Got the Steamed Pork Siu Mai, Pan Fried Turnip Cakes and Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll. Everything was delicious. The Siu Mai was spot on. I really liked the way they pan fried both sides of the Turnip Cake. The Noodle Roll wrapper was a little more thick than I am used to but that is probably because it is Taishanese styled (Per Google: Taishan-style rolls are famous for being thick, hearty, and packed with diverse ingredients.). The wait for the food was minimal. Service was very friendly. Parking is available behind the restaurant.

Ordered to go RN1 Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll, RN2 Beef Rice Noodle Roll, and RN5 BBQ Pork Rice Noodle Roll. Each of these rice noodle rolls was a good portion with very soft rice rolls and a good amount of protein inside. The shrimp were full pieces spread across each roll which was pleasant to see and to eat. The beef rice noodle roll was juicy and good strips laid out evenly. And the BBQ Pork was the favorite of the three with that classic bbq pork flavor from the slices cut into the roll; wrapped inside the rice roll. The light soy sauce included with each of these was a lighter soy sauce which pairs well with how light these are and brought their flavors out more.

Stopped by Steam Fresh for a quick bite before a nearby meeting, so this review is strictly based on just two items: the siu mai and the lotus leaf sticky rice. I appreciated that everything is steamed and prepared on the spot. It definitely tasted fresh and not like it had been sitting around. That said, because it's made to order, I had to wait about 20 minutes for my food...which feels long when you're used to the instant gratification of traditional dim sum carts rolling by with ready-to-eat options. The siu mai was solid and flavorful, and the lotus leaf sticky rice was warm, fragrant, and satisfying. Overall, a good experience for a quick stop, and I'd be interested in coming back on a weekend to dine in properly with the family and try more of their menu. Sorry for no photos of the two items...I scarfed it down so quickly that I forgot about it.

Dim sum nowadays is a special treat because it's so pricey. It wasn't always this way. I don't think I'm too picky about dim sum but I do expect certain basics. For example the fillings should be fresh, the portions decent, the look to be appetizing, and for hot food to be hot. Steam Fresh definitely shows promise when it comes to seemingly fresh fillings, decent portions, and temperature. However in the case of the har gow, it looked like it was shredded. The taste was good and I liked how everything was packaged. But to get har gow that was falling apart to me was not great. Overall I liked the friendly staff and was happy that my dishes were cooked to order. Prices are on par with other dim sum places. Har gow (3/5) ample shrimp despite the falling apart wrapped Lo mai gai (3/5) sticky rice and a smattering of meat. I wasn't a fan of the egg yolk but it's a preference thing. Siu mai (3/5) the pork was decent and the overall taste was good Steamed fun w/shrimp (3/5) some shrimp in a steamed rice noodle. Just average Sesame sticky rice roll (3/5) not too sweet, decent black sesame flavor. I'd get this again. Prices are decent. But I guess I'm old school and just expected a bit more for the cost. Service was good! The two ladies working were super friendly and cheerful. The place was empty when I arrived but people eventually trickled in. Parking is great! There's a huge open lot in the back. So getting in and out couldn't be easier. Overall it just a so-so place. I'd probably try other items if I get a craving and happen to be nearby. Today, finally I have a chance to try this new establishment for its breakfast combo. This is a new place while dim sum is its speciality. I tired its breakfast combo. While, it doesn't has much choices but it was delicious. I have its congee and stir-fry soy sauce noodles. Both of these items are delicious. The service was also attentive and good. I will try other items.

The dim sum is excellent. The taste rivals fancier establishments like Lunasia without the same digs or price. I also liked their handmade rice noodles with cured meat. That's the ultimate comfort food. I want to try their rice balls and black sesame rolls next. Food came out super slow though (at least on the day I went).

Everything is made to order, so i placed an order to-go. They said it would take about 15 minutes. This was about 8am, and they didnt have any egg tarts ready so I couldn't order that. They are super friendly and I was able to use the restroom as I waited. The restaurant was just opening so it was super quiet and no one was dining in just yet. They gave me everything I needed to eat it on the go.

We were craving for dim sum but didn't want to wait at restaurant so we went to the Steam Fresh in Monterey Park today. However, when we tried to order some dim sums and most of the dim sums were not available. (Such as steamed pork BBQ bun, egg tart, fried turnip cake, sesame roll but all were not available). The server told us that they are going to remove all dim sum on the menu soon but have other Chinese dishes, noodle, congee, etc. It was a little disappointing when she told us this news. Anyhow, we were still able to get the steamed pork Siu Mai, steamed shrimp dumplings x 2 (Har Gow), shrimp rice noodle roll, minced pork lo mein, and Yang Chow Fried Rice of this visit. We also ordered a pot of hot tea and they refilled for us twice. For the dim sum quality, the shrimp rice noodle roll was still not bad; however, we didn't like the soy sauce. For the har gow, the shrimps were big inside but the har gow skin was quite thick. It used to be thinner. Minced pork lo mein was Chinese style and the taste was alright. We all liked the steamed pork Siu Mai with fish roe a lot. They were still very delicious and big. Yang Chow fried rice was also tasted pretty good but we waited for about 15 minutes. It took a bit too long for that order though. The server asked us if we would like to try their other new dishes but we were quite full today. I think that it would be challenging for them if they keep changing the business type. Their food is pretty good but they have to find out what kind of food makes them stand out and then they should stick with it. Honestly, I like their dim sum the most, I used to give them 5 stars review about 3 months ago but now I have to update the review to about 3.5 stars. Hope they will do well after they change their menu.

Dim sum is historically eaten during lunch/breakfast so after finding a dim sum spot that closes at 7PM, I knew I had to give this place a shot. They ran out of the bbq pork buns so we got the curry chicken bun which were really good! The owner even gave us some extra food for the inconvenience and possibly because it was almost 7PM We did an online order and ordered 9 dim sum dishes. Most dishes were delicious and our favorites were the siu mai, har gow, shrimp / chive dumplings. Siu mai was super thicc and had a generous amount of meat with lots of fish roe. I enjoyed the ham sui gok filling a lot but it needed more filling. My least favorite was the spare ribs too little meat. This place is really good with friendly workers and I'd come here again!!

    * Bright, simple ambience. Very nice contemporary Chinese music playing. * Waitresses were very nice and helpful. We ordered in Cantonese. * Food was really good! - Shrimp Rice Roll - didn't have as much flavor as we wanted (perhaps the sauce) but got better as we ate; very good texture though. Will try it again next time. - Chow Mein - very good! Reminded me of the simple HK chow mein flavors. A classic dish and worth ordering. - Fish Ball Soup Noodles - the fish balls were intriguing; never had it with this texture, definitely different from other fish balls in the area. Noodles and broth were flavorful. Worth getting. - Taiwanese Cabbage - this was delicious! Flavorful and crunchy texture. Very surprised by how rich this tasted. Highly recommended! Will return to try again!

The ambiance is nice. The service was great. I don't speak the language, so there was a little language barrier but it's no one's fault. The food was phenomenal! And the prices are so reasonable! I will definitely be back and will recommend to all my friends!

My brother suggested having lunch at Steam Fresh because we don't have turkey plans. Opened earlier in this year, the Cantonese-Chinese restaurant is located off Garvey & Ynez Aves. in Downtown Monterey Park. At the entrance, there's a cute dumpling mascot to the left of the door. The small dining room has 10 tables & booths that seats between 2 - 8 guests, with a unisex restroom in the back. Since the opening, the menu has been revised with a 20% decrease in items to enhance proficiency, particularly items that are more labor intensive. My kids really wanted to try the Sugar Puffs, Creamy Egg Tart, Green Onion Pan Cake, & Chinese Sausage Roll. I was happy to discover some Cantonese cuisine that's familiar & comforting, & our server Wu姊姊 speaks Cantonese so I can practice my mother tongue. There was a couple of dishes that I already picked out: Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Meats & Special Duck Clay Pot from the chalk written specialty menu, & added our staples: Chinese Cruller, Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll, Steamed Pork Siu Mai, Steamed Shrimp Dumpling. I mentioned my parents' province & Wu姊姊 suggested the Stir-Fried Handmade Rice Noodle with Cured Meat. I forgot to bring my own stash of loose leaf teas, & order a pot of Pu-Erh, & a bottled pear juice for the kids to share. The kids enjoyed the pear juice; it was mellow in pear flavor & sweet, but not cloyingly sweet. The pu-erh was decent with a crisp, grassy flavor. You won't see more developed pu-erh tea at standard Chinese restaurants that has a smooth, & more complex woody, earthy flavor, though the banquet restaurants may have a hidden stash of higher grade teas for their preferred customers. We started with my son's fav: 油炸鬼 (Chinese cruller), followed by the steamed dim sum. The cruller had a crispy exterior, & fluffy, airy interior that's not heavy with oil. The rice rolls were tender with plump shrimp that had a bite to them, though it was skimpy with shrimp; with 3 rice rolls, there were 1 - 2 shrimp per roll. The shrimp dumplings & siu mai were pretty large with a generous filling; good flavor, nothing outstanding. The last 3 dishes were the best in the group: Special Duck Clay Pot, Stir-Fried Handmade Rice Noodle with Cured Meat, Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Meats. The duck was tender (that easily falls apart) & savory, but needed white rice as an accompaniment to rich, fatty duck juices. While the handmade rice noodle reminds me of home comfort foods, the chewy noodles were a tad greasy, otherwise, it's a tasty dish that's balanced with smoky, umani cured meats. My fav from the group is the Chinese cauliflower; it has a more delicate, sweeter taste than the standard cauliflower. Topped with wood ear mushrooms, carrots, green onions, onions, & smoky preserved meats, I could barely stop eating this dish even though I was full. I can eat this plate on my own, or maybe 2. Nom, nom, nom delish! Prices are moderate, & dim sum is on the lower side with regular to generous portions. There's been a 5% increase on dim sum, but still cheaper than most dim sum restaurants in SGV, though offerings are limited to 9 items. Menu is broken down by: dim sum, appetizers, congee, rice noodle roll, rice, meat, clay pot, chef's special, noodle, vegetable, desserts, beverages. Fantabulous service... friendly, efficient, & kind; Wu姊姊 warned me about the clay pot's heat & placed it away from the kids so they don't burn themselves. I infrequently dine in SGV, especially when I'm visiting my brother who lives out here, so I definitely will be back at this delish Cantonese restaurant! Recommended: Stir-Fried Cauliflower with Preserved Meats (must have!), Stir-Fried Handmade Rice Noodle with Cured Meat (family fav), Special Duck Clay Pot, Chinese Cruller, Shrimp Rice Noodle Roll (yummy roll but skimpy on filling), Steamed Pork Siu Mai, Steamed Shrimp Dumpling, White Rice, Pu-Erh Tea, Pear Juice with Rock Sugar Drink.

The pro tip is to park across the street from the restaurant in their parking lot and have a drink or two while waiting to be called. We were called that our table was ready and sat under a large tent in front of the restaurant building. Our waitress was very pleasant and when she did not know an answer to a particular question she politely excused herself to seek the right answer rather than give us a wrong answer or information. We were treated to complimentary white tuna and crackers and water served in plastic cups. The tuna & crackers were average and gave us something to pick on while checking the menu. All of us at the table however had an issue with the water. It was tap and even with lemons in our water all of us tasted a very strong taste of plastic. We figured it was from the cups so we immediately ordered a bottle of water before doing anything else. When the bottle of water came out it was served with composite or a hard plastic cup without lemon. So this was crazy but all of us had the same exact experience with the water as well. This certainly had to be a dishwashing or storage issue. Luckily I happen to bring my own glasses in my BYOB bag and everybody at my table used them and the funky plastic taste was corrected. For food we got: The "lux" lobster roll with caviar, twenty oysters and 1 lb of steamers. We also shared the surf & turf roll and the sexy lobster roll. The lobster roll was 10/10. One of the best I've ever had. Seriously. The oysters were very fresh, perfectly shucked. The steamers were great as well. The surf and turf roll, the table agreed was just ok. It was a bit bland. Th sexy lobster roll however was excellent. The service throughout dinner was amazing and our table was waited on promptly the entire service. Dessert was one of the biggest busts I've had in a long time. We ordered two of the crumb cheesecake slices. We rarely do this and usually order different to share and sample.. but all of us agreed we really wanted to have this. The cheesecake itself was pretty good. The crumb topping was not edible. A table behind us with two women also ordered the cheesecake and as well. I won't directly quote what they said, but they each took only one bite and our table had a conversation with theirs. Let's just say we were all on the same page. I would 100% go back for the items that I really enjoyed. Their drinkware situation needs to be checked out.

Pricing breakdown: $8 items: - har gow (4 pcs) - siu mai (4 pcs) - black bean spare rib - pan fried turnip cake - egg custard $9 items: - chicken feet $10 items: - shrimp rice noodle roll I think they no longer have the tripe on their menu anymore bc I couldn't find it on their online ordering. Also their chili oil was priced at $0.98, which was kind of small, I would do without it next time. ---- The parking was really tough, luckily I had another person with me drop me off then I ordered and then we double parked waiting for it to be finished. The inside of the restaurant felt like an elevated dim sum place, things were neat and a darker ambiance which felt more intimate if you decided to eat in. We took ours to-go and it was still so good! ---- Overall: if I'm ever back in Pasadena I'll be sure to stop by for dim sum, classic dishes with an elevated taste, pricey but worth it

Perfect family dim sum experience for us…read more We took out my parents and in-laws for dim sum: my parents' very first time ever. We did wait about an hour, but honestly I didn't mind at all because it gave us a chance to relax, talk, and catch up as a family. Once we were seated, my parents were immediately impressed with the decor: elegant and cultural without feeling overly modern or cold. And can we talk about the tea kettles? They looked like literal pieces of art being poured at the table. Ordering was super easy with the QR code system, so my husband handled the whole spread: shumai dumplings, chicken feet, sesame balls, and more. Everything came out hot, fresh, and beautifully plated. The ENTIRE table agreed on one thing: the chili oil condiment deserves to be sold in bottles to take home. It was that good. Smoky, just the right amount of spicy, and addictive. Now for the real test: my in-laws. They've been to *many* dim sum places and are not easily impressed. They declared this place to have the best chicken feet that they've ever had: meat easily sucked off the bone, melt-in-your-mouth tender, and perfectly seasoned. High praise coming from dim sum veterans. Most importantly, my parents' first dim sum experience couldn't have been better. They loved everything from the ambiance to the food to the overall experience. My husband and I want to come back to explore more of the menu because there's clearly so much more to try

My friends and I were very excited to try this place because of social media! It was overall good…read morebut it wouldn't cross my mind to return We ordered a decent amount of food and our favorites were the beef roll, dan dan noodles, spring roll and sesame balls. Everything else was mediocre and didn't leave an impression on us- other than it was pretty lol I'd probably only come back to order their beef rolls to go because that reallly impressed me

It's alright. They're great in some areas but fall short in others. We tried the pork soup…read moredumplings, pan fried pork buns and beef noodle soup. The good part about the beef noodle soup was the beef chunks weren't too dry nor fatty. The noodles, however, didn't taste like the fresh hand pulled kind you'd find at other restaurants but rather the dried ones you can get at a supermarket (they tasted like the Quon Yick dry noodle). The broth isn't necessarily bland but I think it could have used more flavor. The soup dumplings had a generous filling, but there really weren't much flavors coming from the seasoning. It just tasted like pork and soup. The skin is a bit thicker than what I've seen at other places, but at least they didn't break. I wasn't a fan of the fried buns though. They were fried too crispy to a point that the skin was dry and crunchy and all the fluffiness was lost. Same with the soup dumplings, the filling could have used more flavor. The ones at Kang Kang Food Court would be the clear winner here. For the price, the portions are pretty fair. The menu is very limited, but it's very carb-focused, so it's not a great place if you're looking for alot of protein options. They don't really offer much in the vegetarian department.
