Went here for the first time on Friday night before a show at the Lakeshore Theater and I was very pleased! Our server was awesome and funny! She made you feel at ease and checked on us regularly. I had the blueberry pancakes which were very yummy and plenty of food. I also had a side of bacon. Now bacon is one of my favorite things to eat and I enjoy eating it very, very crispy - close to burnt. Time and time again I tell servers at other diners "well done/burnt bacon" and it comes back soggy and mushy. But not at Stella's! It was absolutely perfect and I got 6 strips! Mmmmmm.... My fiance got the Mexican jolt - an omelet skillet - and he was very pleased. Lots of ground beef, eggs done right, and overall a lot of food. This placed rocked and we will definitely be going back! I really enjoyed this place. Went here the other night with a few friends. The service was extremely friendly, genuine, and attentive; which makes a big impact for me. I ordered an avocado burger, which is one of my favorite things ever. I couldn't believe it was actually a standard item on the menu! (Usually you have to add avo for like $2 extra.) It was cooked perfectly for me at medium rare, and there was a very generous amount of fresh avocado right on top. I was really impressed; it was delicious. Fries were good too. The price was completely fair. My friends ordered burgers and chicken tenders, and everyone was satisfied. It's a great little spot, and I would go there over Clarke's ANY DAY. Usually a breakfast visitor at Stealls....wanted a quick but filling dinner so stopped by Stellas to see what other meals there were like. Glad we did! When we walked in we were welcomed by a chipper and outgoing host. He told us to sit wherever we would like and then when we chose the booth he said thats our seat anytime we come in! Great way to personalize the service! We ordered our meal...food was good. Just as good as breakfast! I was happy. Went to pay and ended up in a 10-15 minute conversation with the man working the register that greeted us when we entered. Come to find out, it was Gus, son of the late owners. Found out that the restaurant has been there for 50 years and him and his sister (Who is always there at breakfast and is equally hospitable) run it. Gus made us feel welcome. I felt like I could sit there and talk to Gus for hours! I am looking forward to going back in the evenings when he is there to chat and enjoy great food. Stopped by Stella's last week with my husband and two small sons. It was a fantastic experience. It wasn't the food that won me over, although it was good, but rather the amazing service we received from the owner Gus. He really went out of his way to make everyone feel like they were family. He even asked if he could "borrow" my baby, and took him around the restaurant. Really made a mama proud! lol. I would highly recommend Stella's to anyone with kids looking for a cozy place to dine. The food was good (classic diner fare), the atmosphere was great. My only regret is how long I waited to try out Stella's. We will be back for sure! read more

If you are looking for reasonably priced, non-fussy diner food with a bit of personality, then eat here. They have the basics you know and love (bacon cheeseburger, breakfast skillets) and some really delicious alternatives if you are looking for something different (bleu cheese pecan salad or chicken & apple sausage sandwich are winners). Breakfast!! Hobo skillet is the best! Although this time around I got scrambled eggs with a fruit bowl and wheat toast. I asked for a regular coke to start and ended up with a diet. It was promptly switched out when I made a comment so that was nice. I did however, show up around noon on a sunday, so of course it was busy. Overall though, the breakfast food is delicious here. It was so good, we ate at Stella's twice during a three day visit to Chicago...once for lunch and back for breakfast the next day. The food was very fresh and really delicious. The ham on the Country Eggs Benedict was incredible (they roast a whole ham daily). Very friendly service. Great place for breakfast, lunch or dinner. It's right down the street from where I live so really convenient. It gets extremely busy on weekend mornings from 10:00 a.m to noon, so be prepared to wait. However the servers are quick so they keep things moving. All of their meals are pretty good, especially the french toast and pancakes for breakfast. Some of the servers are pretty colorful in terms of personality, but it's all in good fun. The only complaint I have is getting kicked out at 9:30 one night when they are supposed to be open until 10:00. Not sure what that was about since we were just sitting and talking after we paid our bill. But that's the worst thing I can say about it! read more

I love Stella's. Not because the food is incredible (it's decent...real decent) but for the ambiance. It's super casual. Paintings of comic book characters decorate the walls (they are apparently for sale, too, but the sticker price is crazily inflated). There is also a framed picture of the Virgin Mary holding baby J adorned with some palms up in the front of the restaurant. No worries if you're not a Catholic or a comic book fan, they will still serve you. The menu is basic diner with a few exceptions, the west-coaster and french toast on challah. Breakfast foods will run you waaay than lunch/dinner style foods-and they've got breakfast all day. i like the oatmeal with berries, bananas and nuts -Not because it's especially spectacular but because i can eat breakfast at a restaurant without feeling like a fat ass all day. I have lived next door to Stella's for 15 yrs. It is a wonderful place. The owners are all great and the staff as well. I love the food and have NEVER had anything bad there. My favorite breakfast spot! Other breakfast places around - bagel and ann sathers - are so busy it feels like you need to eat fast and get out. The staff at Stellas is amazingly friendly and feels more like friends than servers. The kitchen is so efficient that food comes out and you can relax for a while and leave when you would like.
