Stopped in for lunch on a Saturday. Restaurant was not busy at all, got our food quickly. My husband an I split a large beef sandwich, regular pork sandwich, poutine and fries. We had a ton of food to bring home! Beef was way overcooked to our liking. Very hard to chew/get down. I did not care for the pork sandwich either. Fries were excellent. The cheese on the poutine wasn't melted, just blobs of cheese curds. It's been several years since we've been here and unfortunately it will be several more years until we return. read more

For years we had heard about how wonderful this place was so we were really looking forward to trying them. It was a huge disappointment. For what you got it was really expensive ($45). We got 2 skimpy sandwiches, coleslaw, onion rings, 2 medium drinks and a side of banana pepper mustard. We were under the impression that everything was roasted there, but if it was I find it hard to believe. My husband got the pulled pork and said it had a funky taste to it. Maybe old? My turkey sandwich was "meh". The onion rings were good, but they were frozen so you really can't really mess them up. I got a side of coleslaw that was tasteless. It was $4.50 and barely half a cup. Stopped for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. It wasn't too busy. There was a steady flow of customers in and out. Order at the counter, they tell you a number, then yell your number when your order is up. We sat down with a pitcher of Birch beer, and our food was ready within 10 minutes. Everything was hot and delicious. The portions are more than generous. They sell a few beers and seltzers. The menu has so many choices, I think that it's a good idea to take a look before you get there. Next time we go, I will be getting a meat pup cup for our dog- he can't eat ice cream due to allergies, so a Beef, Turkey, or Lamb puppy treat would be a fantastic option for him. I was thrown out by the owners daughter because of my service dog Apollo (who was acting and behaving perfectly) when we first got there an employee asked us to show Apollos certification and I told her that the ADA has no certifications for service dogs then after she took my order the owner's daughter came out and asked to show Apollos certification and I told her there is none. She then proceeded to ask me to put him in the car and I explained to her that Apollo is my alert dog and that he can alert me to a heart issue, along with another type of issue and she told me that my dirty filthy dog can't be in their restaurant. They are also non handicap accessible because their wheelchair ramp is broken up with a chunk missing, there handicap parking space needs to be repaved and is on a slant and I'm in a wheelchair and I have a rear entry van and backing out I had to have a friend get behind me so I wouldn't flip over. Disappointing - we really wanted our meal to be good. We'd heard this was a quaint local place to get a good meal. Unfortunately, not so much. The initial presentation was nice (see pics) and we couldn't wait to dig in. I got the half roast beef, half pork sandwich and when I took my first bite, wait, what nothing but meh! The meat was tough, not chewy but tough to chew. And it was drrrry, I mean parched. There was barely a hint of moisture. There was no flavor to tell the difference between the pork and beef. And that beautiful bun was not even warm and was also firm, kinda like day old bread gets. Darn, so I tried to fix it by adding horseradish. This made it better but still hard to get through. Next I went and got some mayonnaise, that should do it. But nope. Lastly I decided to try and top it with some of the recommended side of coleslaw, yikes that was worse. I realize everyone's got their own take on coleslaw but even the slaw was dry and covered in a bunch of finely ground herbs that just made it taste almost chalky. In the end I just couldn't finish it and I was in the military and got thru some pretty tough food. How was my wife's turkey sandwich? She said it was "fine". In my wife's vernacular that doesn't mean very good. However to be fair the 3 stars are for the young lady who took the order. She was very welcoming and informative. And the place was clean. Wanted to try a new beef on weck and happened to be in the area. The ratings and reviews for this spot were good, since I dropped in for a quick bite. We went inside to order takeout. It looks like a BBQ joint on the outside, but it's a small diner style restaurant in the inside. It's small and a bit dated, but I imagine it's cozy enough. The menu is posted right above the counter, so you can figure out what you want from there. They have lamb on weck, beef on weck, pulled pork sandwiches and more. I opted for a pulled pork sandwich on weck. My mom got the roast beef. We didn't have to wait long. Their sandwiches are large and their portions healthy. The pulled pork had a nice sweet, tangy bbq sauce, and it was pretty good. It's a bit messy to eat. Their roast beef is well cooked. Virtually no pink anywhere. It's very tender though, and it didn't have any of the string meat or grisly bits. One of the only down sides is I would've preferred if the food was hotter. It was warm, but it was quickly cooling, and a cold pulled pork sandwich doesn't taste as good. read more

Stopped there with my friend yesterday and the lady at the counter was pleasant & helpful. The place is very clean and you can eat in or takeout. We decided to eat in. They have a good selection of sandwiches and sides. We both ordered the roast beef which was moist & tender. They dip in au ju & there's horseradish, if you like. I also ordered the hand-cut curly fries which were delicious. My friend ordered the potato salad, which he said tasted homemade & very good. They had a good selection of soft drinks and some beers to choose from. If you're still hungry, there are homemade pies. Unfortunately, we were full. Next time. Finally tried this little spot near my house - cant believe it took me over 2 years to finally try! Great place for a simple meat sandwich with some sides. Menu is very small - so if you're vegetarian/vegan this is not a place you'll want to stop. Great little joint though for meat eaters. The person taking our order wasn't very friendly and was not patient with a group of 4 first timers to Steve's but took care of us as quickly as we were able to make up our minds. 2 of us tried the 1lb beef sandwich, while the others tried the regular beef on weck and a pulled pork sandwich. Everyone enjoyed their food. Sides are small but the sandwiches are great sizes. The sweet potato fries were yummy as well. Was at the Botanical gardens for an Easter Egg Hunt and wanted to get something to eat after. Not really sure where to go, but then I remembered my brother and I talking about Steve's Pig and Ox Roast the other day. My wife was reluctant at first, but I convinced her we should check it out. Now I've eaten food from here before as some take-out when I worked at my family's shop. This is the first time I tried it in probably 10 years and it was just as good as I remembered. Now I planned on getting their Beef on Weck as I knew it was delicious, but when I saw they had carved lamb I could not resist trying a Lamb on Weck. My wife got the Pork and we got a regular order of chicken fingers for the kids. Kids fingers came with a small fry so I got a large fry to split with the wife. Some Loganberry and a beer for drinks and I was good to go. The lamb was delicious, I normally cover my Beef on Weck in Horseradish (if you're not crying while you eat it, you're not doing it right is my feeling) The lamb was so tasty though I didn't want to hide any taste of it, so I went sans horseradish except for the last two bites. My wife enjoyed the pork, and the kids fingers were good as well. Nice size, crisp outside, juicy inside. And the curly fries are amazing and a HUGE amount (see my photo). Definitely no reason not to split a large fry between two people. It's more than enough. Talking to the worker (owner?) on how good it was after he had seen we devoured it all, he mentioned that they have been in business over 35 years. With food as tasty as this, I can see why. I drove all the way out here to give this a try and then realized I'd tried it twice before. Once I had the beef on weck which I found overdone and dry. The other time I had the BBQ which I found awful. I have since heard from a trusted friend that I should try the lamb on weck, so one of these days I will come back here and try that, and then re-review if necessary. But until then... nahhhhh. This place is fantastic and a great stop if you are visiting the Basilica (but is even worth the drive if you aren't in the neighborhood). Simple decor matches a simple menu but is cleverly done with classic Buffalo scenes to take in while enjoying a classic Buffalo meal. There are not a lot of menu options but you don't need them. Get the beef on weck! The pulled pork was also fantastic and flavorful. The beef was juicy and tender and the wect rolls had just the right amount of salt to add flavor but not be overbearing. Watch the horeradish. It is strong stuff so use it sparingly unless you really want your sandwich to pack a punch. The fries come in small and large and the portions are huge. Two people can easily share an order that features fresh cut fried with a perfect combination of being both crispy and flavorful. They do not accept credit cards so make sure you bring cash (or use the ATM that they have in the restaurant). read more

I've gotten a roast beef sandwich and now a lamb sandwich and both are AMAZING... the lamb sandwich is absolutely the best sandwich I've ever had. Ever. Of all sandwiches. Outstanding would easily be 5 stars if the weck roll was better quality...otherwise , we had , 1# pork sandwich , 1# beef on weck , regular lamb sandwich , chicken sandwich , fresh cut curly fries , amazing onion rings ...sandwiches came with au jus ...the beef au jus was so freaking goid it was drinkable like a soup. Beef gravy was crazy good . The meal came with a bunch of dill pickle slices too. All the meat was very high quality ...We did drive up service , the young lady who brought the food was very pleasant and friendly which is always appreciated. It's a small, counter-order place with simple tables, but it's always busy, as the locals know that the food is good. Their curly fries are the best that we've ever had...large orders for the price.
