Today for lunch, I took my son to Steelefish Grille to celebrate a milestone of something he's been working on. Needless to say, he loved it. I believe this is my third or fourth trip to this restaurant, and I'd be remiss to not write something about the great service and great food. Let's just say, after the meal, my son declared, "We have to return here." The atmosphere is a perfect balance of classy and comfortable. I don't know what else I can say about it. The Ulysses pasta is the best. It is quite delicious, not heavy and just full of flavor. I have yet to veer from the entree. The Maryland Crab soup is just the right spicy. My son had a Sirloin which was cooked perfectly with incredible markings. Yes, it makes a difference when the food looks good. KUDOS to the COOK STAFF! The Service - if you do go, and I recommend that you do, ask for Shannon. She is good at anticipating needs and reading the guests. She is there most weekends in the evenings. She is prompt, personal and non-intrusive, that is to say, she is perfect at stopping by at appropriate times. Even the other staff that supports the servers are quite happy in helping with what you may need if you ask. If I were ever to have any issue with anything, I am confident they will be there to help me. Now, even the manager, Amy, made a round of the tables. Holding her to conversation was awesome because she was definitely hospitable (as well as Shannon). Go here. They have live music on the weekends too, which is not disappointing. I live less than a mile away and have passed this restaurant 1,000 times and haven't tried it since it was Freddies. Finally decided to give it a go. No sure I would go back. First off the noise level is so loud our service couldn't hear our orders. And speaking of server, must have been new since she didn't know, or offer to let us know, what the drink and food specials were. Good thing for them we found out because we had a large party that was thirsty. Appetizers were highlight, crabby fries and spicy fried shrimp were very good. Other entrees were OK, nothing to write home about, just good, seafood a bit pricey for just good. Back to server, not very attentive, had to get runners to find her to take drink refill order. Never stopped by to see how we were doing. Now back to those drink specials, when I received the bill the prices on all the different "specials" were not correct, they were too high. When I brought to waitress attention she said they included the tax already, I pointed out her error and asked for her to check with the manager. Sure enough, wrong, and she made the comment that she can only imagine how many people have been overcharged and I was the 1st person to point this out. Rather than a free drink or dessert for helping to correct their mistake, a 10 minute wait got us close to what we were overcharged. When I left, I did see the manager on the computer trying to fix the problem. Too noisy for me, service meh, overcharged, food OK, nothing special, will probably pass another 1,000 times before going back. read more

We have been twice and both times we had a great meal and the same server who actually remembered us! We sat outside both times near the same table. The food is good, the drinks are nicely priced compared to D.C drink prices and although the place is packed on weekends, they always get back to us within the wait time they stated. read more

Rather long wait on a Saturday night, but nothing out of the ordinary for this area. Service was great (thanks Emilee!) and food was especially good. Crab soup was delicious, full of Maryland summer flavor (in January!) My only complaint is the NOISE. Forget having a conversation at the table without shouting. This place needs to decide whether it wants to be a bar or a restaurant, and from the quality of the food, I'd say take that route and stick with it. No need for blaring music and 12 tv's while enjoying a meal. Isn't that what Looneys and 501 Johnny's is doing? My mom and I rode by one day not knowing or hearing anything about this place. I walked in the hostess was very friendly. She gave me a menu to take home. I showed my mom in the car and she wanted to immediately go in. Our waiter was very friendly, funny and knowledgable about the menu. He didn't push anything on us like most waiters. The drinks were strong and well worth the price. We had a few appetizers, which were some of the best I've ever had. Highly recommend the quesadillas. We had the seafood and streak ones. We also ordered side salads which were HUGE! We split lobster mac and cheese which was pretty good. I would definitely recommend this to anyone. It's a great atmosphere! My boyfriend & I chose to go to Steelefish for our pre-Valentines Day dinner. We're both servers ourselves so we have to work on most holidays. With that said, when we dine out, we're very critical of our service, food, and experience at restaurants. I had heard many good things about the restaurant from a friend who works there. My expectations were exceeded by far. We ordered both from the special Valentines menu and the standard menu. For drinks, we chose the Peach Pomtinis which were delicious and had the perfect amount of "punch." We had a dozen oysters on the half shell and the cream of crab soup for appetizers. Both were served with good timing and tasted superb. We eat raw oysters often, Blue Point are my favorite and good size the price. The cream of crab was rich, had just enough crabmeat && perfect for sharing. For dinner he had the Steelefish Steamer which was so HUGE, we shared it and still had enough for another meal to bring home. Our server ***Jordan***, who was attentive, friendly, and honest, helped me choose the Rockfish from the Vday specials. It was extremely delicious, full of flavor, and filling. First time here on a recommendation from family, we had reservations for 5:00 on a Sunday and it wasn't too busy when we arrived. I had the 1/2 lb steamed shrimp the were huge and plenty for a entree about 10+ shrimp. My wife had the prime rib dip which was also excellent. Prices are reasonable especially with the specials. It was definitely getting busy as we left so reservations are a good idea. read more

Maybe our fault for going to a place called SteeleFISH and ordering BBQ and a chicken salad wrap? The BBQ had no BBQ taste. The waffle fries ON the BBQ sandwich sounded good but ended up being slices of warm potato which did nothing for the sandwich. The bread on which the BBQ was served was stale and hard in one corner. My wife had a cup of cream of crab soup which was very good. Actually had a taste of sherry in the soup which seems to be missing from most establishments. The chicken salad wrap had diced piece of chicken in it which had probably been sitting for some time since they were hard. The lettuce in the wrap was wilted. She had two bites and that was all. Maybe it was a bad day for lunch or maybe fish are their specialty. We will not be going back. read more

I came here with a girlfriend of mine for lunch. It was restaurant week. So, basically a prefix three course menu. I got the Cesar salad, shrimp wrap, and cheesecake. The Cesar salad was huge! It was delicious as well, and could have been a meal in and of itself. THe shrimp wrap was yummy as well. It had lots of shrimp, flavored with old bay. Really good. Served with homemade old bay chips. The dessert was a gigantic piece of cheesecake or chocolate thing. Not a chocolate fan here, so I got the cheesecake. I know, what's wrong with me? I would say I come for the food, but I have a condition where I basically have to be spoon fed b/c of my fear of holding utensils. Ergo, I don't eat in public b/c how mortified would I be if other people saw me being spoon fed by my 16 year old son? So I don't eat. But you know, you love to see it. Always packed because it's always good.. we've been here a few times and the food gets better every time. You can usually skip the wait and find seating at the bar which is partially outside. My 3-year old wanted to go to a restaurant with a playground and I've been wanting to try this restaurant for a while so I figured it was the perfect opportunity. We were greeted immediately by three hosts who took us outside only after I requested a table there - I don't think they were going to give me an option though. My daughter and I were seated and I was given only a food menu, no drink menu. We waited, and waited, and waited, for 15 mins (yes, I timed it) before our server came to take our drink order only to find out I didn't have a drink menu. Once I had the drink list I ordered a Steelfish Crush (not very good) and some milk for my daughter. Once we eventually were able to place our order with our very nice but not very attentive server I took my daughter to the playground that was a MADHOUSE. (*Disclaimer* I only based my review on the service and food - I won't dock points for poor parenting from other guests but think it is worth mentioning) Please note that, in addition to my 3 year old I am a mom of 2 elementary school age boys so I am not a first time helicopter parent who can't deal with playground excitement and wild and crazy kids but this was insane. The kids there were playing so rough with no parental supervision that I had to shield my daughter from being pelted with rubber mulch during the full playground game of mulch tag that was going on or being squished from teenage boys jumping off the TOP of the playset. Again, not docking the restaurant for this but wanted to raise it for anyone who may be interested in what the atmosphere of the playground is...I am not sure this is always the case with Steelefish Grille but if it is I would recommend taking note from Ropewalk in Ocean City who has teenage monitors on their playground. The food came and it was AMAZING - SO GOOD! Tuna Tataki for app and blackened chicken lettuce wraps as an entrée - both were top notch. My daughter got kids chicken strips and fries. They were yummy and a very large sized serving. I also really loved their children's menu side options which included fruit, applesauce, fries, and mac'n'cheese. I give the food 5 stars! We will be back with the hope that the service is better (and also hopes of a better playground experience). I want to give this restaurant a 5 star rating across the board. read more

Everything we had for dinner tonight was stellar... Calamari was crisp and tender, drinks were on point, and our dinners (steak w/shrimp, salmon filet, and PEI mussels) were absolutely delicious. Would have given 5 stars but our soup order (all three) was not done. Our waitress was attentive but extremely busy, which actually gave us time to talk and catch up over drinks and food. I brought my family in for Easter dinner. We made a reservation online for 4:15. We were seated promptly. At that point, nothing else was prompt. Our server finally acknowledged us about ten minutes later. He took our drink and apps order and then... drinks arrived (two sodas and a water) and he said he would be back. About ten minutes later our apps arrived. We finished our apps and waited. And waited. And waited. I will remind you that he never came back to ask about whether we wanted to order entrees. At this point, I asked the hostess who seated us to speak to a manager. Guess what??? Never saw a manager. E, our server came over at this time to take our order and when I mentioned that we've been done with the appetizers and waiting to order entrees, his response was, "It shouldn't take too long. The kitchens moving fast today." Really, no apology for not checking in or taking our order and making us wait. Very arrogant. And did I mention that I never did get to speak to a manager?? We ordered entrees and my wife did enjoy the Black Bass. My Prime Rib dip was sub-par and my son ate about 1/3 of his cheeseburger. I will say the fries were good. I was originally going to order a steamer pot that I normally get, but I wasn't going to give up any more of my hard-earned money when the manager won't come see me. While we have enjoyed coming in to your establishment over the years, today was horrible. Front of house normally reflects the manager. In this case, I don't have any way of knowing because I never had the opportunity to speak with a manager. That is fine. Sent a message through restaurant website and never received a response, which is the best indicator of how a business owner or manager values customer inputs. read more

First time in for dinner. Nice atmosphere and quickly greeted/seated. Drink order taken promptly and a very caring server. Help was offered and questions answered thoroughly about menu items. Very impressed. 1/2 cream of crab 1/2 md crab soup was very good. Only comment is that it was light on crab meat. Calamari was excellent. The crab dip burger was cooked and seasoned to PERFECTION! This was a home run. We came here with a group of 12 after a lacrosse tournament. They had a table set up for us outside. Large selection of beer and specialty drinks.
