Walter and his team were fantastic!!! These are the "Go-To" guys if you have any HVAC needs. I never write recommendations this long but this story will help you understand how terrific they are. I've been in my home for a little over a year and was noticing in the summer that my AC was occasionally freezing up so I had a different company come out to inspect it. There are only two reasons AC will freeze up and that is due to low refrigerant or restricted air-flow. The technician told me that my unit is old and most likely the evaporative coils that sit above the furnace were probably dirty and would have to be cleaned but it wouldn't be worth the cost because my AC & furnace are 15 years old. I didn't have the cleaning service done and figured I would put in a new unit the next spring and decided to ride out the summer. A few weeks ago, I had the same company come out to perform an annual tune-up on my furnace. The technician notified me that for some reason the furnace was shutting off early before it would meet the temp setting on the thermostat (short-cycling). Short cycling is caused by a faulty time-out switch which shuts off the furnace if the heat exchanger is getting too hot. The technician determined that the switch appeared okay and that the only other reason the heat exchanger would get too hot was due to air-flow problems. I told him that I was also told by their AC technician that I have an air-flow problem. The technician said it had to be the evaporative coils are clogged and preventing air from the HVAC blower from feeding the ducting and removing the heat off the heat exchanger fast enough. The company scheduled another technician to clean the evaporative coils. When the tech inspected the coils, they were clean. He was very friendly and spent over an hour trying to figure out what could be causing the furnace to short cycle and all he could come up with was that I'm having air-flow issues and I might have to have my ducts cleaned. I showed him that two of the three return-air vents didn't pull any air and how the ducts were already cleaned because of all the access points cut out for the service. The technician left baffled. I found Steele Bros. Heating online and called them because their site mentioned that they perform duct repair and resolve air-flow issues. I talked with Walter and explained that I need someone to determine why I'm having air-flow issues and how to fix it. He had Jodi call me to schedule a no-cost appointment to assess my situation. Walter came out and I explained the history to him and how I ran a test to see if my return-air vents were the cause for my furnace short-cycling. I pulled off the panel that covers the blower below the furnace. With the panel off, getting air to the system wouldn't be an issue. The furnace ran, ran and ran without shutting off. My test proved the system was starved for air because something was blocking 2 of the 3 return-air vents. Walter spent over an hour with me to assess the situation. He saw some things about my ducting that didn't look right so he had his ducting expert look at the situation the next day. In just a short while, they figured out the problem. The original builder installed insulation and fire blocks in the wall spaces that were for the return air. Efrem did the actual labor and got right to work. He had to cut holes into drywall to pull out the insulation and remove any obstacles. Efrem also improved air flow by extending a duct in the basement that was too short and restricted air. Efram's efforts were successful! So a problem that existed for more than 15 years was corrected in about 6 hours and at a very reasonable cost. I now have all 3 return-air vents pulling air and a furnace that doesn't short cycle!!! I'm amazed that the other company I used had three people visit my home and the first two assumed my air-flow issues were due to dirty evaporative coils or just an old system and didn't even look at the evaporative coils. Also frustrating was how 2 of the 3 return air vents didn't pull any air which didn't indicate a problem to them. I'm not an HVAC expert but I know return vents should be pulling air! Today, Tuesday, April 16, my wife and I had a furnace and air conditioning system installed in our home by Steele Bros., and while here the company tradesmen also serviced two other HVAC units. One of the tradesmen, Oswaldo, called early this morning to say they were on their way; we appreciated that courtesy call so we could prepare. Once Oswaldo and Adrian arrived, they started working and did not finish the job until approximately 8:00pm. Mauricio, the supervisor, came somewhat later this morning and pitched right in with Oswaldo and Adrian. At the end of the installation, Mauricio took the time to thoroughly and completely answer several questions that I had. The new furnace was installed in the crawl space, and the workers took out the old furnace that they had just replaced, as well as one that had been left in the crawl from a previous installation. I was most impressed that the Steele Bros. workers took the time and substantial effort to remove the old furnace from the crawl that some previous worker from another company had been too lazy to remove. Had Steele Bros. not mentioned it, I would never have known that it was still there! My wife and I are extremely well satisfied with the professionalism, courtesies and skills shown to us today by all three workers, Oswaldo, Adrian and Mauricio (there could have been a fourth, just not sure as I was not here for most of the installation); we give them the very highest of ratings! I am a real estate broker and founder of a major residential real estate firm in Denver, and have been selling homes here for well over 40 years. During that time I have had occasion to use and refer quite a number of heating and air conditioning firms, but Steele Bros. is now on top of my list and is my "go-to" HVAC firm! Steele Bros Heating was one of three companies to bid our furnace replacement. We wanted an all steel heat exchanger and Steele Bros was able to offer an Amana 80% two-stage with variable fan that met all desires. The initial bid included a full return and supply calculation that brought in at a price that was half of Applewood Heating and inline with Major Heating that ended up being our second choice but they couldn't offer an all steel heat exchanger. The installation took place in five hours and was painless due to the professional crew performing the installation. The City of Lakewood inspection went perfectly and the inspector said the Company did an excellent job. Even though the Company is located in the southern part of the Denver metroplex, they have full resources serving the northern and northwestern parts of the metroplex. A couple years ago we started a whole house remodel from top to bottom. We started with the basement. Justin, Mauricio and the crew did a fantastic job with all the duct work rerouting, new duct installation, new return installation and new ceiling vents. They were very courteous and cognizant of staying organized and keeping our home clean while they worked. We decided to replace our furnace too.
