Twice now I have tried to order to go food and each time it is soooooo difficult, I give up and go somewhere else. I will NEVER use the app they keep pushing and the website would never let me put in payment info. My 1st time at a Steak 'n Shake....kind of confusing because no staff takes your order, just kiosk's & no ability to pay cash! My husband had been to a Steak 'n Shake years ago in Minnesota I think ,(don't quote me on that !)...anyhow it was kind of busy so we had to wait about 15 minutes or so for our order. The burgers were just OK! The cheese fries were just OK! There were 3 employees...1 was cooking burgers, 1 was cooking the fries & assembling the orders & 1 lady who was giving the drive through orders out...if there were other employees I couldn't see them! So while we were waiting, the employee closest to the counter where everyone orders sneezed pretty hard 2-3 times...no hand over his mouth because he was wearing gloves, but he would openly sneeze away from the grill & food. but still kind of gross! I know sneezes happen, but not a good thing! The burgers were like I said just OK, we shared cheese fries..not that great....little fries with what looked like melted velveeta cheese over them! There should be a sign when you walk in that directs people to the kiosks & a brief explanation about how to go about ordering! I had 2 or 3 people asking me how to order & I didn't work there ! As we are gluten free we ordered without the bun, but I think we made a mistake on my husbands order because it came out with a bun....the man who was assembling food saw that I looked kind of confused & asked if OK...I said we messed up & did not want the bun, so he said no worries & can fix it for you & he was super nice about it. I ordered a double steak burger with double cheese with added lettuce, tomatoes, and grilled onions. I did find the burger to a bit salty, and I was underwhelmed. The fries that came with it were excellent, and find Steak 'n Shake to have the best French fries out of any burger chain in the country. Prime example of poor management! First time at one of these franchises and boy howdy, so disappointing. We had an hour before the premiere of Marvel's End Game at the Regal Cinema and wanted to give this place a try. But as soon as we walked closer to the entrance, our trepidation started to set in. There were outdoor tables and chairs but nobody was seated as they were all filthy and the one by the front door even had trash and spilled milkshake on the table and cement below. By the appearance of dried milkshake, it had been that way for some time. Then the airlock entryway had dirty glass and spilled stuff on the door. Ew. But we plunged forward to be greeted by a vapid teenager who showed us to a table to sit at but didn't give us menus nor offer to get us drinks. A few minutes go by and she returns to take our orders but we pointed out that we weren't provided menus and as it was our first time in the establishment, we had no idea what they offered. Silly girl giggled and apologized and gave us menus. We each decided on the original double burger with cheese and a side of fries. Fifteen minutes go by and still no food. The place was not busy so we were really confounded by the delay. Lots of employees milling about, but nobody really doing anything. No sign of management and our server is wandering aimlessly and our drinks were empty. Hubby is getting peeved. Our food finally arrived and it was the wrong order! Server gave us the original bacon double and not what we asked for. Oh My Gosh! How difficult is it to write the information down? Another 10 minutes go by while our order is corrected and we get our burgers. Hardly any fries but we're hungry and out of time so we gobble down our food and were surprised by how tasty the little burgers were. The shoestring fries were over cooked and hard, but by that time we took our bill to the front and paid in cash. I came here because literally all other Steak 'n Shakes in my area have closed, and I think I now know why. You order at a kiosk, which is quick and easy, and I ordered a vanilla shake, double cheeseburger and fries. The service was absolutely glacial. The kitchen staff said they were backed up, but there are two cars in the drive-thru and perhaps eight guests inside. After waiting for over 25 minutes to get my burger, it was both given to me on a dirty tray with dirty water droplets and bits of other burger orders on it, and my burger was room temperature - so obviously no one bothered to call me up to get it until long after it was ready. As an aside, the interior was... not clean. No one wiped down a table in the 45 minutes I was there, all the napkin dispensers are empty but there is a pile on the counter, the plastic forks and knives are individually wrapped for cleanliness but the plastic spoons are not and are in a bin people have obviously been pawing through, and the trash cans are full, requiring you to force your garbage into them. The fries are still wonderful and the shakes exemplary, but it's clear why locations are closing. In short, go for the fries and shakes, but get your burger elsewhere. read more

Everything about this place is disappointing. I placed a mobile order for a burger and fries 15 minutes prior to my arrival and was notified my food would be ready within 5-10 minutes. When I arrived, I was told the restaurant had "run out of fries" and that they had yet to prepare my order. I was offered potato chips as compensation for the fries and was offered a free drink for the wait. While waiting I started noticing how disgusting the restaurant was. The fountain drink machine had soda splattered EVERYWHERE. 4/8 of the drink choices had run out of syrup, making my free drink worthless. There were no cleaned tables in the entire restaurant. While walking out of the store, I noticed the front door handle was greasy and that the door stuck from opening at first making a peeling noise from the seal. The box my burger was in had greasy and condiment covered fingerprints all over. My burger was greasy and tasted like pickles even though there were none on the burger. Honestly, as I type this out I feel sick to my stomach that I still ate my burger. Thankfully the potato chips are sealed in a bag although the bag is covered in finger gunk too. None of the employees are happy to be there. You can see it in their faces and it's obvious by the lack of care for their product and store. It's fast food. I don't recommend the chili, however, I DO recommend the garlic double cheeseburgers. The cheesey meaty factor is at outweighs getting stouffers lasagna at home and 10x. We were there on New Year's Day 2024 and it wasn't that busy! It's pretty fun, makes a good pokestop with a gym nearby. Nearby shopping too, but it's not in a great location for walkers. They don't make vegetarian food but I was ok with that. Putting garlic on a burger is a great idea!!! read more

I'm giving a 2 star for this place due to cleanliness.This place is dirty. Floors needed to be swept and mopped. Also, the curtains has ketchup splattered on them and stains. The staff is pretty friendly overall. they all aren't dressed the same though some were out of uniform wasn't very consistent. They might be understaffed but this place needs some major TLC. Took a whole 30 minute lunch break to get one Frisco Melt... which ended up cold and soggy horrible experience

Rats anyone? I went to this establishment today around 11:00 to have lunch with my husband. When we walked into the restaurant it smelled like wet dog. (Btw Steak 'n Shake was my favorite place to eat, until today). We ordered our food and it surprisingly did not take as long as it usually does. We ate our food then paid and left. While walking to our car my husband noticed a dead decomposing rat laying next to the restaurant. This is so gross, how do we know that we are even eating chicken? Am I at risk now of catching leptospirosis, hantaviruses, rat bite fever, and lymphocytic choriomeningitis virus (LCMV)? I will never eat here again which is very sad because I used to love their food until today despite the long waits we usually have to eat here. Save your money and eat somewhere that is clean and has shorter wait times. read more

I really use to love this place. I haven't been in a few years and was near by so I stopped. Unfortunately it will be the last time. The servers are gone and they still want a tip at check out. The soda machine was out of ice. The ketchup dispenser was so dirty and looked like it hadn't been cleaned in weeks. Food was not good and the prices went up. I got a butter topped burger that the bun was cold and had a thick layer of cold butter topping smeared on it. Floor was dirty, tables were dirty, bathroom were dirty. Floor was so greasy. Todays adventure started out like any other. I ventured into new territory for me which is known as the city of Sheridan. Upon my travels I spotted a rare specimen. The Carnis ac quassum or more commonly known as Stake 'n Shake. While common in my native land of the Midwest, its was interesting to see such a sighting here since this particular creature is not known to migrate this far west. From a distance I could make out its distinct white, black, and red markings, coming in for a closer look I noticed it was surrounded by the native population requesting a type of food and in exchange offering what could be considered the local form of currency. Intrigued, I too entered the long line which I learned was called a "drive thru" since the main entrance was closed. Long I waited, and when I finally came to head of the line, it spoke! miraculously I was able to understand and communicate with it. Such a disappointment. I used to live in TX and we would get milkshakes here growing up. However, last night when we went through the drive through at this location we had a very poor experience. We waited in line for literally 40 minutes. We knew starting out in the line that it would take a while but not THAT long. When we finally got up to the window I could see our order sitting on the counter, 2 milkshakes and free fries, and after taking our payment the man at the window spent time chatting with a co-worker then finally realized we were still there waiting? Got home to see our milkshakes were very runny, probably melted, and cold fries. We only live 5 min away. Assume that our order was done and sitting there for the whole time we were waiting. Then I tasted my Nutella milkshake. It tasted like vanilla with a hint of something, but definitely not Nutella. Had to add my own chocolate sauce to make it worth drinking. Such a bummer. Been wanting to try this place out for a while. We don't live that close yet we get coupon flyers in the mail all the time, guess Steak 'n Shake wants us to come try them badly too! :-) I like how retro and new the place feels at the same time, a great family setting. Your mood is lifted as soon as you walk in. Beware of the flimsy tables though, they look A LOT sturdier than they actually are. We had a pretty good sample of the fixings: - Frisco Patty Melt with fries (loved the famous sauce and the McD-like fries, but they could've used better bread than supermarket sandwich toasts...) - Wisconsin Buttery Burger with "upgraded" fries (on the menu picture, these "fancy" fries take on an orange hue and so I thought they were sweet potato fries! Turned out they were just regular fries sprinkled with an orange seasoning that's widely available at each table, don't fall for it like me! The butter topped burger was pretty good, hubby thought it was a little too greasy... I'll have to compare it with the Jack in the Box new butter burger!) - the new Red Velvet Cake shake is awfully pink. I would've preferred a darker red color. It tastes OK but one shouldn't hold the hope that it won't taste artificial 'cause it does. It is HUGE though. Will I be back again?
