The service was pretty good and quick. The food was really tasty. But the place itself was not in the best conditions. The floor was dirty and had wrappers of toothpicks and sugar. The silverware didn't seem well washed, they just didn't look very clean. And I found four very small insects. In my napkin with the silverware, which I had to kill and ask them to replace my silverware. First sit-in experience since moving from CA. My partner and I received warm welcomes and excellent service. We ordered coffee, a mimosa (came with fresh squeezed juice and a lovely personal bottle of champagne) a burger, and a crab melt. My partner said it was the best burger they've ever had, and we both agreed the crab was fresh, light, and delicious. The food was so good we didn't even take pictures! Both entrées came with a side salad with extremely fresh vegetables. (We get ranch and Italian on the norm, each were exceptional) I've worked with food for years and I am EXTREMELY picky with my produce. A++++ job worth every penny and a $30 tip. I've dined at the Sterlings in Richland a couple years back for dinner and haven't returned after getting their surf and turf combo. I just can't explain what it is about restaurants that tend to turn my belly off cause anyone that knows me personally, knows that the key to my heart is thru my belly. That being said my mother in law invited my family out for brunch on a Sunday a few weeks back. I was really impressed with their breakfast offerings they had on their menu. As a frequent guest to McGills for breakfast it was a very nice change up. The decor is much more pleasant to the eyes compared to Mcgills. Restaurant noise was average factoring that NFL football has just started a few weeks prior. I ordered the Gondola which is a biscuit and gravy topped with 2 scrambled eggs topped with real bacon, not that fake bacon (bacos bottle) with a side of hash browns. i can't picture myself getting fruit cup since the sweet and tart flavor will counter the savory gravy and lightly salty bacon on top. Dish was bomb. Also their brewed coffee was the best ever coffee i had at any surrounding area restaurants, i put two sweet n lows and a hazelnut creamer, thank me later by sending me a compliment. Pulled in to town at 1820 and DoorDashed Sterling for a heavy late lunch of steak, potato & salad at 1920. I called the restaurant to warn "Mario" that the DoorDash menu didnt allow butter & sour cream for the potato.. could i please add it to the address or name for the order. Mario says, "We dont have that info. Doordash brings us the order once they arrive". AND.."We dont use DoorDash. They dont bring correct food to the customer". Then contradicts saying, "ya, we cook it and then they arrive. But they dont know if we cook the same as whats on their menu"!. THANKS MARIO. IM SURE I'D DO BETTER WITH THE RESULTS TALKING TO THE EVENING MANAGER.!!! Wow!!! Loved it!!! This place is family owned and operated, and the staff has always been very attentive, and always happy to see you. We were very disappointed with our dining experience. Our waitress was totally disinterested in giving us good service. The kitchen was slow and it took forever to receive our meal. We were never approached to let us know that there was a problem with kitchen service. Really, an hour to deliver two hamburgers. When she finally brought our food I told her I was about ready to go looking for her, only then did she tell me that they had to call in another cook. After delivering our food not once did she check with us to see if we had all we needed and no refill of our water glasses. I took 5% off her tip. Not only was the service poor the food was not good. Finally after 50 minutes we hear a server say, why didn't they get seated, we close in 30 minutes! We then sat down right next to another table with a guy consistently coughing. Went here the other night with my wife and was looking forward to a nice meal. We've eaten here before and generally have had good food and service. The atmosphere is also nice. Unfortunately this evening was NOT a good experience. It started out ok. Our server was pleasant enough and took our order and brought our food. The first problem was the fish I ordered (fish & chips)... one piece was not fully cooked inside and there was a hard chunk in the middle. I told our server and (this is where I got a little annoyed to start with), she asked me to break open every piece of fish on my plate before getting me a new piece of fish. I don't know about you, but I like fish & chips to not be broken up because they're easier to hold and dip in tarter sauce. Now, my plate was full of crumpled up fish shreds. :( Not happy, but at least she replaced my fish. After that, our sever never came back to the table! Our drinks were never filled and no one checked on us at all to see if we needed anything. Meanwhile, my wife was not happy with her steak. She asked for medium-well and got a way to salty, over-done thin slab of beef. We tried to ignore the problems and enjoy our evening. My wife decided she wanted to order some desert... Problem was, NO SERVER still!!!! We waited and I waved my hands and even whistled.... NOTHING! It was like we were being ignored. So I got up and walked up to see our server sitting there in front of the computer monitor at the cash machine smiling. She looked at me and I said, "What happened? You left us." She giggled and said nothing. Then I spoke with the manager, who asks, "What's up man?" Not sir, not "how can I help you?" I said, well, our sever has not visited our table in some time, we have no water and... he interrupted, "What can I get ya?" I told him my wife wanted a creme brule and he said, "Comin' up." By this time, my wife was upset and didn't want to be there anymore so we got up to leave. As we were walking to pay, our server comes with the dessert. I said, "We changed our mind." She rolled her eyes and said, "ok." I paid, but no tip... The girl at the register (a different girl) asked, "how was everything?" I said, "Not good. The fish was raw and hard. The steak over cooked. The service bad. We did not have a good meal." She said, "Aw, I'm sorry." Well... us too... We left and won't be back at this place anytime soon. I don't know what happened or why? The evening started off good, but then our server just ignored us and the manager was rude. There is no excuse for that kind of service. Our meal should have been free or at least some kind of credit applied. There should have been a sincere apology, not eye-rolling and bad service. Sterling gets off with 2 stars ONLY because it has been good before and we normally like the place, but Friday night's meal deserved NO STARS! It was a poor experience. I am going to contact the management or ownership to tell them of our experience. The staff needs a lesson in how to serve customers! Everyone looked busy, but no attention was being paid to the most important component of the restaurant - THE CUSTOMERS!!! On a happy note... Was a great place to eat. I made a complaint about their portions. This is there response. Not blaming you at all, however the menu says "two small pancakes." Im not sure why you would expect anything other than two small pancakes. We create custom orders every day and would be happy to customize something to your liking if the menu description doesnt fit what you are looking for. However, if you order something that says "small" in the description there is little your server can do to offer you other options. They are there to serve you and take the best care of you possible. They arent going to suggest customized meals to you unless you let them know what you are looking for is not on the menu. We write menu descriptions to ensure no confususion, i appologize if you feel you didnt recieve what you wanted, but i suggest you read the description of what you are ordering next time, reguardless of where you dine. After dining, don't you hate when the cashier asks how everything was, and you answer "fine" because it is after the fact and honestly everything wasn't that great? Maybe it's just me. My dining partner ordered a hot beef sandwich and I had a small bay shrimp salad-- one hot, one cold. Supposedly, right? My salad- bowl, greens and shrimp were warmer than room temp. Maybe it sat under a heat lamp. The beef sandwich was less than hot. I wasn't in the complaint mode, I just wanted something simple and don't understand how one can screw that up. The staff was friendly and the waitperson offered to take both back, but that is NOT something I'm keen on.
