I don't believe the tech. They said they thought the gas valve was bad and before he left to get another I asked him "If it still does the same thing, then what?" He replied "I will not charge you for it." Well lo and behold after the valve replacement the furnace did the same thing, per the tech, but then he said we have to get with xcel to see why the gas pressure drops to zero at times. Also, the white thread sealant is all gooped around the pipe joints. I asked him about that and he said that is normal. So after a $800 visit I don't think the issue is fixed, paid for a new valve even though he said I wouldn't if the problem still exists ( I don't believe the value was bad) As I said, I don't believe him, in fact I'd say I don't believe ANYTHING about the service and just paid $800 for ??????? The more I think about this the more frustrating this is!!! read more

I saw their vehicle in front of a new build across from my house and assumed they could have one of their guys pop over and fix an incorrectly installed pair of furnace/humidifier drain lines that were not aligned with the drain. Having just had this problem with another house and having had my humidifier flood a room in my basement I figured they would want to fix something that they almost certainly installed incorrectly even if it was over a year ago simply to avoid the massive headache that would come with potential liability and litigation. However, they told me it would be $89 to even send someone to look at it, and given my desire to get it done I said forget it and popped over to Lowe's and bought a PVC cutter, 3 3/4" 90s, and a short section of schedule 40 for all of $8 worth of materials and just fixed it myself in 15 minutes. Maybe the owners of this business should train their employees to consider their reputation when people call about things that were done incorrectly by their techs and make more of an effort to take care of simple easy repairs that should in theory cost almost nothing for them when their guys are literally across the street from me everyday. read more

I had a CO alarm go off last week. Called Steele Brothers who installed the furnace 12 years ago (I bought this furnace - lived here 19 years). They had me call Xcel - which I did and they proved there was a significant CO leak in my home. I called Steele Brothers back and they said the heat exchanger had gone bad and while it has a 20 year warranty there is a flaw in the type of furnace that I have and they don't put those in. Don't have anyone trained to do it. Don't have the man power to spend 8 hours doing the work and good luck finding anyone to do that for you. and actually used the words "I am not a used car sales man". My only option was to get a new furnace. Which they told me they would only charge me cost. $2000. The same "level" furnace I have would have been more like $4000 and they didn't have it in stock. But I decided I didn't need all the things as I have a nest thermostat and don't use all the communication. They did do this replacement the same day and it was 20 degrees that night so I am very grateful for the quick turn around. However this all seems so very wrong to me. If a part is under 20 year warranty and cannot be replaced, due to a manufacture problem why am I paying $2000 for a new furnace? It just feel all wrong. I looked up the furnace they put in and it is only $1800. I feel they over charged me on top of it all when the guy said it was on an "exchange" so he only had to charge me cost - whatever that means? Anyway, Is this how it is now in 2022? do we just expect companies to not support the products we put into homes? Do we only expect them to last 10 years? We could have died if we didn't have a CO detector (hope everyone reading this puts one in on every level and replaces batteries regularly). In the end, I still I had to cover the cost of a dysfunctional furnace in my home. I don't expect anything to come of this. Mostly just wanted to vent about the poor state of the world. I am grateful I have my life, and heat and had the savings to purchase this new furnace (sad about not traveling next year). But 12 years is not long enough for a furnace to last and I just wish companies had some integrity and some guts to stand behind the products they put inside our homes. If a company like Bryant has a flaw in their furnace, I wish they would step up and replace this - not just a flaw in how it runs, it ran fine, but a flaw that could have taken our lives. I bought a furnace/ac unit in 2022. They advertised white glove service, but didn't even bring a broom. Screws, metal shavings and drywall dust were left all over the floor. They blew the GFI's when they installed an outdoor electrical plug for their power tools. They cut a 10 ft branch off a tree, for reasons unknown, and threw it in the yard. They left a basement window open and the cat got out. When I called to complain, and request that they fix the GFI's, they said I was mistaken, because they wouldn't have done that. The person I spoke to said they would believe the word of their installers over the customer. It took a week, with no power in any of the bathrooms, and constant phone calls, before they finally agreed to send an electrician to fix the GFI's. The furnace is great, but the installers were terrible. 2 years later, a UV unit on the furnace needed a new cell. They said it would be $89, plus the price of the cell. They DID NOT say what the price was. The technician unplugged the old cell, put in the new cell, and plugged it in. It took 10 whole minutes. He then informed me that the new cell was $1000.00! I told him to take it back out. He then gave me a bill for $191 for the trip charge and labor. UNBELIEVABLE! This furnace has a 10 year warranty, but I would hesitate to call them for service, because I don't feel they can be trusted. read more

My wife and I purchased a home where the A/C unit was installed by Steele Brothers just two years ago. Unfortunately the system stopped working in the middle of a heat wave. We had a rocky start at first trying to get some technicians out to our house to inspect the unit. Nick was the 2nd person who helped me with my furnace last week. The first company stood in front of a fully functioning Carrier furnace with an error code and wanted to do a full replacement, or at a minimum replace the inducer motor and control board ($2,300). Nick evaluated the unit, checked various functions and parts, as a well trained professional would. The previous owner failed to perform maintenance timely and the condensation filter was clogged. We emptied about 50 ounces of water, the unit began draining properly and my bill was only for maintenance service. No more flashing error codes and no parts were replaced. I also used Steele Bros in 2018 to replace an A/C unit in my prior home. They were the 3rd company to visit and the only company who performed any analysis before making a determination. Our house is 35 years old and there are challenges when replacing major systems in older homes. I want to start this review by saying that these are GREAT PEOPLE and they did fantastic work for us! I'd use them again and would recommend them to friends and family! I worked with Steele Brother's to install our air conditioning unit on top of our existing furnace. From the salesperson to the installers to administration, everything at Steele Brothers is top notch! They are professional, conscientious and committed to you being happy with your system! As is always the case with big home improvement projects, especially ones that are retrofitting to an old house, there were some issues that arose throughout and after the project. These things are not ideal, but they are also part of the process of home improvement. What sets Steele Brothers apart, is that they responded promptly and did everything they could to remedy any problem. Most companies I've worked with have essentially disappeared after the work was done, and it's almost impossible to have them come back out once they pass inspection. Steele Brothers definitely WENT ABOVE AND BEYOND, to make sure we got the problems fixed and that we were happy with the work. Bought house in HR, had the Steele Bros sticker on the heater saying to call for any HVAC or plumbing issues. Discovered a PEX pipe fitting had cracked and was spewing water throughout the basement. Shut down the source (hot water outlet) and started to clean up. Called Steele Brothers at approx 3:15pm. Answering service (?) said they would have someone call me right back., I went back to cleaning up. 1 hr later got call back from someone saying they would check to see if someone with Steele Bros could come out today. I made sure he had a clear picture of what the problem was and what needed to be done. 55 minutes after that received call from same guy that no one would be available today and that he would have Michelle with the plumbing department call me first thing in the morning to let me know when they would be there. He also advised the job would cost $100 to drive to house and $150 per hour minimum + parts to do the work. I reluctantly agreed. Forced to take at least the next morning off while I waited for Steele Bros to show up, I had to at least take the morning off due to not being able to sufficiently clean up before going into work. Waited and waited all morning, no one called or came by. Finally called Steele Bros office at 12:10p, left msg to contact me. No return call still. Called again at 1:20pm and left another msg. Still no return call. Fed up, I called another plumbing company at 1:45pm. They were in my driveway in 5 mins and had my problem fixed in another 20 mins... for $65, not the $250+parts minimum Steele Bros quoted. Finally at 3:30pm, Michelle from Steele Bros calls and leaves a msg for me to call her back. I do, twice. But for some reason Michelle cannot hear me on their phones... their phone receptionist however hears me just fine. I try to tell Michelle that I had to hire someone else after they waited over 24 hrs to call me back... but she could not understand me. Frustrated, I hung up the last time. Two years ago I would have given Steele 1 star. They replaced the motor in my furnace and it has never ran smoothly. I put up with it until last week when it became loose and sounded like a freight train every time it kicked on. Of course the warranty had expired. I shopped around for an OEM replacement and was quoted around $700. Then I called Steele and explained my situation. Len, the service manager, quoted me $500. Sold. Technician was great. He explained a bunch of things to me and showed me the damage to the old motor. Took much longer than I thought to install the new one because he actually took the wheel back to his shop to get owner's opinion on whether it was out of round or not. I thought for sure they were going to tell me it was damaged and more $$, but no! New motor runs as quiet as a glider flying over the high plains. read more

It only took about an hour for Chris from Steele Bros to make it to my house after I discovered my furnace had stopped working in the midst of minus-ten degree weather one morning--and about six seconds for him to figure out the problem once he got down into the cellar to take a look. If only most services were this simple. Chris was able to diagnose a busted condensation pump, find one in his vehicle, and replaced it in less than two hours, getting the heat up and running within only about 15 minutes of his arrival. And to top it all off, he was very informative about the costs of the part and the labor up front, making it easier to swallow when he handed me a bill. I just received a follow-up call from Chris making sure that the service was satisfactory and nothing else had happened to the furnace, which reminded me to write the review. We have purchased and serviced our furnace and AC unit from Steele Bros, and have always been happy with their service. Our heater was out yesterday (18 degrees outside) and the tech was able to be there within an hour. Diagnosed the problem as a bad "hot surface igniter" for which he had a replacement with him in his truck. $80 for service call and $175 for the part. $255 total for less than one hour. I looked up the retail cost of the surface igniter, $15 retail. So a markup of 11x cost. I'll find someone else from now on. read more

Found Steele Bros by sending a RFP through homeadivsor which sends out your request to nearby companies, they were one of 6 that called. Liked the way the associate was very knowledgeable and friendly over the phone. Also their estimates are FREE, so we scheduled for them to take a look at our broken 20yr old furnance. FYI, This was our second opinion company by the way, the first company we had out was Applewoody, which I did not meet, but according to my better half, the tech was a bit short and rude, charged $29 and left us an estimate that was enough to buy a good used car. They were out first thing in the morning, looked at it and was able to get the furnace installed the sane day, they were done with furnace and humidifier by 3:30pm. Technicians were polite, considerate of their shoes, covered my carpet, before leaving they answered all my questions, showed me how the new humidifier worked, where the air filter was. I'm in the customer service business, so I know what good service entails, it mean going above and beyond, it IS all about customer service, being experts in your field of work, and reassuring the customer of a resolution with empathy and a sense of urgency. It's also about educating your customer with your products and services, a smart customer is a happy empowered one and they took the time to explain air ventilation and how the new products worked. This whole company impressed me start to finish with their dedication to doing the job right. I hired them to install a/c to my excising ductwork and replace and upgrade the furnace at the same time. The finished product turned out above my expectations; it's very apparent these guys take pride in their work by the extra time they took to cleanly route wiring, ducting, a/c lines, and the outdoor electrical. I'm an extremely picky guy and I wouldn't hesitate to have these guys back out if I ever needed additional work done. Superior for and finish. Thanks to Nick, my water heater conundrum was quickly solved. I unfortunately came to learn that the people who sold and installed my new water heaters actually lied about me needing them. Rather, my issue was the high water pressure causing the heater's valves to release pressure. Nick promptly reduced our water pressure and also helps me to do routine troubleshooting on my boiler/radiant heat system. this place has me in the middle as far as a review. (id give a dead 2.5, in the middle, rating) our A/C had gone out on, literally, the hottest day of the summer. i knew it was old (17yrs at that time) and was about to give out. so i gave steele bros a call (via friend referral). since our system (A/C and furnace) was so old, the compressor and chemicals they usedwere pretty much obsolete so we opted to get an entirely new system. we got a Trane system. they had to do some custom cutting and installation for our home, but between the foreman and 3 crew members, they had it done in a half day. they were conscientious of the house and kept it clean. when they were finished, everything looked great and the house extremely clean. they removed all debris and removed the old system. ive had other people over (including XCEL and some other home "contractors") who all commented on the excellent work (appeared) done and that it looked great. so, no complaints there. the system works great (cooling and heating) with no issues. but this is where i have to dock them on the review stars: honesty. when we had the system installed, we were supposed to get a certain A/C, Furnace, and Coil. this "combination" per the AHRI (Air-Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Institute) was valid and would qualify us for the tax credit based on the 'efficiency' of the system as a whole. you have to print a certificate as well. but during the walkthrough after the installation, i noticed the coil model # did not match our invoice of what was to be installed. (as matter of fact, i noted several 'typos' which were ambiguous in model #'s). nonetheless, i addressed this and was told that the model we were supposed to get was out of stock, they didnt want to delay the installation, and this was actually a better fit. okay, im not a HVAC guru so i took the guys word for it. later, i went back to the AHRI site to put in the combination that WAS installed only to find this combination didnt even exist! like it wasnt supposed to be done, or never had been done. i then contacted Trane and gave them this info. they said the combination would work and updated the AHRI website with a certificate. whew. HOWEVER, they noted the efficiency was less than the promised combination and that it would NOT qualify for the tax rebate based on this. i contacted steele bros and addressed my issue. i felt like if we paid for a certain system, we should have received it. period. the guy said that the slight decrease in efficiency would not have significant impact on the cost savings over the year. but this is my point: honesty. i dont care about the money. i told him i felt like it was a bait and switch (cuz this was obviously not as efficient as the other system). my whole idea is that, "why didnt he just tell me up front BEFORE the installation that particular coil model was out? and then offer me a choice: wait for the right part, or proceed with his recommendation". i mean, this was a $5,000 system i was paying for. had i not pointed out the discrepancy in the model #, i guarantee they would have never said anything to me about it. so i dock them for honesty. that is key for me as a business. in conclusion, we kept the system as is and it works very well. installation was clean and well done. however, i would question their ethics when it comes to things like being honest when things arent what they promised. read more

The furnace in the home we purchased a couple of months ago decided to quit working on the coldest day of the season thus far. The original installers of our system were no longer in business, so I was on my own to find somebody to come out to see what was wrong. After looking through review on Yelp, and elsewhere I decided to give Steele Bros a ring. They were very helpful on the phone, going so far as to try and talk me through some simple fixes. When it was determined that one of their guys had to come out, they worked me into what sounded to be a full day. Joel arrived at our place about 30 min after the earliest part of their quoted window. He was very friendly and courteous, going so far as to put on shoe covers even after I told him it wasn't necessary. He promptly went to work. After about 15-20 min, he appeared upstairs saying he was all through. Turns out is was a very simple fix that he had to perform, and got things running again in no time. Per my request, he even showed me what was wrong, and how I can fix it myself down the line should the same symptoms arise again. The price for his time was beyond fair, and I was happy to pay to get my home warm again for my family. Will call Steele Bros again, if needed. read more

My furnace is less than 2 years old, they installed it, and it's covered under manufacturer warranty. Our furnace quit over the weekend when it was FREEZING! These jerks wanted to charge us just to come out and take a look at it, then said their services were not under warranty when it was determined that we had a bad pressure switch. OH - and the other funny thing is that we found a hornet nest just inside our intake/exhaust pipe. Three months ago, Steele Bros. Heating installed whole-house humidifiers on my two furnaces, as well as electronic thermostats/humidistats. After only three months, the drain hose in one of the humidifiers clogged up from hard water and the unit overflowed and flooded my basement. Fortunately, the electronic module for the thermostat/humidistat was mounted on the other side of the furnace, away from the water that was pouring out of the humidifier unit. However, on my second furnace, the Steele Bros. Technician had mounted the electronic module directly below the humidifier unit containing the water pan and potentially problematic drain hose. A disaster waiting to happen since water and electronics do not mix well! The Steele Bros. Technician who was here today charged me $164 for the half hour it took to relocate the electronic module to the other side of the furnace! (This was the discounted rate since I had purchased their "Gold Service Plan." I do not think I should have been charged to correct the original technician's mistake! Additionally, one of the thermostats has been repeatedly displaying error messages saying it has lost communication with the system, and the technician's only comment was that he doesn't know how that thermostat communicates with the system but it seems to be working now. I have not found Steele Bros. to be very responsive to multiple problems with a new installation. I would not recommend them. read more

We have a 6 mos old house, and Steele Bros has been here 4 times now to "fix" our brand new air conditioner. We have a warranty, and therefore it takes 1-3 weeks to get the here each time. We've asked for it to be replaced, and this time they sent their expert service repairman - who just happens to be the rudest and most cantankerous man I've ever met. Bottom line: this is a company that doesn't stand by their work and I'm doing every thing I can to convince the home builder to replace them. After becoming increasingly frustrated with the service techs from the company that originally installed the extensive and sophisticated (8500 sf) snowmelt system at our home, I reached out to Steele Brothers HVAC in early December. I spoke with Dave Donahoe, the company owner, and he arranged a complimentary appointment to meet me at my home with several of his team members who are certified and well versed in residential and commercial snowmelt systems. Within 10 minutes of the Steele Brother's team arrival and review of my system, I knew I had finally found knowledgeable technicians who truly understand all the components of a snowmelt system. Kevin and Steve went through the various settings on my system, set them appropriately (as many of them were not set correctly by our former HVAC company) and took the time to go through each setting with me to be sure I understood them. Kevin and Steve then proceeded to run my system through several tests, inspected my snowmelt boiler for gas leaks (which we had experienced in the past), and verified through multiple tests that our boiler and our Tekmar snowmelt controls were in sync and effectively communicating with one another. Dave and his service pros were at my home for about an hour and accomplished more for me in that one hour than what was ever accomplished by our former company over the course of multiple and more lengthy service calls. After the visit from Steele Brothers HVAC, we experienced two snowfalls during which our snowmelt system worked efficiently and perfectly. An added and unexpected bonus was that after each snow fall, Dave Donahoe called me to verify that our system functioned as desired with no issues. Steele Brothers HVAC has provided me with outstanding service. I am elated to have found such a knowledgeable, professional, and experienced local HVAC company that I am confident can effectively service and maintain my snowmelt system. Steele Brothers were hired as a subcontractor by a contractor doing a major renovation work in a property in Denver. They were hired to install two new furnaces and HVAC units, plus installation of ducting We found out after the job was over that the thermostats on both were not connected, and in the second furnace there was no 220 power to the unit, so the unit could not possibly have been tested. We have asked Steele Brothers to give us documentation for the work that was performed by the contractor to determine if they did what they were supposed to, and if not, to go after the contractor for failing to complete the work we paid for, but Steele has refused to release the specifications for the work they did. I had been promised the quote from the contractor, but never received it, but as the ultimate customer believe I am entitled to this as a matter of good business. Chris at Steele Brothers has refused to give us any information about the scope of work that was performed, which I certainly not helpful, as it ties my hands in taking the contractor into an action over this. It's likely not worth taking either of them to court, but I am disappointed that a reputable business would not provide the property owner with the scope of work. This makes me think possibly, they actually were responsible for not performing the full installation as required, else hard to see why they would object to this query about the work they were hired to perform by my contractor. read more

He was courteous, professional, and was thorough and explained all that he had to do to fix my heater. He changed out a pressure switch and then continued to trouble shoot when my HVAC was still giving a pressure-switch blinking light. Apparently my son had pushed rocks into the air vent and this was causing the pressure sensor to shut the system down, not allowing the heat to come on. Had I not had Chris that day, we would still be wondering why the system wasnt working! Thank goodness for Chris and Steele Brothers!!!
