They worked on my RV tow behind, a 2011 Mini Cooper S, to fix an oil leak. Doing that required removing the bumper and the towing base-plate which is secured to the frame of the car. They fixed the oil leak and put the bumper back on without securing the base-plate. The 8 bolts were stuck into the appropriate holes but no nuts were used. They were lying in the frame cavity loose. i towed the Mini back to NC and literally could have lost the car on the Interstate. When confronted, Mr Signn claimed it was not his fault. I discovered his error as we prepared for a motorhome trip. By then only 3 of the 8 bolts remained. Ended up taking everything off and fixing it myself. read more

Can't believe how genuinely honest these guys are! My wife's 2011 325i was experiencing adjustments to her seat for no apparent reason. The worst part was that it inevitably happened when we were driving and it could easily have caused an accident. Clearly there was a short in the control panel. After Scott (a wizard for sure) looked at the car, he explained in (almost) agonizing detail that there were 2 components that might be the culprit: the controller OR the motor under the seat that actually moved the seat forward & back, up & down, etc. His suggestion was to set the seat where it was comfortable for my wife to drive, disconnect the control panel, and let her drive it for a few days. If there was no further movement in the seat, it was the controller, if there was, the motor was where the problem. Here's the rub, by using this process of elimination, we only had to buy 1 of the components, instead of what the dealership would have done; shotgun the whole seat assembly costing almost 3x as much. It took a little longer, and we had to make several trips to the shop, but it sure was less expensive. No matter what car problem we ever have in the future, Sterling Star Automotive is our first choice. read more

I initially came to Sterling Star 10 years ago because my warranty expired on my 2000 C Class and there was NO WAY I was going to pay dealership rates! All I wanted was a repair that was honest, thorough, and reasonably priced (I wasn't sure such a thing was possible for MB). Finding Sterling Star was a breath of fresh air. They really understand Mercedes-Benz and were able to make repairs that stymied the dealer (really). For example, the transmission on my 2005 CLK was acting up, and two dealers said to replace it. Mr. Singh knows his MB transmissions and was able to fix it, so I'm keeping the car. No joke, these guys are magicians. I've read some of the more negative reviews and I have some comments. For one, if you're looking for a "dealer experience", you won't find it here. No "technician" in a lab coat greets you with a beverage, etc. If you want to pay for that fluff, go to HBL. If you want your car repaired by an honest garage that is super clean, there is no comparison. Loaner cars are old, but run properly. Check me out; I've written a number of reviews, but this is first time I've given 5 stars to anyone. Very helpful and honest automotive repair place. My wife and I were traveling home to Newport News and our belt started squeaking. We pulled over and smelled burnt rubber. When we shut off the car, the belt started smoking. We didn't know what to do so we called Sterling. When I got there GP acknowledged I called and walked out to my car. Within minutes he diagnosed our problem. Bad AC compressor. Then he suggested we cut the belt since it only powers the compressor. That way we could make it home and get the compressor fixed at a later time. GP was very helpful and didn't take advantage of us in our "out of town" situation. I've been bringing our cars to Sterling Star Automotive for so many years that I've lost count. It seems to be at least 10. We will continue to bring them here because the owner treats customers like he would treat himself - honestly, openly, and trusting that you won't burn him. I've brought cars in for assessments both before and after buying cars. GP gave me insight on what needed repair, what repairs could wait, and what didn't need repairing or what I could easily do myself. To give you an example, I had transmission problems that every other expert said required a new transmission for at least $5000. GP inspected the transmission and said ideally, a new transmission would be best, but he'd repair the gears having problems for $1200. It took him a few days, but the repairs he made lasted until the car was hit by another driver . . . over 90,000 miles later. Time after time, nearly every customer I recommended to him has loved the results. No one is perfect, but if you're looking for service on your current car(s) or an assessment on one you're looking to buy, you should work with Sterling Star & GP, the owner, at least once. When it comes to auto repair, you have to find a shop you can trust because most of us don't know much about cars. My last experience with this shop proves I can't trust this shop at all. My car had gas smell whenever tank is full, and Mr. Singh took a look at it and told me the two sending units of gas tank need to be replaced and quoted me $1270. He also quoted me $800 to fix steering wheel pump, and another $1500 for other fixes. I wanted to get a second opinion so took my car to another shop. It turns out that the two sending units of gas tank are fine, and only the tank seal needs to be replaced. In the end, I paid $550 to fix the gas tank seal, steering wheel pump and replace front brake pads. Afterwards there is no more smell when gas tank is full. I know the price I paid is on the low end for whatever reason, but I think Mr. Singh is either too lazy or too greedy to correctly diagnose the problem. I'm glad I took the car somewhere else for a second opinion which saved me $3000. I definitely won't trust his shop again. read more

I don't know how much money they have saved me over the years but I am sure that it is a sizeable amount. They are very friendly and I never feel like I am being gouged for my money like at the dealership (they actually tried to charge me $100 to replace a bulb in my car one time - G.P. did it for free). They are the definition of just good, honest people. True story - I took my car there one time and it needed a part that had to be ordered and wouldn't be done until the next day - G.P. actually gave me HIS car as a loaner to take home. This is my first time with Sterling Star Automotive. For what I had experienced, I will be a repeat customer. I have a 2004 MB E500. Brought my car in for transmission problem and F service due. Mr G.P. Singh diagnosed the problem and gave me copy of diagnostic printout of what caused my transmission problem. He is honest, informative, and knowledgeable. He told me to bring the car to one of the MB dealer that he knew dependable enough because the parts my car needs is not sold by the dealer to any local shop. For the F service, he ask me to bring my car back once the transmission is fixed. And if the dealer tells me the causes of my transmission problem and parts needed are different than his systematic diagnosis, he ask me to call him. Amazingly I found this place because I was in Sterling for a softball tournament and someone stuck a flyer under my Merecedes wiper. Usually this just pisses me off but I took this as a sign as I had been needing some work done on my CLS 500. I spoke with the owner on the phone and dropped my car off late in the day. All of the repairs were explained and completed to my satisfaction including updating my safety inspection. They also changed out all 16 of my spark plugs (2 per cylinder) with Bosch Platinum plugs I provided. When I returned to pick up my car the shop power was out due to a nearby car accident that took down some lines. They let me take my Mercedes and leave my old Jeep there as collateral and we settled up after the weekend. My flyer entitled me to a nice discount which made me even more satisfied. This is definitely a 5 Star establishment and I will not be taking my baby anywhere else. Honest, reliable, knowledgable, and priced right (for Mercedes anyway). read more

These guys are thugs. If there is nothing wrong with your car, they will say it is about to break down, this part is bad that part is bad. My car had starting trouble and also was showing battery sign, obviously battery needed changing so I took it to them. They tried to tell me that the crank shaft on my under warranty Mercedes was bad and needed replacement and they were ready to change it even without asking my permission. I asked them not to and took the car to the dealership and they changed the battery, the crankshaft had no problem what so ever. This place is a complete fraud operation run by a bunch of thugs.
