Great dive bar for beers! Stopped in and had a couple of rounds of brews on tap. Great service. Small outside seating in the front of the house with views of the bay as it's near the ferry terminal. My brother and I recently went up north to visit a bunch of family in the Tacoma area. You know how family-time goes - after hours of lecturing on uncomfortable subjects (I was subjected to "feminine hygiene" lectures from my aunt more than once... ugh... She even lectured my mom! Ha!), we desperately needed to get out - with an emphasis on having a beer. We sneaked out and cruised over to Steilacoom to see what they had to offer (awesome little town, by the way). Jake's was a little too posh - my brother and I like rough-around-the-edges pubs. I spotted this pub and we gave it a try. It has a hearty beer selection and a friendly, knowledgeable staff. The bartender was visibly excited when she found out we weren't from there, and were unfamiliar with WA beers. She gave us a ton of samples and recommendations. It became our vacation away from our vacation. Much needed. Didn't get to try the food, but cousins said its pretty good - especially the clam chowder. Came here because of a Groupon deal I got with Restaurants.com but it's unlikely I will be returning. For an establishment that is connected with a company offering deals, the cashiers were consistently so "inconvenienced" when I told them I had an offer code. Even after deducting the amount for my coupon, she asked me "Do you have a calculator? I'm so bad at math". She's a cashier and had to ask me to pull out my phone to do some simple subtraction. I ordered fettuccine alfredo and it was honestly the worst plate of pasta I've ever had. The pasta was hardened and dried out, and the sauce was oily with chunks of "cheese". This is probably a fine place to grab a drink on the weekend with friends, but I definitely wouldn't recommend eating here for any meals. read more

Trying to support local businesses during COVID. We got takeout and the lady was super nice taking our order over the phone. We got chili cheese fries to share that were bomb! I got the Steilacoom gobbler with clam chowder. My kids got an Italian sub and a cheese burger. We also got fish and chips which they hand dip. We did get a side salad with one of our orders that was huge and could have been it's own meal. Overall it was really good. The clam chowder seemed a bit overcooked-it was good but had the gooey consistency of it sitting in a pot for a long period of time. Otherwise it was great! read more

I was surprised with the food at the Steilacoom Pub and Grill. It was actually pretty darn good. The food was very fresh, which I didn't expect from a dive bar. I didn't get a good look at the restaurant side but the bar is very divey. Our waitress was very pleasant and she took good care of our group of 8. I can't recall the name of what I ordered but it was essentially French Dip. There was a lot of flavor in this sandwich and the au jus. It was very tasty. Since they don't serve French fries, I tried the potato salad and it was pretty good as well. Everyone in our group seemed to enjoy their meal. read more

To update my last review for accuracy: There is another restroom in the pub for a total of two and it is handicap accessible. Food update: A second visit had me ordering a burger and fries with fried oyster strips for an appetizer. The oyster strips were great and those fries just can't be beat!! The burger was delicious but my bleu cheese and onion burger had too much bleu cheese and onions. I know that sounds funny, but for me it was too much; both were falling out of the burger and all into the basket. I can't get over how good the typical pub food is here and at a great price too. There was a tiny thing of ranch for a fairly large salad. The ketchup tasted like crap. How do you mess up ketchup. The mac bites were gonna put back in our oven cuz they were kinda mushy. The steak was dry & bland AF. Even with A1. My husband had to track down our drink. My kid got chili fries, with very little chili on it. They did not come back to see how we were doing. Super unamused. We went to an Anthonys homeport recently which is FANCY and there we got calamari appetizer, complimentary bread, AMAZING meals and 2 drinks. I figured I would give this place another shot at food service. Well I came in tonight on August 15,2020 and I will say that the place doesn't look like a tavern/dive anymore. It's all kids running it. However It was much cleaner than I've seen before. Which should be expected after this virus everywhere. But honestly the food is horrible. Tasteless, very small portions now, and the staff doesn't listen to your order to get it correct. I had to send my meal back. When they finally delivered it again. It was pathetic and gross. I'm so disappointed after waiting over thirty mins and checking on the food three times ( around twenty min when they told me they are bringing it out) it still isn't out. Staff were so rude, there was only two tables of 2 people including us and the service was still so slow and three workers two just stood talking while one worked rudely. The nachos were microwaved with shredded cheeses along with other toppings. This is prolly the place you go to drink so you don't care how service and food and cleanliness is. Bathroom had pee all over it and trash was all over. I have never written a review before but I felt so upset I feel others should know my experience. Since I am not a local they did not treat me very welcomed. I ordered a burger and they took 30 minutes to bring it out to me. But before that they walked around the whole bar trying to find me after I waved them down telling them it was my burger. Then they gave ny food to another person and then he started eating the fries. After that they took it from him and brought it to my table half eaten. I was so upset and I would never go back again! This place is super nasty, the water tasted like plastic, they have indoor seating and very loosely, if at all, follow covid guidelines. Felt very unsanitary and very unsafe. People are seen all over the restaurant without masks having conversations as they walk wherever. Not to mention it is $12 for a cheeseburger with fries. Drinks from the fountain should be avoided as they are only about 4 ounces if you get ice and the refills are limited to one. Tables could have been cleaner and the floor need swept. My boyfriend and I were looking for a place to sing karaoke in the area, so we decided to stop by on a Saturday night. They have a really small parking lot, we were lucky to get a good parking spot up front. The location seems good. It's right on the corner of a main road leading down to the Anderson Ferry dock. If you stand/sit out in the front you have a view of the water which is nice. We grabbed a table near the door. The table & chairs were sticky. The bar reeked of chili. The service was horrible. I totally understand bars that you have to go tot he front for drinks, but when you have 2 employees just standing around doing nothing and don't even bother to say hi welcome, that's not cool. My boyfriend went to what he thought was the bar and the girl was really rude about it not being the bar. The bar line was all the way at the end and very long. There were tables blocking the way and was just extremely poorly designed. The sound was horrible. In fact, it hurt my ears and we were sitting at the very end opposite the music. The karaoke host was not nice, at all. We left after singing 1 song. It wasn't worth our time or $ to stick around. read more

Having spent literally every single day of the summer of 2005 here, it is only fitting that I write my 200th yelp review of this establishment. Yes, I have been back there many times since that crazy summer and as much as I try to forget it, this local landmark will always remind me of that wild and ridiculous time in my life. This is a beer/wine joint only. But before you freak out, the selection of brews is pretty incredible. I used to always get the cider beer or rotate the different Belgian beers however once my pocket book started to shrink, I was content with my well priced PBR in the can. The staff here is pretty friendly although their deli girls seem to have a high turn over so you never know what you're walking into. Bartenders are always smiling and they tell the most hilarious jokes. If you come often enough, you'll become a regular and get to learn everyone's business. This can be a good thing or a bad thing... depending on what you want out of life. Situated right on the water, you'll enjoy beautiful views while sitting on their patio. There is a back patio, too, which hosts a great, covered smoking area for those who like to light up when they drink. Bottom line, this place is pretty awesome. Very reasonably priced beers and half way decent bar food. My advice to you would be to exit carefully as this is located in a small town and the local sheriff (for lack of a better term) will sit outside and watch you stumble to your car. The service is terrible. (Up-front and honest to the core!) If you can get over that, it's great. I don't see why they won't fire their entire waitstaff and start over. A serious rebuild is required. If there was that one that was okay, it doesn't matter. The rest of them ruined it for everyone. It might as well be self-service. You would think that Steilacoom as a town(?) was over-employed and they couldn't find decent help. I've tried this place off and on for years. The chili with the pretty good sandwiches keeps me coming back. Last sandwich... I had to ask the server after flagging him down and cornering him before he ran into the kitchen to ignore me... "I thought the chili used to come with onions and sour cream?" He replied, "I will bring that right out." No, I wrapped the other half of the sandwich in a paper towel, asked for my check, and said that I wouldn't be needing the sour cream or onions since it was an hour later. Trivia night was fun. First time here...we were sitting for about ten minutes before we realized you had to walk up to the counter to place your order. I ordered fish & chips for about $20 with the soda, seemed a bit pricey. Fries were delicious but the fish was undercooked so I sent it back. I ordered a turkey sandwich instead and said I basically wanted a blt with turkey and avocado...simple order. They delivered a roast beef sandwich by mistake and then brought me my order but they forgot the turkey and fries. I asked for a plate of turkey so I could fix it and the gal brought it out right away, apologizing. The rest of my party was done eating so I only got to eat half my sandwich before leaving. I was working all last week near Steilacoom and had the pleasure of dining at the Steilacoom Pub and Grill twice. Before we go any further - I have to say I enjoy the gritty charm of a dive bar. So if you're only happy dining at restaurants with fancy French waiters with curled mustaches and tuxedos this certainly is not the place for you. It's definitely a dive - but I mean that in a good way. This is a place where you can come as you are and enjoy some good, sloppy pub food. The first time I came I had a clam chowder in the bread bowl. Whenever I'm in Washington, I make a point of getting clam chowder somewhere and this is the best I've so far. It really tastes homemade and not like someone dumped a can of Campbell's into a microwave safe bowl. It was just the cozy meal I needed on a chilly northwest evening. I ate there again later in the week and had fish and chips. I really liked them - their fries are fantastic and I really don't get excited about fries very often. The battered cod was so greasy I could only eat a little, but was pretty yummy. Steilacoom Pub and Grill is cozy, stark, and a little gritty - but if you don't need frills to get your dining thrills check it out! read more

My friend & I ended up here after our phones died & had no Yelp to tell us where to go for food (we were visiting from Portland.) We roamed the quaint streets of Steilacoom keeping a keen eye out for restaurants. Alas! We spotted an adorable place adorned with bistro lights & took a sharp turn into the lot! The outdoor seating is awesome! If it were so cold we'd have sat out there. We walked inside & "dive bar" was the first thing that popped in my head. Not a terrible thing if the city the dive bar in is decent. The service is friendly, order at the counter. We sat in the dining area, away from the bar/billiards. The tables were nice & clean. I ordered a veggie burger with a side salad & my friend got a cheese burger, side salad & Mac & cheese. Props to the hard working cook! We vaccumed our food up quick! The burgers were delicious! I don't know if it was because we were so hungry or what but I say the food was awesome! My veggie burger did not lack flavor, the salad was really good too. All the produce in it was fresh. The Mac & cheese, however, was straight up from a box. It's ok, I mean, it's a bar. I don't expect gourmet Mac. Overall decent place to pop in for some food & watch a game! read more

The Pub sandwich & the chili are my go to items here. It can get busy during games. Beer selection is good but pricey. Depending on the cook, the food can be just okay to very good. OK - this is my take from a "family" perspective. Not worth cheating on a diet for -- but I can see how it would have the sentimental value (and, therefore, a 5-star Yelp) from true locals. We decided to try out this little spot for a lunch. We brought (as we usually do) all our kids -- 4 of 'em ranging between newborn and 7yrs. old. The service was sad. We really had some problems with a couple key "kid-friendly" dining must-haves -- first off, the food for the adults was served nearly 10 minutes BEFORE the kids. This is a BIG no-no. Next, we had to pay extra for ranch to dip the fries into. If you are paying $5+ for a grilled cheese, you should be able to have "complimentary" dip included. We did not like that you were expected to tip BEFORE you got served the food (if paying by credit). This is because you order at the counter, pay, take a number, then sit. I get it - it's easier - but we would have tipped differently. Service?? - what service? And the "delivery" of the food to the table was SLOW -- esp. for the kids (which will deter us from returning with them.) Food: Kids ordered grilled cheese (how could you mess that up? - it was good.) and Mac-N-Cheese (looked very overcooked .. and clumpy -- but kid loved it regardless). Each kid meal was $5.50 - included the dish and a bag 'o chips. Seemed steep for what it was. Adults ordered Sweet Potato Fries (Good! But had to pay extra money for ranch side... and basket of fries were over $5). Chili was good and so was the Clam Chowder. As far as sandwiches, the Focaccia was REALLY soggy. Way too much mayo -- and very little flavor. - Can't recommend it. The Italian sub (once some of the mayo was taken off) was good, though (pretty standard sub). Seemed like it would go well with a beer on a nice day. All-in-all, this is less than what we had expected, but what we should have expected. I may have reviewed differently if with only adults enjoying the Sound view and a beer -- but that wasn't my reality for that meal. Prices seem high for mediocre food (at best) - 2 adults and 3 kids (all drinking water) came to $49. But, there's really no competition in this town. So, either drive 15 min. the other direction, or just readjust your expectations. read more

I came here with a group of six on a Friday evening. My first time here, but others in the group had been before. Checked the reviews before coming and from that wasn't expecting much. I was pleasantly surprised. Our group ordered the Fish and Chips, Burgers and a Steak Special. All turned out to be pretty good. I and one other had a Blue Cheese burger and it was great. Good crisp lettuce and tomato and a tasty burger patty. It came with a mountain of fries that were also very good. The folks that had the fish and chips indicated they were very good as well. The big surprise was the Steak Special (for Fridays). The steak was large, tasty and cooked perfectly with the great fries and a salad on the side. Those drinking beer praised the beers they had from the many choices on-tap. Ordering at the counter was a bit inconvenient and being asked about a tip when ordering was odd but workable. The staff was friendly and provided good service. The four-star rating rather than five is for the long wait for half of our order. Three of our group got their orders quickly and were done eating by the time the other three orders came. Other reviewers had complained about the cleanliness of the place, but it was clean and well-ordered when we were there. My order of the Burger with fries and an order of onion rings to share came to just over $20 which seemed a fair price to me. All in all a pleasant surprise. I will definitely go back. read more

I used to come here for trivia every Monday when I lived in the neighborhood. The food isn't too exciting to write home about but I liked having the trivia and some of their snacks to munch on. They used to have a basket of popcorn for $1 I believe and that was often something to munch while we pondered our trivia answers. Kind of evens one another out. Both times we ordered the nachos appetizer. Serving is huge and loaded, but almost too greasy - both times my husband & I ended up with upset stomachs later. Second trip the kids came and ordered burgers & fries. Burgers were great (they say) but fries were way over-fried and hard. All in all, this place has a lot of events and the friendly servers outshine the lacklustre servers. I've been here a handful of times and typically the service is TERRIBLE, but I was pleasantly surprised with my visit yesterday! The lady that helped me was sweet and attentive. As for the food...I always think it's going to be better than it actually is. I got the my gosha foccacia on a french roll (BIG mistake) and served cold. I always forget that their french rolls are nothing more than two day old bread from albertsons. The bread was stale and ridiculously huge, which I don't mind, but the bread crumbled like no other when I took a bite into it. It really did ruin my lunch...what is a sandwich with stale bread?? I also ordered the jalapeno poppers, which were okay. I'm not a huge fan of cornmeal breading, and you could tell they were baked, not fried. My favorite last stop before I hit the ferry! I started visiting the pub to kill time whenever I missed the ferry to Anderson Island, now I miss the ferry so I can stop and have a drink and pick up dinner. The bar staff is excellent and the drinks are poured strong. The Steilacoom Gobbler is one of my all time favorite sandwiches and the nachos, sweet potato fries, deep fried mushrooms, and cheese burgers (fixed to the nines with grilled onions!) are also excellent. If you happen to be there on a Monday, make sure to order the meatloaf; it's better than grandma could make! The only drawback is the small and unpaved parking lot and the questionable bar bathrooms. If nature calls ladies, be sure to use the bathroom in the front of the building. read more
