Great little country store to stop by on your way to Mendocino from SF. Right on the One in the tiny town center of Stewart's Point. Good selection of snacks and had a brisket sandwich they had on special. Delicious! Ice cream and bathroom break then off again on the scenic drive. They have gas pumps but were out so needed to drive 10 miles more north to Gualala. There is a 76 and another gas station there. read more

Lovely scenic stop with loads of historical charm and regional goodies. Lovely staff and service. They must be having a little seasonal traffic flow decrease because I was stunned at the paltry light serving of ingredients or the lack thereof on a sandwich called the Italian which for a price over $10 was so light of deli meat and cheese I was very tempted to refuse and return it. This must be the case because other reviews here compliment the serving sizes. Mine was the exception. I would return there again but for other reason besides the present deli servings. Pretty great sandwiches at city-sandwich prices... Nice looking inside, but not that great of a selection. definitely a plus one for the cute girl with clean hands making said sandwiches. I was looking for ice cream, food and an extra blanket, and they had food for sure, but only a couple, tiny, thin, low-quality blankets and only 7 variations of only chocolate ice cream.. I might have been really into this place if they weren't selling these sequin-laden crib-sized blankets for 60 dollars each. It wasn't their selling point, tho--I would definitely come back to Stewart's Point Store for the peppered turkey avacado sandwiches. I might head south 10 miles exactly to get to the Ocean Cove general store just past Salt Point State Park to get better deals/selections on convenience-store/camping goods/single-serving items. This is a hidden gem on the beautiful Pacific Coast highway! If you're in the mood for an outstanding gourmet sandwich or a cold one while listening to fantastic local musicians, this is the place for you. We've passed the Stewart Point Store dozens of times and have stopped in for coffee, but we never knew about the magic that was happening upstairs on Friday and Saturday nights! One of our friends, Rick White, was playing there and he told us we needed to check it out. I asked if there was food, as I'd be leaving right after work and Rick said they served sandwiches. What an understatement! We walked up the stairs behind the store and were greeted by the friendly owners and wait staff. "Sit anywhere", so we perched at a table near the small stage to listen to the fine music being played. My wife had a root beer and I asked what was on tap and was presented with three choices - Scrimshaw was the winner as its my favorite. As for "sandwiches" - what an understatement... these are not your average meat and bread sandwiches, but a selection of about a dozen specialties.... it was a tough call as each made our mouths water. My wife had the Stewart's Point, which was tri-tip with an amazing sauce on a large fresh roll. I had The Guerneville, a take on a traditional Cuban ham, cheese, pickle and Dijon mustard, also on a roll that was soft and fresh. The sandwiches were huge, tasty and filling - perfect with the cold beer. We ordered the potato salad as a side and were glad we did as it was out of this world freshly made and with the perfect crunch to accompany these excellent sandwiches. I scored half of my wife's sandwich for the next day as her half satisfied her hunger even after a full day gardening. If you're ever in the area and this place is open and has some live music, do yourself a favor and walk up those stairs and enter a world that is both a culinary and a musical delight. Its hard to categorize this wonderful little bar, but it reminds me of a rustic place with music and food right out of Greenwich Village from a time when real artists like Van Ronk, Dylan, Kristofferson were entertaining in small venues. Seriously the BEST Italian sandwich I have ever had. We got there to late one afternoon and the deli closes at 4:30. The owner told us to try the Gualala Hotel which he recently purchased and renovated which we did. That was also fantastic. We ate there twice. Once for dinner then came back in the morning for breakfast. Both meals great but dinner was the best. On our way back to Napa we decided to try one more stop at Stewart's Point. Even though it was in the middle of nowhere it was packed with motorcycles, bikers, etc. I waited about 40 minutes for these infamous sandwiches. I can personally say it was worth the wait. Their pizza Fridays held upstairs inside the large scale, lofty, exposed vaulted ceiling is a great space where locals and travelers congregate for pizza. You can bring your own bottle of wine and sit next to others at community tables with great conversation. The owners produce wonderful delights from their kitchen. Their baked goods are yummy. I live about one and a quarter hour away north of this gem, and YEP, already planning on an excuse to drive south soon. THE BEST! Not a single place in Fort Bragg or Mendocino can even come remotely close to making a sandwich like this place. Most amazing sandwich I've ever had. The house baked bread was perfect- a soft crusty roll for the Italian and toasted house made challah bread for the BLT. Super fresh and abundant amount of meat. The dressing on the Italian was delicious and was a good compliment to the bread and meat. And not too bready- you actually could taste everything else. While camping nearby at salt point state park I had to go on a morning hunt for lantern mantles as the spare I had turned out to not fit my lantern. after driving around to 2 towns for their small stores and finding not the right mantel, i decided i had time and.... (wanted some space from the kids) and drove up to Stewarts Point and found this really cool general store. Totally done in an old style setup with customized refrigerators, etc. the owners were nice and while they still didn't have the lantern mantel exactly I needed, I did get some I "retrofitted" and it worked fine. But the real gem was finding great foodie selections, fresh local produce, good wine, kind of a deli, etc. All with friendly service etc. Hope you guys make it way up there an get ALL the tourism biz. Went to Stewart's Point Store twice today ! Ate lunch on the way to Sea Ranch - the Pilgrim sandwich is superb!! Picked up 2 calzones for dinner on the way back. Hillas and the Roni. OMG - we may go back tomorrow. The drive on CA 1 is not terrible to the north of Timber Cove. It's pretty curvy on the way back. Incredible food - nice people - great selection of root beer. Get a root beer float ! The ice cream is made on site. read more

A perfect stopping point if you are road tripping along Highway 1. I live near here, so I stop by once a month or so to get a delicious deli sandwich (go for the Dutch Crunch!). Friendly folks who run the place and they have a little bit of everything in this old time store, including dairy, some fresh veggies/fruit and lots of snacks. It's one of the few local places I can pick up a can of fresh and tasty Taylor Maid Coffee beans (love that stuff!) There is bench seating on the front of the store where you can catch some sun, or have a picnic at their giant picnic table. Please support this great little store. This was the BEST BLT I have ever had. I consider myself an expert because I order them everywhere. This sandwich was made wi fresh baked bread...and LOADED with really really good bacon, just as a "bacon" sandwich should be! Lol. Arrived by bicycle mid-afternoon on Sunday. It was chilly, so I asked about soup. "Not today, but we have Sloppy Joes." Sloppy Joes! Who makes Sloppy Joes anymore! This was a generously sloppy serving on a tasty bun with the perfect balance of sweet and savory. I split the sandwich with a friend and it was still plenty of food for a hungry cyclist. I ordered the appropriately named Hog sandwich, and my traveling partner ordered the the veggie sandwich. Both were very good. The Hog is stacked with pork; bring an appetite. I ate half and packaged the rest for the road. The veggie also was excellent. The restaurant is inside a small town market on Highway 1 that, among other things, sells beer and wine and lots of popular branded candies like Reed's from your nostalgiac youth. Old store that moved to this location a year ago. There's probably a lot more they can do with the big space, and I'm looking forward to visiting again. read more

Not is our last name Stewart, but this place is a must stop every time we enter and leave The Sea Ranch. As we enter the kids get a special bottled soda (Stewart Brand :) to collect abalone, glass, rocks and shells while we are at The Sea Ranch. When we leave TSR we always stop for the best made (takes a good 10-15 mins/per sandwich) sandwich and bottled soda. The roast beef is always as tender as could be and the sandwich are the my fav. in CA. They have Wifi and a fantastic view. Enjoy! read more

This place was recommended at campground by the ranger. We were not impressed. Walked in, intending to see a nice bakery but it didn't meet our expectation. Very touristy, baked goods were not labeled and service person was not enthusiastic. We bought 2 scones and one sesame breadstick. Good but nothing special. Would not stop again. read more

Stopped here today on a whim. We decided to have an early lunch. So glad we stopped! My calzone(forgot the name) was delicious! It came with honey, infused with hot chili oil, and a small cup of marinara sauce. The various ingredients were quality meats and cheese which worked so well together, so yummy! My husband had the "Italian" sandwich, which I ordered for him upon request, "surprise me". I know what he likes. He was not disappointed, "mmmm this is so good." They use quality ingredients, and do not skimp on the ingredients. They also bake their own bread onsite. I would definitely stop again, next time we are going to Gualala or headed home, south. I'm guessing they have new ownership since I was last there. The menu has been greatly reduced as has the beer selection. Also of note they no longer sell gas here. We had plenty to make it to Jenner but it was always nice to get lunch and gas at one place. It's still a nice stop off point with decent food. I personally hope they do great so they can expand things a little menu wise. I have been stopping in here for more years than I care to admit when riding along the coast. Got an excellent picnic lunch here and the couple running it were super nice. It was like having your mom make you lunch. WAY higher quality than I was expecting for a tiny store. Unique and useful novelties: 5 stars. Hand-knit beanies, artisan sausage and cheese, fresh quality fruit, organic drinks, fresh baked, DELICIOUS pastries and cookies, bar AND coffee bar, etc. Coffee & Lattes: 3 stars. They did the job, but they were a bit rough on the tastebuds. I got the sense that the ratio of beans to water/milk could have been adjusted to create more balanced beverages. I didn't think this was problematic enough to bring the rating down - just more of a suggestion for an area of improvement. Ambiance & Service: 5 stars. The staff was very friendly and helpful, and the ambiance was rustic. It was fun simply walking around the store and seeing the antique furnishings and decorations. Loved it! While I'll probably skip the coffee, I'll make a point of stopping here anytime I come through :) . read more
