The arugula pesto on the sammy was very tasty, and the pizza was decent - to be fair we had just eaten at a really amazing pizza place the night before so hard not to compare. My BF ordered a glass of Barbera and loved it. I enjoyed a small batch ginger ale to help recover from sipping too much wine the day prior.

I have spent most of my life in the restaurant business, owning and operating multiple restaurants, so I understand how difficult it is to deliver the complete experience- from the kitchen to the dining-room floor. After dining at Stella on August 16, my honest assessment is that this restaurant has an excellent kitchen, but the service and floor management are failing to support it. Let me begin with what Stella does well: the food. I would give it a solid 4.5 out of 5. The restaurant's open kitchen is built around a Mibrasa wood-fired grill fueled with white oak, and that live-fire cooking brings a depth of flavor and char that you simply cannot fake. The kitchen team clearly understands how to control the fire and use it properly. The flavors throughout our meal were fantastic, and the pork chop was exceptional. The restaurant itself was clean, fresh, and visually appealing, with plenty of eye candy and interesting details throughout. Unfortunately, that is where the excellence ended. The restaurant appeared to be only about 40% full, yet I watched approximately 12 to 14 employees milling around and acting busy while the most basic responsibilities of service were ignored. At one point, members of the waitstaff were leaning against the counter as though they were holding it up. That is unprofessional and should never be visible to guests in a properly managed restaurant. From my perspective, the manager appeared more interested in being friends with the employees than in actually leading them. There is nothing wrong with having a friendly relationship with your staff, but a manager must still provide direction, maintain standards, create urgency, and hold people accountable. None of that seemed to be happening. Our server took our order, but that was essentially where his service ended. Not once did he return to ask how our appetizers were, how we were enjoying our entrées, or whether everything was right with our desserts. I ordered one beer and normally would have ordered several more, but I was never offered another. We were a large party and would have gladly purchased more wine, but no one came back to ask. After we finished our appetizers, the empty plates sat in front of us for more than 10 minutes. After our entrées, the plates remained on the table for more than 20 minutes.... and I am not exaggerating. Meanwhile, the bus staff appeared completely lost, as though they did not recognize that empty plates sitting in front of guests needed to be cleared. Dessert service followed the same pattern. We had to repeat our order several times, and it was still misunderstood. There is absolutely nothing wrong with writing an order down. If you are not experienced enough to memorize it accurately, use a notepad. Repeatedly asking guests to restate their order and still getting it wrong demonstrates a serious need for additional training. Our final bill was more than $500. When a server is attentive and takes proper care of our table, I have no problem tipping 20% or more. That would have been a tip exceeding $100. But tell me: why should I leave that kind of tip when the server did little more than take our order- and even faltered at that? There was no follow-up, no table maintenance, no beverage service, and no effort to determine whether we were enjoying our experience. What exactly would I be tipping for? To Mr. Ari Weiswasser..... you are losing money, my friend. Guests cannot order another beer, another bottle of wine, or anything else when no one checks on them. More importantly, poor service overshadows the tremendous work being done by your kitchen. A successful restaurant should operate like an A-to-Z orchestra, with every person understanding their role and working together from the moment guests arrive until they leave. Stella currently feels like a 50/50 operation. The kitchen and its Mibrasa grill are producing excellent food, but the dining-room staff and management are letting the entire operation down. Will I return........? Possibly, because the food was truly excellent. The back of the house deserves the limelight, they were unquestionably the winners of the evening. However, the floor staff need serious training, and the manager needs to step forward and properly lead the team before Stella's service can match the quality coming from its kitchen. read more

It's a perfect example of Stella's dedication to using fresh, local ingredients in innovative ways. The house-made pastas are a standout, showcasing the expertise of Chef Ari Weiswasser and his team. Among them, the rigatoni alla Bolognese ($29) deserves special mention. We've dined several times at the glen ellen star and every time is an absolute treat so we headed to the sister restaurant located off of hwy 12 in cozy little kenwood. My wife and I were seated right away by the gracious host and we're attended to immediately. We started off with a white negroni and a lemoncello fizz to drink while we read over the menu. The burratta and walnut was an absolute treat paired with perfectly grilled sourdough bread. Up next we had the watermelon and tomato salad with fresh local produce from Glen tucky farms. We moved on to a few glasses of mason sav blanc a perfect pairing recommended by our very nice and knowledgeable server j.d. For our main courses we had the rib eye 'almost finished it' and the cresta di gallo pasta. My wife and I split a glass of Grey stack grenache to save room for dessert. For our meal, we ordered the Crudo, a Caesar salad, and the prosciutto pasta. The pasta was a standout--fresh, homemade, and absolutely delicious. We also tried the bread, which was surprisingly excellent. A big shoutout to the staff, Renee and Dom, for going above and beyond to make our experience special. Their attentiveness and hospitality really elevated the evening. Right now, Stella is only open for dinner starting at 4:30 PM, but I'm hoping they'll expand to include lunch service and maybe even a happy hour in the future. Stella just gets it. The vibe is laid-back but still feels special... the kind of place you can show up in jeans and still feel like you're out somewhere nice. I started with the blood orange margarita (low-proof, but fully delicious), and it's one of those drinks you could easily have two of without realizing it. What an amazing addition to Kenwood and wine country as a whole. We frequent Napa Valley for the majority of our dinners but we are thrilled to have something on the Sonoma side that's equally as good! We just got back from my birthday dinner at Stella and everything was so delicious! We had the mozzarella and tomatoes, kids butter pasta (for our two little ones), rigatoni pork and beef ragu, wagyu denver steak, and almond cake. The light beers we ordered were highly carbonated and we would have preferred a Peroni. The service from our server Fox was great, he was friendly and attentive during our meal service. The food was reasonably priced and the restaurant is a small intimate setting.
