Before the procedure, we fully disclosed her serious medical conditions, including severe IBS, malabsorption, and immune-related complications that make repeat surgeries and anesthesia especially difficult and risky for her. After the extractions, we discovered that alveolar ridge preservation (bone grafting) was not performed. When we later asked why this critical step had been omitted, we were not given a clear explanation. We have since consulted other dental professionals who advised us that, because too much time has passed, attempting the procedure now may no longer be effective. What is most troubling is that we were never informed beforehand that bone grafting would not be done, nor were we advised about the potential consequences such as accelerated bone loss and limitations for future dental restoration options. Had we known, we would have made different decisions regarding treatment. As a result, my wife may now require additional surgical procedures that she may not be medically able to tolerate. This situation has caused significant physical pain, emotional distress, treatment delays, and financial burden. We are sharing this experience so that other patients -- especially those with complex medical conditions -- understand the importance of asking detailed questions about treatment planning, bone preservation, and post-extraction care before proceeding with major dental procedures. From the moment I walked into Honest Oral Surgeon, the staff made me feel at ease. They were professional, friendly, and very patient. After taking my X-rays, they carefully explained everything to me and answered all my questions. I also watched a pre-procedure instruction video, which helped me understand what to expect. When I met Dr. Kim, he was professional, clear, and straightforward. He explained my treatment options concisely and also pointed out potential risks related to my other teeth. After discussing everything together, we decided to take a conservative approach -- remove the wisdom teeth first and monitor the other teeth to see if they could recover over time. I really appreciated being involved in the decision-making process. The surgery itself was excellent. It was my first time receiving anesthesia and having teeth extracted, and I can honestly say I felt absolutely no discomfort. Dr. Kim removed both wisdom teeth efficiently and skillfully. (Yes, I could hear the drill and some hammering sounds -- which was a little funny -- but I felt zero pain.) After the procedure, I followed the instructions carefully, took the prescribed medication, and applied ice as recommended. It's now the second day, and I have no pain at all -- not even noticeable swelling. This is actually the longest Yelp review I've ever written, but I truly felt it was deserved. The surgery quote exceeded $3500 with insurance. I went to seek a second opinion with another periodontist and was told by him that my GUMS WERE FINE. He said that there were no issues regarding my gum health and that the intense surgery, involving bone grafts, recommended by Towne Centre Dental was TOTALLY UNNECESSARY. I was shocked, as I was fully prepared to proceed with this costly and highly invasive surgery because I was told by Towne Centre Dental that it was absolutely necessary and that not following through with the surgery could result in tooth loss. The second opinion periodontist reassured me that my gums were fine and that the diagnosis and suggested surgery by the periodontist from Towne Centre Dental was completely unnecessary. Now, this would be shocking enough. But, there's more. I was sharing my story with colleagues at work. After hearing my story, a teaching colleague said, "Wait, what dental office was this?" I told her that it was Towne Centre Dental. She then proceeded to tell me that the SAME THING HAPPENED TO HER, SEVERAL YEARS PRIOR!!! She was given the same diagnosis that I was and was told she needed the same gum surgery with bone grafts. She also happened to seek a second opinion and was told by that dentist that her gums were fine! So, it would appear that my case isn't an isolated incident.
