table hadn't been bused for over an hour. It seems like the staff are poorly managed and have given up. the interior has been neglected to the point that it shows. Not sure how often I will eat here in the future. read more

I can't stand steak and shake's fries. They are so dang thin and have to grab a handful in order to satisfy a "fry bite". With that being said - I think the fries go amazingly well with a side of melted cheese sauce. I usually go for a Royal burger. I mean who doesn't like a burger that has an egg, bacon, and cheese in it? Drenched in fat if I might add. Best after drinking food ever.
