This stay was incredibly disappointing. First, the hotel lost power twice during my stay. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The AC also struggled to keep up with the big windows.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The hotel nickel-and-dimes guests at every turn. Valet parking is $58 per day and is mandatory--there is no self-parking option. The valet staff were also surprisingly demanding. Instead of greeting guests professionally, it felt more like "give me your key, give me your key" the second you pulled up. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The room wasn't much better. The main bed was extremely uncomfortable, and the rainfall shower is one of the worst I've used.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The water pressure is weak, and you have to stand at a weird angle just to get under the stream.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The elevators constantly made loud, unsettling noises, which didn't exactly inspire confidence.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The restaurant is overpriced and underwhelming. The pancakes were decent, but almost everything else was forgettable, especially for the prices they charge. They also advertise happy hour but conveniently don't offer it on holidays, including Juneteenth and Father's Day. Oh and they add a 20% service fee when its not even good service! [[HIGHLIGHT]]The pool is tiny and gets overcrowded very quickly.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]If you're expecting a relaxing pool experience, think again.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] And don't expect complimentary water either--one bottle costs $5-$8. To top it all off, even basic things like ordering a matcha seemed to be a challenge. Overall, this hotel charges luxury prices while delivering a very average experience. Between the mandatory expensive valet, uncomfortable rooms, power outages, overpriced food, and constant extra charges, I would not stay here again.Unreal! read more

We booked a pool pass between getting off a cruise and our late afternoon flight. $40 got us access to the pool , a shady chair, beach towels and access to a gym and restroom. They also stored our luggage. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The Lobby is clean and looks nice.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]The pool is not huge but it did the job.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We arrived around 9 and had our pick of chairs. [[HIGHLIGHT]]By noon, it did get busy.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] They are also across the street from the beach. Staff was efficient and friendly. Including returning my wallet that I accidentally left at the front desk. Based on these experiences, I'd return in the future. read more

I was in the area and decided to stop by for a bite to eat. I've heard about Steelpan for some time now. [[HIGHLIGHT]]They weren't too busy and had seating on the outdoor patio available. Beautiful ocean view and you can hear the waves.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The server was friendly and helpful, which is always appreciated. I ordered an old fashioned and since there weren't many gluten free options I decided on the caesar salad with a grilled chicken breast. My drink was great and I really enjoyed it. Now for the salad, I requested it with no croutons because gluten. And they brought out a salad with, you guessed it filled with croutons. The server removed the dish and said it would be done over. A few seconds later the salad turned. As I ate, might I add it was a delicious salad, I noticed croutons still in the salad which was disappointing. On one occasion, the valet lost my keys and took 23 minutes to locate them. On another day, I called from my room to request my car, but when I arrived downstairs, they had no record of my request and I waited an additional 20 minutes. One evening when I returned to the hotel, no one came to greet me; the valet attendants remained at their station and waited for me to walk over and hand them my keys. The restaurant in the lobby was also disappointing. The food was average, the service was poor, and they include an automatic 20% gratuity--regardless of the quality of service provided. I likely will not stay here again. While I wasn't expecting a five-star experience, I did expect basic, competent customer service, which the hotel consistently failed to deliver. read more

We stayed here as a staycation for the Florida panthers Stanley cup championship parade. While the hotel was at 100% capacity they were very attentive and made sure we had a good time. Stayed here a couple of weekends ago and couldn't have been more happy with my stay. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The views from the hotel were amazing, spanning from south to north and even east to west.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]You may actually be able to experience a sunrise and a sunset, depending on your room. She noticed a mistake about my daughter not having cheese in her eggs and corrected it immediately and on her own. We returned a night later and dined for dinner with the rest of my daughters. I felt this place was great, but it does have a limited menu. If you spend more than $25.00 at the restaurant then your parking is complementary. So my friend had the boneless rib eye and claimed it was great. Served just right with 2 sides. I had the impossible burger and felt it was great, upper level ingredience such as bibb lettuce and the bread which was a sweet oat and not the usual. Portions were enough if not on the larger side. Would like to see homemade iced tea here but the one they offer is good enough. Patrick is a one man show but he does his job well and he does it right. In honor of caribbean heritage month a couple of my friends decided to try Steelpan's happy hour. They offer a daily happy hour from 5-7. Now if you are looking for a true caribbean restaurant... this ain't it! But why am I giving them 4 stars you ask.. well bc if you look at them as a beach/vacation vibe restaurant, it hits! So that's what we are going to do! It's beautifully decorated && has wonderful view of the ocean. The staff is great! Shout out to the manger Destiny! She was AMAZING! Very friendly, accommodating, and knowledgeable about the menu. From the happy hour menu we order the tacos, fries, callaloo dip, bbq flatbread. The food was okay. Lauderdale Dine Out pre-fixe menu (similar to Miami Spice) for $45 per person. Includes appetizer, main entree & dessert. We ordered drinks & a side of yucca fries that were not a part of the options but all well worth it! Appetizers ~ Conch Fritters & Chicken Flatbread. Both amazing & freshly made. Tons of conch in the fritters! Main Entree ~ Coconut Curry Mahi transported me to a tropical island! The curry and coconut flavors were very independent of one another. The rice was saucy & delicious! We also had the 12 Hour Braised Short Ribs which was glazed with an espresso demi sauce! This melted in your mouth delicious! The sides which were mashed potatoes & green beans gave this dish a comfy home feeling. Dessert ~ Key Lime Pie was actually decent tasting adorned with a white chocolate square. The chantilly creme was light & delicious. Not many establishments can pull of a local favorite. The Lava Chocolate Fantasy was warm & rich tasting & paired so well with the coconut vanilla ice cream! Cocktails ~ the Cucumber Fizz is traditionally made with Vodka. He just let us know he was having problems. My other half and I said let's go as she felt he was being rude. We didn't need to know about his problems. Everything was delicious! I wish I could remember our servers name! We had her for every meal on the weekend of the Air & Sea Show and she was EXCELLENT!! I don't think she ever went home to sleep! She was always there and always with a smile. An extremely pleasant server as well as a excellent server! For breakfast I had their Island French Toast which was stuffed with Guava & cream cheese and dusted with cinnamon, BLT Sandwich which was bacon, lettuce, tomato, Swiss cheese, fried egg on a brioche bun. This sandwich was my favorite and after I switched the cheese to cheddar it was perfect. My son had a omelet made with shrimp which he said was delicious. It was on their brunch menu. They were very accommodating and they made it for him for breakfast. The breakfasts are served with a choice of potatoes or fruit. For dinner one evening we had their Caribbean Jerk Wings which were delicious!! For a cocktail I had the very delicious Tropical Splash. I also had their Island Coconut Shrimp Tacos with a side of yucca fries with mojo garlic sauce. Everything was delicious. if you live in the area I would recommend this as a breakfast, lunch, dinner or maybe some cocktails spot. It's literally steps away from the sand. When we were there they had live music. I'm not sure if it was because of the busy weekend with the Air Show or if they have live music every weekend. Additionally, we asked to see a lunch menu after seeing only six items on the brunch menu but were told they could not serve lunch that early. As soon as I heard that the Sonesta Fort Lauderdale Beach Hotel had a new Caribbean-American Fusion restaurant named "Steelpan," I knew I had to try it out. The restaurant is plenty spacious for socially distant seating, very comfortable with good views. I started right in with one of their special cocktails, a "Bourbon Smash," comprised of Maker's Mark, muddled blackberries, lemon, some simple syrup for a sweetener, and a twig of mint. It was really very good, very refreshing and a nice way to start off my meal. Then, for a starter, I ordered their prawn cocktail ($17.00) which came with four jumbo shrimp sided with a most delicious fried avocado top with fresh fruit salsa. Really very good, particularly the fried avocado. For my entrée, I went for their "Jerked Chicken & Dumplings" ($23.00) with jerked spice roasted chicken and a most interesting pineapple relish sided with green beans. Again, I was most pleased. If they want to call their foods Caribbean-American Fusion, I'd say they've done a pretty good job in living up to it. read more

I enjoyed strolling just up the street to Hugh Taylor Birch State Park (pedestrians welcome, $2 entry includes a complimentary golf-cart tour with Joe the volunteer on Mondays) & the French Bakery literally around the corner (excellent croissant, coffee & quiche) This place is worth the price in many ways, including its location to the beach. This evening's dinner choice for the Crave event was Steelpan. Its located in the Sonesta Hotel (Sunrise and A1A). Valet parking is free if you spent $25 or $35 in the restaurant (valet ticket is stamped). Steelpan used to be a Japanese restaurant (I forgot the name). We made reservations and were seating right away. Luckily we got there just in time to catch the last minutes of happy hour (4-7). Our waitress Kelly came by and told us about the restaurant and the chef and the menu. She also informed us about taking advantage of happy hour since there was 3 minutes left. Prior to coming here, a friend in our party, had called and made reservations. Robby came by and introduced himself as the person who took our reservation. Talk about incredible service!! Steelpan is an American Caribbean fusion restaurant. The menu is incredible. I had the Caribbean Jerk Chicken Wings, Jerk Chicken and Dumplings and the Pineapple Rum Cake off of the Crave Menu. The Ahi Tuna Poke is a favorite dish among visitors. I like the open patio type seating with views of the ocean. A large portion is covered. My overall impression is 5 stars!!! read more

The bartender was very attentive and made a great Pina colada she even made accommodated my daughter with a miami vice. The drinks were great. The appitetizers were good. This is probably one of the best small hotel restaurants I ever visited! This place is in Sonesta Hotel on Fort Lauderdale Beach. I stayed there for work for a day (I know, the best kind of work trips) and grabbed both drinks/dinner and breakfast from this place. And I have to say, wow, all of these are really good. I was going to grab 2 glasses of Prosecco and be done for the evening, but then can't resist when the server handed over the happy hour menu. Serious, what? How do I even say no to $8 BBQ Chicken flatbread by the beach? And when it came out, first, the portion size really surprised me, pretty much fed me for the night; but then best of all is that even to a half drunk butt, this tasted AMAZING!! Super thin and crispy, lots of chicken, lightly sauced, also topped with arugula, what an $8 fanciness! Also for breakfast, the portions are huge for $16 in South Florida by the beach! This is an amazing deal even for somewhere else. Not to mention everything was so good that I didn't leave a single flake on plate. Overall, I don't know if I would go out of my way to come eat at this place if I'm not staying here, but I will for sure come back if I'm back to this hotel! read more

Attended the Lauderdale dine out for my cousin's birthday. The staff was amazing. Very attentive and super friendly. The bartender's drinks were on point. She even came to check on us to make sure we were satisfied with the drinks. The pina colada with the extra shot was so good. For the appetizer I had the coconut shrimp which was crunchy on the outside with a little sweet from the coconut and chewy shrimp in the middle. We also had for the table callaloo spinach dip. This was also delicious and very similar to a spinach dip. For the entree I had the blackened Mahi. It was OK. Not the greatest but not terrible either. The mango salsa was a nice compliment to the fish but the mashed potatoes and the fish needed a bit more flavor. For dessert, I had the key lime pie. Again, it was ok. Not terrible but I've had better. The service made up for the food which is why I gave 4 stars. read more

My wife decided that this was where she wanted to eat at on Mother's Day. We had never eaten here before and it seemed like a good option. The Air Show was going on that weekend and thus, we knew it was going to be very crowded. She made a reservation for 10:30am; however, we arrived at the restaurant at 10:15am and the host told us they couldn't make reservations before 11;30am. We asked to speak with a. manager and he arrived within a few minutes. We told him the situation and he found our reservation; it was for 11:30am. My wife stated that she spoke with two people (on the phone) and they both agreed to change the time to 10:30am. That didn't happen. So the manager explained to us that there were two tables that could seat six people and they both were finishing up soon. We ended up waiting approximately fifteen-twenty minutes before one of the tables got up and left. Another annoying aspect was that the people she spoke with, on the phone, told her that there was a $100 minimum to sit outside. They also told her that the buffet was $75/person. The manager informed us that this was incorrect; there was no minimum to sit outside and the buffet was $28/person. The only buffet issue was that it was 11:00am when we finally sat down and our server told us the buffet closes at 11:30am. So I made sure that the kids and I got our money's worth (they were half price). Because of the time, they didn't refill anything on the buffet. You do get a drink with it (soda, iced tea, juice, coffee, etc.) and I ordered a Diet Pepsi. The server was a little slow in refilling the drinks although she was busy. The food at the buffet was average. There also weren't a lot of options at the buffet. Would I eat here again? Possibly. I just probably wouldn't come back here on any sort of holiday. read more

A wonderful restaurant in the Sonesta resort in N. Fort Lauderdale. Have been staying there 3times a year for the last 4 years. Delicious food , breakfast,, happy hour, and dinner. Staff is awesome and so friendly and welcoming. Indoor and outdoor seating with great views of the beach directly across the street. A wonderful venue for a family or couples vacation visit.
