Their family style tofu is still freaking delicious! My FIL (from Hong Kong) is a picky eater and he enjoyed the food here. I'd come for the roast meats, especially the duck. Slap it on rice with some veggies, so delicious. The soy sauce chicken is more ginger heavy than some others I've had but still yummy. I've ordered the salt & pepper wings a few times and I don't really like them, I'm not sure why I keep getting them. There's nothing wrong per se, they just don't look or taste fresh (see photo) and are red and slightly blood tasting inside.

Ho Kee and Sam Woo have the best roasted duck in the SGV. You can't go wrong with either, but Ho Kee has a less hole-in-the-wall feel than Sam Woo if you want to take your date there Har har. This time I ordered their house special tofu (amazing sauce and flavor), and bbq combo bento box. Mmm mm so good!

The food here is really good. The portions are big and everything tasted on point. They give you complimentary rice and fruit. The house special fish filet is really good. The beef udon came in a huge portion and tasted excellent. The texture of the noodles was perfect. The roasted duck was so juicy and tender. The whole meal was perfect. Ivy, our server is amazing. She is nice and hospitable. She was the only server that night but she did her job so well. She hustles, so no one had to wait for her. I loved her so much, I wanted to tip her more. THANK YOU IVY! HAPPY CAFEING!!

A small little restaurant on Del Mar...their roast duck by far is the best in the SGV! Tried majority of their entrees and everything is super tasty. Family run and staff is like your neighbor type of vibe. Location is very small, will be harder to seat large parties. There's 2 round tables for large parties so there will be a wait if it's busy.

My experience here was pretty fun since my large group had a personal room with a karaoke machine! The rooms seem sound proof as well so no worries about singing your heart out! My group got the family meal which came with big portions and the presentation was really nice. My favorite out of the dishes were the tofu based dishes (they were sooo silky) and the meats. Majority of the meats tasted fresh and were marinated well. Service was a bit slow and dishes were getting cleared before the next platter but it was a holiday so that might've been the reason.

Party of 4 went to try Ho Kee Cafe at our friend's recommendation. Ho Kee Cafe has private parking and it has authentic Hong Kong Cafe style dishes. The restaurant is traditional, Hong Kong Cafe style decor. Service is friendly, it's run by one waiter. We ordered Hong Kong Wonton soup, which is good except the soup based is bland. House special fried crispy noodles met expectations. Pork with preserved vegetables seems a bit old. And fish fillet porridge is fish with lots of peanuts - not soft. Overall the dishes are authentic, but you can now get similar quality or better food at other Hong Kong style cafes.

Food: 4/5 Service: 3/5 Ambiance: 3/5 Ho Kee is one of my favorite roasted duck restaurants. Their duck has least amount of fat and taste great. Their lunch special menu is also affordable and good portion. This time I just ordered thru phone and picked up. Highly recommended.

Cantonese Roast Duck (Hong Kong-Style) This is my friend's favorite dish, and it is value for money at this spot! The meat is perfectly soft and tender, while the skin stays beautifully crispy. Highly recommended for anyone craving authentic barbecue!

True comfort best comes in a bowl. These were wise words spoken by...well....me! Whenever my mom and I don't know what to eat we always go back to the basics. Ho Kee Cafe is serving up the best Cantonese food for your money!! The food comes out very quickly even if it's busy! I got the noodle soup with roast duck on the side for $14.95. The noodles have that addicting snap that makes you go in for more. And don't get me started on their roast duck. I absolutely adore how crispy the skin comes out. Even when ordered for take out!!! Together it's the most comforting and satisfying meal to enjoy. The broth isn't salty either and leaves a clean taste. I finished my bowl in no time. Parking is quite easy as they have a lot right next to their establishment. The owners are hard working and the best part is....the peeled fruit served at the end. I mean tell me which restaurant still gives you fresh fruit for dessert?!?! This place can't be beat. Final Verdict: Nourishing (For the belly and soul)!!!

    Orange chicken It's really good!

We came in at a time when it's not crowded. So it's a good thing. Food came out really fast. We also like the Buddha's delight, no photo taken...too late.

Pretty good spot. Their roast duck is a must get. Also tried the wonton noodle soup, which was good. Really liked the Al dente noodles. Service was loud but friendly, a bit chaotic with one person running the floor.

Ho Kee is one of those classic Cantonese restaurant. They offer a wide menu and everything is good at this restaurant. We came for the roast duck, which is a favorite. Everything is very tasty here. The portions are large so expect to bring home left overs. I like trying new items also, because that always brings a new adventure. Parking is limited. Casual. Indoor seating only. Casual. Good service. Please come and create your own adventure.

It was our first time at Tam's and we weren't disappointed at all! Tam's has a breakfast menu with plenty of options. The two of us ordered two breakfast combos and each came with a drink, two appetizers and an entrée. My hubby ordered the cold Hong Kong milk tea, which required a $1 surcharge for cold drinks. I ordered the hot Hong Kong milk tea. Both milk teas were delicious--no complaints at all! We both ordered their jook and for our appetizers, we ended up trying all four options since each combo lets you choose two appetizers. Everything was yummy and the portions were generous enough for two people. If you're a party of three and aren't big eaters, I'd recommend ordering just two breakfast combos. There's a parking lot outside since the restaurant is located in a small shopping plaza, so parking wasn't an issue. I'll definitely bookmark this place for future visits whenever I'm in the area. The staff were friendly and very attentive. They regularly checked on us to see if we needed more water. They also have both indoor and outdoor seating, which was a nice option.

Since my husband and I were in the general area, we decided to get a late dinner on a Saturday night. We walked in around 8:45 pm and were acknowledged by an employee after waiting for maybe 5 minutes asking if we would like a table. But the strange thing was that I had told the the employee who acknowledged me that I wanted a table for 2, he didn't sit us. He looked like he was trying to clean the table but then just walked away... but luckily another employee saw us and asked how many for a table. But anyway, after looking over the menu, we ended up ordering: A11: Fish Siu Mai with Rice Roll, $13.99 prior to tax- I ordered this dish, which was plenty for one person (this dish is found under the appetizer section of the menu). I actually really love rice noodles and also fish siu mai so this was a great combination for me. And the peanut and soy sauce mixture poured all over reminds me of when I had freshly made rice noodle in Hong Kong many years ago. But my husband would prefer the rice noodle not to have any of the sauce (or on the side so he can maybe just dip it if he wanted to). I think this dish could use less of the peanut soy sauce mixture too but I still overall really liked this dish. D9: Grilled Pork Chop with Black Pepper Sauce, $16.99 prior to tax- This dish comes with your choice of either steamed white rice or noodle. My husband decided to have rice. He thought the pork chop was delicious and perfectly cooked. He also really liked the black pepper sauce that he picked to go with the pork chop (I know you can also pick a mushroom sauce but I don't recall if there was a 3rd sauce you can choose from or not). Portion wise, this is more than enough for one person since you are getting 2 pork chops. This is actually one of my mom's favorite dishes to order when she goes to any Hong Kong style cafes too. ----------------------------------- (Total= $34.23 after tax, prior to tip) Service was minimal. I spoke both Cantonese and English (well actually my husband spoke English and I spoke in Cantonese. I am just trying to make myself speak Cantonese more) so you shouldn't really have a problem ordering here. I really like the food and I am glad this place does open late. And it was pretty busy as time progressed while we were here. We also saw a few large groups come in and the staff moving quickly to put tables together to accommodate these big groups. Overall, we had a positive dining experience and would come back.

Finally, I made the journey. And arrived for lunch, on a weekday. To come here and not order their iconic Signature dish, the House Special Newport Style Lobster, would be a sin. Imagine a trip that was almost 40 miles and an hour of traffic (one way), with no reward. It was time to experience the real thing. The signature dish. Walking in solo, I was given a booth. I liked that. On seating, I ordered a beverage to quench my thirst, catch my bearings and breath. Almost immediately, the servers kept bugging me to order. The place was barely 1/4th occupied. Whats the hurry. After all this, I had to repeatedly tell them, that i had already spoken with a server, regarding my order. Just wanted to relax first, catch my breath, sip my beverage. Coming here, I was aware that their tank lobsters would be in the 4-6 pound range. Good for, and ordered by, at least 3-4 people. So when I, as a solo diner, ordered a 4-pound lobster (with no other choice), just for myself, they began to leave me alone and give me more respect. The cut up wok prepared, House Special Newport Style Lobster, arrives wonderfully presented, with heaps of leeks, scallions and jalapenos. My kind of recipe. Truly unique and exceptional. There is no sauce, and only a mild flavor, yet tasty. My biggest concern here was (after reading numerous internet reviews), that the lobster would be rubbery and dry. Not so for me. I lucked out. Problem here is, while there is lots of meat (a 4 pound lobster will yield at the most, about a pound of meat), they do not have, or provide, the essential lobster cutlery, to do justice to this beautiful crustacean. I did ask though. They did not seem to care and told me to use my fork. LOL. Steamed rice is complimentary. So is a soup, with sweet and sour, being the only choice (I did not like this). Either way, my plan was to take leftovers (there was a lot), home, where I possess high class lobster cracking tools. And thank heavens I did. They were most useful, to crack and dig into all the lobster meat, that would have been inaccessible at the restaurant. With additional TLC, the leftovers held up well, to provide several additional lobster meals. Need to go back to try their enticing and reasonably priced variety of lunch specials (more seafood, choices minus lobster). Another sought after box on my list, is now checked.

It was our first time trying the mixed vegetables and orange chicken. The vegetables were fresh, crisp, and flavorful. The dish also included pieces of Chinese sausage and squid. The orange chicken was sliced very thin, and the batter was extra crispy. We enjoyed it, but it's different from the typical orange chicken you'd find at most Chinese fast food restaurants. Restaurant was not busy at the time, our food came out pretty quickly. At the end of the meal, they offered to help pack our leftover food along with sauce, superior service. Food 5/5 -Deep fried salted pig feet, this is a MUST get. I cannot emphasize enough how well executed this dish was, the pig feet came deboned. Skin was thin, crispy but still had a delicate layer of gelatinous fat under that's so addicting and great pairing with the complimentary pot of white rice. The meat was so tender and flavorful, the seasoning is not overwhelming but tasteful enough that keeps you wanting to go back for more. Great portion for sharing, however you may not want to share and just keep it all for yourself. -Salted fish and garlic chicken fried rice, rice was fragrant with the delicate saltiness from the dry aged salted fish. The dish is a combination of fine bits and pieces of fish, chicken and notable amount of ginger. I'm usually not a fan of ginger but I actually liked it for this dish, brought a comfortable level of sharpness to it. But if you really hate ginger, you might want to avoid as they're really fine pieces and would be impossible to avoid. -Sliced beef with Chinese broccoli, beef was tender and full of the wok flame flavor, vegetables were fresh and crunchy, no notes. Ambiance 5/5 -Restaurant was super quiet, I really liked how calm it was in there. Mostly comfortable booths around the perimeter and tables were all separated by clear dividers. My favorite was the bathroom's decor, it felt like an early 90s metal/futuristic ocean theme.

First, my favorite thing about this place is how proactive they are about refilling your iced tea. Love it. Their food is really good. They have some dishes that others in their category (e.g., Kim Tar, Newport, Boston Lobster) don't have, and most everything we've eaten was pretty good. It doesn't take long for the food to come out, though they are stingier than you'd expect when it comes to the amount of white rice given. Of the unique offerings, my kids' favorite is probably the bubble waffles, which they give out complimentary at the end of the meal. The weird thing though is between the two visits, I learned they give the same amount -- one -- whether the dining group has 6 people or 12 people. Stingy. Price-wise, they are definitely at the top end of their category. I don't think it's close to being worth it especially given the quality of their competition, but to each his own I guess. I do like that you can make reservations here, and parking is super easy.

If you know, you know. Forget standing in a line long enough to finish 8 Mile waiting for the "real" dim sum experience-this spot is too busy quietly running circles around the competition. Little Kanupe and I started the morning absolutely hangry (one of my baby soldiers) after striking out at another place (we'll leave them unnamed to protect the innocent). One quick Yelp audible later and we landed at HK Dim Sum. Best comeback since B-Rabbit dropped the mic. The first thing you'll notice is the size of the hand cared for master pieces. Run here for a quick FIFA break, but dont think you're ordering "a little something." Every bite delivers. The chow mein was memorable, so memorable with that wok hay kiss on every noodle just right. Smoky, savory, and ridiculously addictive. Every dish hit with that same "one more bite" energy, and somehow everything showed up almost before we finished ordering. No carts, no gimmicks, no unnecessary fanfare, just legit dim sum crazy great flavor. HK Dim Sum earned a rock-solid five stars. Din Tai Fung is King in most circles, but this place is the Daenerys Dragon Queen dominator. I'm so happy to be part of this sharing of secrets. BTW get the Shumai, chowmein and har gow as starters. Explore the menu. I'm comin back soon and i'm near TJ lol.

They have a new menu and we ordered the Minced Pork & Egg Rice. This is the non-gravy/sauce version like some local restaurants are starting to do. Break the runny egg yolk and mix everything together. It was pretty good. We also ordered the pan fried turnip cake which is crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. It's better than many dim sum restaurant versions. Also got their beef rice roll again. Their rice rolls are always a hit. Don't forget to order their HK lemon iced tea on the side. It pairs well with everything especially on a hot summer day. Good air conditioning. Lots of indoor seating. Great service. Highly recommend!

I've known of Steam Fresh for a while, but saw they recently started a brunch specials menu. So I decided to come here to try their brunch. I came with family. Steam Fresh is a small restaurant but the AC is good and the staff are super friendly. The restaurant is clean. I ended up getting two breakfast specials, a noodle soup with eggs and spam with a side of zhongzi, also got congee with turnip cake. We also ordered a steamed rice with Chinese sausage and chicken. Both breakfast specials came with iced lemon tea which was awesome. The steamed rice was quite tasty. My favorite dish was probably the zhongzi which is like a Chinese tamale. It was very well seasoned and the pork was flavorful. Overall solid brunch restaurant in San Gabriel Valley.

The soup was nice, clean, and light. The veggies were perfect: bright green and a bit crisp, not over done. The wantons and noodles were tasty. The dumplings were very nice. Both had thin wrappers, full of shrimp, and so tasty with the chili sauce. We would definitely return. Next time we will be buying some frozen dumplings and wantons to take home.

They are located next to the Jade Plaza on Garvey Ave in Monterey Park. I parked in the plaza's parking lot, but I'm not 100% sure if they truly are part of the plaza. They may not be. Please read signages. Limited street parking. Upon entry, the lady behind the counter was attending to another customer. When it was my turn, she took my order quickly. She seemed friendly, but not the most smiliest. They are known for their Shrimp Wonton Noodle Soup so I got one of them. I saw Preserved Egg with Shredded Pork Congee so I had to get it, too. Lastly, I noticed another customer with an order of Black Sesame Paste... must get an order of that because I love black sesame. I decided to dine-in instead of take-out. This place isn't huge at all. It's a mom and pop whole in the wall very casual establishment with about 4 tables and some chairs. Definitely not a spot for large parties. Now to the food... Shrimp wonton noodles was quite authentic and deliciously good. Broth was light and clean without the msg flavor. Noodles were crisp and had a bouncy texture to it. WOW, wontons were the best! Good amount of quality pork and shrimp filling that was quite flavorfully seasoned. Loved it! Definitely recommend to all wonton egg noodle connoisseurs! Just one itty bitty gripe, portion was small for the price of almost $12. I felt I only got a few good bites from the bowl. I would still get it again though. I'm a sucker for great eats regardless of price LOL. Congee with tasty shredded pork and slightly salted preserved eggs was warm and savory with a soft silky texture and mild comforting flavor. I haven't had such an authentic congee in such a very long time. This is must get every time! It was worth the almost $10. I should have ordered one to-go... for sure next time. For the black sesame paste, this one was a bit of a disappointment. It was cold and not hot. Liquid was very thin. I'm used to thick black sesame. Taste was horrible. It was like eating expired black sesame grains. Did not like it at all. Will not get again. I almost tossed the whole thing away, but ended up adding some pre-packaged flavorful black sesame paste I had at my home pantry to thicken it. Afterwards, it tasted more decent like black sesame should taste. Will I be back? Yes, I'll be back for the wonton noodles and congee plus to try their other authentic Chinese dishes. They sell frozen wontons and dumplings, too. I will have to buy a bag or two of them next time. Thanks Hong Coffee & Bakery!
