Significant improvements over previous visit. Upon entering, it was pleasantly evident that the store was clean. I'm still not a fan of kiosk ordering regardless of what restaurant they are at, personal interactions are a key here, I remember when there were servers here years ago. In my opinion they did not have the best customer service here, but luckily you do have the option to order from a kiosk , which we did . Unfortunately, when they gave us our food they had forgotten one of our orders of fries and when we asked for it, the first employee said no. I was kind of shocked but another employee told him just to give us the fries. It was super weird. Like, the receipt is on the bag my man and it says three fries, there are two fries in the bag. Huh? I would recommend as little interaction as possible with the staff and your visit should be okay. They need to update their posters as well; we came the second week of November and they had posters all over for some Labubu giveaway that ended in October. Something else they could definitely work on is labeling their products . The burgers don't say what they are on the outside. Most places have stickers or labels on the packaging, but here, everything looks the same. This leads to confusion about which Burger belongs to which person and other people opening up the food wrappers, which is just not hygienic. Label the food. I like the thin style of the fries here, but they are really bland . Luckily they offer seasoning which you can sprinkle on to make the price taste better. I really wish they made garlic fries hear because their garlic burger is fantastic and unique and I highly recommend trying it if you haven't had one. I live nearby and have been to this location many times. While the food is most always fresh and hot, 90% of the time no one greets you in the drive thru, forcing you to have to go inside or, they greet you and tell you that you must come inside because their "drive thru system is down." The inside is always disgusting. The workers are unprofessional and one time, instead of taking orders, one of the workers was too busy plugging in his portable speaker and scrolling through a playlist. This used to be awesome, but since Covid and now having to order everything from a kiosk, it's just not the same. The atmosphere was sad. It wasn't busy, but also the floors and some tables weren't clean. The kids liked their shakes, but the soda machine wasn't properly adjusted. Every flavor I tried was like club soda. Plenty of carbonation, but not enough syrup to have it sweet. The burgers, fries and onion rings came out warm -- not hot. The small onion ring servings are pathetically small. They need to bring back servers and have service. Steak-N-Shake of 50 years ago would be to die for. Steak-N-Shake of 10 years ago would be great. Disappointed all around. There is zero service. No waitress, no floor workers, no one to clean tables (every table was dirty, ever!). My wife had some antibacterial wipes, so we used that to clean us a table off, while I think it's the manager who watched us. The food was just ok. No napkins to use. Asked for ketchup and got a 2 ounce cup with about a half of an ounce in it, so it only lasted through about 4 French fries. We laughed so hard at how they were rationing the cheapest condiment in the world. My advice to the owner is to lock the door and sell the building to a used car lot, because it is a terrible experience. read more

So I have such fond memories and wanted to give it another try after years of not having it. In general, it was the same as in the past. First off just to be clear if I had gotten the food I received and I was dining in or even picking up this would have been a much lower review. Now we had order food through Uber eats and our driver got lost but it made the wait even longer. Now that isn't Steak' n Shakes daily it's more on the 3rd party. I ordered the Frisco Melt and Cheese Fries. The Frisco Melt was good but had lost a lot of the crisp in the toast and the wrapper it came in was extremely greasy.My Cheese Fries were ok as well but a little soggy not not nearly as bad as the other people's food who's regular fries were extremely cold and soggy. I'm a big Steak' n Shake fan but maybe getting food from them through Uber eats isn't the best way to get it. Especially if your driver gets lost with your food. On a very positive note, this is a great place to sit and spend some time with your family after watching a movie next door. Let's face it. There's nothing around that's very close or convenient for the purpose of hanging out for coffee. When everyone in our small gathering lives at the opposite ends of Jacksonville (885+ mi²), Steak 'n Shake works. We were all pretty full with the movie popcorn, but my mom and I ordered a double-cheese burgers with fries anyway. She also saw the ad on the wall for a milkshake with M&Ms so she ordered that, too. My sister got the Wisconsin burger and added bacon plus a vanilla milkshake. And my other sister and BIL just got bottomless coffees. Price: All of our entrées were about $4 each. Our total bill was about $26 minus the tip. Nice. Food-wise: My burger was great! It was juicy and flavorful with all of the condiments requested. Unfortunately, my fries were room temperature and not hot enough for me to enjoy. My mom and sister were pretty quiet while eating their burgers and when I looked back, their plates were empty. I guess they both liked their meals. And the coffees were fresh and hot. To be sure, the diner was surprisingly busy on a Sunday afternoon. The service was at a turtle's pace and no one seemed to be in a big rush. For this trip, we were spending quality family time and really wanted a place close enough to just sit and visit with each other. Overall, this Steak 'n Shake gets 4-Shiny Stars. I have been coming here for years, and it was pretty great when it opened. The last few years I have only gone once during the holidays as it is slow and a good meet up place for some friends. Around New Years this year, however, it got pretty bad. We had the misfortune of being part of a waitress's breakdown. We didn't see the waitress for most of the night and 3 tables walked out on her. I love steak and shake! Something about the griddle "fried" patty. I say that because the way it cooks in it's own fat and juices on the flattop and it gets the little crunch edges is almost like they have been fried. I go to this steak and shake a lot for cheap burgers, and it's not bad. When I come in I wait to be seated and the staff are usually pretty nice. However, every time I have came in the tables and seats have been dirty. We'd wait for someone to clear it off to be seated. One of the servers, Josh, really stood out to me. He gave great service, cleaned the tables AND seats (we've been seated with crumbs all over the seats), and even offered my sister and I free milkshakes because they had accidentally duplicated an order. He made sure we had everything we wanted before leaving us with our food, and still came back with refills. He just has a really great attitude and definitely knows how to treat his guests. So this place is a regular for us, especially after watching a movie at Regal. But this time - what the heck? Ordered the upcharge of garlic Parmesan fries - which they forgot. Instead of remaking them, the waiter brings out some weird yellow powder and says just dump it on the fries. What a sad, sad meal. Not to mention the horrible service and the arrogant manager. It's been a while since we'd been to a Steak 'n Shake, so we told the waitress when she approached us the first time to order that we'd need a bit to look over the menu (and even told her because it'd been a while and they had a lot of new items on the menu). She proceeded to approach our table about every 30 - 60 seconds after that to ask if we were ready to order. Annoyed the heck out of us. On the upside, we're thinking we'll get good service if she's that gung-ho, right? Heh! We ordered and our food came out kinda quickly. I ordered my fries with cheese and they had like three drops of cheese on them (I was charged .49 cents extra for these three drops of cheese). I looked over at my friends fries and she ordered her cheese on the side and got a full cup. I mentioned this to the waitress and she did bring me out a cup of cheese. And that was pretty much the last time we saw her. My friend wanted to order something else and had to flag her down. Hubby had to flag her down for one refill and one refill was all we got. The burger was just 'meh.' I know the burgers here are greasy and I expect that, but mine was really greasy. My fries were ice cold and I only ate a few of them. Food was bad, service was bad. When we got ready to leave, we stopped another server to ask for togo drinks because our server was MIA (surprise surprise). He brought them about 5 minutes later, but brought lids that didn't fit. My friend got up and asked for a manager (he looked like the was about 20) and asked if we could get cokes with no ice with lids that actually fit. He brought them out pretty quickly, but had ice in them. I called him over again and told him she had asked for no ice. As he walked off, he turned around and looked at me and said, "I wasn't informed they were to be with no ice." Effin' really, dude? First of all, I HEARD her ask you, so basically he was calling us both liars? Second of all, you're the manager and in an afterthought you're going to turn around and say that to me? Just get the damn drinks!! She even told him about the horrid service we had. Did we get one apology? No! When he came back to the table with the drinks, he had an attitude when he sat them down and said, "Is that all?" My friend asked him if he was really the manager because frankly, we couldn't believe it. She then got his name, which I put in a quick tip. Congratulations Steak and Shake! You've really out done yourselves... And not in a good way! Where oh where do I start??? I know... First off the service was some of the worst I've experienced... EVER!! Upon sitting at a table it seemed as though our waitress was going to be attentive...well.. appearances can be deceiving!! I mean come on...our service went from one extreme to the other... I had to flag someone else down for refills.... Is that all??? No... He brought to-go drinks with the wrong size lids! Really??? Are there that many different sizes that you couldn't get the correct size? The guy took off before I could ask for the right lids...ummm yeah... Am I suppose to use these as coasters??? After that oh-so-delightful meal at Johnny Rockets in Atlanta, I was craving some good ol' diner grub, so I went here. Steak N Shake makes a great effort to add creative burgers to the menu and their shakes are always delicious and thick. However, their choices in burgers and shakes don't amount to the menu at JR. I do, however, need to give Steak N Shake credit for the Royale Steakburger which came with fried egg in the sandwich and bacon and cheese. (I always get fried egg on my burgers at Pat LaFrieda's Custom Burger. Now if Steak N Shake had Russian sauce on their burgers then I wouldn't need to reminisce so much about Custom Burger.) On a weekday around lunchtime, the wait at Steak N Shake is 10 minutes from line to order. Then you wait another 15 min for your food to get to you. The Royale Steakburger was pretty tasty and the Butterfinger shake was thick and delicious as always. By the way, from 2am-4am and 2pm-4pm, their shakes are half off and they have all-you-can-eat pancakes for $3.99. 3 1/2 stars rounded up. read more

A Christmas miracle happened.... I sat down, ordered my food, and received it in a timely manner... of course, it was midnight and the place was empty as opposed to any other time when there is 3 or 13 tables with customers and the place goes bananas then the wait time for service and food extends greatly. Shortly after I received the meal the manager figure got into an argument with a waitress about tips... this went on for a while... Then - everyone decided to take a smoke break outside which is fine, except something in the kitchen was beeping loudly for like 10 minutes straight while everyone went outside. The icing on the cake... right before I paid, I went to the restroom and it was filthy. Like insane urine smell, sticky floors - NO SOAP!!!! As I paid at the counter I told the manager that the men's room needed some great attention. She responded "yeah, the women's restroom Is bad too". Crazy. One star. We had to ask twice for kids waters after ordering and it came with warm water and 3-4 pieces of ice. Shakes came 30 minutes later. Shakes were made by the manager.
