Needed my car checked out because I was hearing puttering and feeling hesitation when I turned my car on. My dad recommended Sterling Car Care to get my car checked out, as this is his place to go when having car trouble. You can't miss the building with the bright yellow paint. The entrance door is to the right while the garage entrance you can't miss. I dropped my car off Monday late morning and the staff member asked me what was going on. I handed my keys over and was on my way (my kind dad was my ride back home). They called around 5p or so the same day to let know they didn't find any issues. They did a diagnostic and did a tune up at my okay. They closed at 6p and I went on my way to pick up my car. I had a coupon which they accepted without issue and helped with the price of the diagnostic and tune up costs. My car was all the way in the back lot, and I walked through the shop to get to the back. The shop seemed as clean as a car shop can get. I wouldn't bother. There is a place just around the corner on Mound, just north of 18, open on Sat & Sun (closed Mon) I would recommend - Car Doc. I was sent here, Sterling Car Care, for warranty work on my engine, and when I checked in, they asked for my phone #, and the guy said "Last time you were here was in 2005. Why did it take you so long to come back?" Well, obviously because I wasn't happy with the service or prices I received in 2005, and if I had a choice, I wouldn't have picked here for my warranty service. They had my car for 79 days! Thank goodness I got a loaner, but never once did they call me to give me an update on what was happening with my car. I had to check in once a week to get an update. The lack of communication here is awful. then, when I got my car back, they left a screw or tool in the dashboard that would roll back and forth when I turned, my air conditioning didn't work, and there was scratches & a big divot of paint taken off my passenger side. When I showed the manager it, he grunted at me and said "are you sure it wasn't there before?" Yes sir, I'm positive! 3 weeks before you had my car, I had the paint re-done/buffed out/ re-glazed. Then to add insult to injury, 2 days after I picked up my car, I got a text from them saying "welcome to sterling car care! We can give you updates on your car." SMH read more

I went to Sterling Car Care to get my driver's side door handle replaced (it had stopped working), an oil change and a radiator flush and fill. They were close to where I lived and I wanted to give them a try. The repairs were done correctly but I have some major beefs. First, they seemed determined to find ever more things to fix (right down to telling me I needed to get my plastic headlamps polished). Second, they promised that the car would be ready when it wasn't (multiple times; I had to call THEM to find this out). Finally, when I did pick up the car, they tried to charge me for the door handle (a $242 part) twice. I caught this just after I paid. "Oh, we would have seen that eventually anyway," the guy behind the counter said. Sure. It's possible that my experience was an aberration but I wouldn't recommend Sterling Car Care. Dropped my car off about 3 weeks ago still haven't been started dropped it off knowing the water pump an time chainneed to be done ! I was just recently at Sterling car care for front end service on my Truck. They did an front end alignment a tire rotation as well as put upper and lower ball joint's and inner and outer tie rod's and all for a fair price they even drilled out a broken bolt that I had snapped off using my impact wrench a while back from my torsion bar. I even ended up paying less money than expected and got money towards my next maintenance repair or oil change. They did a great job explaining all the work to me and breaking it down on my bill and giving me a detailed layout of the alignment. Unfortunately, my husband had a minor accident and the front bumper became loose and the car became unsafe to drive. We googled the nearest place for auto repair and I thank my lucky stars we came to Sterling Car Care. Mike immediately greeted us and his team quickly inspected our car. Within less than an hour our car was fixed, safe to drive, and ready to go. The price??? Just a little over $100! He gave us his card and informed us he will communicate with the insurance to determine a quote to fix the car to resume its original look and color. When I lived in the area I took my car here all the time. And when I go back to visit family, if it's time for an oil change or rotation, I'll still get it done here. I've never had a problem. Ernie is great. I'm not sure about the people complaining about having to wait for an oil change with nothing but a Readers Digest and the news on mute. They have a 50"+ TV in the waiting area and a computer to use. They also have WiFi. Granted, I've only taken my car in for oil changes and rotations, so I can't speak to how they handle larger issues, but from the experience I've had, I can recommend them. read more

On a Saturday morning I received a call from my wife that her vehicle would not start. She was at a hotel in Sterling Heights on Van Dyke Rd. I called a few places to get the car in and was told no one would be able to help on such short notice on a Saturday. I called the guys at Sterling and when they asked me for my phone number, my account came up in their system. I forgot I had another vehicle serviced almost 7 years ago. They gave me a number to a tow company who could get the vehicle to them quickly. I told them I thought the alternator was bad. Within 30 minutes they had tested the alternator and informed me all I needed was a battery. What I thought would be a $500 repair including the tow ended up only costing $200. They even stayed a little past closing so my wife could retrieve the vehicle. They saved the weekend and my wallet. I highly recommend the guys at Sterling. read more

Hello Mike, I want to inform you of a situation that took place over the weekend on 01/24/2015 Saturday at 9:45 AM. I bring my wife vehicle in 2004 Alero burgundy. A representative name Eric assisted me. I inform Eric that my driver window would not roll down. Eric indicated he would have a tech name John look at it. I sat in the waiting area awaiting the diagnostics. Eric then came to me told me the vehicle needs a Window regulator and that is going to cost $427.00 with a 1 year warranty. I was in all awe at the price and I then stated, "Go ahead and replace it." I then went and sat down again in the waiting area pondering the thought, "why so much. why so much" So I called around to a repair shop for a quote and they stated 200.00 for parts and labor. I went to ask Eric why so much for the total cost. Eric stated because the door has so many components and the small hole that the mechanic has to stick his arm through doesn't give much room to work with and will take a long time. I went to sit down again in the waiting area and at this time I just want the vehicle fixed. Eric again approaches me in the waiting area and stated he needed to talk to me again. Eric then told me that the clips broke on the window and that I'm going to needed a window also. Eric then walked me back into the garage and showed me how the clips had broken off. Eric and I then walk back up front to discuss the additional cost. Eric then indicated to give him a few minutes and he will do some research. Eric came back into the waiting area and told me let's talk. Eric stated that with the window regulator and window it would cost $420.00 but he could save me $9.00 and the total would be $411.00. Eric also stated if I wanted a new window then the cost would be $578.00. So I suggested going ahead with the used window. At 12:30 PM Eric then called numerous of vendors and was unsuccessful in finding a window for my vehicle, which means Eric had to call Enterprise and he spoke to Troy because there were no vehicles available at Sterling Car Care for use. Eric promised that once he arrived to work Monday 01/26/2015 that he would take care of this for me and he indicated American Imports down the street showed that in their stock that had several Window Regulators for my 2004 Alero and they possibly also had the window. I waited this morning on 01/26/2015 on Monday until 10:23 AM and I called to speak to Eric and he had not arrived to work. I requested to speak to Ernie and he was available. My thoughts of sadness went to joy when I heard Ernie voice. This representative I knew would help me with my matter. I explain to Ernie my circumstance, with tears in my eyes, from beginning to ended and he stated, "Demetrius" listen to me I'm on this and I'm going to get down to the bottom of this and I will call you shortly. Ernie then called me and stated the condition of my Window Regulator and the needed of a window since the window tabs were fused in. Ernie stated let me look around and I will call you just give me a few minutes. Ernie did call me with good news that he found the parts for my vehicle and he estimated that by 5:00 PM it would be done. Ernie and I did speak again at 3:55 PM and Ernie stated that the vehicle was ready.....a silence went over the phone and I was in awe joy...lol especially when he stated the total was $302.00...WOW. I told Ernie I just want to have a honest service not just for myself but for the generation of my family members when it comes to repairs and Ernie agreed and stated, "okay" your vehicle is ready so I will see you soon. Let me say this for rep Eric who was dishonest, disloyalty, corrupt, crooked, deceptive, deceiving, misleading, underhanded, sneaky, unfair, unethical, lack of integrity and untrustworthy. It's not right that Eric would be making up anything, padding charges, needless repairs with nobody knowing is not cool and this is how companies in-up in court or out of business because of employees like Eric. Eric caused stress on my family and kids and nothing is more frustrating than getting repairs repaired at an extreme cost and the headaches and wasted time could have been definitely avoided by being truthful. A trustworthy auto repair shop is vital to the safety of every motorist. Having an employee like Ernie that was honest, professional, ethical, a man of quality standard, uprightness, fairness, truthfulness, and sincerity. When I first started taking my vehicles there for work everything was fine. The last three times I took vehicles in I had to bring them back because the work was not performed properly. The last time I took my van back they supposedly corrected the problem but it came back within two weeks. With their nonchalant attitude I will never take another vehicle for maintenance too them and would highly recommend nobody take their vehicles there. read more

took a used van we recently purchased in for an inspection and service as needed. they fixed a few things and and gave it a clean bill of health. the costly bill was not as important as the van being ready to be used to service our customers. over the next few days we found that they had missed something very simple but takes the service van out of service. when asked about the incompetence and how they were going to make it right the service manager avoided the question and spouted quotes and telling us that we may not know what we were talking about.we actually do and took it somewhere else to have it fixed. my family swears by these folks. i will never go there again. in my opinion, if you make a mistake own it. dont try to cover by trying to take advantage of a young woman and her family. its a shame that a company i wanted to trust so much turned out to be one of the same old clip joints that this industry is full of. i think a refund or partial refund would be in order of free towing and a discount for the missed rear wheel bearing problem that was completely obvious at the time they had it. very dissapointed in sterling car care and will have my cars and trucks serviced from a more trustworthy company from now on. epic fail sterling car care read more

A rip-off! I told them that I was hearing a whistling sound and then my battery light came on. They said that they needed to replace the battery to see what was the problem. 2 hours later (at closing time) they say it was just the battery. They charged me $385. I pull off still hearing the whistling, took it to another shop and found out that it was the alternator! I called them and told them and he had nothing to say! Not even an apology. I should also mention that another customer was in there while I was waiting and told me that they look for things to charge you for and that he was only there because they charged him for a tire rotation that they didn't even do!!! Absolute crooks. I took my car in to have a new battery installed... While driving home after the work was done, I noticed that the front A/C vents were not blowing air at all. A quick internet search revealed that if the fuses were not reset properly after the battery install, it can lead to problems. I brought the vehicle back the next morning, and explained the issue... After about 45 minutes I was told that the fuse in question failed "by coincidence" at the same time the battery replaced, and that they would happily charge me $637 to fix the problem that THEY CAUSED. They also told me that the replacement part was "only about $100", so they were admittedly charging me labor fees that were more than 5X the cost of the equipment (which, given the situation, was laughable). I was also told that we "probably had problems with the vents in past"... which we never had, prior to bringing the vehicle into their shop. Needless to say, we will NEVER be using them again for repairs. If you are reading this, and have not taken your vehicle to these guys yet, I strongly caution against it. read more

I was in an area that I was not familiar with when my car needed to be towed. I am a member of AAA and Sterling Car Care is AAA approved. My car was looked at immediately and the problem was taken care of within a 2 hour window. I had to have a new water pump and belt installed. I was very pleased with the service and the cleanliness of the waiting area. the overall experience was a 5!!
