This was a great visit to Steak n' Shake! The restaurant and our table appeared to be very clean. Our waitress, Lilly, was exceptional she immediately came over and gave us silverware and took our drink order. Additionally, she allowed us to order lunch even though we were a little early. I ordered a Cajun burger with all the toppings an order of fries and a cup of chili. The chili was really was fantastic too, the flavor was delicious. Not to mention it was a very short wait until we all got our food. If I had to take away anything if would be one star because the fries weren't especially hot, but they were still tasty. When I came in I was greeted as every restaurant should if you eat at their establishment. One of the waiters or managers was cleaning. The food came out the onion rings were dripping grease. The chicken tenders were as big as two of my fingers. The fries have been sitting for a while. Second time the came out better. read more

The 1st Asst. Manager, Makenzie at this establishment walks around cursing loudly at no one in general, she states. You can actually hear the profanity at the drive thru as I was standing in the dining room. She needs anger management. I find this behavior totally disturbing. When called out, she got an attitude. Then stop cursing at these teens. The other Burgundy shirt male Mgr. totally aware, stands at the grill without a care in the world and says or does nothing. No accountability. Keep in mind this place staffs mainly teens most in high school at this location. Young impressionable minds are crushed here. This is totally unacceptable behavior by management. The fact that she (Asst. Mgr.) also brings her children to work is another hazard. Let the Managing staff know to HOLD THE PROFANITY! Loud profanity in the workplace is NOT acceptable. I was not happy with what I observed. The steakburger is so greasy, it's nauseating. The Shakes are so rushed, you can't call them shakes. Finally, these teens are severely underpaid for the amount of work they're doing. Being cursed at and yelled at during a shift causes alarm. We went ahead and placed our food order at the same time. The food came out almost at the same time we got our drinks. We had to call the waitress over to refill our drinks as she wasn't to be seen. The horrible thing, who either wanted to be in charge or just acted like it was, that was behind the counter told me my order (which was wrong) was "ethxactly how it wath thupposed to be" when they handed me cold shredded cheese for on a now cold hot dog (that was ordered with cheese) and cold slices of bacon on the side in a box (for two burgers that we'd ordered with bacon) -- we'd gone through the drive thru and when we went back because they messed up the order they told us to come in.... Food: I had the Royale Cheeseburger. It consisted of the bun, burger (2), egg, cheese, and mayo. It was served warm and it was an average burger...nothing that would have me coming back. The fries were served a bit cold. My wife had a hot dog with chili, but the chili was not "hot dog chili". It was more of a chili that you would eat from a pot...lots of beans. Atmosphere: Clean and plenty of seating...our party of five was accommodated well. My family and I liked the windows around the diner that allowed plenty of natural lighting in. We also liked the old diner atmosphere. Customer Service: Quick and very kind. She kept our drinks replenished and our food arrived quickly. The gentleman who rang up our bill was very kind and we appreciated his hospitality. Price: For a burger joint, it is pricey here, so be prepared. It costed my family of five well over $50. Sodas are close to $2.50 a piece, so I would recommend eliminating to save money. Conclusion: 3 Stars. Meh food...great customer service, clean restaurant, but not worth the money. I've frequented this location many, many times over the years since it's opening. Possibly in excess of 100 visits. Two things have ALWAYS remained the same: good food (good, not great), and phenomenally bad service. I've honestly never really been dissatisfied with my food. It has almost always been prepared fresh and correctly once it FINALLY arrives. The problem is that it generally takes anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour to receive any kind of service. You can usually double the time you have waited to place your order before your food arrives. Once it arrives and the server leaves your table, hope that you have everything you need, because he or she will probably not return for what will seem like an eternity. The drive-thru does tend to be a slightly faster option, but... don't be surprised if you burn through a few gallons of gas sitting outside the window waiting patiently for your order. Like I said... my food's always been good, sometimes better than others, it's the service that takes this place out of the running when I'm trying to decide where I'd like to eat. I'm sure after some time passes, I'll forget how bad the service is and stop by again for a reminder... but for now, no thanks. read more

I ordered a #9 and a kids chicken strip meal. I asked for honey mustard for both orders. I pay I get the food and there's no honey mustard in my bag so I kindly let the cashier know. She says "let me see the bag" (with a look on her face like I'm lying) I give her my bag she sticks her bare hand in moves around my food. Shes charging the gift card I tak and as I'm pulling off they all keep antagonizing me all because they forgot the honey mustard touched my food and was offended I no longer wanted to eat there or wait for more "fast food" to be made for me. Their burgers are always fresh cooked to order. The wait is usually minimally taxing but the flavor rich quality of food more than makes up for it. This is my favorite burger and shake restaurant that my wife and I love. Today we were served by Alex (smile Alex) when we got there we got our drinks promptly and placed our order. I had the portobello burger while my wife had the guacamole Burger both were delicious but my wife ran into a problem with her Burger as a bone fragment was in the ground beef my wife bit into. We notified the manager as we left. Above all was a relaxing experience and we did not feel rushed to eat. The building was well maintained and clean and the busing was done properly. My wife had to ask if that was our food before we got it. Out food was cold and the service sucked. We had finished our drink by the time we got our food.
