The last time I went to Steak and Shake was interesting. I bought two shakes. Nutella and Banana, I was sipping on my shake as soon as I got it through the Drive-Thru (as I had been craving a shake all day). I felt a little bubble or weird texture in my mouth, at first I thought it was a clump of Nutella, maybe even the cherry, but no, it was a fly. I put the flash on my finger to see if it was really a fly and there were it's little legs and what was left of it's remaining body parts. Immediately felt like throwing up and sick to my stomach. I called the restaurant 9 times and 9 times my call was forwarded. I drove into the restaurant (I didn't want to make a scene because it never solves anything) and I showed (assuming it was a supervisor) the fly that was still stuck to my finger and he got me a manager. I showed the manager of the restaurant thinking he would be understanding but while smiling and nervously laughing asked me if I'm sure the fly didn't come from outside because they don't have flies in their restaurant and then asked me to take a look at their kitchen. He asked me if I wanted another shake but I still felt nauseous from how disgusting it was to have a bug in my drink. I felt like he was trying to blame me for the bug, but mind you I had the straw to my mouth since the moment I grabbed it, and the bug came through the straw. The manager got upset that I asked for a refund and scoffed as he lightly chucked the shakes into the garbage. It was a bad experience because I've worked in fast food since I was 16 I did 3 years in the business before graduating and getting an actual career, and I've been a customer to this location for years and I hoped the manager would've been understanding instead of acting in the manner that he did. I felt embarrassed for 1. For having a bug in my mouth, 2. Upset at the way the manager handled the situation as if it were such an inconvenience, 3. Sketchy about ever coming here again. I've only ever had a pleasant experience at this location, although I probably only go once a year. Service is friendly, food is cooked and presented as expected, and they have amazing milk shakes. What more can you ask for? Lol Went yesterday for dinner because I absolutely refused to cook after a long week and my daughter got to pick where we ate. Had some chili to start and it was chock full of beans and meat. Good seasoning to it, as well. My little girl had the Kids Mini Burgers. She loves them. I tried the White Truffle burger. The garlic aioli sauce was good. Biggest complaint here was the mushrooms were obviously canned and a bit rubbery in texture. I like the fries here ... I'm not a big fan of thick fries, so their shoestring style works for me. And only 49 cents for a side of cheese sauce. Was in the restaurant October 26th 5:30 p.m. for dinner with my family after 25 minutes of waiting for the food I start watching the young lady putting our baskets together place our baskets with french fries hamburger toppings the whole nine in the microwave one at a time then on the tray and we're called up. I asked the young lady why did you microwave all of our food her response was do you have a problem with that we do it all the time I promptly asked for a refund. Fast forward 11 days for visits to the store multiple texts and phone calls with the franchise owner trying to get the money refunded back to my card. I pulled up at Steak 'n Shake at about 11-11:30PM and spent at LEAST 15 minutes waiting on a plain burger and a fry. As a quick disclaimer the young gentlemen that was working the window last night was great. He was taking orders AND running them out to cars all by himself. Ppl even had the nerve to send him back in for condiments (and he did it with a beautiful smile)... SO he tells me to pull up in a parking space and wait for my order. So I pulled up ONLY to see 3 Steak b Shake employees standing outside conversing like it's nothing. Honestly I don't know if they were on the clock or off but the fact of the matter is Steak 'n Shake was absolutely swamped and I only saw one guy doing all the work. Granted there had to be a cook lol but the way the young man was moving he probably was cooking too! I was just so disturbed. Finally they tied their aprons up and walked in. I used to work in fast food service for about 3-4 years and I absolutely dislike when team members don't step up and take initiative to help. The good news is my food was hot and fresh, but the bad news is they forgot my ketchup and napkins and pickles, but I was so tired I didn't have the strength to argue about it.
