Ever since COVID, it feels like they rebuilt the entire experience around making things harder for the customer--especially if you're dining in. You walk in and there's no real service anymore, just kiosks and confusion. Orders take forever, and when they do come out, there's a good chance something's wrong or missing. That's been my experience more than once, not just a bad day. The last visit really sealed it--long wait, incomplete order, and no sense that anyone was actually managing the place. It's slow, unreliable, and just frustrating start to finish. I don't mind a simple setup, but it still has to work. I drove through on a Monday for lunch. I had limited time on my lunch hour running errands and actually eating lunch. The drive thru moved super quick with 2 cars in front of me. I got a burger and fries. The fries were incredible fresh. Probably the best Steak n Shake fries I've ever had. The burger was on par with expectations. The two items were about $6.50. My husband and I made a Saturday afternoon visit. We were surprised by the empty parking lot but also happy we wouldn't have to wait for a table. We noticed the restaurant no longer has servers. You order on a large touchscreen and pay for your food. A self-serve soda machine and condiment station is also available. I got the single cheeseburger with fries, my husband the double cheeseburger with fries and we grabbed a side of onion rings. I couldn't resist an Oreo milkshake! Surprisingly my fav item was the onion rings. They were nicely breaded and crunchy. Our fries weren't hot and the cheeseburger neither looked or tasted like a smashburger. The texture and taste was closer to bulk burgers you'd grab at the grocery store for a family cookout. The staff was in the background cooking or periodically announcing food. They weren't bussing tables or the soda station, and so I found the least dirty table to clean it off before sitting down to eat. This definitely takes away from the dining experience - and after seeing the main floor I immediately made a mental note not to visit the restroom. I'm not confident we'll be back anytime soon. There's better burgers in town that remind me of the nostalgia of Steak & Shake. I also wouldn't do takeout here, especially with their shoestring fries which get cold quickly. My daughter went through drive thru on 11/26/25. The drive thru employee took her credit card and did not give it back and proceeded to buy himself lunch with her card. She went back into store and had to demand to get her card back, as the employee pretended not to have it. He ultimately gave it back, but not until he had fraudulently used her card. DO NOT use credit cards at this restaurant! They hire criminals. read more

7:30 on a Saturday and they already shut down over half of their dining room with chairs on the table. 3 different drinks out on their soda machine, which you don't find out until after you purchase your drink. They got rid of their self serve ketchup pumps, so now you have to ask the inattentive staff who acts like helping customers is a chore. The fountain machine ice dispenser definitely has a lot of bacteria growing on the part you can see. You know the ice machine in the back has got to be worse. If the staff can't even clean this, which every customer sees, you know they aren't being clean in the kitchen; I'm willing to bet there's plenty of health code violations. The first time I ate here after reopen I got food poisoning. This is my second visit as I wanted to give them another chance. Once again, a 24-hour Steak n' Shake saves the day when time is short and only fast food drive thus are open. The employees here were pleasant and helpful. My husband and I both went for the TRIPLE CHEESEBURGER, which is amazing and great for if you are truly hungry. The fries came out fresh and hot. Eat them first before they get cold! I feel bad for the servers who work here because they always seemed stressed out. At this location in particular, we asked our waitress how she was and she just responded with "miserable." The food is good, I will give it that. It is low quality and nothing that special, and it's hella cheap. But nothing I would wait super long for. 3rd time visiting this Steak n Shake and I've definitely got some great news. The first two times were an absolute disappointment. They took close to an hour to bring us our first the first time and I swore I'd never return. I sense they've gone through a small hiring cycle to get new employees in because they were blazing quick this time. We were seated within 2 minutes of walking in and our order was taken maybe 3-4 minutes later. At this point first visit we were still waiting to be seated. We ordered our food and it didn't take more than 6 minutes to arrive which is absolutely nuts considering this place has a reputation to take a while to serve their customers food. I ordered two orders of the chicken tenders and fries and like just about always it did not disappoint at all. The waitress was quiet and mainly kept to herself but did get our orders taken and out quickly. Biggest downer was I got no refills to my water which kinda sucked. We were there for close to 30-40 minutes and I did not receive a single refill. Though the waitress was very nice when my girlfriend noticed they got her the wrong shake, she went back and got her the right one fairly quickly. I rarely use restaurant restrooms but I needed to pretty bad and I do want to say their restroom was a mess. Toilet paper everywhere, toilets and stalls not clean and the paper towel dispenser didn't work. Not the greatest restroom endeavor but again this is why I don't typically use restaurant restrooms. I do commend this place though, they've improved a good amount over the last 2 visits and had I reviewed them then it would've been a completely different outcome.
