This is a really nostalgic and cute family run place to grab breakfast. You can even dine with their resident kitty who made the rounds and bedded down at one of the table chairs nearby for a snooze. A husband, wife, and their son run the place with the husband doing the cooking and the wife and son doing everything else including bussing, serving, dishes, and seating. They were really hustling. Unfortunately, the latte I ordered was not the most flavorful start to our morning, and we couldn't figure out why it was so weak. Their brewed coffee was much better. I had the western omelet and my better half ordered a California bagel egg and bacon sandwich with avocado and cheese. My omelet was overdone, maybe cooked at too high of a temperature, but tasted okay (a second longer and it would have been burnt). The bagel sandwich was good but had a similar issue with the bacon being almost burnt. Maybe that's how they make stuff here? We were starving so we ate every morsel. We loved the ambiance and the history of the place. It's worth a try if you're in Mayville. read more

Ambiance was excellent! The cottage vibe was fantastic. The size of the accommodation was too small so my partner had to sleep on the couch in what amounted to an Abu-Ghraib-style stress position. Note to owner a handle in the shower would be very useful. Loved the amenities though. Found this local gem on our way back from camping at Allegany State Park and heading to Pittsburgh. Very close to Chataqua. Freshly grown tomato- none of that pale red store bought nonsense. Hand cut fries. Delicious. Western omelette was perfect. Fresh ingredients and really tasty but the rye bread was something special. Wonderful weekend dinner at this funky fun cafe. We've heard the breakfasts were great and decided to try dinner. The food, wine list and desserts were terrific. And our server was just fantastic. They are working on a basement wine bar (so smart), which we look forward to visiting next year when we're back in the area. We went here for brunch and it was so good! I highly recommend the Frenchie - a French toast breakfast sandwich...incredible. My friends got the Junk Pile which they thought was really good too. Our waitress was SO nice! She was juggling a lot of different tables but she checked on us often and kept us happy. I wish what the little cafe is overflowing with could make up for the lack of service and professionalism. We went in for breakfast with a party of 6 and one toddler. We were told to seat ourselves. We chose a cute outdoor picnic table. My husband and myself went into the cafe itself to get a high chair. We were told they kept them in the back of the cafe and we could grab one. It's small inside so He had to carry it over peoples heads to get it outside. We then waited. And waited. Waited a little bit longer before someone else in our party went in to grab a server. The server came out and took our drink order of mainly juice and coffee. When she came back, she set all the drinks down, a minimum of 5 coffees and with that, 2 sugars and maybe an 8th cup of creamer. We all just looked at each other and giggled because that wasn't even a logical amount of anything for 5 coffees. Before the server left, we asked for more creamer and more sugar, some people like Sweet, light coffee. The waitress left and while she was gone, we realized we had no silverware. We waited approximately 5 minutes, enough time to significantly cool our coffees before someone from our party went in to get silverware to stir our one, almost ideal coffee with. After a few more moments, the waitress returned with maybe a half cup of creamer and this time a whopping 4 sugars. We all just kind of stared this time. Before she could finish taking our orders, the sugars and creamer was gone. We asked for a good amount more creamer and sugar since now those who had some of their coffee needed a warm up and refill. The waitress came out and slammed a tall to go coffee cup of sugars on the table and 4 full creamer cups. Clearly irritated. I gave the cafe 2 stars because the food was hot and done right. Did it taste good? It was pretty typical diner food. read more

This place is great! It is different than any place you will try. First of all, it is in a very hold hardware store and the decor is awesome. My favorite is to go there in winter and get the table next to the wood stove. You feel like you step back in time. All the food we've tried is great including the fruit pancakes and the salmon chowder (at different times of course). They serve Stedman coffee made in Lakewood (originally made here) which is a major plus. It has a real charm you just can't get at a chain. read more

That said, two things: 1) the hot n' smoky pepper jack is indeed hot. 2) I don't believe there is air conditioning, so prepare thyself if coming when it's toasty outside. He curled up on my husband's coat and fell asleep. We felt obligated to stay and have a huge, peanut butter cookie that just came out of the oven. Why disturb Henry? This is a great place if you are looking for somewhere off of 86 (take Panama/Chau Institution exit and head north), or are near Chautauqua Institution, Mayville, or Lakewood and want a relaxing meal. My mom and I stopped in about 1pm on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. We just wanted a light lunch, but the cozy atmosphere would be great for a casual dinner or lingering breakfast. I do think it could have used a little cleaning/upkeep. We sat by the window and the large full sized windowsills were really dusty with dead bugs/flies on the bottom and some cobwebs. We both got a cup of their delicious coffee as we looked over the menu. There isn't a ton for vegetarians besides one of their soups that day and a grilled cheese sandwich, besides a basic salad. Mom got a cup of a the squash soup, while I got the 1/2 sandwich of a BLT with a cup of the Chicken Corn Rivel which is like a chowder. My 1/2 BLT was not skimpy at all and had 3 big slices of well cooked bacon on it, along with fresh tomato and romaine lettuce. Bread toasted nicely and was nice and hot when brought out. The Rivel was creamy and loaded with chicken and flavor. I put a little extra pepper on it. Mom enjoyed the squash soup, cleaning out the whole bowl, and we both noted both soups were not too salty which we often find when eating out. My mom remarked she would like to bring my dad for a late lunch/early dinner when they do have them (I am guessing spring/summer as Fall hours posted have them closing daily at 2pm), and I saw some items on the all-day breakfast menu that looked good, as well as some baked goods that would be easy to grab and go. All six of us felt our dinners were absolutely delicious. Between the six of us, we tried the scallops, butternut squash lasagna, butternut squash soup, french onion soup, tuna melt and crab cakes. I've come to Chautauqua for the last 6 summers and I only just discovered Stedman Corners Cafe this latest trip. To make up for lost time, I've made multiple visits during this year's visit. First and foremost, this place is really great for coffee lovers. I'd definitely rate this coffee the best among the many kinds and places I've had the pleasure to get my daily dose of vitamin C! The food is excellent as well. It's a place for breakfast and lunch - nothing exotic, but all really tasty and right-sized portions. The decor is accurately reflected in the pics of this Yelp review. It's like a very interesting yard sale that serves food. There is seating inside - about 10 tables. There's also outdoor seating. No AC, but outdoor seating on the porch or patio is a great alternative. I'll take a little bit of Stedman's home with their roasted coffee beans. This place deserves 5 stares because they are amazing and such polite people. Whatever the customers want they get it in a hurry to make sure they can get your items fast so nothing happens later on like a complaint. I ate here for the first time last year and the food and setting were so delightful. I was excited to see the restaurant was still open and appears to be thriving. Ate here for breakfast on Saturday and Sunday as only in the area for the weekend. Tuscan breakfast sandwich was delicious with bacon, spinach and eggs on an English muffin. Today, I had the South of the Border with salsa, eggs and bacon on an English muffin. Coffee is served at a good drinking temperature. A touch of cream is all that is needed. Servers were excellent--attentive, professional, friendly. LOVE Henry, the cat. Sitting on the front porch with the cows across the street, watching the few cars go by and the clouds rolling by--a great way to start the morning. read more

This place is charming. Word of warning to those allergic to cat dander, as they do have a restaurant feline in residence. However, with that being said, Henry the cat is extremely mellow and well behaved. I didn't see him in the way or hopping up onto surfaces like counters or tables. In fact during our visit he spent the entire time napping on one of the chairs. The inside of the establishment is charming and warm. The oatmeal cookie with cranberries and walnuts was so yummy that my mother and I had wished we bought more than one for the long road trip home. The Hostess and staff were lovely and attentive. An oasis in a world where other restaurants know that a tourist is often trapped without a lot of choices on where to go to eat, and thus it seems service suffers- not here. So very refreshing! We had a french toast breakfast, and it was perfectly seasoned. Will be coming back here every year and looking forward to it as a highlight of the trip.
