This isn't the Steak and Shake I grew up with in the South. This location is a shadow of what I hoped for. No wait staff, no cashier, no "how ya doin' honey, welcome to Steak and Shake what can I get started for you?" It's order by kiosk, no chocolate malts available, no sundaes in tall glass glasses. You have to scan a QR code to get the coke dispenser to work. I came for the beef tallow fries and a great cheeseburger and a chocolate malt down memory lane. I got a thin burger, not enough time in the grill for a Maillard char in the beef, and a chocolate shake in a styrofoam cup. The restaurant was set to sub-60 degrees Fahrenheit, maybe to cool down the cooks working the grill but the dining room is an icebox. $7 for a mediocre shake when you have a malt on the mind...you get the idea. I guess I need to be back in Central Florida for a real Steak 'n Shake experience. Not the spot I hoped to relive bygone days with my folks. read more

Welp, where do I begin. The non-greeting as my son and I walked in or the staff completely goofing off while the dining room was trashed by prior customers or the fact that once we placed our order for 2 garlic burger combos with vanilla shakes we waited for 25 minutes for us to get our order. This place lacks professionalism and leadership and it is obvious the second you walk in. I would say next time I come, but honestly there wont be a next time. With In & Out or 5 guys Im not sure how this place is even open now. I have not been here in years. Since my kids were children really. It hasn't changed minus it's a bit dirtier now. Especially the bathrooms. The service is cold as you order via a kiosk then they simply yell your name out when it's ready. Then you go up and get it. Yet, there is still a "tipping" selection when you order. This makes absolutely no sense to me. My new rule is that if I order standing then have to get the food myself, I don't tip. Ever... The food was over priced and it's still "kids" food in my opinion. An adult would never really be satisfied on even their triple burger. We spent 31 dollars on lunch and left feeling a bit cheated. Just ordered my first and last Steak 'n Shake. Got home (less than 5mins away), opened the bag, and could tell there was no steam rising from anything. Sure enough, this burger is so cold I don't trust eating it. Cheese not melted, tomato is weird tasting, the whole thing is just COLD. What a waste of money. I had wanted to experience some of the good ole burger and malt shop ambiance that S&S used to have. I go back to college days in Gainesville, FL when they would take your order, and you could even sit at the counter and watch the cook smash patties, cook eggs, and the blenderista make shakes and malts one at a time by hand. The last time I had this was only a couple years ago here in Denver, and I went back for another. But was sorely disappointed. Although the place was open, once inside there was a din, that replaced the usual lively atmosphere of waitstaff interacting with customers at tables. I went to grab a seat at the counter, but there were no seats, instead kiosks to place my own order by myself. I was told to place my order by the cook. Wow! What great service. So I worked through the menus, placed my order and took a seat, when after a few minutes I was called back to the counter to pick up my order. I'm not sure why I was prompted to leave a tip when I was expected to place my own order, serve my own food, and even go to a corner of the store to pick up condiments and napkins. About 5 minutes later my milkshake arrived. The food was okay, the shake was good. I miss the ambiance, and experience of sitting at the counter, interacting, and watching the cook and others doing their thing. I guess others felt the same way because it wasn't very busy in there, and for sure, I won't be back. Thanks for ruining one of the last Burger and Malt shops. read more

A mustard and ketchup only steak burger had so much mustard and ketchup that each bite made it spill out from all sides. It was a mess. Fries with no salt had extra salt. Nostalgic memories of S&S were reset by the reality that the quality has suffered and the prices are off the mark. Burgers were skinny and shoestring potatoes were blah. My wife and I stopped in for a late lunch on Sunday afternoon and we were not impressed. Steak'n'Shake has gone out of their way to not hire workers here. At the counter they've lined up self service screens for ordering. No one greets you, no one takes your order. As best I could tell, only two workers were busy cooking food, with no other employees in sight. When trying to find a place to sit, there wasn't a clean table in the place. Crumbs and drink stains on every table, crumbs on the floor, and the self serve drink station was a mess. The bathrooms needed attention too. Some may think that the food being ok and the friendliness of the staff should bring this rating to a 3 but when you cant cover the basics of a clean eating area you will never get a 3 or higher. I drove 45 minutes across town, because I missed having steak and shake. What an absolute dump. The inside is actually nasty. I could tell by looking at the floor it hadn't been swept or mopped in days maybe weeks. There's even stains all over the blinds. The burgers are nothing like you remembered. It is atrocious and should be shut down by the city. There's definitely some health code violations. read more

Sheridan, CO location In February 2025 i came to Steak and Shake for the first time. I watched T. T Tammy on You Tube with her Muckbang and it really seemed like a good place to try. I ordered the things Tammy ordered because she raved about them. I kept saying the whole time to my husband, Tammy's food Looked so good, this stuff does not resemble hers at all.? And it did not taste good. I was disappointed in the food. In addition the tables were unclean, the floor unclean, we were the only customers inside the place. There were two young men in the kitchen. I do not believe i will return. it was a long drive to get there and the food was not worth the trip or the money. Ordered cheeseburger and fries to go. I appreciate how nicely packed this was to go. The lettuce, tomatoes and other condiments were placed separately so my burger and patty did not get soggy. I also really like that nothing was too oily or greasy. Not even the fries! The fries were too thin for my liking but I do appreciate the crisp. I also think it would have been better fresh. The burger though was much better than a McDonald's or even Five Guys. The buns were soft, the patty was big, tender and juicy. My 1st time at a Steak 'n Shake....kind of confusing because no staff takes your order, just kiosk's & no ability to pay cash! My husband had been to a Steak 'n Shake years ago in Minnesota I think ,(don't quote me on that !)...anyhow it was kind of busy so we had to wait about 15 minutes or so for our order. The burgers were just OK! The cheese fries were just OK! There were 3 employees...1 was cooking burgers, 1 was cooking the fries & assembling the orders & 1 lady who was giving the drive through orders out...if there were other employees I couldn't see them! So while we were waiting, the employee closest to the counter where everyone orders sneezed pretty hard 2-3 times...no hand over his mouth because he was wearing gloves, but he would openly sneeze away from the grill & food. but still kind of gross! I know sneezes happen, but not a good thing! The burgers were like I said just OK, we shared cheese fries..not that great....little fries with what looked like melted velveeta cheese over them! There should be a sign when you walk in that directs people to the kiosks & a brief explanation about how to go about ordering! I had 2 or 3 people asking me how to order & I didn't work there ! As we are gluten free we ordered without the bun, but I think we made a mistake on my husbands order because it came out with a bun....the man who was assembling food saw that I looked kind of confused & asked if OK...I said we messed up & did not want the bun, so he said no worries & can fix it for you & he was super nice about it. I ordered a double steak burger with double cheese with added lettuce, tomatoes, and grilled onions. I did find the burger to a bit salty, and I was underwhelmed. The fries that came with it were excellent, and find Steak 'n Shake to have the best French fries out of any burger chain in the country. I came here because literally all other Steak 'n Shakes in my area have closed, and I think I now know why. You order at a kiosk, which is quick and easy, and I ordered a vanilla shake, double cheeseburger and fries. The service was absolutely glacial. The kitchen staff said they were backed up, but there are two cars in the drive-thru and perhaps eight guests inside. After waiting for over 25 minutes to get my burger, it was both given to me on a dirty tray with dirty water droplets and bits of other burger orders on it, and my burger was room temperature - so obviously no one bothered to call me up to get it until long after it was ready. As an aside, the interior was... not clean. No one wiped down a table in the 45 minutes I was there, all the napkin dispensers are empty but there is a pile on the counter, the plastic forks and knives are individually wrapped for cleanliness but the plastic spoons are not and are in a bin people have obviously been pawing through, and the trash cans are full, requiring you to force your garbage into them. The fries are still wonderful and the shakes exemplary, but it's clear why locations are closing. In short, go for the fries and shakes, but get your burger elsewhere. read more
